must read for teaching writing!
I had the pleasure of working with this teacher and let me tell you - she is amazing! Every day that I was there I learned so much about the art of teaching. As soon as I heard about her new book I grabbed it from the book store and have been recommending it to my colleagues. You will not be disappointed!

Excellent Bible survey volume for young people
I have been teaching through this book with my Sunday School class (students of grades 6-8). Even though these students have mostly been in Sunday School and exposed to Bible study all their lives, they did not really have a clear sense of the various divisions of the Bible, the timeline, the geography, etc. They knew the main stories and the main characters, but they were quite unclear about how everything fits together.
So I decided to spend a few quarters (of time, not of money) in a systematic overview of the whole Bible. I already had a copy of this book, or rather my daughter did, and it looked like it might work out for this, so I tried it.
We have just completed our study of the Old Testament and are about to begin on the New. The book is great. There is a chapter corresponding to each book of the Bible plus a couple of additional chapters, such as one which discusses the history of Bible lands during the time between the Testaments. Each chapter contains material describing what is known about the time, authorship, and purpose of the book. An overview is followed by more detailed material. There are lots of graphics: timelines, maps, illustrations, color photos. The material is accessible to students of this age without being condescending. It has kept the interest of my students (and of me.) And it has fulfilled my purpose of giving them a good overview of the big picture.
The theological stance of the book is moderately conservative Protestant. It takes conservative positions on issues such as authorship and dates. It does not, however, delve into theological distinctives but concentrates on introducing the students to the Bible to facilitate their reading it for themselves. So parents and church workers of many denominations should feel comfortable in using it with their children.
Recommended.

A Thriller
Imagine you are a boy named Sam, and you have the ability to tell if people are lying. Do you tell everybody or keep it a secret?
When I read this book I was amazed, because it was so extraordinary, and I don't like reading a whole lot, but Liars is about a boy named Sam and the little town he lives in.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes twists in thier stories, because this story has a lot of twists and turns, so you never know what will happen next. This is a great book and I think that everyone should read it.

Highlight the memories and images of American childhood
Compiled by child psychiatrist Robert Coles, When They Were Young is a wonderfully presented showcase of retrospective black-and-white photographs drawn from the Library of Congress, and which highlight the memories and images of American childhood and what it was like to grow up in a yesteryear American culture. Many of the images hail from the late 19th century or the first half of the 20th century, and are accompanied by a thoughtful commentary adding background and depth to this memorable and visual treasure trove showcasing an impressive and memorable retrospective of American childhood.

Robert F. Young writes incredibly moving sci-fi and fantasy
I originally came across this book of short stories in my grandfathers bookcase and read the first few pages through sheer curiosity. 5 hours and 7 stories later I was completely hooked. Utterly absorbing, these stories combine the best of scifi/fantasy and merges it seamlessly with moving love stories that will keep you guessing until the end. I've re-read this book several times from cover to cover, and although certain stories obviously stand out (most notably 'The Dandilion girl', a story of love with a twist involving time travel - yes thats what I said) all of them will remain with you for some time. All in all, the sort of book you wish everyone would read and the world might be a better place. Its that good.

an excellent resource for high school drama classes
I recently took on a class in a drama workshop for high school students and searched hard for an anthology which could stimulate the kids and serve as a basis for their dramatic readings as well. This book has the unique qualities of providing a stimulating package of age appropriate readings and useful resource material for both students and teachers. I particularly liked selections for kids from different gender and ethnic backgrounds.

This is such a great book, I think other kids should read it
I waited for a long time for this book to finally come out. I am so excited that I finally have it.I liked when Arthur pulled the sword out of the stone the best. I liked very much how he illustrated it. This book inspired me to draw pictures about the middle ages. I think other kids that like king arthur stories should read this exciting book. I also wrote my own king arthur legend. Brian Kelly age 7

Rip roaring fun!
Maney holds nothing back in this devilish tale of the man we love to hate, Young Bob La Follette. Although Maney could have praised him, he totally ripped him a new one, and I thought it was totally awesome. Ultimate Warrior rules!
