I first did the plan after reading an article in UK Elle, towards the end of the 80s, and have been doing it regularly since then (once or twice a year).
In fact I'm doing it again now. But now I don't have the book, it's mostly from memory.
It's a fantastic plan to get energy back (particularly after those sluggish change of season times).
I have found it *the* single most effective way to reclaim my tastebuds, rid myself of bad eating patterns, cut out coffee, alcohol etc for more than just a few days.
So, I can highly recommend it to everyone...just hope they publish it again.
Klinger does a masterful job of using sources such as the 1883 Encyclopedia Britannica and the 1894 Baedeker's handbook of travel in Britain as well as recent scholarship. For example, in a footnote in the Noble Bachelor describing that there is food enough for four, "Holmes must have deduced that Lord St. Simon would not remain to share the repast; a point which Watson completely missed". Klinger also provided his own insights. The few appendices provide insight into such things as the identity of the snake in the speckled band or unrecorded cased recorded in the five orange pips. Perhaps the only annoying thing in the book is the use of abbreviations of some of the references. The Baring-Gold annotated Sherlock Homes is, still essential, and this is a welcome addition.
If you are new to Sherlock Holmes, this may not be the most economical way to pick up all of Conan Doyle's work. But if you are a long-time Holmes fan, or just want to experience the Holmes stories in a deeper and more informed way, I can think of no better purchase than this. ...

Soap opera script writers might reject her account of her episodic life as too unbelievable. Teenage bride and mother, young divorcee, uneducated, no financial resources-that's only the beginning. After she courageously earned degrees and found a new life partner, tragedy struck again. She lost her twenty-one year old son, through an accidental death on the oil rig where he worked. Once more, she had to choose between despair and affirmation. She chose affirmation.
I found this book uplifting. The author shares her road map for moving successfully through life's irrational losses. Written in warm, almost conversational style, All Is Not Lost will help you endure the sadness you have faced already-and prepare you for those discouraging events yet to come.
Do you want to help someone who is grieving, yet "don't have any idea what to say to them"? Give them this book. Leslie Charles extends the assurance and advice that grief-stricken people need.
All Is Not Lost blessed me, and will bless you and many others.

As an advisor to family owned businesses, I found the book particularly helpful in understanding the individual in relationship to the business and in understanding the interplay of the family system with the business system.
Ms. Dashew is straightfoward in her approach to the complexities of family owned business. She provides ample exercises that draws the readers attention to the issues with tips you can use in resolving those issues.
In her book, Ms. Dashew tackles difficult issues such as substance abuse (an issue too often supressed in the family and the business) and whether to join the family business. She brings clarity to the issues and provides practical advise.
Whatever your involvement with family owned businesses, this is a book that should be on your bookshelf.
I look forward to reading more from Leslie Dashew.
First, there must be a connection with one's own identity - of being clear about who you are and what you are about before you can adequately enter into the second part of the book - making connections with others.
Finally, having looked at some practical ways of connecting with others, Leslie brings us to the most interesting and dynamic of all human interactions - the family business connection.
Having grown up in a family business, I can state with certainty that the insights, lessons and tools that are provided in The Best Of The Human Side are pragmatic, useful and easily understood.
There is a healing that takes place as you begin to understand that the dynamics of a family business are shared by most, if not all, family businesses. Ms. Dashew pulls from a wealth of different sources (i.e. The I Ching to The Lion King) to explain the multifaceted issues that face family businesses and in that explanation, there is a connection with other families who are experiencing the same thing you are.
For anyone who owns a family business, works for a family business, consults to a family business or in any way is connected to a family business, this book is a must to read.
It is easy to read but don't let that fool you to the depth of its content. Take your time and reflect on each chapter. This book makes a real connection!

As a man I find that women writers tend to be more colorful, personal, and subtle in their choice of words. That is why I prefer this type of book over a giant glossary of quotations.
The best part of this book is the way the quotations are assembled around motivational-personal development themes. The choice of these themes shows a lot of enlightened thought and understanding by the editor, Leslie Ann Gibson. I've never seen such a high-quality collection of quotations around such well-chosen themes.
The only thing that I miss is a more thorough biographical index. It's hard for me to write or speak about what someone says unless the audience (and myself) knows who it is. So unfortunately, I have to spend a lot of additional time researching.
But all things considered this is a truly fine book that all serious writers and speakers should have in their personal libraries.
