A Book More Aimed at the Couch Potato
I picked this book because I'm 41 and am a software engineer that used to be in good shape, but not anymore. I was looking for some new routines that could inspire me for the summer months. Most of the stuff out there seems to be aimed at 19-year-olds with 2-3 hours a day to spare for a workout.

Anyway, there are some very good sections that deal with metabolic rates, plus some new things I didn't know. Abdo gets vague, too, on the idea of what really is "fitness" and that you can't pigeon hole it as pounds, body fat, etc.

The only thing I don't like so far is their approach to supplements. I just don't believe you need them and they go overboard - like taking anti-toxins with every meal, stuff like that.

All in all, it is a good book to get some ideas on getting *back* into shape and trying to reshape your life style. And it is one of the less expensive onew out there. There are no photos to show you how to do exercises correctly, just drawn "stick" figures. But if you're like me, that isn't a turn off to the book.

An illustrated chronicle of David Gilhooly's career.
This lavishly illustrated biography of David Gilhooly follows his career from his student years, doing ceramic sculpture at the University of California-Davis where "Nut Art," later called "funk," emerged in the 1960's, through to the early 1990's, when he established his own press and print studio. Among the illustrations are works by artists with whom Gilhooly has been associated, including Robert Arneson and Wayne Theibaud.

An interesting history
An interesting history of one of the oldest families in Nova Scotia and the United States. During the Revolutionary War brothers fight for opposite sides and when the war is over the Bristish sympathizers are deported to Nova Scotia where they contribute much to their new country. They also change their name to Durham. The American family remains Singletary, and is an important family throughout the south today as well as Mass. In the American Civil War, Singletarys again fought on both sides.

1 a.m. and I'm still reading an economics book
Perhaps Galraith's greatest appeal as an economist is the disdain he holds his own profession in. He is a merciless critic of thoughtlessness, ignorance, and the status-quo--and he's quite fun to read.

Because this is an anthology of his life's work, themes are occassionally repeated. But you don't need to know much economics, and the writings are current.

Good intentions, but comes up short
The chapter on Swedish social democracy (I was surprised how much better than manage their economy than the U.S.) is quite informative, and by far the best part of the book; however the chapters on Galbraith, Keynes, and political economy, among others, tend to be a little too short to do their subjects justice.
Having said this, this book is still a good effort, and would go far in a classroom to give an alternative to a subject too often biased toward the right.

From Russia with Love
From Russian with Love narrated by an extremely talented voice is well worth the purchase alone. Dr. No didn't quite hold my interest when I tried to listen and I didn't even attempt to listen to Goldfinger but again I highly recommend this for the one tape alone, the Narration is incredible.

Great anthology
This book contains excellent choices from the writings of Jonathan Edwards, the first great philosopher in the American colonies, including some of his earliest writings, mostly just philosophical or biological musings. It reflects some interesting developments in the maturation of his thinking. It also has letters to friends, colleagues, and family members. Some of his most well-known sermons are alongside some representative samples of his sermons. Unfortunately, there is room for only excerpts from his longer works, such as The Religious Affections, but that can't be helped in an affordable popular anthology. If you want all of his works, but the complete works from the same publisher. If you just want a representative sample of some of the best works of this great theologian and philosopher, get this.

The best book on evidence
My professor suggested this book and deemed it the "Bible on Evidence". I bought it and it is. A great book that will clear up many of your questions. If you don't understand what your law professor is saying, this book will make it clearer.
