A unique history of London Music Clubs in the 1950s/1960s
This is a marvellous book - a unique history of the London music club scene from the Skiffle and Folk eras of the 1950's, through the Blues, R&B, and Rock scenes in the 1960's. Not only are the famous venues detailed such as the Marquee, Flamingo, etc, but all the key and obscure suburban clubs are here too. Superb photos, tickets, billboards, maps etc are interwoven with a scholarly text detailing the early progress of the budding superstar groups as well as all the great bands who left their reputations intact but didn't progress to broader popular stardom. Absolutely essential reading for everyone who was there when it happened and for anyone else who is interested in those times.

Review of Mining the Hard Rock
A fascinating look into the history of mining in Southwest Colorado. The book is full of photographs and interviews that paint a real picture of what life was like for the men who worked the mines, and the mothers, wives , and daughters who lived with them in these isolated and rugged communities. The book provides an understanding not only of the tremendous hardships the miners endured, but also of the incredible accomplishments they achieved. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of the Southwest, or the history of hard rock mining.

An excellent outline of Neil Young's career (with photos)
This book is excellent for die-hard long-time Neil Young fans such as myself. It is essentially a chronological outline of Neil Young's musical career, with some narrative and many photographs interspersed with the outline. It starts at the begining of his musical career and ends at 1994, when the book was published. It also includes a discography. It is printed on high-quality glossy paper. The majority of the photos are black and white, but with a significant minority of the photos in color. It's fascinating to follow the twists and turns of Neil Young's career and his music. The outline tells when Neil Young recorded each of his songs, and it lists every concert he ever played by city and date. The narrative helps to expand on the outline and to move the story along. Highly recommended for serious Neil Young fans.

A GREAT & TOUCHING TRIBUTE TO THE MAN WHO TOUCHED OUR LIVES!
This book has it all. Stories from fans, DeadHeads, personal friends, associates, etc. Touching anecdotes. Humor. Love. Peace. And of course...THE MUSIC! No matter what your story is or how you "got on the bus" you deserve to have the oppurtunity to read this book. I promise you, whatever your connection to the Dead is, there is a story in here expressing your feelings. AMAZING. Please buy it, it is well worth it. All DeadHeads need to read this book (although I feel even someone who didn't even like the Dead would find this book equally amazing). I cannot say enough good things about this book. When I got through with my copy, I gave it to a friend because I was so touched I had to do something generous. Keep the "Unbroke Chain" alive my friends. Peace!

It's a good book in the way that it is written but its bad
Okay I havent actually read the book, but I like punk music! That gives me some credit, doesn't it? So, the thing is, that I was always wanting to have some kind of contribution to the punk scene as a whole besides going to punk shows in my local city. Though there are books about punk that I HAVE read, I thought it might be more interesting to say my nonexistent opinion on one I haven't read and see where my rambling thoughts take me. So now, you have experienced the inter workings of my messed-up-in-many-ways mind and probably still don't understand why I'm doing this, but I personally am very entertained by this activity. If you think I'm dumb, or cool, or want to send me death threats, send em to my email address included below. See ya in the pit!

Race of angels : Ireland and the genesis of U2
Published in Unknown Binding by Blackstaff Press ()
Author: John Waters
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

thoughtful and literary with indispensible interviews
This work, which is also available as _Race Of Angels: The Genesis of U2_ (exactly the same, different publisher) aims to trace and muse on the experience of being Irish as reflected in the work of U2. As such, it is not an easy-read band bio, and is written at let's say college level. However, the long interviews, especially of Bono, cover material that is just not found anywhere else; U2's remarks here have an uncensored, just-between-Irishmen feel that is rare.

The book, as hard as it is to find, is an absolute must-read for anyone interested in U2's Irishness, in their literary/cultural connections, or in their spiritual history -- it's full of amazing insights on all three. Generalist fans of the band should, of course, look elsewhere.

Fantastic!
Leave it to Gindick! He really is the foremost harmonica intructor. This book is approachable, and is loaded with valuable information for the novice and expert alike.

For novices, it explains the harmonica, how to hold it, how to play cross-harp. And let me tell you, it works. I bought the book along with his video, and I'm playing the blues the next day!

The book will continue to be a valuable reference for me. It contains riffs, scales, using mics, amps, etc...

This is great. Thank you Jon Gindick!

Rock Art Brought to Life
No one really knows what was in the minds of the people who made the prolific, and mysterious rock art of the southwest. Therefore most reputable books on rock art simply describe in dry archeological detail the design elements and locations of the various panels. Leslie Kelen is more of an oral-historian than a scientist. He simply recorded the words and stories the modern Native Americans tell about the art in their area. He combined this with a fine, scientifically accurate introductory essay on ancient cultures, and spectacular photography. The result is a real experience of Canyon Country Rock Art. The book captures the beautiful inscrutability of the rock art and some of the best stories commonly told about it. Many of the local Native Americans are both steeped in their native heritage, and well aware of the scientific community's analysis. This is not a book for scientists. It is a book for people fascinated with the southwest and who wish to add new colors and possibilities to their ruminations on rock art. This is a book for visitors to the southwest who want to see more deeply into the landscape they are traveling through. I have been a guide in the southwest canyon country since 1996, and this is the number one rock art book I recommend to clients.
