Good history of little studied world
Apostles of rock is an interesting look at the world of Contemporary Christian Music. It is part history, part study of the tension between christ and culture. The authors try to show how Christian muscians attempt to reach a wide audience and still remain true to their Christian ideals. The book is well researched and enjoyable to read. I would recommmend this to students of modern chrisitan culture and artists trying to balance their faith and the world of entertainment

Interesting . . . . . .
If everybody thinks Dick Clark started "American Bandstand," you're wrong. This book tells about "Bandstand" before Dick Clark became the host. It goes into great detail about the years between 1952 and 1956.
However, the book was slightly disappointing. I bought it in hopes the author would talk a little more about the kids who used to dance on the show (since learning my favorite disc jockey danced on the show in 1953), and it didn't. Can't win 'em all, right? Also there were many spelling and punctuation errors as well. But those can be easilly overlooked. All in all, this was a good book.

Gonna Kick It Root Down
This book is pretty cool. Its pretty much just a collection of articles about the boys and stuff like that so its not truly grand royal, but its worth having if you're a true Beastie Boys fan. Personally, I liked Rhyming and Stealing a lot better, but this book isn't all that bad. Lots of interesting little bits of information here and there. "Flowin' prose the cons the cons the pros, like Toucan Sam I gotta follow my nose..."

Better book available
"Big Walls!," by John Long, John Middendorf has the same info and is more readily available. Chapters on Big Wall history and other tidbits by Jim "The Bird" Bridwell makes the book worthy to own.

Whatever Gets You Through The Night
Compared with other books in this series, this is on par. Sometimes, you get the feeling that the author does not even like Lennon's music all that much. This book does the job but that's about it.

This is a itelligent book about Jim Morrison
This book is a collection of essays that explores the dark side of Jim Morrison. It is good for its essays which provide details and a plausable theroy of Jim's death as investigated by Albert Goldman. It is also fun to read due to other accounts of his life as told by lesser known writers and girlfriends such as Nico.

Post Punk Blues
This book does a great job of capturing London in the post-punk days of 1983. The lead character, Jeff, is an ex-saxophonist now working at a used record store (a la High Fidelity). He's drifting aimlessly, trying to figure out what happened to punk, and what's coming next. Some shit goes down, a co-worker is killed, he's besotted by a woman who keeps coming and going from his life, and his life drifts in and out of contact with an old bandmate, turned semi-big time star. Chock full of bars, junkies, and music industry types, the plot is interesting enough, but the main attraction is the sense of time and place Williams imparts.

Excellent introductory book to the subject.
The presentation is not exhaustive but it is clear and very well presented. The summary of Soil Mechanics is short and straight. Well suited for undergrad and a first graduate course.

The Hanging Rock Rebel: Lt. John Blue's War in West Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley

First Person Account
This book is an engaging first person account of the exploits of a rather daring Confederate foot soldier. The book is lifted from a series of newspaper articles John Blue wrote over 30 years after the War for Southern Independence ended. Blue does not get into the political and social issues of the day, but recounts in a straigtforward and interesting style the struggles of a soldier, including his experience as a prisoner of war and escapee. This book is particularly interesting to those familiar with the geography of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and the corridor through Brocks Gap into West Virginia where Blue grew up in site of what is still known as Hanging Rock.

A quite worthwhile book
Like most books in the 'How to Rock Climb' series the strength of this book lies in the fact that it covers a specific topic, thereby offering more relevant information.

Unlike 'Clip and Go' this book is not aimed at a specific level of difficulty, however it will be most worthwhile to advanced beginners and intermediates.

The best thing about this book is that it focuses on sportclimbing specific information. There is nothing about belaying, anchors etc. here, nor about crack climbing and placing protection.

The book deals extensively with different types of sport climbs, including slabs and walls, grouping together technique, tactics and tricks for one style of climbing in one chapter. I found this to be very helpfull.

There are also lots of little sport specific rope tricks throughout the book as well as information on just about every other subject of interest to the sport climber.

I have read lot of climbing books and this one definitely has content no other book has.

If you are a sportclimber who allready owns books about belaying and training, this book will complete your library, much better than 'Clip and Go'....
