Great ideas and pictures, with how-to's and plant index!
Overall I got a lot of ideas from looking at the pictures. The only drawback was that the captions didn't always list all plants used in the photo, making it difficult to recreate things exactly. But I did get inspired and planted 7 containers yesterday! A list of container-friendly plants in the back was very helpful, but could have been enhanced with a small photo of each so you'd know for sure if "Helictotrichon Sempervirens" is what you're looking for. The projects were interesting & I will attempt at least two next summer, but I wish there had been more. Probably because I'm new to gardening. I appreciated the inspiration from this book's photos.

Everything You Wanted to KNow...and More!
Raised Catholic in America, I knew about the rules and regulations of the Church but never learned some of the history behind the creation of the sacraments, infallibility, social teaching, Eucharist and the list goes on. What exactly is a papal bull? What does ex cathedra mean? Why a Pope? What about the Immaculate Conception, the Assumption of Mary and the other Mary beliefs that have confused and/or alienated Protestants throughout the ages? Was St. Christopher a real man? Was Buddha canonized? Is the church anti-military? Was there ever a female pope? Why can't priests marry? What about the Reformation? All of these questions are answered and more. Some of the answers cast an illumination that as a Catholic Christian makes me squirm'and then some answers completely decimate the ever-occurring belief that Catholics are not Christians. I recommend this book to historians, Catholics, Protestants and anyone else who has ever had a question on the Catholic way of doing things. Some of the answers aren't pretty, but the truth seldom is.

Eye for detail
The Eye - Principles and Applications, was found to be an essential tool. Forrester aims (and succeeds) to inform in detail everything a first year university student needs to know about the eye. This is the beauty of the book: It doesn't skim over anything. When you're looking for a book to give more than a general overview, but don't need the complexity a post-graduate may, a book such as this is perfect. The only valid criticism may be that the included diagrams were erratic: some were perfectly presented, but others, whilst correct, were sometimes confusing, especially for students. Overall, a useful book for research and reference.

Interesting overlooked work of SF
This is the fourth and central work of a series about the spiritual and technological rebirth of a future North America wrecked by nuclear war. Overtly the setting is straight after-the-bomb, but the construction of societies which each have their own strengths and weaknesses is nice, and the overall flow of the stories is well done.
This novel is the best of the series. Williams is a poor creator of setting and character, but the novel moves so gracefully through the plot that many readers will forgive him his failings. The title resonates over and over through events as symmatrical as the huge stone cities of the Pelbar, the one human society in central North America to have continued as an urban civilization.
As a literary engine, this is one of the finest fantastic stories I have ever read. Worth a try. If you like it, try the others.

Old, but still a great read
I just finished re-reading this book after having read it when I was a child. It is one of William Steele's classic frontier stories. The dialog is rich, the action is fast paced, the characters are fairly well-constructed, and there is even a moral to this tale. Trapped by raiding Indians without much water in a small fort with his family and a few other frontier families, Chad's father stands up for the Logan family, a poor woman with a young son about Chad's age, and two smaller children. The woman's husband, called Traitor by the others who are sure that he is in cahoots with the Indians. The other settlers want to force the Logan family outside the fort but Chad's father, Raburn, won't allow it. At first Chad is repelled by his father's standing up for this family of a traitor, but through the book he learns that it's not fair to judge or blame someone for what another person does - even if it's that person's father. Chad learns to follow his father's advice given near the begging of the book and resolves to "think things through" before forming an opinion. Young readers might be forewarned that this book was written at a time when Indians were portrayed as enemies to the early settlers of the American wilderness. Violence and death are portrayed in the book, as well as, heroism and bravery. For older readers who read these books as youngsters, it's a very good read.

How to integrate Gospel spirituality with Liturgy?
I received a copy of this book as a Christmas gift from the archbishop and at the next opportunity I thanked him in person. He encouraged me again to read it, saying, "The chapter on preaching is particularly inspiring." In order to fulfil my promise to him I sat down with the book. In spite of the short sentences, small paragraphs and the everyday language, it was not that easy a reading.

The book successfully brings out the need for our spirituality to be nourished and sustained regularly by the celebration of the Liturgy. One needs to be present at the Eucharist with one's receptivity and in touch with one's own brokenness. Liturgy is a golden event in which imagination has to play a vital role but the experience of the believer is indeed real. This book is helpful to the faithful to internalize the Gospel spirituality celebrated in the Eucharist. It would provide assistance to the presider-homilist as well as to the men and women in the pew.

Hamlet ESP.
Published in Paperback by Dramatist's Play Service (1998)
Authors: Paul Baker and William Shakespeare
Amazon base price: $5.95
Average review score:

Wow
In "Hamlet ESP," Paul Baker has captured the essence of William Shakespeare's masterpiece. He deconstructed the character of Hamlet so incredibly well that in his final version of the play there are actually three different Hamlets on stage simultaneously. Baker delves into the inner psyche of the mealoncholy Dane, and the result is an incredible interpretation of one of the best plays ever written.

Now and then, however, it is difficult to comprehend on the page, but when it is performed all the pieces come together and the result is something wonderful and awe-inspiring.

This book is definately recommended to any and all lovers of Shakespeare, Hamlet, or drama in general.

Slightly-dated, but a GREAT overview of the issues
A part of the "Opposing Viewpoints" series, "The Information Revolution" is a compilation of 18 articles (written by different authors including noted scholars, government officials and business leaders, and drawn from various journals, magazines, presentations, reports, etc.) which addresses many topics dealing with the on-going Information Revolution and its effect on today's society. An interesting book, it gives the reader a well rounded grounding into the issues that surround the Internet from including its effect on education and the workplace to other social issues such as privacy invasion, copyright infringement, the first amendment and the posting of controversial content online, to universal access and the issue of "haves" and "have nots." Reading this book gives any reader an appreciation for the controversy that is the Internet and the resulting Information Revolution. In the process of reading this book the reader gains an appreciation for and an introduction to the Internet and the impact it has had on society in such a short period of time.

The articles are presented in point-counterpoint format which is very accessible, addressing for major topics: the Information Revolution's effect on society, its effect on education, its effect on the workplace and its effect on human rights.

These are the topics the book addresses:

1.Will the Information Revolution benefit society?

2.Is society suffering from information overload?

3.Will it transform education?

4.Should schools emphasize computer education or not?

5.What will its effect be on the University system?

6.Will it transform the workplace?

7.What will its effect be on jobs?

8.Will it create a society of "have" and "have nots?"

9.Does it threaten people's right to privacy?

10.What is the constitutionality of banning indecent content?

11.What will its effect be on intellectual property rights?

In addition the book also contains a bibliography of sources and list of agencies' contact addresses which are beneficial to students doing research.

Written back in the mid-1990s some of the technological issues and problems discussed have already come to pass and been resolved. However, the social issues that are discussed are still very relevant even today, a few years down the road.

Overall, this book is a GREAT introduction to the Internet and its many problems and issues. The articles, though at times some are a little inaccessible, are very thought-provoking and at times the revelations of quite shocking. You get a good picture as to "both sides" of the issue and therefore get a deeper understanding of the many problems and concerns the Information Revolution has brought about.

I read this book as a supplementary text for a telecommunications course I took back in 1998. It is a great overview to Internet issues and a great tool for discussion and critical thinking. In sum, it is worth a read.

Recommended.

Excellent introductory overview to the US health system.
Williams and Torrens have developed one of the best introductory texts on the US health system. The book has clear learning objectives, useful references, and helpful diagrams. The American health system is farily and accurately described, warts and all.
