Great neighborhood resource
Williams is doing a marvelous job of illuminating the history of Washington DC's neighborhoods (first title was the Dupont Circle neighborhood & forthcoming 'Greater U Street'). Discriminating eye for the photographs that illustrate architectural history, social history & the portraits of those who shaped neighborhood development.

Easy reading in oceanography
As a teacher of Oceanography and Marine Biology (High School), I am constantly searching for a easy to use reference book. I had the fortune of participating with Dr. Joyce in a workshop and found him to be very knowledgable of oceanography. I was thrilled to learn that he had authored a book. When I got to read over it, I was even more pleased. It is perfect for any person needing a quick, easy to read reference in oceanography. Written in outline form, finding information is fast and detailed, without being a difficult read. I highly recomend this book for any student, teacher or marine professional.

Essential for all Political Science students
This is the bible, for lack of a better term, of political science.

I may be biased as several of the articles/definitions are contributions of my past professors, but the consistency of the writing doesn't hint that it is a compilation from many different experts.

In most cases, the contributing authors are the foremost authorities in their respective fields. That is apparent in the quality of this world-class publication.

The Pacific Northwest Coast
The book is valuable and understandable. I am doing research in preparation to a move to the west coast of Oregon. Professor Komar takes a complicated issue and makes it understandable for a lay person. He is clear about what level of evidence exists for various subjects and is clear when expressing his opinion. The book very much answered just about all the questions I had.

"Pecos Bill": A Military Biography of William R. Shafter
Published in Hardcover by Texas A&M University Press (1989)
Author: Paul Howard Carlson
Amazon base price: $44.95
Used price: $42.60
Average review score:

A FANTASTICALLY WRITTEN HISTORY ABOUT A FORGOTTEN HERO!
Paul Carlson writes history like most novelist would like to write fiction. He is informative about his subject without being a bore. Shafter was the man who cleaned up after Wounded Knee, put down the Pullman Strike and led our Armed Forces in Cuba during the Spanish American War. Why wasn't he publicized as an American hero? Because, he was too fat, was involved in a scandle or two and wasn't popular with the press. Carlson tells it like it happened. And that makes this book the absolute best of its kind.

This book can be read in fifteen minutes easily.
This book is truly written for the young reader; however, it can be read and enjoyed by all ages. There is really no new information, but it is treated in a different manner which is appealing. The story is told almost entirely by using almost all simple sentences so that is can be easily understood by the age group for which it is intended.

It is refreshing to have the author refer to Prince William's life as "an inspirational life" which it is when one stops and thinks about all the unfortunate circumstances he has endured in his sixteen and a half years of life.

The author succeeds in getting her point across. Any individual who is five years of age and can read will be able to read and to understand this book. The words which the author thinks a young reader may not know are written in bold print and are explained very simply in the glossary found on page 30.

One also get the Web site for the publishers from which one can download a free screen saver. also, there are two Internet Sites given for Prince William with which you are probably acquainted if you have always read about the young prince. All pictures are in color.

This is a delightful paperback book consisting of thirty-two pages.

Heart Warming & Eye Opening Storiest
I enjoyed this book as it reveals the stories behind the stars. It is suprisingly inspirational. This wonderful book prompted me to read Barbara Barrie's equally wonderful book, Second Act about her bout with colon cancer. Both Books givew great insight into life. Fame, beauty and Stardom matters not. One does not feel alone after reading these two wonderful books. One never knows what waits.
