Great!
I think this book is really great! It tells me what had discovered in the past 100 years in Egypt in order, includes tombs, temples, statues etc. This book is very useful, I think. This book is very suitable for those who really like egypt and it will seem be a dictionary to them. This book is very thick and are nearly all printed with colour. And it is not expensive so i highly recommend this to all of you. Hope you will enjoy it like me!

A Perfect Year-by-Year Chronicle of Egyptian Artifacts
I have this book but have not finished it yet, but from what I've read, I already know that it is wonderfully written, and should be easily read by anyone. And better yet, there are very many well-chosen pictures to match each discovery displayed on each page. The discoveries are put in order by year so it's easier to find the discovery you want to read about. There are many of the lesser known finds, such as the Oxyrhynchus Papyri, and greater(the Tomb of Twtankhamwn, for example). There are old(the Rosetta Stone,)and recent(Valley of the Golden Mummies). It gives the info---ALL the info---about the finds, such as Who, When, What, and tells the story of the person who found it. This book is perfect for anyone interested in Egypt or its artifacts. If you're one of these people, be sure to get this book!

Great Summarization
Since rediscovering Ancient Egypt after a laspe of 15 years this boo k was an excellent way to put things in persepctive. Clear overview of old and recent discoveries and an excellent starting place for in-depth research. Interesting reading and wonderful pictures.

Awakening Love
Awakening Love is an exceptional book which integrates the areas of psychology, medicine and spirituality. East and West truly meet in this book.

Awakening Love introduces Love as the power and the personality as the mechanism for transformation to reach one's soul expression. The personality is described through weaving information on the chakras, patterns of psychological wounding and directions for spiritual unfoldment. To illustrate the material, the personality and its patterns are described using the nine personality types of the enneagram. The nine personality types are clarified and deepened through the interpretation of Jesus' Teachings. Personality pitfalls and patterns of self-undoing are clearly explained as well as clear methods for personality integration and growth.

Meditation instruction is given for each of the nine personality types. Each meditation provides healing, personality integration and an infusion of soul awakening.

Awakening Love is a must read!

The path of unconditional love through self-knowledge
There is much valuable information here, packed in a small format. In the last few years, we have seen many books about psychotherapy and spirituality from a Buddhist perspective, such as Mark Epstein's "Thoughts without a thinker" and others. This book is about psychotherapy and spirituality from a Christian mystical perspective and should be of interest to many (including non-Christians, in the same way one does not have to be a Buddhist to be interested in Epstein's books). The authors present the Christ Self as a metaphor for the realized Self. My reading of the book has been slow at times, because there is much information and wonderful insights to absorb. I particularly enjoyed the ten meditations in Chapter 8--who does not want to "transform vices into virtues" for one's particular personality type?

Awakening Love
I am excited to find a book so exceptionally well-written, so complete, so rich in concepts and information. It is likely the best psychology book I have ever read.

Awakening Love makes Enneagram personality study vibrant and clear. We learn "the astonishing power of our thoughts"-how each personality type creates thought forms which either enslave the mind or transform the soul. To take this learning even further, Jesus' teachings are woven in for instruction in the self-realization of the nine personality types. Discussion of world religions is fascinating and supports the understanding of underlying spiritual principles. Supplemental materials include insightful exercises within the text and sacred meditations among the appendicies.

This book is well worth the purchase simply to consider the perspective of any one of these aspects of study. Yet it's the weaving of them that makes this book a gem-a rich tapestry of personality theory and spiritual transformation tools that will inspire profound growth and awakening to your truest Self.

Best american Crime Writing
An excellent collection with great writing. Edgy, evocative, atomshpereic with fully developed character studies that are made even more fascinating by the fact that these are real people and events. The crime reporters explore the conjunction of everyday life and the many faces of pathology. Could not stop reading; can't wait for the next edition.

A Rare Gem In The Genre!
Although I'm a fan of true crime, most of the genre doesn't meet my standards. Too often I find that it focuses on the criminal and the macabre, gruesome, or sensational aspect of whatever story is being told and appeals to a certain prurience which I find distasteful. Often, the victims are forgotten or neglected in favor of the criminal, whose story may be more interesting or titillating. This remarkable collection, however, includes only well-told stories from respectable publications. Most of the 17 stories are riveting and will linger with you long after you've finished the book. These are true human interest stories which never ignore the real tragedies involved. Kudos to the editors for managing to find such quality stories. I can't wait for the next edition!

Excellent Book!!
This book is a wonderful read!! It contains 17 articles written in the past year by excellent journalists from various magazines such as: GQ, SPIN, THE NEW YORKER, ATLANTIC MONTHLY, ESQUIRE, VANITY FAIR and more. The variety makes it nice because you get to read different styles of writing by different authors on different subjects. The subjects too are a variety in range: "The Cheerleaders" focuses on a town in New York hit by tragedy after tragedy; "A Prayer For Tina Marie" is a wonderful article about a woman who murdered her two kids in an unthinkable way (much worse than Andrea Yates); "Flesh and Blood" is about the murder-for-hire by pro football player Rae Carruth... AND MUCH MORE!! With such quality of writing, you don't want to miss this book. I am really hoping that more of these will be published!!

Beautiful and Inspiring
One of the things I do when I looking for ideas for new paintings is to look through this book. I also go for walks, take photographs and go to museums and galleries but when those options are unavailable or inconvenient books like the "Best Of" series are a great help.

This book contains works in more than just 'pure watercolor'. Many of the most beautiful works are mixed media. The common denominator being that an aqueous media has to be the dominant element in the painting. Thus there are works in gouache, acrylic, pen and ink with watercolor, gold leaf, watercolor pencils, water-soluable pastels...basically anything that can be used with water. An added extra is that many of the paintings list what surface was used. Books like these are always a great pleasure and inspiration to look through.

Spectacualr watercolor showcase, sure to inspire
This showcase book is packed with spectacular watercolor art with a wide variety of subject and style, including people, nature, still-life and abstract. It is delight to leaf through and a great source of inspiration.

Some of my favorite pieces include a beautiful lily pond landscape by David Lee and a portrait of a woman by Paul McCormack. I also liked two different collage style pieces fish and fishing poles by Patricia Scott and another with shells, birds and writing by Judy Hoiness. I enjoyed a colorful abstract by Margaret Manter and a still life of melons by Sue Archer.

Caption information includes artist, title, size, paper used and sometimes medium notes. Artist addresses and a brief note about the judges are included in the back. This book makes a great gift for the watercolor artist or enthusiast.

A beautiful collection of award-winning works.
Both the Best of Watercolor and the Best of Watercolor 2 are filled with a wonderful assortment of beautiful work by current, award-winning watercolorists. The techniques and subject matter are varied, and give the reader a terrific selection of truly fine work.

Exciting and tautly written
The second novel of the John Paul Jones Trilogy by Nicholas Nicastro, Between Two Fires continues the saga of America's first naval hero. An historical fiction, Between Two Fires offers the reader a riveting 18th Century odyssey of bravery, battle, tragedy, and loss on the high seas, exciting and tautly written. Also very highly recommended is the first novel of this outstanding trilogy, The Eighteenth Captain...

Provocative, Gruesome March to Nationhood
There are no easy blacks and whites in Nicholas Nicastro's wonderfully written tales of the American Revolution. Forget about the flag-waving pabulum that your ninth grade textbook passed off as American History. Nicastro portrays John Paul Jones as a Napoleonic .... who alternates his barks with his bites as the never-say-die commander of the Bonhomme Richard. The monomaniac runs many of his men and his ship into extinction while defeating the British Serapis.

The even more engrossing parallel tale in "Between Two Fires" revolves around conscience-stricken Captain Severance, who watches his Colonial comrades barbarically commit genocide against the Iroquois Nation. Nicastro takes Lechterian delight in describing the atrocities perpetrated under General Sullivan's command--officers parade around in flesh cut from the hides of Native Americans while burning and desecrating village after village. Yes the Indians do commit their share of torture, but theirs, as described by Nicastro, is a far more noble form of sadism.

Should David Lynch ever decide to direct an 18th Century war picture, this book is filled with a wonderful cache of quirky historical curiosities. A female character aboard Jones's ship dedicates her life to capturing the ideal physical traits of people she meets in her sketchbook. Her goal is to create a composite which would match the image of Jesus Christ. I won't betray the macabre manner in which she locates the preeminent nose. Joseph, the noble Native American hero aboard the Richard, has his teeth knocked out halfway through the saga and speaks the remainder in a humorous lisp. George Washington is a self-conscious poser, pretending to act as a great commander should act-- the Ronald Reagan of his day.

The book does have a few narrative flaws. Would an eighteenth century officer really write letters describing all the grotesqueries of war, not missing a morbid detail, to his bride-to-be? Would he also write extensively about his obvious attraction for a headstrong Native American woman?

But minor exceptions aside, this is a novel not to be ignored--certainly for fans of seafaring novels but more broadly for anyone hungering for sharply written historical ficition, fiction with a harsher, less propagandistic view of the era.

Book With Fire...
The worst thing about reading great trilogies is the wait. I re-read the first book, "The Eighteenth Captain", just prior to the release of "Between Two Fires"; as I often do with a much anticipated release. If you haven't read the first book...do yourself a favor and grab a copy.

"Between Two Fires" provided some of the best historical fiction writing I've had the pleasure to page-turn. You don't need to be a history, war or nautical buff to truly enjoy the well-developed, fascinating characters in Nicastro's follow-up book. He has a way of writing dialogue that makes you feel a part of the conversation...as if you might be standing next to the characters. No easy task.

This book has everything I enjoy...action, compelling characters, period atmosphere that draws me into the time, and a great story. Please get the third book out a bit quicker.

Extrordinarily well-done study of a lost classic
This book is a solid cut above most of the breed, very well written and adorned with first-class drawings and photographs. The only element of the Stratocruiser story it overlooks is the fascinating tale of hidden US goverment financial support for the airlines that purchased it, which is covered in Ernest K. Gann's 1974 book "Flying Circus."

It's a real tragedy that no Stratocruisers were preserved; it seems I was just born too late.

"Sweet Memories"A True QUEEN of the SKIES"
This book is truely a must have item if you want to know all about a beautiful Boeing Airliner of yesteryear This book really is very informitive & is full of great pictures of the mighty "Stratocruiser" a true "QUEEN" of the SKIES that left to early in HER life! It takes your interest from page to page. The Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation from Toms River NJ now ownes & operates one of the last surviving "STRATS" that is still AIRWORTHY! This is the military version the C-97G that flew with the USAF & SAC n the 50's& 60's.Truely a one of a kind great Propliner from the past! (...)

Highly recommended for all aviation history enthusiasts
Boeing's model 377 was originally developed from the B-29 bomber that flew so effectively during World War II. The four-engine civilian passenger liner model was named "Stratocruiser" and bridged the gap for Boeing in its transition from war-time bomber production to the development of the all-jet 707 in the late 1950s. The Stratocruiser set the standards for airborne luxury travel and ushered in a romantic era in the golden age of commercial aviation. Highly recommended for all aviation history enthusiasts and the ninth volume of the outstanding AirlinerTech series, Boeing 377 Stratocruiser's text is enhanced with 160 photos and line art, including eight pages of color photography.

great for framing
The quality of the prints is very good and they are a good size. The price is good enough to buy 2, one to use to frame and the other for the coffee table. Great photos!!

Unbelieveable Value
This book offers 27 beautiful, botanical prints in a variety of colors that are ideal for framing. (Between my sister, best friend and myself we're framing 20 of the 27). However, if you are looking for a nice coffee table book keep in mind that this is paper-backed. Also, if you are interested in reading about botanical prints this book has little narrative.

Beautiful, frameworthy prints!
In the 1600s, the Prince-Bishop of Eichsttt, Germany created a stunning garden filled with flowers, fruit, vegetables, trees and pleasure-houses, at the center of which was his palace. His intention was to recreate the Garden of Eden here on earth, and he searched everywhere for the rarest and most lovely of plants to include. His endeavor was documented by some of the best artists of the time, who drew these beautiful botanical images, which then were printed on the largest paper then made, and bound into books. Only a handful of these were hand-colored, to be offered for sale to those whose pockets were deep enough to afford them.

The 27 images selected for this book are exquisitely printed, each measuring about 10" x 13". The colors are fresh and the paper stock has a beautiful, soft sheen and a good weight. These botanical illustrations are fine enough to be framed, and are useful as resource for the artist and designer.

The first time I encountered these images was in poster form about 20 years ago. I loved them, and was so happy to see them offered again. The designs are elegant, some more graphic and modern than others, some more clearly antique. This book is worthwhile for all those who love botanical illustrations.

Calling All Saints

Very informative and entertaining. Extremely readable
I found Calling All Saints easy to read and very entertaining. It really brings the Saints back down to earth and helps us to remember that they were actual people. Even my 10 year old enjoys it.

Entertaining, scholarly and popular treatise on saints
As a professor of Art History, I am intrigued with connecting art and popular culture. Brother Tom writes in a style I associate with the Franciscans, down to earth, yet extremely meaningful and inspiring. When teaching Medieval Art, I now incorporate some of the stories from Calling All Saints which really enliven my lectures, proving that sacred subjects can be fun and enlightening. I can't wait for the next book and would love to see some illustrations included.

Excellent Book
An excellent and easy to read book about our Saints. Costa does an great job of putting the saints lives in everyday terms.

Beautiful Paintings, Interesting Life
This is a very well written account of Cleve Gray's fascinating life with many large color reproductions including Threnody his famous installation at the Neuberger Museum in Purchase,New York. Rediscover what really good painting is all about! I've seen his paintings in New York City at Berry-Hill Galleries and they are a knockout! Don't miss the book or the paintings!

Well written informed account
Weber's book on Gray fills the void on one of America's historically grained and distinctive artists. He draws on much of Gray's life experience, and recounts the cubist, impressionist and abstract influences on Gray's art.

Intelligently written, beautifully illustrated long overdue
This book is a long overdue review of the work of Cleve Gray, an underrated modern master of color. The book is extremely well illustrated and written in a personal, highly intelligent style. The style of writing befits this often neglected and apparently misunderstood artist. Perhaps it will help gain Mr. Gray some of the public recognition he deserves for loyally following his highly individualistic and colorful techniques.

Anesthesia from A to Z
"Clinical Anesthesia Procedures of the Massuchussets General Hospital" offers concise yet thorough coverage on all aspects of anesthesia. From preoperative visit to basic airway management, from fluid requirements of the surgical patient to specific considerations on cardiac, respiratory and liver diseases, this book has it all in an easily accesible way, especially when your above the "blood-brain barrier". I would especially recomend the chapter on resuscitation of trauma and burns victims, because of the thorough coverage of the subject, better than in many surgical textbooks I have read.

Excellent Teaching Tool and Reference!
I have over 15 years of experience as an anesthesiologist at the prestigious Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut. I've seen it all; however, this text challenged me. I highly recommend it, and every practicing MD and CRNA should have a copy to review and use as a teaching tool and guide.

This is the only book you'll need in anesthesia!
This book encapsulates all the necessary information for clinical practice of anesthesia. It also includes MANY charts and protocols for drugs, malignant hypothermia, ACLS, etc. I can't enter the OR without it.
