The Healing Nutrients Within is a must if you want to stay healthy. It's about proteins and amino acids. Amino acid deficiencies and inborn errors of amino acid metabolism are important causes of diseases, some of them deadly.

Problems with amino acids may cause mental or physical illnesses or both. So you should own this book if you want to have a sound mind in a sound body.

There is a separate chapter for each of the amino acids found in the human diet. And there are an amazing hundred-plus pages of scientific references.

Serous subject, vital information
This book strikes at the core of nutritional know how. If your serious about fueling your nutritional knowledge base and intrested in real world application of that data. This boook is for you. Really, this is not an light reading. This book is chock full of information that you will keep going back to. This is a book that you keep for life! One of the best references on my shelf. Scientifically detailed but easily understood. When I have a query about an amino acid, I usually reach for this book first. If it doesn't have the precise answer I want, the reference lists contained in the book will lead me to find what I need.

THE book to get for 70-219 exam!
I tried the Microsoft Press, returned it. Tried the Sybex, returned it. Finally found this gem written by Curt Simmons from a publisher (Prentice Hall) not known for their Certification books. This book has all that you need to pass the exam and none of the junk that waste your time. This author has done what Sybex and Microsoft couldn't, write an easy to understand book with the material you need to help you achieve a great passing score in minimal time. I'd give this book a 6 stars if it was possible.

A Damn good book!
Like to book claims, 'Pass Microsoft's Active directory exam with flying colors!'. This book is well-organized, containing only relevant information that you need. The book is only 300 pages and the content is written in a easy to understand format(short chapters). Curt Simmons knows his exams, he stresses design considerations rather than 'how-to configure the OS' stuff which is not on the exam and justs wastes your time. The 5 case studies included (although not as complex as the real thing) gets you familiar with the format and helps you identify the info that is important for answering the question(s). Also comes with a Training CBT and companion website. I highly recommend this book for preparing for 70-219, if you can find it as availability is scarce.

Very Good!
This book is very easy to read and is very focused on the content I saw on the exam. There are 5 case study questions that look like the exam format and they really tested my knowledge of AD design issues. I recommend it!

Edgeware: insights from complexity science for health care leaders

Complexity science explained to the masses!
As an innovation matures, it moves from one characteristic group of adopters to another. The topics of complexity and nonlinear dynamics were initially adopted by people who were considered "outliers" by their peer group, "freaks". Such innovators are comfortable spanning across disciplinary boundaries to learn how something works. The successful diffusion of the innovation does not occur however until the innovators hand over the ideas to the change agents in the system--those individuals who are creative enough to listen to the innovators, and yet respected and legitimized enough within the system to steer collective opinion. Today complexity and nonlinear dynamics have reached that level of diffusion, and in such instances "implementation" becomes of utmost important, and such discussion of implementation is necessarily domain-specific.

Such is the nature of "Edgeware", a new book by Zimmerman, Lindberg, and Plsek. "Edgeware" is aimed at health care leaders--nurses, doctors, and administrators--who want to learn specific techniques and intervention strategies based on the premises of complexity. The book is broken up into four sections: a user-friendly primer on complexity, a summary of basic managerial principles based on complexity (e.g. "grow complex systems by chunking"), tales from the field (e.g. "Learn-as-You-Go Strategic Management", a story from University of Louisville Hospital), and Aides (e.g. "wicked questions" that surface differences in people's mental models). Additionally there is an appendix written by Adelphi professor Jeff Goldstein that provides the most effective "non-mathematical" nominal definitions of complexity terms that exists anywhere.

The book is unique in several respects. First, the authors span an intriguing experiential set. Zimmerman is an associate professor of business at York University in Toronto, and has written extensively on the "fractal" nature of organizations, and on emergent strategic planning. Lindberg directs an educational and consultative activity within VHA (Voluntary Hospitals of America, a purchasing cooperative that also engages in leadership and organizational development, and encompasses over 1400 health care providers in the U.S.), transfering the concepts of complexity into health care practice. Plsek is a former corporate quality manager at AT&T who now consults extensively in health care quality issues. Second, the book is the result of an evolutionary design process where it was given extensive "field testing" before being finalized. "Edgeware" essentially serves as the handbook for VHA's efforts to spread the concepts of complexity into practice.

Third, the book is arranged in a hypertext fashion (in fact, it is available on-line to VHA members), in a fashion similar to Senge et al's "Fifth Discipline Fieldbook". For example, references to books or articles, or principles and aides, are made in the margin of each "tale"; the book does not need to be read sequentially. Fourth, the science of the book is solid. Unlike so many other business and complexity books being published, the principles of complexity are represented faithfully. Finally, the book's section on "Aides" gives practitioners very specific advice on how to move from theory to practice, another missing element in most current business and complexity books.

This book is an excellent read and reference for anyone interested in the application of complexity principles to business and social systems.

from Dan Beckham, contributing editor of Healthcare Forum
Peter Drucker once described healthcare as the most complex of all business enterprises. So perhaps it's appropriate that the best book on the emerging science of COMPLEXITY should come out of healthcare. EDGEWARE will prove useful to managers in all industries. The book contains a primer on complexity, a set of unifying principles, practical applications, a rich bibliography, glossary and web site guide making it, page-for-page, the most valuable book to date on complexity and management.

At last. Authors who reveal the clarity in complexity.
As a journalist and business author myself, I've read virtually every book seeking to apply complexity science to strategy, work, and economics. None, I assure you, comes close to EDGEWARE in terms of sheer clarity and utility. Though solid on the theory of complexity, this book's real breakthrough in its tremendous practicality for leaders. The pages are brimming with case after case--episodes of complexity in action that inspire as well as inform. For leaders (in hospitals and anywhere else) who ask, "What do I do on Monday morning?" EDGEWARE provides literally dozens of suggestions.

Don't get me wrong. Applying complexity is hard work. No book will ever make it easy to abandon command-and-control leadership or to let organizations "play" their way into the future. But with EDGEWARE as your guide, the work will be joyous.

Indispensable Printed Reference
While studying early greek "Christian Forfathers" and their lives and influences, ALOT of names get mentioned. When such a name is mentioned you think to yourself..: "who is this?", "why did the author mention this person?, what context should I look at this in?" Often times proper understanding behind the names mentioned can be the key that opens the door to context. I bought this book And it's companion
(ISBN: 0062700561) The Harper Encyclopedia of Military History From 3500BC to the Present (from a third party vendor). Niether one have let me down in accuracy or thoroughness. And has repeatedly helped me achieve a more accurate view of history itself as well as how it has been shaped by militarys. A 'must have' for any home library.

Dupuy's Harper Encyclopedia of Military Biography
One thing about it, this book and "maybe" another one would replace all those biographies that take up too much room on one's bookshelf (especially mine). I especially like it when a good majority of our nation's military leaders (those on the Joint Chiefs) are included when no other volume even comes close. Great job, Colonel, and also outstanding work, Mr. Johnson

One of the best references
I have studied Military History for quite some time, and have always wanted a "quick reference" book for each figure in history. A lot of times, I will be watching a movie, and they will mention "General whoever" or another figure, and I jump up, grab this book, and read a brief history on the person involved.

This book is excellent in that respect. Do not buy this book for an in depth look at different personalities of military history. However, for a quick reference, this book cannot be beat. It is quite extensive, and seems to be unbiased in it's opinions of the people involved.

Zagatsurvey 2001 New York City Restaurants

Authors: Audrey Farolino, Curt Gathje, and Zagat Survey

A wonderful guide
The Zagats put out a class A guide to New York City restaurants giving three ratings for each place: (1)quality of food, (2) decor, and (3) quality of service. The guide also includes what the average price of a dinner with wine is for each restaurant rated. There is no long description of the menu, ambience etc. However, the short blurbs are often humorous and the basic information is given.

The restaurants are listed in alphabetical order but there are extenssive lists of different categories, such as French (and every other ethnic category), vegetarian, kosher and just about every other traditional category you can think of. There are nummerous other categories as well, such as best places if you are eating alone, best "power" places, most romantic, best places for kids, for teens etc. I have barely scratched the surface .. the breakdown of categories is very extensive and I find them to be extremely useful.

Like I say, there is no extensive description of the restaurants rated but, there are a lot of them that are reviewed and this is a wonderful source for quickly finding the right place to eat amongst hundreds of choices. An additional feature is that the book is not restricted to Manhattan; good restaurants from all the boroughs are included. I highly recommend this book.

A must have for the new visitor or the native New Yorker
Among the plethora of guide books to New York restaurants and and nightlife, the Zagat guides (there is also a Zagat guide to Nightlife and a Zagat guide to specialty food shops)have always stood alone at the top- and with good reason.

No other book can came close to matching the accuracy of these handy little guides. Easily organized alphabetically in the main section and then reorganized again in the back by both type of establishment (type of cuisine in the case of the restuarant guide) and location (ie. upper east side, village, etc.) all the best restuarants are right at your fingertips.

Each establishment is rated on a scale of one to thirty in three categories (food, decor, and service in the restaurant guide) and then there is a small paragraph blurb below about the place and what its like. I have found these descriptions to be TOTALLY accurate and more than once have gone to a place and described it to my friends only to find that the Zagat guide had the exact same thing to say.

All in all, a very accurate guide. An indispensible tool whether or not you are visitng NYC for the first time or, like me, you live here and are just looking for somewhere new to go!

I'd give these suckers 10 stars if that was an option!

the bible for any decent gourmet
It cannot be missed on your shelf or bag when ever you want to have a wonderful dinner in NY. This book is deeply reliable even for a very demanding person for food as me. The formula of the book allows you to get to know whatever you are looking for in a few minutes. Comments are brief but give you the exact idea of the place. No other food guide book can be so reliable and useful as this one here. Try also the one on London and Paris which are fantastic too. We are all looking forward to the one on Milan.......

A perfect book for our phony society
Today corporate America has joined the sanctimonious trend in our society under the "giving back" theme. I imagine what a breath of fresh air it would be to hear the following candid statement from a corporate CEO or Board Chairman after refusing to kowtow to political correctness:

"We sell a quality product that our customers value. We have provided our employees with the means of supporting themselves with dignity, good wages, benefits, and a good working environment. We have worked hard to create wealth for our investors who after all are people with varying needs and means - and not all of them fantastically wealthy. We pay our share of taxes. In summary we already gave back to the community! As for giving to charity - any of our investors has the right to give in any way or amount (time or money) to any organization he or she sees fit. They don't need us to make that decision for them."

The "giving back to the community" phoniness implies that while running a business you are obviously taking from others - you are a drag on society at large and need to give back to equalize things - Karl Marx couldn't have come up with a better slogan.

Highly Recommended!
Curt Weeden tells corporations that social investing through charitable contributions can help society, and can be good business. Then he explains why, and how. This detailed guide explains ways to get the most out of each philanthropic investment, benefiting the non-profit organization and the company's reputation, employee motivation and bottom line. Weeden provides only a few examples of companies that have engaged in corporate social investing, but the introductions by Paul Newman and Peter Lynch are more hands-on because both are active in philanthropy. The book focuses on instructions for setting up your firm's social investing system. Suggestions cover choosing a non-profit recipient, figuring tax benefits, and other nuts-and-bolts issues. The book is oriented to CEOs and top corporate managers, though we at getAbstract also recommend it to academics, stockholders and fundraisers. If you are considering social investing, this is a good guide. And if you're not, it'll explain why you should. (Note: Tax matters discussed are

A Must-Read for Nonprofits
Nonprofit organizations, particularly grassroots agencies, would do well to absorb the lessons in Corporate Social Investing which demystify and challenge corporate giving policies. We've found it much more enjoyable than most business texts, and we found ourselves laughing at some of Curt Weeden's analogies on more than one occasion.

A First Step Into the World of Science
This is the most colourful book I own. A wide variety of photos are presented in different topics to make readers grasp the 'everyday' feeling. Every topic covers an idea with a well-written short text which is understandable to first-timers. This is a book I would recommend to junior science students and general readers who want to begin their exploration in science.

Magnificent science book for both children and adults!
This is one of the most accessible science books on my shelves. Since I am always on the look-out for science books which have as much visual content such as photos, pictures, graphs, etc. for my Deaf students, as they do written language...this book was perfect. For regular teachers who are looking for books that can be used in inclusive classrooms, this is definitely a winner. Luckily the type is extremely large, so with the new technology coming out which allows a visually impaired person to either use a mouse with a camera, or a 'reader' to also access this book. I wish more companies and educational/science books would use this format...we wouldn't be having such a difficult time in inclusive classrooms if they did. As an adult and a neuroscientist too, I thoroughly enjoyed going back and relearning things I had forgotten, or things such as astronomy I just hadn't been taught. Cudos to the author and National Geographic once again! Karen Sadler, Science Education, University of Pittsburgh

A GREAT BOOK THAT LIGHTENS THE HEAVIER SIDE OF SCIENCE
This book by The National Geographic and Washington Post Science editor Curt Suplee is a real stunner. National Geographic does it again, with great photo editing and use of art work, it brings science to life. You'll begin to think atoms are highly personable, and really quite friendly. If you flunked science back in school and want to understand the world around you...its not too late, try this book!

Me hate this, make me so mad.
This book am so awful. Sometime me read and feel very mad at universe. Me read to me 4 year old son. Most comics am not violent enough for he. This am 'cause made long time ago when comics having more blood. Now we talk bizarro all over house. Make us sad sad sad.

Pure, delightful sillyness
You know, as much as I appreciate the plethora of "Bizarro" reviews for this book, I feel there should be at least ONE straight review for people who aren't in on the joke. So in case you don't quite get it -- Bizarro is Superman's imperfect duplicate. Everything he does is the opposite of Superman. That's pretty much the gist of it.

This book collects the "Tales From Bizarro World" series from the old Adventure Comics title -- stories about a whole planet of Bizarros, including Bizarro-Lois Lane, Bizarro-Jimmy Olsen, Bizarro-Lex Luthor, Bizarro-Supergirl and even Bizarro-Krypto the Superdog.

Amazingly, these stories were written by Superman creator Jerry Siegel himself. They're pretty simple, pretty light, and some of them make absolutely no sense even in BIZARRO logic. It's fluff, but it's enjoyable fluff. It's pure, beautiful Silver Age wackiness, and it's well worth the read for any fan of Superman or goofy comic books in general. Pick it up.

THIS AM BAD BOOK OR ELSE!
Me am thinking you not like this book because it not about Bizarros. It am about Bizarros. Bizzaro code: Us do opposite of earthly things. You am not going to read this book. IT AM BAD. :o)
