Peppino

Picnic Table Time Machine In a New Castle Garage
... Most of us, having reached seventy plus find it easy to remember details half a century earlier even when we can't remember where we put our glasses five minutes ago... so it was with Joseph DeVivo when he sat down at a picnic table in the garage of his New Castle, Pennsylvania home to remember his youth for grandson Curt Meine,, In great and vivid detail he described his life as a little Italian mountain boy, up to and including the touching farewell to his village as he headed for Naples and a ship to America...this narrative is simple and straightforward and the reader gets a feel for what life was like for this little boy so very long ago.. De Vivo died in 1993 at the age of 90.. You sense the joy of the interviewer for taking the time to sit and listen and record the memories of his grandfather..after finishing this very small book, the reader wishes, too, he had taken the time to listen and record memories of his elders.

Peppino
From the beautifully designed cover, to the many stories of wonder, adventure, and hardship, "Peppino" takes you into the intimate theatre of Joseph Devivo's memory. Before you've reached the end, you've grown protectively close to 'lilla' Peppino. And, the nostalgic scenes from his boyhood in rural Italy and industrial America have filled your heart.

I think it's a great gift book and a great quick read. The only problem is that you'll find yourself wanting more.

It has inspired me to record the stories of my own grandparents.

Beautiful in content and appearance
This book is a treasure. Congratulations to Curt Meine for his decision as a young student to interview his grandfather for an oral history project and then to put Peppino's endearing stories together in this beautifully illustrated and handsomely produced slim volume. I am a native of New Castle, Pa., and even though I
haven't lived there for years, I make periodic visits to relatives and still know the DeVivo family, so a reader might assume my comments are biased. But I believe Peppino surely has popular appeal, and anyone reading it will love it as I did.

Criminal behavior : a psychosocial approach

Not a Bad Book
This book is pretty good as a first text in a criminal psychology class. It has a lot of information about current and old research in the field. The only thing that keeps this book from being 4 or 5 stars, is the fact that it's pretty dry, and a little difficult to read.

Excellent Book by an Amazing Man
I have had the honor to have Dr. Curt Bartol himself as a Professor at Castleton State College, VT. His writings are clear, easily understood, and the most comprehensive I've seen. I believe this to be one of the only Psychosocial Approaches to Criminal Behavior. It is also required reading for all FBI Agents. Dr. Bartol and this book deserve much praise and respect. He is most certainly at the forefront of his field!

HTML 4.0 Fundamentals
The content of the book was easy to follow. I had no problem understanding the text or completing the exercises. My only problem with this book was that the some of the exercises in Units 5, 6, & 7 refer to student files not on the floppy disk that came with the book. I was able to manually recreate some files in order to complete the exercises. It was disappointing and frustrating, to say the least, not to have the corresponding files to go with the exercises in the manual. Perhaps I got an old floppy from a previous HTML course the published? Other than that, I enjoyed the tutorial.

I Recommend This Book !
" I have NEVER read such an exceptional presentation of HTML as DDC's HTML Fundamentals. This Publication is superb! It's incredibly clear, concise, and logically sequenced with practical, jargon-free exercises." - Sandi Scanneli, Training Manager

Comprehensive manual
Much better than the Chilton manuals ... I've owned a couple of Chevettes and I've used both. The Haynes manual has much better procedure descriptions, and wiring diagrams that aren't even included in the Chiltion's books. If you plan to work on your Chevette you should get both books, but you won't go wrong relying on just the Haynes manual.

The History of Musical Instruments
Published in Hardcover by W W Norton & Co. (1940)
Author: Curt Sachs

Used price: $18.50
Average review score:

Exhaustive but Aged
As it is really the first complete work on the history of musical instruments, this is a foundational text. In the sixty years since its publication, though, opinions and interpretations have changed, and better research has been done.

Nonetheless, the very readable style and global scope make this a worthwhile investment. The illustrations are very good for the time it was published. The organization is clearly structured by chronology and geography, yet connections are made across these boundaries. I enjoy the book immensely, both as a reference and for pleasure.

HTML 4.0 Intermediate
The content of the book was easy to understand. Geared toward users with a very basic knowledge of HTML. The layout and format were excellent. My only problem with this book was that the data disk enclosed with the book did not match the exercises. I had the same problem with the Fundamentals book. I worked around the problem and got the full effect of the lessons anyway.

Extraordinary photos of variety of landscape in Iowa
The photographs in this book are extraordinary - pictures that represent the real beauty of the state of Iowa. The landscape varies from the 500 foot bluffs over the Mississippi River, tall hills and deep valleys, beautiful autumn colors; to the expected rolling hills of Grant Wood and the big sky over the prairies of tall grass. There is so much variety in Iowa, which this book captures in color-saturated photographs. My only consideration is I wish that there was more description of the places which are pictured. Photographs are either identified briefly by their titles, or not at all.

Cool book
This was one of the better books I have seen in the MCSE for Dummies series. Very short and to the point, for such a big exam (4 hours). The author's witty style kept you interested. I read this the 2 weeks before I passed the exam.

Lightweight, richly illustrated overview of science history
Award-winning science writer Curt Suplee provides a lightweight overview of the history of science in this richly illustrated book from National Geographic. It's effectively written in a series of very short (one-page) chapters, each one covering a specific scientific advancement and accompanied by an appropriate illustration or illustrations. Not surprisingly, it's a bit simpleminded, lacking in controversy and focusing on "the mighty march of science." Still, it's a good read with marvelous illustrations, and even I (who consider myself an expert in the history of science) learned a few things.

I'd recommend this one for a bright youngster (junior high or thereabouts) who is developing an interest in science, or for an adult looking for a simple, easy-to-read overview of the history of science.
