Interesting description of the scientific process
This is a great book for non-scientists who want to know how the scientific thought process works. Moore takes us through the history of biological thought, from the first cavemen to the geneticists of this century. Non-biologists may get bogged down in the last few technical chapters on genetics and development, but the sections on the history of biology are a great read for anyone.

Misleading title, subtle content, great insights.
Difficult to rate this book (3 or 4 stars?). It actually took me a while to understand its contents. First, the title is slightly misleading. It has very little concrete content on relationships between men and women, nor with sex or the nature of men and women. It treats masculinity and femininity as general, almost cosmic categories which are involved in every aspect of human existence. It is at times abstract, yet it gives very useful insights into ordinary individual and social life and its possible spiritual evolution. It takes an effort to adapt to the (very modernised Hindu/Vedic-inspired) approach presented, especially since "the masculine and the feminine" are presented as very different concepts from "men and women". In a way I had difficulty absorbing all the essence of the book. I believe it has different layers of understanding of which I could peal a few. That's good though, because it provided great insights into some areas of life and it helped me identifying the various inner and outer forces that struggle in me/us. Thank you Mr Moore...

A nice sampling
This cassette presents a excellent variety of thought on the mysterious concept of soul mates. Deepak Chopra, Thomas Moore, Barbara De Angelis, John Gray and Erica Jong all contribute penetrating insights into love, the nature of relationships and how soul mates are manifest into our lives. These top contemporary thinkers provide deep thought provoking ideas into this often mystical area. I find myself discovering something new and moving each time I listen to this tape. A good one to further your spiritual growth.

Too much of nothing
This is the guide for the Aberrant player to all the world. Most of the information is just there to fill pages. The book is divided on two sections, the first is some locations for the adventure, there are a lot of scenarios around the world with the famous Novas who live there. The second section is much better because it puts the wild sci-fi gamer imagination to the ground setting a halt to all assumptions about scientific advances, the world has changed in ten years but there are limits. Specially useful the section about super science or "if you want to break the rules how much it will cost me" for all the players who feel they are born geniuses. I would really first buy other books of the system before this one.
Welcome to the near future.
Ten years beyond our own time, beings with the powers of Gods walk among mortals. How have they changed the world? It's high time we found out. Aberrant: Year One covers the major cities and technological breakthroughs of 2008. Some cities have changed little; others, such as Addis Ababa, are Nova-created. Those people who are expecting rayguns and hoverboots are out to be disappointed. On the other hand, Aberrant: Year One covers more plausible technology, Nova-inspired concepts, and key players of many cities. The story- and straight information- sections make for a variety of methods of learning the ropes of a world not quite our own.

A Collective information on Basic Medical Physics
Eventhough it is not the first Medical Physics book in this type, this book occupying large extent of interconnected physics topics which are very much related to Medical Imaging and other Related Technologies. So by expectation this book will help all who are in this field and who are interested to start from the basics.

Field Hydrogeology
I did not find much use for this book. Anyone with appreciable experience performing hydrogeologic investigations will have little use for this text which presents a common-sense approach to planning, documenting and reporting hydrogeologic investigations.

Great Read, But Not Very Accurate
This is a great book, if you are interested in self-enlightenment -- if you are searching to find out what life is all about and are interested in exploring the various traditions (in this case, the Islamic tradition), but it does not give one a very good idea of what Islam is all about. Of all the faiths of the world, Al-Islam is among the most dogmatic and narrow-minded in character. The text that Corlett uses exclusively in his interpretation of the Islamic tradition is the "Conference of the Birds", a Sufi text that most Mohammedans are unaware of. This is in keeping with the author's approach of using the more mystical interpretations of each and every major religion (this book is the last in a series of six such books), but also puts one at a distance form the faith and practice of most Moslems, and completely ignores nearly all of the commonly-held tenets and ignores the Al-Qur'an as well! So, if you pick up this book with the intention of learning anything new about Islam, you will be sorely dissapointed. The author seems to have no interest whatsoever in exploring the religion as it is understood by most of the Mussselmen in the world. many of the things he suggests will be considered heretical by the vast majority of Muslims, and the overall approach seems to be more in keeping with Vedanta. Still, since it is obviously not the author's purpose to explore the cultural fact of Islam, or any other religion, but to get to the gist of existence -- to explore the religions and ideas that casued all religions to come into being in the first place. If these are the questions that interest you, then this is one of the best books to read. Like the author says in the introduction, the book does not attempt to come to a definite conclusion or to be dogmatic or final in any way. It is just a guide of self-exploration that may allow one to get something of the wisdom from various of the world's major faiths, in this case, Islam. The words and style that the author's use gets a bit old if you read all of the books in the series . . . it can get a bit repetitive after a while and there seems to me more verbiage than is necessary . . . large parts of the book don't really say much. If you want a good idea of what Islam, as it is commonly practiced is all about, however, look elsewhere.
Colloquial Thai (Colloquial Series)

Thai language book and 2 tapes
The Moore and Rodchue COLLOQUIAL THAI and the accompanying 2 cassette tapes from Routledge are not all they are cracked up to be. Main gripe...one can not use the tapes without having the book in hand at the same time...so no use of tapes in the automobile. Also, neither the tapes nor the book are clear about where in the book the tape is referencing and vice versa. Also, no repetition on the tapes and u know how difficult it is to rewind a tape an inch to repeat a word or phrase. If a person learns Thai from this book/tape set, they really should go into the language business because the set presents very difficult usage challenges and is not educationally sound...that comes from a 30 year educator...me. Get a computer CD ROM set instead or get a native Thai to speak to your own cassette this way...1.Thai word three times, 2.English word twice, and again the same Thai word three times...then go to the next word. Sad product as it stands...
Colloquial Thai?
Overall, I thought the book was a good text for someone just attempting to learn Thai. What becomes evident later is that it in itself is insufficient to provide a complete guide. There are numerous spelling/grammatical errors that one can find as you progress through the course. In several instances when checking answers to the exercises provided, you'll find the answers do not completely match the question. What I discovered after a period of time is that this book will give you a good reference but you need an additional text or two that combines good transliteration with a cross referenced dictionary. I found that using this book with Mike Simpson's "The English Thai Dictionary" provided me with a better understanding. I think the fault for the errors is with the author/publisher but the greatest disadvantage to the up and coming learner is that there is no standard by which Thai is taught. Every book/author takes a different approach to the romanization of the language and the Thai scripting. Still, it is a good reference book that will give you the fundamental basics and start you on the way.
Buying the book with the CD is essential
I recently joined a company that has allowed me the luxury to travel and work in Thailand from time to time. I have observed that there are several errors throughout the book, but generally it is very well written by its British and Thai authors. The book has an easy layout, and each chapter builds upon the next. I would strongly advise that the CD, (or the cassette), is purchased with the book, because it's impossible to duplicate the tones of Thai language from the text alone. As an ex-schoolteacher I appreciated what the authors were trying to acheive with this language course; learning the language in a systematic 'learning-by-doing' method. However, it's definitely not the type of book to carry around with you as a tourist in Thailand, so I would suggest the excellent Lonely Planet's Thai phrasebook for that.
