Pure delight!
This tape, based on the lovely book of the same title, is a wonderful way to introduce children to the world of music. The original compositions are beautiful, and the naration, provided by Patrick Macnee (Steed from "The Avengers" TV series) is perfection-full of warmth and love and whimsy, as if he's talking directly to his own grandchildren sitting on his lap. Our daughter loves this tape, and my wife and I never tire of listening to it either.

One of the most insightful guides to Nietzsche's symbolism
This is one of the most valuble guides to the study of Nietzsche's philosophy. Symbolism was at the heart of Nietzsche's project, and Jung is the master of symbolic interpretation. Anyone who is attempting to fully grasp Nietzsche's Zarathustra must consult this text. This edition includes an exceptional index, useful in a work of this size and scope.

Synchronize this!
This book is incredible.

It's presented in the format of the original lectures that it was based on (Sometimes that means she repeats important points for the audience's memory, but it never hurts, and its the only stylistic oddity).

Content-wise it is mind-blowing. I like Marie Louise Von Franz so much because she takes all these obtuse ideas that Jung had, and gets them to make so much sense and have such a real life and personality and weight to them, which is often hard to get by just reading the original material straight from the horses mouth (Jung being the horse, in this case).

This is a great book about synchronicity. It spends a whole lot of time talking about integers and chance and stuff like that.

Excellent technical introduction
This publication will get you started in photomicrography and give you a good foundation to reference when you are selecting films for your micrographs. It may be a little intense for the casual hobbiest but still contains many illustrations and good information on setting up a microscope to take pictures.

Something I've Waited For
This is the sort of book I have long sought in order to advance my understanding of haiku as the Japanese read and enjoy them. For example, we begin with a dispute over a particular poem. The poet mentions that his feelings were upbeat and positive on an autumn evening. His critic demanded that the poem be withdrawn and redone because the poetic meaning of 'autumn evening' was 'forlornness.' If the poet didn't say he felt forlorn on an autumn evening, then he was betraying the poetic art, according to the critic. The author withdrew the poem. The critique also mentions the other kigo which were meant to indicate that the poet felt forlorn.

Kawamoto takes off from this anecdote for a general discussion of the emotional effects meant by the various kigo. That's something I've wanted to know for a long time.

A later chapter is on poetic meter, or "mora." This brings to mind the art of Seishi Yamaguchi, much praised for his rhythm. The 'mora' of the Japanese language are larger than the onji/jion traditionally used to describe the haiku-- the lines 5, 7 and 5 so often given as defining haiku. Mora are described metrical speech units covering whole 5 or 7 onji segments. Their purpose is to make each segment identical in how long it takes to say them.

This book is not for the beginning student of haiku. The target audience is the advanced student working on his own or as part of a college class in Japanese poetry. Such students are strongly encouraged to add this book to their collection.

A Jungian Theological Psychoanalytical must-have!!
This is an excellent work of both psychology and religion, hence the name. There have been other books by Jung that have narrower subjects or more challenging views but this one, takes my Jungian cake. It is so general but yet is exactly what one needs to study or just explore the extremely difficult topic of Psych and Religion. A winner in my book.

Very, very good
He is very good at explaining phenomenon without giving in to complete belief, the subject matter is very interesting as are the examples and his ideas insightful. I think they key is that he leaves it to the reader to decide for themselves what the truth is without pushing them in one particular direction or another.

Jung on Christianity
The psychology of Carl Jung (1875-1961) is the system of psychology most receptive to the beneficial influence of religion in a person's life. In this selection of writings, mostly from Volume 11 of the Collected Works, Jung focuses on the strengths and limitations of western religion. For Jung, western religion is the organic unity of Church Christianity and its "shadows": Gnosticism and alchemy. Two thirds of the book consist of two long essays, "A Psychological Approach to the Dogma of the Trinity" (1942) and "Transformation Symbolism in the Mass" (1942). In these essays, as well as the shorter ones, Jung walks a fine line. His analysis could scandalize a traditional (and otherwise unimaginative) Christian believer; at the same time, Jung's profound respect for the depth and wisdom of Christianity stands in stark contrast to the flippant disregard some elements of the New Age movement pay it. For Jung, Christianity (with its shadows) is an organic system that contains, though sometimes in obscure ways, everything needed for psychology growth and individuation. For anyone who was raised Christian but who now finds Christianity unaccountably unsatisfactory, this book could catalyze renewed spiritual explorations in any one of number of directions.

Jacobi on Jung
I have used a number of introductions to the ideas of Carl Jung in my Literature and Psychology courses over the years, and Jacobi's book is the best. My students find its presentation of Jung's ideas clear and thorough.
