Freshman Quarterback (Chip Hilton) scores big in the 90's!
Chip Hilton scores big in Freshman Quarterback. Some of the problems he faces are as relevent today as they were in the original writings. The updates are great and still don't detract from the quality and message Clair Bee originally intended. I wish I could be on Chip's team, just like I wanted to when I first read the series in the early 60's! Great Book, Great Series! Thanks for bringing them back!

A History of the Texas Railroads
Published in Hardcover by Ayer Co Pub (1981)
Author: St. Clair Griffin Reed
Amazon base price: $106.86
Average review score:

Comphrehensive, well written!
The author opens his study by examining the primitive transport conditions that existed before the admission of Texas to statehood in 1846, and then proceeds to discuss the construction and rationalization of the railway system. There are chapters devoted to every major aspect of railroads in operation in Texas: urban, interurban and industrial lines, railroad land grants, the bureaucratization of railroads, the formation of pools designed to restrict competition, and the development of government regulatory boards such as the Texas Railroad Commission and the Interstate Commerce Commission. Reed's pioneering work is based on a thorough examination of government and corporate reports, manuscripts, newspapers, and interviews with leading railroad men. It is indispensable for anyone interested in understanding the history of Texas railroading. It includes tables on railway mileage, charters, and commodities shipped by rail.

From the Author's Daughter
Dear Mother, Hurrah! The book is so exciting and so well done. It is a fascinating look into the private life of a hero, a man of great character, who because of the nature of his life's work, had the time to search deeply within on every decision that affected his life, professional and personal. It is rare that you are privileged to share this intimate process on the written page. He loved you very much, and was blessed to have you in his life, as are we. Thank you for writing it. I wish you great success with the book and hope that many others will cherish it as I do.

Life Happens is a great book
I was so impressed with this book! it gave practical day to day ways to help your teenager find out who he/she is in Christ by anwsering three of lifes biggest questions. Who I'm I, Where did I come from, and how I'm I going to get there. This is a most for all parents with teenagers. Barry wrote a second book for teenagers called Life Happens: get ready. I recommand it to every teenager as well!

Line with feeling
I teaching drawing at a city college and was introduced to this book from one of my students. It's a moving illustration of what can be done with the simplicity of line, how it can create an emotional understanding as well as record what stands before you. Whether dealing with the thundering animal skeletons in the natural history museum or giving the impression of a timeless Paris street corner, Bresson's line flies about to give you the moment and movement he sensed. A must for those interested in the poetry of drawing.
