Ride the Wind
I recently started to read this book after many years and am amazed at how wonderfully descriptive the writer is. She makes one see so clearly what she is writing that you feel like you are there with the characters. She makes you see that no matter what race or color, we are all the same. We feel love, hate, happiness, sadness and all other emotions of the human spirit. She lets us see what everyday Indian life was like. I have some favorite books in my library that I read over and over and I am sure I'll read this one again.

A touching and Unable to put down book
This story of Cynthia Ann Parker, is an imposible book to put down. I read it 3 times in one month! I'm reading it again for the fourth time and I am enjoying it just as much as I did the 1,2,and 3 time I read it. Once you start reading it you fall so deep into the book that you feel like you are Cynthia Ann,and are looking into Wanderer's deep black eyes. You will laugh, and be scared, and weep with Cynthia Ann as Lucia St. Clair Robson, tells us the dramatic life of Cynthia Ann. You can picture what each character looks like and you can feel what each feels like. I'm going to read this book probily more than one thousand times more.

Touched My Soul
I found this book years ago and fell in love with it! I have since read it hundreds of times and am currently reading it again This is a book you can get lost in. It takes you into how her world might have been and settles her and her family into your heart forever. This is a MUST read book that you will want to reread over and over and over again

A story you will not soon forget!
Antoinette Clair offers a look into the brutality of political change and an insightful glimpse into life as many lived it. In "The Blows of Fate" (2003), her characters are vivid and unforgettable; her story is one you will not soon forget. It is a stirring tale of love, raw beauty, talents and the reality of our dependence on government. Brava!

Live through this story!
A beautiful love story! You are eager to reach the end and reading it you don't notice how fast the time passes. Sufferings, deep feelings, ambitions, delusions, hatred take place during the life of the characters, gaining and enchanting the reader. I wanted it to continue longer. It was a pleasure reading this book!

Great story!
The Blows of Fate is a truly touching story. It takes the reader away to a time so remote from our reality that yet seems so real, described by Antoinette Clair. I lived through each character's destiny and did not want to put the book down. The book is powerful and I loved the end!

College Level Instruction Without the College Textbook Price
There are two things about this book I think make it a great book for any watercolorist's library. One is the sheer variety of paintings shown and the other is the numerous 'assignments' at the end of each chapter.

As another reviewer stated this book does not show you only one or a few artist's techniques. Rather it covers a broad range of techniques, art styles and artists and shows a diverse array of watercolor paintings. Everything from traditional representational paintings to contemporary and experimental works are shown. And all are used to illustrate that chapter's main point that they appear in. Works from famous artists to current living ones are displayed.

Each chapter ends with exercises designed to let you practice principles, techniques or styles the preceding pages discussed. Now some people don't like or need such 'assignments'. But other people, like me, enjoy them as a challenge and as a way to see that they've not only read the chapter but can practice till they've learned it. If you don't care for such things it's easy to skip over them. But I actually found some of these projects fun to do.

I have a sketchbook of watercolor paper that I use strictly for trying out projects from my various watercolor or other painting books. It is separate from my other sketchbooks or paintings and its sole purpose is strictly to practice, even copy, the demo projects and assignments. Even the greatest art masters learned first by copying the masters before them. There is so much to learn from this book. Not only how to paint in watercolor but also some art history as well. Definitely a recommended buy.

One of the Best
This is one of the best books on watercolor I have read and I have read a bunch. Many watercolor books give demonstrations and descriptions of a limited range of techniques used by that particular author. The authors' focus is primarily on showing you how they painted particular sample paintings. You learn, but mostly how to paint the sample paintings and a little about the author's technique but not much else.

Mr. Le Clair provides the kind of instruction I would expect from a college watercolor class. He covers much more than just the basics but, nevertheless, the book could well serve as an introduction to watercolor. If I had to choose one instructional watercolor book this would be it. The second book I would choose is "The Watorcolorist's Essential Notebook" by Gordon MacKenzie, but it needs to be supplemented with a more basic book.

Insightful
Perhaps the strongest effort I have read to date for instruction on watercolor technique.(David Dewey's book is also outstanding!) This book is for the advanced watercolorist, as well as the intermediate student. It offers art history, studies in color, tips on still life, specialty items such as how to flatten a buckled paper, and more! Although I have been a watercolorist for many years, Le Clair has brought new insight into working with and teaching the medium.

Quality reproductions and clear prose - highly recommended
"Color in Contemporary Painting: Integrating Practice and Theory", while not a traditional art technique book, is still an invaluable reference for practicing artists as well as those interested in contemporary art. Full of high quality reproductions from a wide variety of artists, one can simply skim the book as a source of ideas and things to try without even reading the text. However, the text is very clear, helpful, and readable as it describes the artists' styles, approaches, and use of color. There is no mumbo-jumbo and even the most "art critical" discussions of the artworks are in plain English.

The book is organized into 11 sections, the first few of which are introductory and include a perfunctory and adequate description of color theory. LeClair then proceeds through Albers & optical art, color & structure, figure/ground & space, color harmony, gesture, light, expressionism, and what the author calls "advanced color games." Since the book was written in 1991, a few of the discussions about what is "hot" in the contemporary art scene may be out of date as of 2003, yet the book is still relevant and most of the artists discussed are still important today. Perhaps the only thing missing is that there is only an occasional mention of actual pigments used by the painters. A thorough 2-page index makes looking up aritsts, subjects, or painting titles easy. Highly recommended.

Buying a second copy
I lent my copy to my master class art teacher 5 months ago. She keeps begging for more time with it. I'm just going to buy a second copy, and let her keep the first. Do you need to know any more?

A Wonderful Teaching Resource
This outstanding book is a must for painters. Excellent examples illuminate LeClair's text in a way that makes perfect sense for artists. LeClair applies sound color theory to art-making and inspires at the same time. I find it an excellent tool for illustrating color concepts to my university students. It is a comprehensive look at many approaches to the use of color (not a guide, as many books are, to using color in the the same way as their authors). Highly recommended!

Perfect Story
This book is a perfect story. It is a romance, but a true biographical one that avoids the pitfalls of less realistic romances, and sticks to the heart of love--enduring one horrible thing after another (depression, health issues, death, war), and always relying on each other to muddle through. The characters are warm, strong, and very human. The respect with which the couple treats each other is an inspiration and gentle lesson to each of us. Since this book is hard to find I found two copies . . . so I would be willing to lend one.

Absolute GEM!!! American Classic!!! 20 Stars!!
Can't rate it high enough!! 5 stars is way to low! A memoir desguised as a novel. It's not until you're well into this Classic that you realize he's telling the story about how his parents met and fell in love. You think you've had it rough, read this one! First read it 15-20 years ago and lost track of my copy. Been looking for it. Ordering a new one right now! Timeless classic of two people head-over-heels in love surviving through the depression. This one'll get ya right where ya live!! If you see it in a used book store(it's out of print) pick it up, run to the check-out, race home and cancel your plans for the rest of the day! Thank God for Amazon.com that I've found it again. If I could find a woman like Orlean, I'd marry her in a minute. Why Clair Huffaker isn't a more well known author, I have no idea. He is a natural. I'd like to meet him.

Heartwarming,unforgetable treasure.
I read this book for the first time when I was a junior in highschool back in 1978. I absolutely adored the story and read it more than once. Unfortunately I lent it to a friend and never saw it again until now.

Chip still is a winner
Things don't change much in 50 years. This book still works with kids and adults. I like the new updates-just enough to make it contemporary. It would be a great gift for Little League friends and families.

Another Great Chip Hilton Story!
Strike Three! offers great baseball action but, more importantly, it's a story about friendship, courage, and learning to extend our hands to others. Chip bridges the gap between the South and the West sides of Valley Falls with courage, faith, and friendship.

Great Book! Read the real ones!
Strike Three was not published in 1990--but nearly 50 years ago.

Great story of values and friendships.

Buy the real Chip Hilton books.

Chip does it again
Chip is the bravest, most talented kid ever.He goes to a steel plant in a town hes never been to. He plays on a baseball team where everone is older than him, all when he finds his first crush. Bee really put Chip to the test in this one, ... It all starts when the Rock sends Chip to this summer league baseball team. The owner of the team and the company Chip works and plays for is Rockwells friend Mr.Armstrong. Chip gets a crush on Armstrongs daughter Peggy. ... But in baseball hes having trouble. ... They always say stuff to him about it, so one day he shows his stuff ...

Chip has a love interest
Peggy Armstrong is about as close as Chip gets to being interested in girls in these early Chip Hilton books, but she is a match for him. Too bad he has to go back to Valley Falls at the end of the book. He could have been manager, star and gotten the girl, too. Good reading for all kids--girls included.

ONLY THE BEST ON THE MARKET
I raised my daughter by this book, and then gave it away to a young father who has raised his son on it. I am an Infant/Toddler teacher and am familiar with very very many many books for parents ... and as far as I am concerned this is only the best book of its kind on the market for fathers.

Excellent book for first time or even experienced fathers
This book is great! It covers the kids, the wives, the boys, and the girls. It has great ideas, and answers all those Dad questions that you never want to ask your wife.

Great ideas!
I had a copy of The Mother's Almanac when my kids were little (twenty years ago!) and used it frequently. I purchased several copies of The Father's Almanac during the 1980s as gifts. I recently bought a copy as a gift for a young man I work with. The ideas are still great! My only suggestion would be that the next time they revise the book - they revise the photos!

Phenomenal in that what it teaches works and works fast
I saw this book in a bookstore in Atlanta, Ga over 17 years ago in it's first edition. While I had not been impressed with other "How to 'do' psychic stuff" books, and was also under considerable parental pressure not to acquire more (being a young and "impressionable" teen at the time), a cursory read of the text showed what appeared to be quite simple instructions and a fascinating breadth of supposed psychic abilities covered. So, impressed, I snuck up to the counter when my Mom wasnt looking and bought it.

As other reviewers have noted, the most amazing fact about this book is that you start seeing results from the moment you put its techniques into practice. You will have some degree of success with everything mentioned in the book, from seeing auras to table tipping. There will be points during practice of the excercises when you make a breakthrough, and your hair will literally stand on end.

As one of the most easily accessible texts on psychic abilities I have ever encountered, it is indeed a shame that this text has gone out of print. Having said this, a more widespread reading of the text and practice of the excercises would no doubt make many of the "extraordinary" abilities listed in the book become downright commonplace. The author, and the book, are really that good!

Best book of its type
I got this book years ago and lost it. I was lucky enough to find it at a local library book sale. I am a Traditional Reiki master and a member of the Rosicrucian Order (AMORC) I can tell you that the secrets in this book are real. They do work. They have changed my life. ALL of them are provable experiments that work in amazing ways. All of the other things I have learned in the "secret organizations" verify and back up his writings. I would just like to know what Mr St. Clair is doing in this day and age.

Forget Expensive Courses and Fancy Certificates--Buy This!
I purchased a paperback copy of this book in 1990, and I have owned it & Loaned it, ever-since. I just wrote a review for a Sylvia Browne book, mentioning how Valuable David St. Clair's book truly is ! However....now, I see it is "out of print." How very Sad.

I learned to Astral Travel, by reading this book, before joining an organization with very expensive books and tests and fancy certificates..... The only thing about the teachings of the org. that was more explanatory of "Astral Travel," was the fact that it alos taught the Mechanics of it all (Physics). However, you can get that information, easily, from Deepak Chopra's "Journey to The Boundless" and his other works. So, SAVE Yourself some Money and buy David St. Clair's Lessons in Easy ESP and some of Deepak's Tape-sets.

You will save Tons of money and have Wonderful Results. Organizations will try to inform you that you must do all this in a very complicated manner, with a lot of superfluous rigamarole....but, let's face Reality : You do this, Every Night, when you go to sleep! & Org.s want your hard-earned Cash.

If you own this book, you will value it, treasure it & loan it to all your friends in the field of interest. In fact, my copy is on-loan, right now!

I just cannot comprehend WHY this book is "out of print!!!" As many others have said, THIS book WORKS !
