Way more interesting than the course
This book helped me pass my exam! The course is so boring and very dull, but this book uses everyday situations to explain the concepts. Marc Lieberman is a professor at my school and I wish I had him as a professor because all of the students who did have him said that his class is awesome. So if his class is awesome, his book has got to be awesome...right?

This book uses alot graphics and colors, which makes it more fun to read. This the exactly how I would want to be taught economics. There is also a little humor in the book too, which makes it even more fun. So for those students who are taking economics or are going economics, this book helps ALOT. It covers the basics very well.

Make sure you buy the most updated edition though. This book was just updated last year, so beware of those 1st edition books because they're old.

Superb textbook
Easy and fun to use. Excellent blend of academia and real-life examples. Charts, graphs, and illustrations were colorful and easy to understand. Also, authors Hall and Liberman provide readers access to their macroecon website for additional study. I used this text at the postgraduate level - great for undergrads, too.

magnificent Mitscher
My review would be slightly biased. Adm. Mitscher was the uncle of my Grandmother. The Book, "The Magnificent Mitscher" is spellbinding, and extremely well written. I enjoy reading it completely... to the point that I am going to have to buy another copy as mine is going to wear out soon. My copy is copyrighted in 1954, by Theodore Taylor. It cost my Grandfather $4.50 to get, and was given to my father as a gift.

A fantastic book for anyone interested in WWII and the Pacific Task force 58/38.

An excellent, engaging tale of the Navy's first true aviator
While wary of Naval biographies, I plucked this biography of Mitcher off the Wardroom library shelf for the sheer appeal of the weathered old admiral on the cover; and in so doing proved once again that although we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, a cover sometimes leads one to a very good book indeed. Taylor is commendable not only for his portrayal of Mitcher as an integral player in Naval aviation, but as an individual in his own right. I was captivated not only by tales of his prowess in the tight spots of Naval aviation in the major conflicts of his era, but by the portrayal of his private misgivings and apprehensions. This, coupled with the inclusion of other key players of the times -- Nimitz, Halsey, McCain, and others -- made for an excellent primer on the beginnings of Naval aviation. I highly recommend this work to anyone looking for a few evenings of good reading or an introduction to the intracacies and excitement of Naval aviation.

A book about courage.
This is a book about having the courage to choose a life instead of letting whatever comes along make the choice instead. It made me want to take a closer look at what I'm doing to see if I am making real and earnest progress toward what I most want to achieve in life. This book helped me to realize that what I want takes time and gives some helpful suggestions on where to find missing hours. The book talks about how debilitating it can be to live passively. I really enjoyed this quote from the first chapter, "The person who passively sits back, who waits and sees, will never feel too terrific about life because there will never be much electricity, satisfaction, or fulfillment in it. Nothing works out when nothing is going on." So, if you occasionally feel that you could be sitting in a huge vat of peanut butter unable to get what you want, this could be the perfect book for you.

very inspiring. A must for all mankind. A bible to live by
I recently read this book and am buying it for my daughter as she sets off for college this fall. It is by far a book I will always treasure. It brings such contentment when reading. Such grace, as all Alexandra Stoddard books do. It truly is a book everyone should read. It is very thought provoking and really has some beautiful quotations throughout it.

Beautiful !
« I've just end up reading The Bopping Elf and now i'm too impressed to give any comments or even to write anything understandable..I worship everything beautiful, and i worship this book now. I spent wonderful time, reading it under the sound of early Marc's albums, going from smiles to tears and from joy to sorrow...» - Sammy, Russia (Till Dawn)

A real labor of love...
«I was so moved... What a tragic life, and what a huge price he paid for his art. I think the story is told with much feeling and empathy, and it really draws a person in. At first I wondered why the story would be told from Poon's point of view, but now I see it's probably the most personal spin you could have possibly put on it. It allows you to access Marc Bolan's dual lives in a way no conventional story-teller really could. It makes perfect sense. I can tell that this is a real labor of love - it certainly shows.» - Barbara Krauss, WYSU-FM, USA

Marc Chagall: Tapestries/Tapisserien/Tapisseries
Published in Paperback by TASCHEN America Llc (1999)
Author: Jacob Baal-Teshuva
Amazon base price: $9.99
Average review score:

I totally agree
Gerald is absolutely right: this book is wonderful. TASCHEN is probably one of the greatest art editors around and always comes up with great ideas, such as this book who shows-- let's say-- a "hidden" side of Chagall's great talent. There are in fact few people who know that Chagall also mastered the art of tapestry, and this book allows you yo discover the art of tapestry to perfection. Everything in that book is so perfect: the format, the price, the quality of impression, the interesting information... It makes a cute little gift. Once again, excellent work for TASCHEN! I hope that many Chagall fans will discover this great book.

Marc Chagall: Tapestries
What a delight to discover an aspect of Chagall's iconology that has only rarely been spotlighted as it is here. Jacob Ball-Teshuva's text is insightful snd very readable (which not every art book can say) and I'm pleased that due attention and credit is shown toward tapestry-weaver Yvette Couquil-Prince. A word about the illustrations. So often one sees how color plates can "suffer in the translation". These, however, are dazzling. This book is superlative. Great things can indeed come in small packages. I recommend this title to anyone interested in the art of Marc Chagall and/or the art and craft of tapestry.

A must buy for your investment library
This is a fascinating read...the entire Bloomberg series is fantastic but this book and Bloomberg's book on IPOs are great. The book points out valuable readings and web sites to utilize. I would say this book ranks up with the best.

Microcap Stocks Have Been Profitable For This Investor
I have always been interested in low-priced stocks. As a preteen, I used to look at the stock tables in the American Stock Exchange, where I found many low priced stocks, and pretended that I was buying and selling. As I got older I have remained loyal to buying low priced stocks, but only after much investigation. "Mastering Microcaps" teaches strategies that I have used, and many that I plan to use. Another very helpful book that compliments this title that has been valuable is MAKING DOLLARS WITH PENNIES: HOW THE SMALL INVESTOR CAN BEAT THE WIZARDS ON WALL STREET by R. Max Bowser. Both books contain strategies for stock selection, when to buy and when to sell. I recommend "Mastering Microcaps" to everyone who has a love for small companies with great futures.

Imagine what we'll know tomorrow
This is of course based on the premise that we know animals are not sentient, don't have emotions, and that there is no such thing as animal culture. Stick-a-pin. This is no different than our most recent scientific truth. We knew for a fact that once we read the Human Genome and identified its 100,000 to 140,000 genes we would be able to confirm our unique complexity. Wait a minute. We did that already, right? And how many genes do we have? Try between 30,000 to 35,000. Now ponder this: the functions for over a half of our discovered genes remains unknown. As I said, imagine what we'll "know" tomorrow. I believe that shortly we will confirm that animals have a vibrant and adaptable culture, a rich emotional life, and consciously communicate among themselves and are self-aware. I give it 25 years. Certainly within a generation there will be a new paradigm that most naturalists will be operating with, and science such as Bekoff's won't be seen as "anecdotal", "folk-tales", "pop-culture", or radical anthropomorphism.

Cognitive ethology (the study of animal intelligence) is a young science and like so many newer studies it has its fair share of critics. Interestingly much of the criticism comes from within other current fields of study (sociobiology and evolutionary psychology for example). Bekoff tackles these issues head on and if you have read a little in this field you'll know that this means engaging some of our brightest thinkers - Daniel C Dennett, E.O Wilson, Marc Hauser, Noam Chomsky. A lot of the debate about animal intelligence centers on language and communication. Primatologists such as Jane Goodall and Franz de Waal, like Bekoff, tend to argue that human capacity for language is an inappropriate criteria for determining animal intelligence.

This is an overly simplified summary of Bekoff's field of study and his explanations are much clearer. The book however is much more than a scientific primer on cognitive ethology. No longer does naming animals, loving them, and anthropomorphizing detract from the scientific study of their behavior. Bekoff shows that by MINDING ANIMALS scientists are able to get fascinating insights into behavior. Stories here about dreaming rats, thinking bees, and happy elephants, far from being anecdotal, are now shedding new light onto behavior such as grooming, dominance, mating, and feeding.

It was less than twenty years ago that it was discovered that elephants communicated by ultrasound and only recently did we find out that African Grey parrots understand concepts such as size, color, shape, and can compare and contrast items. Enjoy this fascinating read and then just imagine...

Appreciating Animals Minds
Marc Bekoff's Minding Animals offers us a unique look into the wonderful and diverse minds of animals. All too often we glaze over true animal emotions and feelings because society has wanted us to believe animals are a lesser developed species than humans. That animals are not able to demonstrate traits thought only to be "human." However, Bekoff's book and his previous publications clearly demonstrate how terribly wrong and simple this is. Animals posses deep and unique minds capable of endless emotions, thoughts and actions. Simply because humans are not capable of understanding the animal mind in terms that can be communicated does not mean the animal mind does not exist. A serious flaw (one of many) in human nature is to discount unknown possibilities. It is unimaginable to us today that the great astronomer Galileo was persecuted for saying the Earth rotated around the Sun or that Christopher Columbus said the world was round. Even the youngest children know these facts today. Nobody knew how closely related we were to the chimpanzee until a young British woman named Jane Goodall went to Africa only 40 years ago and discovered the distinct behaviors of chimpanzees, such as tool use, communication and social bonding to mention just a few.

Readers of Minding Animals will come across stories they have also experienced with animals and learn new stories that will help them appreciate all animals even more. Bekoff's book allows us to enjoy and appreciate animals that are not lesser beings, but animals that live their own unique lives and add something special to our own lives and the plant.
