Excellent and important book
Anytime you name something you begin to grasp it with more power. The authors have given us the gift of naming a pernicious process called "Mobbing." They define Mobbing as 'group bullying.' Sometimes obvious and sometimes subtly masked by the bullies power it consistently has a negative impact on everyone adjacent. Reading this book brought back numerous personal memories of the intimidating, humiliating, isolating sorts of tactics that mobbing can take in the workplace. The more I thought about it the more I realized that mobbing is much more common than I had first thought. This is a crucial read for those who have been "mobbed" in the workplace, and also vital for employers to read to create a workplace that is safe from the tragedies of mobbing. The book not only outlines the process of mobbing it goes many steps further to give people ways to respond and heal. This is an excellent ground-breaking book. Highly recommended.

A very brave look at the dark side of the work world....
This book describes with amazing accuracy a very dark and ugly side of the work world. Having been a victim of serious emotional abuse in the workplace, this book's account of what other's have experienced helped me to see that my situation was not unique at all. What is astounding to me is that we do not have laws that protect employees from this vile form of emotional abuse that does eventually have serious effects on a worker's health and ability to earn a living. "Mobbing" is an important work and should be distributed to every employee at every American company along with their own company handbook. The behaviors described in this book should be a crime punishable by law. Any company that actively engages in these practices or passively allows them to happen ought to be boycotted and deserves to go belly up.

Mobbing: Emotional Abuse in the American Workplace
Amazingly insightful Mobbing: Emotional Abuse in the American Workplace is an important and ground-breaking piece of work here in the United States. It seeks to assimilate information from around the world about workplace mobbing and bullying and to apply that information to America's workforce. This book is the only one of it's kind in the United States and is extremely important to both the employers and the employees of this country. This book is a "must read" and should be read by everyone in the American workforce.

What the Witch Left
My sister and I both read this book as children and realized as adults that it stood out as favorites for both of us. How could it be out of print when it is obviously a stand out in so many girl's childhoods? I remember it as a magical book and it had me wishing that I would find an adventure like it lurking in some dusty corner of my house.

Wonderfuly Magical
This is a story about two girls who find some magical things in an old chest. Once they start to use them, they realize that the itmes are magic. I read this book when I was about 10 years old. I loved it tremendously. I must have gone to the library after school at least once a week just to read bits of it before going home. I purchased a used copy recently and recommend it for any child or adult who wants to feel like their 10 again. A wonderful magical journey.

Some of my fondest Childhood Memories
When I think back to age 7-9, Ruth Chew is what I think of first. This book certainly left an impression. The gloves, the boots, the magical box, I can only imagine that the kids who read Harry Potter must feel the same way I did about this book.

Machu Picchu - A Civil Engineering Marvel
Abandoned for centuries and overgrown by dense subtropical forest, this awesome city in the sky has been the subject of speculation and conjecture since Hiram Bingham first disclosed it in 1911. Now, for the first time, the wonders of Machu Picchus' construction and water supply are revealed in a new book by Kenneth R. Wright and Alfredo Valencia Zegarra. Anyone who has read Bingham's Lost City of the Incas, or who has visited this ancient city of the Incas or who yearns to journey there, should read this new and searching volume that delves into and solves many of the mysteries of Machu Picchu. Why was it built, how the site was selected, and what were the critical criterial criteria that were met to make the ridge top site suitable for an alternate home for the Inca Pachacuti? Machu Picchu served as a residence, a fortress and a holy place. The developement of a water supply, the construction of terraces for agriculture and the remarkable and enduring granite structures were well concealed by its unique location. Near vertical cliffs, the roaring Urubamba river all contributed to the concealment of Machu Picchu from the Spanish invaders How an ancient people, without the written word, without instruments and steel tools so capably built and prospered there for more than a century is now revealed in this landmark book that will increase both the awe and respect of the reader for the Inca people.

A Landmark Study!
Machu Picchu, A Civil Engineering Marvel is an extraordinary accomplishment. It is not merely a travel book or ruins guide. It is the result of at least five years of study, exploration and detailed mapping by a competent civil engineer and actually is a tremendous contribution to serious archaeology on the history and accomplishments of the Peruvian Inca empire.

Mr. Wright, a water engineering specialist, worked with close cooperation with a government archaeological expert from Peru headquarters. His particular specialized interest was the drinking and waste disposal system for the people who inhabitated the site, which is called a "palace" but is actually much more than that. He also detailed the construction of the agricultural terraces. It is a scholastic textbook of the first rank.

A Primer for Discovering the Wonders of Machu Picchu
A major contribution, this book is a treasure of up-to-date archaeological documentation plus analysis and interpretation of the architecture and engineering of the legendary Inca site. As scholar and frequent academic study-tour leader to Machu Picchu, I can attest to the accuracy of the authors' observations presented in a lucid text and complemented by a wealth of excellent black-and-white photographs, detailed site plans and architectural drawings. In an unusual collaborative effort, American engineer Kenneth R. Wright and Peruvian archaeologist Alfredo Valencia Zegarra join their expertise to describe with painstaking care the multiple challenges that were faced by the Inca builders including geography, site selection, engineering infrastructure, city planning, water system, drainage, agriculture, stonework, and construction methods. In addition, Gordon McEwan contributes an essential chapter on the cultural backgrounf of the Inca civilization; and Ruth M. Wright's "Walking Tour" chapter provides a concise, clear guide for exploring the main site as well as other attractions nearby. Destined to become a classic and model study for other Inca sites, this is an invaluable resource for experts in the field and general public alike.

HTML made simple
I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn HTML... especially beginners. It's completely visual (GREAT for a visual learner like myself)... and in COLOR! Each description is well organized, and it's a very simple book to navigate around. They show the actual computer screen to explain what you will be doing. It makes it so easy! It covers everything from basic HTML tags, changing the appearance of your website and publishing a webpage. I would have loved to have this book a few years ago when I first started working with HTML! If you want to get into programming but have no experience, try HTML -- you might like it! :) This was the first book I bought in this "Teach Yourself Visually" series, but after reading and using this book all the time, I plan on buying one for ALL the different computer related topics. This book definitely deserves an A+.

Oh so easy to understand!
This was an incredibly easy book to understand. Minimal words, lots of colorful pictures and fun graphics which show you (instead of describing to you) how to perform a function. I had another HTML book that I just got bored with after about 50 pages. This book was so engaging that I pretty much finished the book in a day and am able to start coding in HTML. This is a very good "how-to" book in the technical aspect of HTML. The only down side is that it promotes poor web page design (but this book is not about learning design so I'm still giving it 5 stars). For the design aspect of web pages, I would recommend picking up a copy of Robin William's "Design for Non-Designers" or "Web Design for Non-Designers."

A must for the beginner!

Visually Exciting
This invaluable instruction manual breaks down web page design to its simplest form, and teaches how to harness the power and versatility of HTML to generate attractive looking web pages. The impression of having a private 'tutor' guiding you each step of the way is created through the step-by-step visual approach, seeing that you can emulate the exact procedures outlined without any apprehension, and then view the final result in a browser to measure your progress.

Each procedure is conveyed in a logical sequence beginning with the basic concepts and proceeding to more advanced themes, so that learning HTML becomes effortless. This method of visually imparting knowledge eliminates the problem of having to leaf through several pages to find the screen shot that relates to the instructions, along with the frustration of having to re-read the same paragraph many times in order to grasp the main point.

There is a detachable page at the beginning of the book containing a hexadecimal value colour chart with sample colours that can be applied to enhance the appearance of a page, and for easy reference, a comprehensive summary of all the HTML tags used in the course and their functions are given at the end of the book. In addition to the basic HTML tags, this impressive book also covers such areas as resizing images, creating tables, frames, adding sound and video, image maps, java applets and many more features that will allow you to easily create and publish professional looking web pages.

This pictorial, self-teaching 'tutor' is just what any beginner or advanced student needs to benefit from the exciting domain of web page design.

READ THIS BOOK!
I didn't know what to expect when a friend gave me this book but I was completely blown away by Ruth Knafo Setton's beautiful, pasionate writing. THE ROAD TO FEZ tells the story of a forbidden love affair between Gaby and Brit, two desperate, lost souls who need each other more than they realize. What the reader comes to understand, along with the lovers, is that love is a miracle that cannot be judged or limited. Gaby and Brit echo other lovers in the novel, all separated by society's rules. But these two take a chance and find a love they never dreamed of. I couldn't put this book down, and ever since I finished it, I've been dreaming of Gaby and Brit!
I was shocked to learn that this is Ruth Knafo Setton's first novel. She writes with so much power, confidence and urgency. I've never read a book like this one that is so erotic, tragic, funny and magical. I'll be on the lookout for her next book!
You've got a new fan, Ms. Setton!

The Sirens call you to Fez
If you've never been to Fez, you'll feel like you have after reading Ruth Knafo Setton's 'The Road to Fez'... She creates and successfully sustains an abstract atmosphere of tension and mystique throughout the story, all the while her descriptions of the land and its characters are so vivid and concrete they are almost tangible. The colors and the smells of a land and time so removed from ours, stick with you long after the last page is turned. Very shortly after starting her story, you'll become familiar with a way of life described so intimately, you are startled to remember that Brit, the main character, is actually not wholly of this magical place. Even Brit has to pull back from her daily experience to remember she has options to return to her former life in the US. The land and people are so real and intense that you, as a reader, will become part of it as well. If you hear the Sirens calling you to read this book, listen to them.!

What a fascinating, literary book!
"The Road To Fez" By Ruth Knafo Setton is a riveting tale written in lyrical prose and sensitivity to detail.

The novel tells the story of a young American-Jewish woman, born in Morrocco, who goes back to visit her family, but what she really has in mind is her dashing uncle (her mother's much-younger brother) .

Within the Moroccan compound where the entire clan lives, the reader experiences the sights, smells and sounds of this exotic place, and becomes a witness to both the personal intrigues and the global drama of the Jewish community.

Highly recommended both as a historical account of a minority going through change in a society where it doesn't belong, and as a fictional story of passion and its consequences.

The essential Belgian cookbook in English
This is THE best book in English on Belgian cuisine. People who have visited Belgium, love it's typical dishes: Belgian endives, aspargus, waffles, "Waterzooi", mussels, fries, ... This book - which appeals to beginning and expert cooks - explains you in a simple and playful way how to make these dishes yourself.

WOW -
You don't have to be Belgian to love this cookbook! It's truly awesome! All the recipes I've tried so far are great - and very easy to follow. If they ever come out with a 2nd edition, I hope they include some photographs of the recipes... this is easily the cookbook I use the most!

Everybody really DOES eat well in Belgium
I married into a Belgian family, and I have to say, I was intimidated by my mother-in-law's wonderful cooking. How would I ever measure up? In fifteen years, I've learned quite a few of her recipes, but after reading this book, I finally understand where she's coming from. Ruth Van Waerbeek not only introduces Belgian food and cooking, but an entire way of life. The recipes are great, and the stories and anecdotes are even better. This is one of those cookbooks you can sit and read cover-to-cover, even when you're not looking for a recipe. I'm ordering one for my mother-in-law --she'll love it!

Lubin Hits the Mark
On the brink of layoff, I found this book at the library among the usual collection of books on resume' building, interviewing and job search. Reading the first chapters about downsizing I could see that this book was about my story, starting with the "On The Brink" experience of knowing something drastic is about to happen soon. Turns out the book is about the internal challenges and transitions involved in loosing a job, dealing with "what to do next" and how to make the journy to the next job a rewarding one.

Now I have my own copy from Amazon which I use most every day. It is very helpful.

Great Downsizing Resource
Are You a Corporate Refugee? is an excellelnt resource for people who are being downsized, EAP professionals, and Outplacement experts. This book proves to be a guide for preparing for an imminent layoff and describing steps to take after the layoff. The author, Ruth Luban, does an excellent job in not only presenting a very practical guide, but addressing the full range of emotions attached to such a major life changing event.

Finally some focus on the emotional journey
I think Ruth has made an important contribution to the genre. There are many books on the market that deal with how to find a new job, etc. but this book is the first I've seen that focuses on the emotional journey that comes with this type of life change. I found the practical, straight-forward advice very refreshing. --Katherine E. Simmons, President, NETSHARE, Inc., a prize-winning career-management web site for executives

The faithfulness of Ruth
Francine Rivers continues her excellent Lineage of Grace series with the story of Ruth. She follows the familiar narrative in the Bible as Ruth's husband and father-in-law die and she accompanies her mother-in-law Naomi back to her native Bethlehem. Throughout the book we see Ruth's courage and the faith she had adopted during her marriage to Naomi's son. She never stops believing that God will guide her to a better life and does not give in to the temptation of the false gods which surround her. Rivers has a way of remaining true to the Bible and yet fleshing out the stories so that they remain vivid in the reader's mind.

When faith brings grace...
When I first picked up this book, I began to read it with my safety net of doubt firmly in place. Most of the biblical fiction I've encountered over the years have been full of stiff dialog or narrowly researched story lines that lose the readers interest in it's quest to drive home a moral or spiritual point. This one is different.

Rivers tossed that bad habit of stiff dialog out the window when she wove together this partly fictional account of Ruth, Naomi and Boaz. As one of my favorite stories since I was a little girl, it was so warming to read more about Ruth, and I was delighted that Rivers kept her character true to her original, biblical presentation. She didn't try to remind us that Ruth was a girl like any of the rest of us, by pointing out her flaws or catching her in her weak moments. Instead she portrays her as a strong, faithful, trusting woman whose faith in God matures as she makes her new life with her mother-in-law after her husband dies. Rivers understanding and research of biblical culture and customs more fully explains the impact of Ruth leaving her family to move back to Naomi's home town, this enlightenment brings even more meaning to a story I assumed I already completely grasped.

Rivers also adds a great deal of humor in her character's dialog and actions. She gives the reader a great visua,l which is especially important when we already know the basic outline and outcome of the story.

I fully recommend this book to anyone who has read the story of Ruth and Boaz a hundred times and still finds themselves thinking about the details we might never know the full truth of.

Amazed!!
Francine Rivers has become my favorite author. The story of Ruth has made me long to be an example of a Godly woman ,of this century. I can only struggle to put my feelings into words..when Francine Rivers paints beautiful word pictures in our minds as we read her work. Ruth and her devotion,I want to be like her!! As i look into my young daughters eyes..i am in wonder on how to raise a child to have such passion for God like Ruth. May the story of Ruth make everyone who reads of her, be inspired to continue on in their lifes journey with a new perspective.. Thank you Francine Rivers, for giving us deep soul searching books that challenge us women to go on...

Book of Qualities

Delightful
I received this delightful book as a gift from a dear friend. It is one of the most wonderful gifts I have ever received. Ruth Gendler is clearly a most perceptive woman, whose descriptions of the personalities of each of the qualities are beautiful and artistic. What I find a shame is the lack of care in quality shown by the publishers - the book deserves better.

Gendler introduces the reader to several familiar friends...
Ever felt like your emotions have taken on a life of their own? Gendler in her Book of Qualities takes that feeling and bust it wide open. A friend gave me a photocopied copy to read and I ran out and bought my own copy. Gendler's ability to give each emotion (quality) their own breath is intriguing. I long to take a walk with Stillness by the ocean... and realize I have done so too little in my hectic life. So many books these days are nice little leasure empty entertaining snipets of fun. Gendler's book is one of those rare finds that will leave you longing for more and glad you took your brain out for the stretch. Enjoy.

Magical walk through my life
I found myself in every character of emotion. Ruth Gendler has put our thoughts into words in the most delightful way.
It is a book that delves much deeper than one would imagine at first glance. She has not left a single emotion on a negative note and that in itself is remarkable.
Readers will float away on the wings of Imagination, and stop when Doubt stands in your way.
I absolutely love the book and just can't find enough adjestives to describe it. You find yourself and others you know on every turn of a page.
This book will be on my gift list. I want all of my friends to experience The Book of Qualities.

Like Having a Trusted Friend By Your Side...
I have for years relied on a bread machine to indulge my desire for home-baked bread. No more. This book is a revelation, a gem.

If you scrupulously follow the introductory instructions for the basic Tassajara bread, you will be able to make any kind of bread from scratch, by hand, guaranteed. Just now I have two gorgeous loaves of millet bread in the oven, and this is just my second time making bread by hand. Thea author, Edward Brown, tells you precisely how the dough should look, how it should feel, and how to know when you are finished kneading. You simply cannot go wrong.

I have the other "bible" of bread making, James Beard's book, and, much as I adore James Beard, I prefer the Tassajara method of bread-making. There is less guesswork, and less seems to go wrong.

And I love the spiritual side, the bliss-out and enjoy-the-moment side to the book, as well. I will never, ever part with this book.

"The Bible for Bread Baking"
The Washington Post calls this book the bible for bread baking, and they are right on. This book is the best bread baking book I've come across. It gives techniques on actually making and baking a wide variety of breads. If you're looking for a way to make bread that comes out crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside, this book will help you. It's even beyond a bread baking book because it includes 118 recipes-everything from breads and rolls to pastries, muffins, and desserts. The recipes are easy to follow and ingredients are available at grocery stores-perfect for the at-home cook. The whole wheat pancake recipe is one of the many stand outs- absolutely mouth watering. If you're interested in baking breads among many, many other bread related recipes, I highly recommend this book.

More of a "cooking book" than a "cook book".
My ex-husband has "my" copy of the original 1970 version of *The Tassajara Bread Book*, so a few years ago I just had to run out and get the "Revised & Updated Edition" published in 1986. More than merely a book of recipes, it is a truly bonny bread book with marvelously detailed instructions and diagrams as was the original, but I must say Edward Brown's recipe for Tibetan Barley Bread alone is worth the price of this book.

*The Tassajara Bread Book* is more of a "cooking book" than a "cook book". Janet@netcom.com says *The Tassajara Bread Book* is "a great introduction to baking bread" because "this is a great basic how-to book". As with bread itself, "basic" is simply some flour mixed with enough water to form a dough; anything else we do to it merely makes it "civilized". I do not know how "civilized" Janet's baking is, nor do I know how much time she has just for bre! ad making, but for those of us who lead hectic lives always on the go but still want to minimize the amount of preprocessed and junk foods we eat *The Tassajara Bread Book* is top drawer.

My only dissatisfaction is that Edward Brown's *The Tassajara Cooking Book*, an excellent companion to this one, seems to be out-of-print at this time. Of course, my ex-husband has "my" copy of the original 1970 version.
