I wait years for this
I read the first parts years ago and always wondered where it would go, and it's so awesome to see it one piece. This is a true gem of modern literature.

One of the greatest long poems of the century.
Ronald Johnson, who died in March of 1998, worked over twenty years on his epic-length cosmological poem ARK. It was worth the wait--for those who love long poems like Pound's Cantos, Williams's Paterson, Olson's Maximus, or Zukofsky's "A", ARK will take a place among these great monuments. For those whose tastes run to more traditional works like Merrill's Changing Light at Sandover, ARK will delight and astonish through its ongoing exploration of science, spirituality, and the poetic quest. I've been reading this poem in bits and pieces for fifteen years now, and I am delighted finally to see it collected in a single volume.

Put the Armageddonquest series on your "must read" list...
Without a doubt, Armageddonquest is not only one of the best comic books that I have read, but also one of the best works of fiction I have been overall.

Do not confuse this series with an average graphic novel. 6 years in the making (with some chapters taking over a year to develop), Mr. Roach's incredibly well written 900-page-epic is full of incredibly complex and well thought out characters, plot twists, action, and overall adventure.   Somehow, through all the plots twists and turns, he manages to never lose the reader, nor contradict himself, all the while linking the story back to various prophecies.

Mr. Roach is clearly a scholar, and both his research and creativity shine through on every page.

While the art is at times crude, and while on a graphical level he may not be as good as others in the industry, he makes up for it and even goes beyond it through his storytelling and incredible plot. In the armageddonquest series, the black-and-white art is there to compliment the story, not drive it, and in this way, Mr. Roach has created a comic book that really sucks you in.

900 pages is a lot for any man to write, and a 6 year project is enough for a life's work, but I certainly hope this is not the last I see of Mr. Roach's work. I'm hooked.

One of the most pleasurable books I have.
Despite its small size and paperback format, this is one of my most treasured books. I am a resident of Michigan, and the fall is always a highlight of our year. Michiganders, as an army, await autumn leaves and "leaf peeping", as young children await Christmas morning. This is the ONLY book I've ever seen that really gives its reader a good understanding of this beautiful phenomenon.

The first 17 or so pages give a physical, chemical, and biological discourse on why leaves change, and on what goes into the makeup of the various colors. The next 100+ pages cover all deciduous trees of northeastern North America, in turn, with a good discussion of each species being attended by excellent four-color photographs of the subject tree in various formats, including group, solo, and partial shots. Finally a sixty-page section gives the same ememplary treatment to northeastern North American evergreens. These, too, form part of the fall patterns, albeit in a more subdued way.

If you live in the area bounded by Ontario, Minnesota, Missouri, Tennessee, Virginia, Maine, New Brunswick, and Quebec, or are planning to visit any states or provinces in that area this fall, buy this book now, and read it over. You'll be glad you did, this year and every year. I would give this book a ten-star rating if I could, and recommend it highly. An invaluable bargain.

Many color photos, nice treatments on species, well done
This is really well done. There are numerous color photos (both closeups, some whole tree shots, and often a shot of a grouping of trees showing the characteristics of the tree being described. I highly recommend this for anyone wanting a guide to Fall trees or even for planning your plantings. It's also reasonably priced. My only misgiving is that it isn't longer and cover the entire eastern US!

Great Introduction to Biological Transport Concepts
I used this book for an introductory course in Physiological Transport Phenomena. The book is great in that the author covers most of the transport processes as they apply to biological systems and provide numerous references and useful physical property data. Its nice to see how traditional transport concepts can be applied to problems for a system which everyone of us is very familiar with, namely the human body. The only criticism is that the book does not cover heat transfer and its applications to physiological systems. Luckily my professor provided handouts and supplimental material to the lecture. One of the books he used was the fairly old text by Cooney, "Biomedical Engineering Principles: An introduction to Fluid, Heat and Mass Transport Processes". I think this book is out of print but seems to have great information contained in it as well.

This book is a definite must have for any biomedical engineering student and possibly even experienced people working in the field.

Must for Chemical Engineers
Biomedical Engineering requires chemical engineering principles in several areas. This book highlights on those in particular and is a must for chemical engineers who want to know what their challanges are going to be in such biomedical engineering research areas. This also is a primer for the subject, although from a chemical engineering point of view. Ideal for a Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering course in any chemical/ environmetal engineering department.

I am too a war vet. and I think is great.
I was also 18 years old when I was sent to the Pacific and found everything that Sy Kahn wrote. Now at 71 years old I never thougth I was to find so realistic book and brought back so painful and glorius memories. This is my first war book I read and I do not regreted. I did realy enjoy it.

A true story of young soldiers during WW II.
I am the daughter of one of the book's character's (Rafael "Sancho" Sanchez). It was so interesting to read about not only my father's exploits, but the others in the company as well. It brought back many memories of the many stories my father use to tell me about his war experiences. It also brought a real perspective of the trials of war to someone who was born eleven years after it ended. Thank you Sy for bringing me and my family a part of my father we never would have known if you had not told your story.

Big Rigs of the 1950's . A worthy follow up to 100 years.
after purchasing Ron Adams previous book 100 years of semi trucks
I was confident this latest offering would be a worthy addition to my, or any ardent truck enthusiasts book collection.
I was not dissapointed!
If you are familiar with Rons previous work you will enjoy the many photos, and good quality ones at that, included in Big Rigs of the 1950's accompanied with his usual short but interesting
brief history and comments.
Big Rigs covers all main manufacturers as well as a few lesser known brand documented in mostly black and white shots, but theres enough color plates (approx 73) to bighten up the book.
All photos are of a good size.
If you are an avid truck photographer or enthusiast of either new
or older trucking history ,in this case American, you will
appreciate this book.

Biomechanics of Musculoskeletal Injury

Review of Biomechanics of Musculosketal Injury
The authors Whiting and Zernicke are to be congratulated for this high-quality reference book. As someone who testifies often in civil litigation cases regarding the physical mechanics of motor vehicle and premises accidents and the associated mechanisms of human injury, I found this book to be a superb addition to my technical library. For the uninitiated in injury mechanics, it begins impressively with a low-gear, historical, and introductory manner, and takes the reader though many basic mechanical concepts. The book then covers a wide assortment of human injuries and their causal mechanisms. I observed that the book is very well-formated with titles, sub-titles, text, add-in framed articles, effective anatomical line drawings, and illustrative photographs. While the book is technical in nature, I noted that it was written to be appreciated by those outside the technical area of injury biomechanics. I readily recommend this book to anyone interested in the mechanisms of human injury.

Best Biomechanics book for PT's
Well written and very through. Great combination of Gross Anatomy, Orthopedics and Biomechanics.

The Black Diaspora

A comprehensive account of Black History in the Caribbean
This book is a must for those who want an account of Black History in North America and the Caribbean. It really provides a foundation for you to view the Caribbean in different light and to understand why we are now where we are today. It is both informative and disturbing. This should be part of the National Curriculum in so many countries. The account Mr Segal gives on each Island is rewarding. I has a 'sense' of what I saw when I went to Martinique and the book provides firm facts which have enabled me to reflect on my journey and forthcoming journeys. If only more people from Europe and within the Islands read a book like this!!

Excellent source of African-based culture outside of Africa
Ronald Segal's book "The Black Diaspora" is an excellent historical and cultural account of African descendents living outside of Africa. This book is so smoothly written that it is impossible not to enjoy and learn a great deal from its pages. The format and flow are so well put together that Segal's many topics of discussion are beautifully linked with easy transitions. I loved this book and learned a huge amount about the black diaspora despite having read many, many other books on this same topic.

best book on current medications for schizophrenia
I think every doctor and clinician should have this book as a reference. It is also useful for family members and patients. It is the best one that I have found that gives clear information regarding the benefits of clozapine, risperdole, and olanzapine as well as guidelines for changing from the older medications that have more risk of tardive dyskinesia. If you only buy one book on up-to-date treatment of schizophrenia, this is the one! There are chapters with advice for patients as well. I gave a copy to a friend who needed this information, so am ordering another!

An important, in-depth survey of antipsychotic medications.
Breakthroughs In Antipsychotic Medications provides an important, in-depth survey of the antipsychotic medications which have succeeded in helping many, surveying the pros and cons of their side-effects and applications and including insights on the symptoms and treatments of various mental conditions.
