The Future of Banking (A Twentieth Century Fund Report)
Published in Paperback by Yale Univ Pr (1900)
Authors: James L. Pierce and Richard C. Leone
Amazon base price: $16.00
Used price: $0.50
Average review score:

A thorough and intelligent look at US banking law.
The title is almost a misnomer - much of the book is concerned with the past and present of US banking law - but the book itself is powerful. Mr. Pierce traces the evolution of commercial banking law at the Federal level from the founding of the first Bank of the United States to the present day, and the changing nature of the banking industry with an eye towards proving the thesis that current law, still based largely around New Deal thinking, is both out of sync with the state of the industry and inefficient. Pierce argues consistently for allowing market forces to play a greater role in shaping the industry and for regulating types of financial activity rather than types of institutions. The writing is consistently clear enough for the layman to follow without being simplistic, and the author argues his case eloquently.

A worthwhile read
The cases discussed in this book clearly highlighted relevant issues for any company involved in e-commerce. I work for a small manufacturing organization and while the discussions did not specifically deal directly with manufacturing organizations, I was able to identify items that pertained to our e-commerce applications. I have concluded that many e-commerce issues are common across dissimilar organizations and we can all learn from other companies' experiences. I recommend this book, regardless of expertise in the field.

The Need for Weed
This compilation of essays is very informative and persuasive on the debate of decriminalization of Marijuana. It includes not only facts on why marijuana should be legalized but also the views of those who are against it (proving to be a well rounded, written and balanced piece). This book is great for reference material for College essays and informative or persuasive speeches.

Stripping away the sheen
This book is one of a handful that have appeared in the years since the Montreal Protocol that have addressed the motivations behind those that acted to bring the protocol into being. It questions the simple thesis that it was simply an attempt to introduce environmental protection for one of the Earths damaged resources, suggesting instead that the primary motivation was more economically defined. the primary actors each had something to be gained in seeing a ban on CFC's in favour of their (generally more expensive) alternative. In this regard it presents a mass of evidence that might come as a surprise to those who believed that the treaty was a hopeful first step towards international agreements to benefit the Earth's environment, and it is a surprise that is unlikely to be a pleasant one. It does no-one any good to hide from the truth however, and the volume is thus a worthwhile read, as well as a useful pointer towards further reading around this area.

Pharmacy Practice and Law
This is a fairly easy to read text that is helpful in preparing for the pharmacy boards. It provides essential coverage of pertinent information needed in the everyday practice of pharmacy.

As a pharmacy intern I found this text not only excellent for board review but also as a continuing source for reference as a pharmacist. It is divided into varioius chapters with relavent and useful case studies. It also raises day-to-day ethical questions in the practice of pharamcy that you may encounter.

An excellent overview of the REIT Industry
The book provided an insightful overview of the REIT industry. The book was organized by various topics relating to investing and managing a REIT. The chapters were written by practioners and academics working in the different REIT industry areas. The authors were able to provide vital insights into their areas of expertise. As a new REIT employee I learned about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for my company and the REIT industry as a whole. some of the chapters were a bit technical in nature; particularly the analysis on historical private verses public REIT returns. Overall the book should be required reading for REIT investors and Managers as well.

Concise, and usually accurate, with good examples
A good overview of US law. There are issues which are matters of opinion and not explained well enough (ex. ethics), and perhaps needn't be addressed at all in a law book. The examples and the references make it a worthy purchase overall.

Very Imformitive
I found this book to be very helpful. I am looking for help in reestablishing credit. It seems that there is very little help out there. I found the credit reporting agencies very unfair in there practices and this book helps inform consumers.
