most comprehensive analysis of Gorbachev's period
This is the only comprehensive analysis of Gorbachev's reform policies. The approach is historical. There is no faddish jargon. The writing is clear and elegant. The author explains very convincingly how Gorbachev struggled with elements of the Communist Party apparatus to institute his reforms. Highly recommended for courses in contemporary Russian history and on the Cold War era.

A Grammar of Signs: Bartolo Da Sassoferrato's Tract on Insignia and Coats of Arms (Studies in Comparative Legal History)
Published in Hardcover by Robbins Collection, School of Law (1995)
Authors: Osvaldo Cavallar, Susanne Degenring, Julius Kirshner, and Bartolo da Sassoferrato
Amazon base price: $30.00
Average review score:

Extraordinary
A must read for students of medieval jurisprudence and for all those with an interest in either the history of law or of heraldry. The edition of Bartolo's text is fastidious and the translation is fluid, nuanced, and nearly flawless. The introductory material makes a good case for Bartolo's not knowing Hebrew nor having been given the right to bear his arms by the emperor. And after all these years, the hilarious letter by Valla is more an indictment of Valla's arrogance, predilection for invective, and ahistorical viewpoint than of Bartolo's "bad" Latin.

This book is exquiste!
Just the fact that the pages are matte and not glossy makes my day. Beautiful reproductions, lovely and dreamy story...what more could one ask? I recommend this delightful book for adults (such as myself), as well as children.

Insight Pocket Guide: Munich
I love my Insight Guide to Germany (we use everywhere we travel here in Germany). In fact, no one will let me leave home without it! As a result, I purchased the Pocket Guide to Munich for this summer's round of weekend trips. Very helpful and informative. I appreciate the effort made to include historical points and the wonderful photos, along with sample agendas.

Little Detours: The Letters and Plays of Luise Gottsched (1713-1762) (Studies in German Literature, Linguistics and Culture)
Published in Hardcover by Camden House (1999)
Author: Susanne Kord
Amazon base price: $59.00
Used price: $30.00
Average review score:

An outstanding contribution to German literary history.
Luise Gottsched is perhaps the most famous woman author of the German Enlightenment and the most erudite woman of her time. She is also frequently presented in literary scholarship as the epitome of failed authorship and a representation of the fundamentally unambitious and derivative writer. In Little Detours: The Letters And Plays Of Luise Gottsched, Susanne Kord (Professor of German at Georgetown University) argues for a critical re-examination of Gottsched's dramas and her letters to her mentor and husband, Johann Christoph Gottsched. What emerges is a painstakingly reconstructed and justifiably renewed appreciation for Luise Gottsched's life and work that will serve as a necessary and long overdue correction to prior scholarly neglect and misperception. Little Detours is a highly recommended addition to Germanic Literature reading lists and university reference collections.

Chiling and amazing
This is a very unique book with pictures of execution facilities in the departments of corrections in urban USA. The serenity and artisticity of the pictures strongly collide with the raw reality of the function of the execution rooms. There is not a single person on any picture. Beautiful and chilling.

By the way, though i am pro death penalty, i suggest that not even a dog should be executed in the Idaho State Penitentiary, Boise, Idaho. It lacks class

The Mathematical Theory of Finite Element Methods

a nice introductory book
This book is a very nice introductory book on the subject. It has a very nice presentation of the fundamental issues on finite element theory, such as interpolation theory on Sobolev spaces and variational formulations of elliptic problems. Also, it covers some advanced and more specific subjets such as multigrid methods and mixed methods for fluid mechanics, where it reviews some of the most used techniques to solve the saddle-point problems such as Augmented Lagrangian techniques and penalty methods.

Also, at the end of the book there is a very well written chapter focused on Interpolation operators, where there is a very nice (and very easy to read) presentation of the Sccot-Zhang interpolation operator, and some of the principal results on approximation.

Resuming, it is a very recomendable book in the subjet, specially recomendable for mathematics students interested on finite elements, and researchers in the field.

Meditations for Single Moms
"Meditations for Single Moms" should be a treasure for all moms in this challenging situtation.

I found the book so empowering that I just order three more copies for my friends. This book is the first thing I read each morning! The reading reminds me of my blessings for the day. The layput of reading with one affirmation each day for the month has been so helpful for me. It only takes a few minutes each morning to brighten my day.

This book is developed for all single mom's, no matter what stage one is in. I strongly recommend this little blue 91 page book for any single mom. Soon the pages will be maked and highlighted just like mine. I hope that you will treasure the book and contents as much as I do!

Good pics for Collector
This is a nice book showing pictures of some very nice golden oak antique furniture. It shows many high-end examples and a few of the more common items. The price guide is very optimistic in my opinion, at least for the mid-west region of the country. This is a nice follow up to the original Golden Oak book and I highly recommend it if you are an anitique furniture enthusiast.
