BUYING A HOUSE? ALREADY GOT ONE? This is THE book!
After wading through the countless other 'how-to' house decorating/feng shui books out there, I came across Brangham's great HOUSEWISE. Her advice is sound, smart, and easy to apply. The lessons in here never go out of style. My husband and I just bought and renovated a house and using the basics we learned in here, we've added probably $80,000 worth of value for half the cost!!! I highly, highly reccommend this book! This is the one we've been looking for.... READ IT AND SEE!

Fine outline with creative details.
Hands on experience for the person thinking of getting into renovation for fun and profit. You will be well led.

My Friend Emily
I have a child with Epilepsy. This book has taught her and her friends a lot. I understood it also helped the Epilepsy Foundation raise money. It is a shame it is out of print or only limited numbers are available. The publisher must be a fool. This book did only good and was well written and illustrated. I loved it and so did my daughter. Her entire class read it and one of my dearest friends who lives in Canada said their child's class read and loved My Friend Emily too. Can it be made available again?
S. Snow

Knowledge leads to Understanding
This is an excellent tool for parents, teachers and children who wish to educate others about epilepsy, its causes, symptoms and ways to help individuals suffering from a seizure. The story focuses on entertaining the reader while educating the reader at the same time. The illustrations are charming as are the characters. Please pick up a copy and enjoy while you learn about epilepsy in simple terms.

Like listening to a Fascinating Conversation
Dr. Jim Humphries discusses various issues concerning cats in a conversational tone. The book's question & answer format is easy to follow and is much like popular Internet FAQ's. Each question is a real question that Dr. Humphries encountered. You get to read the original question, so that in addition to getting the information you also get a glimpse of a unique human-cat relationship behind every question.

The book covers practically every aspect of caring for your cat. Health, nutrition, behavior and grooming as well as everyday care problems, are all discussed thoroughly. What appealed to me in particular was that this vet does not forget basic feline issues, even when they are not directly related to our pampered babies at home. In fact, the first part of the book deals with questions about humane societies, abused cats and strays, declawing, euthanasia and the so important issue of spaying and neutering.

Another nice feature is that Dr. Humphries is not afraid to speak his own mind. All through the book, he frequently names specific brands of food and medicine and either approves or disapproves. His advice is straight and to the point. Rather than having a "disclaimer", he simply makes his claims.

This book makes a good reading, even if you're not looking for a specific answer to a problem. This is not a cat encyclopedia. The Q&A format makes it less orderly and creates a more fluent structure. Then again, when something does come up, it is very convenient to pull out of the shelf and leaf through

Architecture and Engineering a common bond
Archi-neering provides valuable insite into the theory, development and design of Helmut Jahn's projects. Through interviews with Jahn and the engineer who makes his work possible, Werner Sobek, the book highlights the value of architects and engineers working toward a common goal: building a better future. While the professions sometimes experience a bitter rivalry, it is refreshing to see how men such as Jahn and Sobek have learned to work together and produce wonderful projects.

A Deep Look at the Holocaust
This book will take sometime. It reads like a PhD dissertation. Perhaps it is because it is a translation of a German book. Whatever the reason, it is well worth your time and will give you a deeper understanding of the holocaust.

This book focused on the people who planned and managed the holocaust - demographers, geographers, economists, civil servants, and academics. They saw population movement, control, and elimination as levers to modernize the German economy and manage its war economy. They blamed much of the economic problems of Europe on "excess" population and moved from birth control, sterilization, starvation, to the gas chambers to "manage" the social structures of Europe.

They were not goose steeping cartoon Nazis or manic rascists. They just wrote reports and made analysis. The book shows that Nazi Germany was not just a nation of conquerors who just happened to hate Jews so they killed them, but that the killing was an integral logic of the state and its modernization program. If they had won the war and elminated every Jewish person from the face of the earth the gas chambers would still have kept running, because it was seen as a tool of social policy by the people who oversaw them in their offices.

A pure picture of immorality and horror in which everything - life and death - is at the whim of the state.

Great small book on contemporary art!
This truly is a great book on contemporary art! I liked it a lot.
In this small edition, only about 190 pages, you get a lot of information about actual art and artist. The stil of the book is a beautiful combination of images and short but interesting texts. Also many important and international representives of contemporary art are shown. I recommend this book especially to people who want to get a first insight to contempory art.

Zwerger's dreamy watercolors are delicate, sensitive.
As an art student intensely interested in children's book illustration, I was excited to find this Lisbeth Zwerger book. If you are looking for a showcase of the artist's delicate watercolor style - and not especially interested in much text or biographical info on the artist, you will find this well-designed book to be a treasure. I am thrilled to add it to my collection.

Fun Projects That Look Good Too
The cover photo of this book gives a good idea of some of projects covered. However, the scope is a bit wider than just boxes. For example, there is a chapter on making a game chest. Literally, you build a box with pull-out drawers. The drawers themselves on the inside are part of a game - such as a maze with a marble or another drawer becoming a chessboard w/ matching pieces (instructions also provided for making them out of wooden dowels).

The author writes clearly and there are numerous line drawings detailing exactly what to do. There are also plenty of photos of the finished projects. Unlike some books that are mostly about decorating a box you already own this book is actually about how to make one and then decorate it. Some chapters discuss making various sizes of round boxes with corresponding lids (which actually turned out to be easier to make than I'd previously thought). One of my favorite projects in the book was making a series of progressively smaller crescent moon-shaped boxes that could be nested inside each other. Some of the boxes you can make include a pencil holder, tray with sloping sides, computer diskette holder, chinese boxes, various magic boxes, various sewing boxes, star-shaped boxes, a cotton holder and a diagonally opening box with drawers.

The first few chapters discuss the materials needed as well as basic instructions with line drawings on making various types of boxes. The later project chapters then show how to further adapt them or how to decorate them similarly to the ones shown in each photo. Different methods and instructions are shown for fastening them shut (in addition to making a lid). Overall, this is a fun book and by the end you'll know how to make almost any shaped box you want for your own original projects.

Excellent overview of Southwestern Art
Ya'at'eeh! As the editor/author of The Native American Indian Artist Directory, I found the Pages' book to be a perfect companion book. I would suggest reading the Field Guide first to learn about the arts and crafts that interest you, then read The Native American Indian Artist Directory to find the artists that produce the items you're interested in collecting for yourself. The two books together will help you have a wonderful experience in "Indian Country." Happy Trails!
