Great hands on ideas
This book is a great resource for hands on learning of numbers. No worksheet learning here! I had seen many of the ideas elsewhere, but there were quite a few fresh ideas. Most of the ideas use items that are easy to come by and require little preparation. This book is one in a series of preschool hands on learning books that are great.

Public Speaking
I used the text book for a "public speaking" course at California State University Hayward campus.

The book does an excellent job of taking the reader through the steps in preparing public speeches. It contains numerous examples of speeches.

The main thing I felt that the author did was to teach the reader a the step by step process of picking a topic, preparing an outline and delivering the speech it self.

good luck to all potential public speakers!

Writing alive
This bilingual blend of fiction and non-fiction by the Canadian feminist and lesbian Brossard is as potent as anything written by Virginia Woolf, Monique Wittig, Gertrude Stein, or Carole Maso. Based on a lecture she gave, this book is an exploration into finding new ways of using language. It also addresses the concept of writing in the feminine (especially true in French, where gender is apparent in the language itself).

WOW...Brain-Author endorses book...
In writing "The Care and Feeding of Your Brain" I purchased this book and also dug up some research saying that PC muscle exercises did not work in facilitating orgasm. My partner and I worked on the exercises anyway, mainly out of curiosity. It works despite what the academics say...maybe they were just too starchy-white-coated and stodgy to get results themselves. Seriously though, I think the specific method of accomplishing these exercises is the key that makes them different from simple "Keegil" exercises that were studied unsuccessfully. All the best to Dr. Keesling for finding what works...Kenneth Giuffre MD, author, "The Care and Feeding of Your Brain" (great companion book for finding things to optimize your brain while doing her prescribed exercises).

These techniques could have a profound affect on society
When I first saw the title, I sneered. But curiosoty impelled me to at least give it a glance. Dr. Keesling is not kidding. This book is no joke. It is a clear, systematic, organized approach to what for most men is only a daydream. It is also an approach to what a good many women have said in no uncertain terms was just what they wanted. It is also outrageously funny, makes you want to meet the author, preferably at a wine-tasting party. Read it carefully, preferably two or three times before you start. I lost two months hard work on the wrong muscles by not reading carefully. But do what she says and it will work!

Beyond my wildest dreams
I bought this book about 2 years ago. To be truthful, I was very skeptical but I had heard of this pehnomenon a couple of times before and decided I wanted to give it a try. The book is clear both in describing expectations and explaining the exercises and experiences step by step. And here's the best part: It really works!

It really works. I know I said it twice. Beyond being pleased I was thrilled and surprised by the results I achieved. I readily admit that I had to work very hard. But I wanted to and it was pleasant work.

I appreciate the research that went into this helpful how-to book that pays great dividends. I still use what I learned and have adapted the techniques to myself. I guess you can tell I am pleased. I plan to buy more of Barbara Keesling's books.

Thanks.

Worst Math Book Ever!
By far this is the worst math book I have ever encountered. The author introduction of the subject is very weak and brief. She tries to compensate for this lack of detailed explanation by introducing "lousy" examples that does nothing for the most part but confuse the reader even more. I have had several advanced math courses, and read numerous math textbooks, but this is the worst!

In short, this book is not worth the HIGH price, in fact it's not worth even the paper on which it was printed. I was "forced" to purchase this book for a course, which is required for my major.

If you do not have to buy this book, then don't!

too wordy for math majors
I just used this text for a discrete math course. Most of us were computer science majors and many of them struggled with the math and with the text. This is the audience the text is written for and the author tries to explain everything assuming very little about the student's prior knowledge. This math is obviously hard for non-math majors. If they need to learn it, I haven't seen any Discrete Math text that does a better job for this group.

The book is too simple and wordy for math majors, very strong computer science students and future math teachers. A better approach might be a book like D. Smith's A Transition to Advanced Mathematics for logic, sets, counting, mathematical induction, relations, and functions, combined with Chartrand's Introductory Graph Theory.

One could use this book at the high school level for a senior level discrete math course for strong students preparing for computer science as an alternative to taking pre-calculus.

Clear explanation of abstract concepts
This is a neat, complete text. The author is especially sensitive to the needs of the beginner in discrete maths who needs to get used to abstract concepts. This transition is handled very well. There is enough explanation to make you understand what is going on behind the mathematical symbols and at the same time it is not wordy. Despite this simplicity in the teaching approach, the author is able to take the reader from the elementary to quite advanced levels in each topic. There are interesting applications to the field of computer science and programming.

The exercises are designed to test your understanding and a few challenge problems are thrown in. This type of accessible difficulty in the problems builds your confidence. The solutions are quite elaborate and therefore make the book more useful.

On the whole a good, self contained book written such that you will understand each page and concept if you have a reasonable attention span. The author has made it as easy as possible for you.

Please note I have reviewed the first edition of this book as I found this edition rather expensive.

Not much of a reference
The book starts with a strange 'Introduction to Programming' chapter, which is for people who don't know what a variable is (good thing _that's_ in a language reference book!) Meanwhile, there is no 'Introduction to VBScript' chapter. I found it very difficult to find simple information on syntax and keywords (just try to find anything on function return types or declaring arrays...) The main Appendix, which contains lots of valuable information, is organized randomly by arcane subjects (and there's no listing of the subjects) so it's difficult to find anything. It also seems to be lifted out of a VB book and contains things that aren't even supported in VBScript.

The range of topics covered is useful if you're trying to decide whether VBScript is right for your project . But if you're just trying to write Active Server Pages, I recommend skipping this book and getting 'Beginning ASP' by Wrox -- it uses VBScript exclusively and has a better introduction to the syntax and usage of the language.

The Best VBScript Book
Although there are many books on scripting, there are only a handful of books about VBScript. Of those that do focus on VBScript, many pages are devoted to server-side web scripting with active server pages, which is amply covered by the many titles on ASP. This book by contrast is current, complete, and packed with chapters about all the cool things you can do with VBScript, including COM objects and how to write your own, regular expressions, HTML applications (*very* cool), ADO, how to build the Script Control into your applications, and yes, ASP. That's the first 500 pages. The remaining 280+ pages are references and appendices that add depth. I have seen no other reference in print or online from Microsoft that goes to these lengths to elucidate what can be done with VBScript.
The writing style is very approachable, and the Wrox Press model of a team of qualified people tackling different topics works very well (11 authors and 7 technical reviewers). These people really know the topics, and the book is well edited. An excellent value.

Great Book
I have read VBScript Programmer's Reference. I would to congratulate the team who put this book together. Its so well written I was programming within the day. Not just a "Hello World" program but a program of substance that opened files, validated them, wrote events in the event log etc.
The book is easy to follow and the short introduction to programming most useful for non-programmers like me and my team.
Unfortunately, for me, the book will lead to more work for me and my team of technical mainframe support staff converting mainframe legacy JCL to VBScript. I will be ordering two more copies of the book for my team and I am sure that they will gain much from it.
Even after a few days, members of staff from programming teams keep borrowing the book I am now forced to lie about its location (under my desk).
If I had a criticism I would say that Cscript should be covered in a little more detail, but its only minor point and I found the information I was looking for on the Web.

I bought 3 books on VBScript, the others are not bad books but they are written with a rocket scientist in mind and assume that the reader is competent in programming and modern scripting techniques. Thankfully your book saved the day and I actually enjoyed reading it. I get the impression that the team that put it together also enjoyed that task, it seems to come across in the text anyways.

Its a great book.

Cockatoos
This book is no longer usefull. The info. is quite out dated foe example the author tells you that cockatoos need ONLY a seed diet. This was so 20 years ago. Pellets have been proven to be the diet with seeds (if fed) should be 10% of the daily diet. He does say feed fresh veggies, fruits etc. Also you are told about importing birds. This is against the law & has been so for YEARS.Not very much info. most info is only a few lines.under usefull literature & addresses he gives you names & addresses of magazines that are no longer in business. Over all the book is not worth the ink to print it.

PRETTY GOOD
This book was OKAY. It didn't really talk much about how big they can get etc. Also, half of the book talked only about bredding which IS NOT the reason I bought it. I wanted general information on just SINGLE cockatoos not pairs!

Best Cockatoo Book Out There!
I gave this book 5 stars because it was very susccinct and informative.

Good Cuts
This thorough how-to book even includes instructions for lefties. Recommended for the serious paper cutter.

Wow!
This book is just lovely. It would be interesting and useful for paper cutters of all levels.

There are illustrations detailing both scissor and knife cutting techniques. Following the introduction of each type of technique is a smorgasbord of patterns for practice. There is a good bit of history of scherenschnitte, a chapter on using color, using scherenschnitte on eggs, and how to mount and frame your work.

Most of all, I love the many patterns included in the book. Some are simple enough for the first time student, others would challenge an advanced artist. I am new to scherenschnitte and am looking forward to using this beautiful and informative book for many years.

This book is a feast for the eyes. Everyone with whom I have shared it wants their own copy! I recommend it to all without reservation.
