a story that honors a timeless tradition
Throughout history, children all over the world have loved and cherished dolls. This is a children's story to honor that timeless tradition.

The rhythmic prose and detailed illustrations invite the reader into the quiet world of the "Doll lady."

This wise woman encourages children to not only love their dolls but to respect their unique qualities as well. "Some are very serious, while others are always laughing," the doll lady says. "The beauty is in their differences."

Inspiration for The Doll Lady came from the author's great-aunt Dorothy, who taught her to love and care for her dolls as if they were real children.

a unique book!
One of the most unique children's books to come along in years, The Doll Lady, by Elizabeth Collins-Varni, is a book for everyone who has ever loved a doll. Children and adults will appreciate the simple message behind the Doll Lady's wisdom, "Take very special care of your doll, for dolls are just like people. They need to be well loved, held tenderly and always respected for their uniqueness."

The message and the book are destined to be handed down through generations. The beautiful art of doll-maker/illustrator Judy Kuusisto is a joy to experience, and includes a hard page of paper dolls in the back, to cut out and to add pictures of your own favorite dolls.

A book of the Heartstrings Collection of enchanting children's picture-books, the author and illustrator have also collaborated on To Sleep With the Angels and Planting Memories.

a good story with a great lesson.
This enchanting story, written for children four to eight years of age, is based on a true happening. The Doll Lady is very old. She has been making dolls her whole life. She takes care to make each doll as an individual. Each one is different from the next; no two are the same. The Doll Lady believes that their true beauty is in their differences.

Most dolls that the Doll Lady makes are given to children. She says to each child to whom she gives a doll, "Take very special care of your doll, for dolls are just like people. They need to be well loved, held tenderly and always respected for their uniqueness." As she takes her daily walks, she tells the parents that she meets to give their children a doll, for if they had one, they would learn to be kind and to express love.

The story makes it obvious that the Doll Lady touched many, many lives; read the book to discover more thoughtful details about her. Younger children especially will likely find this story quite fascinating. Also, you--and they--can enjoy the many detailed pictures that all show bright and happy scenes. Each one has so many different parts to it that you'll want to keep looking back at them. This is a good story with a great lesson.

I had no idea!
I've had this wonderful book for months and just now realized that the pictures were made by one of my favorite artists (Kathy Murillo). I have to say I really enjoy this book so much, I don't consider myself much of a cooker or a crafter but these projects make me feel like I can do both. My favorite is the bottle of mango vinrgar (easy to make) with the wind chime hanging off of it.

i love this book!
what a fabulous book - the pictures are so colorful and bright. i dont even cook but this book makes me want to try just so i can make the crafts!

Growing up with Judy
This is the second book in the Judy Bolton series, all of which were based on real-life incidents. It is well-written (far better than the Stratemeyer Syndicate's Nancy Drew), and the heroine is a likeable, down-to-earth young girl whose adventures brightened my childhood. I still enjoy reading them today!

This is the second in the Judy Bolton series.
Judy is introduced in the first book, The Vanishing Shadow. This is one of the best of the 38 book series and as with all Judy Bolton's teaches about loyalty, honesty, friendship. I would like to correct a previous review. Judy does indeed grow older, and marry, however she does not have a child. This was planned, however the series was not allowed to proceed to that point

I wish more people had the opportunity to enjoy Judy Bolton.
I was introduced to both Judy and Nancy around 1948. I have always preferred Judy. I re-read several of both series lately, and am still of the same opinion. Nancy is an elitist, but likeable. Judy is a real person with good lessons about trust, honesty, making mistakes and correcting them. She embraces all types of people and encourages young people to not be afraid of differences.

Hello From Heaven
This book is wonderful. It provides hope and comfort for those who have lost someone dear to them. The author sensitively embraces a subject which is controversial. It is an inspiring read. Just beautiful.

Comforts your grieving heart
After the sudden loss of my brother in 1997 I started reading everything I could get my hands on trying to find comfort and healing. This book provided just that. Believing myself that life does in fact go on this book warms your heart with very personal experiences from others that have experienced a loss.

AN AFFIRMATION OF LIFE AFTER DEATH
This book gives so much hope to those who are mourning the loss of a loved one. Whether or not one has had an ADC experience, reading this book will not only help you to get through the grief, it may also help you to put aside the nagging question of "will I ever see my loved one again?"

Excellent Basics
I bought this book for my son 12 year old to compose a career report and so he could understand this area of interest. The writing is clear and simple. Sections of the book need more development and updating. That aside the book provided a clear picture of what is required to start a career and what is possible. If you know little about the industry this is a great place to start. The material is basic but the book does contain good references for follow up and more detailed reading.

This book is FULL of useful information. A must have.
Judy's upfront approach and honest opinion gives her readers an advantage not given by others. Not only does she instruct you on how to become successful in your aviation career, she also helps you to avoid the MANY pitfalls made by other aspiring pilots before you. Also included were valuable references to related services, publications, and other tools used in the airline industry. If you only buy one book about a career in aviation, let it be this one!

Prospective pilots, IT'S ALL HERE!!!
I am considering a career in aviation, and Ms. Tarver's book was the perfect place to start. She's realistic, practical and encouraging at the same time. No one should consider a career in aviation before reading this book through at least two times. Thanks for the help, Ms. Tarver.

Excellent if you fit a certain type
This book is great. It has a lot of great exercises and advice, and is very supportive. I did find that this book has been written for a narrow audience, a white closeted lesbian in her 30's. This is an audience that I just don't fit into. This book does try to address other audiences such as gay men, but does not handle it well. For those of you who fit into this book's audience, BUY IT! It's a great book. If you don't fit into this audience, you can buy it but might find that you can't relate to it as well.

Did you ever wonder if you were gay?
Are you a homosexual? Then this book will guide you on learning more about yourself. If you are not a homosexual, then it is an amazing opportunity for you to learn that the gay community has a sense of humor too. It makes fun of itself better than anyone else ever can.

Funny, but don`t just read it!
Judy helps you confront the fears of coming-out with humour and sound advice. Most of the stuff is quite obvious, but you`ll have to get the basics right however simple and/or foolish the exercises may seem to you. You`ll probably be able to avoid some of the stupid mistakes each and everyone of us seem to make while stepping into gay life on our own, and that alone is well worth the price.

Certainly useful if you are closeted, alone and scared, but also worth a look or two if you have rushed out without getting organized first (as I, and probably many others did!).

Great for toddler boys
I bought this book based on a recommendation I read here at Amazon. I am so glad I did. It gives great advice on what kinds of scissors to use (I bought an inexpensive pair as part of a hair cutting kit at a beauty supply house). It also talks about other supplies and various diversionary tactics to keep your child still while you cut his/her hair. Compared to several other books I saw in the stores, the instructions are extrememly clear and no-nonsense. Perfect for a parent with no hair cutting experience.

There are step by step instructions for three haircuts for boys and three for girls, plus guidelines for babies of either sex. The girls cuts may not be contemporary enough for some people, but are the basic single length and layered cuts. Plus there are instructions for French braids.

The boys' cuts are the wedge (bowl cut), a short layered cut, and a buzz cut using clippers. I've been doing the wedge cut on my son (now 28 mos) for about 6 months. The instructions are clear and the results speak for themselves. Everyone asks where I get his hair cut! I highly recommend this book. The cost of the book and some decent shears would be dwarfed by what I would have spend on cuts at a barber shop or salon.

Worth Buying
I originally checked this book out from our local library and found it so helpful that I plan to buy it for my own collection. After winging it for many years I finally have a guide that helps me give my son and daughter great haircuts ... for FREE! A great book!

A very helpful book, clear instructions, good illustrations.
I have used this book to cut my daughter's hair, my son's hair, my husband's hair, my hair, and several friends' children's hair. The drawings are great, the instructions are clear, and the author even tells you exactly what kind of scissors and comb to buy!

really good and christianity played a BIG role!
This was the first book I read in this series and have almost finished book #5. I enjoyed it because I could relate and understand her feelings. I'm trying tho, to become a better christian and going to my BIBLE as Lexi does made me feel more in the presence of GOD!!!!. Want to know why I didn't give it 4 stars? there were no HORSES!!!!.:)

Ceder River Daydreams Series
I have read all 28 of the series and I love them. They are all wonderful books that relate real life situations with the characters. They are so life like. These books are great for teenage christians, who want to know they're not alone, that other kids go through what they go through everyday. I would recommend these books to anyone who wants a good wholesome book to read.

It is a great book.
When I first read a book in the series, I couldn't wait until I saw the next one. I think Judy Baer is a really good author and I recommend her books to anyone who might be struggling spiritually or who is just looking for a good Christian series. I love the books!! Once you read one, I guarantee that you won't be able to put it down.

Road Warrior learned a few tips!
I love this book! I travel every week and I always find the packing for the trip to be the worst! I absolutely dread it each week. This book helped change that!

The different checklists are great for getting organized AND making sure that you pack every thing you need for your trip.

The bundling system is so incredibly simple and easy... with no wrinkles once you arrive at your destination.

The last part of this book is chock full of good reading on how to pack those bulky items such as shoes and winter sweaters and coats.

With all the security requirements with the airlines now (and tough limits on carry-ons), I really recommend this book... and I'm a road warrior that should've figured out how to pack by now!

Don't need travel iron anymore!!
After reading this book I found I could pack more "stuff" and arrive at my destination with wrinkle free clothing! The "bundle" method is a great idea. I recently bought this same book for my daughter-in-law and a friend's daughter who was traveling abroad.

Packing Paradise
Judith Gilford's book is aimed to the ones who have no clue about of how to pack, no matter if it is related to a weekend, business trip or a dreamy vacations. She makes the worst part of any travel experience mild and clear with her hints and tips throughout the book. It is a must-read if you need to know how to pack right. End of story!
