This is it!
Finally, a quilt book that makes perfect sense! Of all the quilt books I've bought, this is the first one I sat down & actually read cover to cover. Judy Martin wrote this book in plain English & all of the questions I had were answered & understandable. This book has changed the way I quilt!

Best I've Read.
I've been a sewer for years and have just begun quilting. I've purchased several "how to" and pattern books by different authors in order to get a feel for the quilting and design process. Judy's book is THE BEST. It is very readable and all instructions are clearly written. Her tips on cutting and sewing pieces THAT FIT TOGETHER are easy and logical and make the piecing process foolproof. Her approach truly does empower a quilter. Hats off!

The Creative Pattern Book is Marvelous!
The text in Judy Martin's Creative Pattern book is extremely well written and is very easy to understand. Every quilter should read the 7 Secrets of Sewing Success in this book. Judy's book inspires the quilter to have the confidence and knowledge to create a quilt. The Creative Pattern Book is a well organized book with lovely color and includes 12 patterns of quilts. Each of the 12 patterns have several variations showing details of the fabric, color and quilting. This book is one that you will use often as it has everything you want in a quilt book.

Dogs Deserve Dialogue...by Judy Moore
I have read Judy's book, seen her video, met her when she came to Milwaukee in 2001 to work with two dogs, and this year in May 2002 when she gave a wonderful presentation at the Wisconsin Humane Society talking about some of her successes which are also mentioned in her book. She did a live demonstration and as a volunteer at the facility, I received so much positive feedback from attendees. The book has helped friends of mine who recently acquired dogs and one person in particular refers to Judy's book as his "bible" when working with his dog. As a dog walker, Judy's book has helped me work with the dogs I walk at the shelter. The book is so worthwhile to every dog owner, both new and those who have had dogs, and this book should be associated on Amazon with other dog-related books (whether training or pleasure reading).

This is an exceptional book.
DOGS DESERVE DIALOGUE & Judy Moore's Video are exceptional and truly in the dog's language. Our German shepherd had been kept in a little kennel for breeding. They had two other dogs that were allowed in the house and car. We were given Jazmine at 3 1/2 years old. She hated dogs and people and was unmanagable. She was excellent in every other way. We have 11 dog books and none of that training helped us. We got Judy's book and tape and started working with her. Jazmine had to have a serious surgery and was quite ill for a month. Judy wrote us an email and asked how we were doing. We were very discouraged. With Judy's encouragement we started training again. Immediately, Jazmine picked up where we left off. She would behave responsibility with constant praise. This would have been impossible without Judy's book and tape. Judy Moore is an exceptional person, gives generous help and support, and is constantly wanting to help all animals. This is the only dog book you need for training. We suggest you get the tape as it is quite helpful. The dogs learn very quickly and without being stressed.

Dogs Deserve Dialogue
I own a very high spirited dog. When I first started walking him as a young puppy, we were both attacked several times by dogs that were not on leashes. Because of this, my dog has what I can only call Social anxiety. He is frightened of any new experience. Instead of cowering, he became aggressive. I have trained dogs using a variety of methods over the years, but only this book was able to help me help my dog. It inspired me to also join Judy in a weekend training session. Between the book, the video and Judy's help, my dog is able to handle his fears and even overcome some of them. It is not a quick fix, it requires a relationship with your dog. The work is gratifying and you will not believe what a wonderful dog you own!

The Family Inside: Five Stars
If I were to recommend only one book on mending Dissociative Identity Disorder, this would be it. Wonderfully, thoughtfully written and helpful to therapists, individuals who experience dissociative identity, supportive others who want to understand. A full treasure chest of healing techniques. Approaches mending from a developmental and inner family systems perspective (Virginia Satir). The authors share illustrative examples of healing and integration throughout the therapeutic work from both professional and client perspectives. Absolutely stellar: this book deserves the highest rating. Concurrently, there are many books on dissociative identity that really don't convey the complexity of either dissociation or of the therapeutic mending process. This one does. There are also some books on dissociative identity that tend to sensationalize the issue or focus on detailed or graphic descriptions of horrific abuse that may or may not be applicable to all cases of DID, perhaps giving readers a less whole and layered understanding than this book can, and in this sense evading one critical core issue of Dissociative Identity: severe developmental damage in the stages of child development. This book does not underestimate the consequences of severe emotional trauma and neglect in the development of Dissociative Identity Disorder. While sexual, emotional, physical, and ritualized trauma are covered in the book, the focus is on the way trauma is processed by the developing child, and on the ways to mend those developmental fissures. Trauma forever changes a child at the moments that it is experienced, and the changes in personality structure and developmental ability that result ripple through deep waters for years afterward. This book is a gem.

a must read
As a professional treating an MPD for the first time I equipped myself with just about every book available on this topic. This book by far has been the most informative, interesting and valuable of all the material I have read. Not only did it give me insight in to the structure of the "multiple" mind but has deepened my understanding of the effects of trauma on victims in general. The narrative is presented from the perspective of the clinicians and includes theory and practical applications and from the perspective of the patient which gives the reader an inside view of the experience of a "multiple". The material is extremely well written, well organized and structured in a way that it can easily be used as a referrence for specific issues and concerns that come up during treatment (must first be read from cover to cover). I do not ordinarily read professional texts as I do novels which I cannot put down. In the case of "The Family Inside", I toted it around and read it with great interest whenever I had a free moment. A must read for anyone with an interest in this subject.

This book is wonderful.
This is the only book I've read that talks about how a multiple's system may be structured. Now I understand why my insiders rarely come out, and when they do, mostly at night. The book also discusses and recommends co-therapy -- therapy with two therapists, which I've found therapists reluctant to do, even though I've suggested it. MPD is so bewildering. I feel for the first time, after reading this book, that I finally know where to place myself and my system in the galaxy, and what my work needs to be. It makes me feel connected, just a tiny bit, to the human race, which I've been outside of my whole life.

Everyone knows that cows yearn for that greener grass on the other side of the fence. In this lively picture book, Katie, a bored cow, is no exception. Her sites are set, however, on more distant pastures: the moon. Inspired by Farmer Beth's dances around the farm, the barnyard animals suggest a space ballet, and cram themselves into a homemade rocket built from cans and glue. The lack of gravity on the moon makes dancing ballet, the Watusi, and the Mashed Potato "udderly great," and even Katie's tight fit in a crater cannot dampen the mood of the lunar merriment.

Everyone also knows that the other side of the fence is not always as fulfilling. Katie soon begins to miss her own pastures. Along with the donkey, turkey, duck, sheep, cat, and other animals, she heads back home, their incredible journey unbeknownst to their sleeping farmer. Although now content in her barn, Katie appreciates the adventure that made her value her true home.

Matthew Gollub, an award-winning children's author, tells this humorous romp through rhyming text, with detailed, action-packed illustrations that add to the amusement. While the rhymes may come across as forced in some places when reading the text, an accompanying CD creates an experience that young children will find entertaining. the book that my child actually wants to read at night
The other day my 9 year old son came to me wanting me to read "Gobble, Quack, Moon"
My son was late in learning to read, but the wonderful illustrations and fun music and writing style in "Gobble, Quack, Moon" made him want to read. He pushed himself to try harder so he could see what happens at the end. Now he can read much better after completing this story. Thank you Mr. Gollub for bringing my child into the wonderful world of reading.
Now my son and I will get comfortable on the couch and read this excellent book almost nightly. I am sure my son and I will go on and read the rest of your books.

Grieving Well
I wish I had Judy Davidson's book "Grieving Well" 13 years ago when my husband died. Now six months ago my father died and again I face the journey of loss, loneliness, and the reality of not seeing my beloved father ever again. This book is a God send....it is a guide to be able to express ones self when you are not even sure what you need to express. It takes you from a beginning point and leads you down a path of recovery. As I began to express myself, in a journal form, I began to notice how much better I was feeling.
I recommend this book to everyone who has lost a loved one. It would be a first step in getting better.
Thank you Ms Davidson for you courage and for the gift of this book!!

Greving well is a First Class Journal
This book is one of the best journals on grieving available. I recommend it to all my friends and associates who are expereincing the grief of a personal loss.
Dr. Davidson's book allows for more indepth thinking about the greiveing process. Her openended questions in the journal show her first hand experience at gireving personal losses.She gently walks you through the greiving experience and allows you to truly feel and work though your loss. She asks you to refelct on expereicnes that other, less expereinced authors, do not ask ask. These questions allow you to get to the root of your greif.

Clearly Delicious
Enjoyed this book mostly due to the photographs. It does have alot of simple and easy, yet elegant recipes for jams and jellies that will be consumed by the average family. The label and gift wrapping ideas add a unique twist to the every day kitchen gift.

The "Herbs and Spices" chapter was a very pleasant surprise. Have you ever wanted to make your own Garam Masala, Pickling Spice, Quatre Epices, Five Spice Powder, Herbes De Provence, Bouquet Garni, Seasoning Salt or Barbecue Blend? Well, here are the recipes!

The last chapter is, well.....just intriguing. I have never thought of painting one of those decorated bottles. It looks so fun. If you love "craft" projects...there are quite a few. To decorate the jars, they have some very creative ideas and some that are more traditional. Presentation ideas gives ideas of how you can make mini-gift baskets.

A handy index leads you quickly to your favorite recipe. The step-by-step instructions stress the value of careful preparation so you can be assured of delicious results ever time.

One of the most beautiful "cookbooks" I have yet to see! This is a completely illustrated guide to some of the most delicious recipes I have ever found all in one book!

If you make one "preserve" recipe in your life...make it "Lemon Curd." It will seduce you into trying more recipes or you just might make that one recipe again, and again, and again! You will need to head to the kitchen shop and also pick up a "zester." An interesting little tool to remove the "zest/yellow peel from lemons"" or you can use your grater. I found many places online that sell bottles or most grocery stores do have the cutest bottles with colorful lids or do a search online for "canning jars."

Gourmet recipes for your pantry and gift list
I started canning jams as a food science experiment with a now out of print Harrod's book. Clearly Delicious (hardback) added recipes for preserves, marmalades, and flavored vinegars to try. The jam and marmalade recipes do not use commercial pectin, and seem more challenging than those found in the indispensible Ball Blue book, but turn out to be easy with clearly written and well-illustrated directions. Clearly Delicious is useful after a berry picking expedition, a trip to the farmers market, or mid-winter. I have made the wonderful lemon marmalade in December as a last minute addition to Christmas gifts and by repeated requests. The lemon marmalade is also good stirred into tea, in thumbprint cookies, as a cake filling, and for fast Chinese lemon chicken.

There is a separate section on packaging food for gift giving. In the hardcover edition, the food is shown in a variety of jars and bottles. This is ok if the food is to be refrigerated, and the author and publisher do note that the the food was photographed just after packaging and the jars shown are not all suitable for longterm storage. Longterm storage directions are included with standard canning jars, so this is not a concern.

Parents, this book has great content to spark helpful discussion between you and your child who struggles with writing. Not only does it provide a tool for understanding the emotions behind the struggle but it provides helpful insight into the reasons for this struggle. Regina Richards has had a long and respected career as a "cutting edge" educator of children with special needs. Her knowledge on a "heart level" in helping her son, Eli, to face the challenges of dysgraphia together with her professional explanations and suggestions makes this book a must!

Learn how it feels to live with learning differences
I enjoyed the book, Eli: The Boy Who Hated to Write, and gained some important insights into the lives of those who struggle with learning difficulties. As I began to read this book I realized that it is a must-read for anyone working with children, whether it be in the role of teacher or parent. Once I had finished it, I recognized that this is a story everyone can enjoy and benefit from reading. On the surface, the book tells a story that is written for children who learn differently, especially the dysgraphic child, but there is so much more to gain from it. The plot follows the trials, tribulations and triumphs of one such student, Eli, who experienced problems in school due to his difficulties with writing and spelling. Although he had many creative ideas, his dysgraphia interfered and his written stories were abbreviated versions of the wonderful stories he had in his head. To add to his problems, his teachers and fellow classmates didn't understand his learning differences and felt that he just didn't try hard enough-he was a messy writer or was stupid. With the help of his parents, Eli tried to explain his frustrations to his teachers and thus was able to help design a plan that gave him some options for times when he felt frustrated in school. Eli still felt that some fellow students didn't understand him and made fun of his difficulties. Through an adventure in finding his way out of a cave, Eli used his special gifts and at the same time saved the class bully from his fear of being lost. Eli, his mother, and a special imaginary friend, a gnome, helped teach his friends that we all learn differently and have special gifts or talents. This is a clever way of teaching positive self-talk. This book shares so much with the reader at so many levels. It exposes one to the hurt, frustrations, and feelings of poor self-worth that a child (or adult) has when he or she experiences learning differences. It teaches us to seek and find the talents that each person possesses and to praise each other and ourselves for those strengths. It demonstrates how we as teachers and parents need to help children feel important and provide opportunities for each child to succeed. We also need to give each child their own special "gnome" (positive self-talk) so they recognize their gifts and draw upon them whenever necessary. These same lessons can be applied to adults-we all need to recognize the talents we possess. The book concludes with some great stories written by Eli, which demonstrate his sensitivity toward others and their differences, as well as his creative skills. The end of the book also includes practical recommendations for parents and teachers to help students who have difficulty with written language tasks. Every teacher (special education as well as regular education) should read this book. Every parent of a child who struggles with writing or another aspect of academics should read this book. Most important, every student who struggles with learning should have this book read to him or her. I enjoyed Eli: The Boy Who Hated to Write and gained important insights into the lives of those who struggle with learning difficulties.

SOUND, UNCOMPLICATED, STRAIGHT-FORWARD ADVICE
As a counsellor and teacher who has studied human behaviour, one of the topics covered in my program is stress management; stress and anger often go hand-in- hand. Anger can be an emotion used to protect one from the challenges and obstacles in life he or she prefers not to deal with. Uncontrolled anger can be negative and damaging to ourselves and others, often steming from an action causing fear or hurt.

Judy Ford has written an excellent book on how to deal with negative emotion in a constructive manner. Left unleashed, or supressed, anger can cause a lifetime of pain and suffering for the recipient, particularly so when the recipient is a child. Anger can also contribute to a vast array of emotional and physical problems for the individual who cannot manage his or her own anger is a positive way.

"Getting Over Getting Mad" is like any other self-help book; in order for the message contained to produce results, the reader must be fully committed to improving and making long-term changes. Recognizing and accepting that one has an anger management problem is the first step, making a serious commitment to dealing with the problem is the next. Ford writes in a straight-forward, no-nonsense manner. The book provides excellent resource material and is well worth reading.

In Getting Over Getting Mad: Positive Ways to Manage Anger in Your Most Important Relationships," Judy Ford, M.S.W., explains why we feel anger and what to do about it.

A psychotherapist, consultant, and best-selling author, Ford has worked for over thirty years with children and families in a wide variety of settings. This is her eighth book.

She presents her information in four major sections: dealing with anger at personal setbacks, at significant others, at children, and at colleagues. Underlying everything is the concept that we all feel anger at one time or another. It's how that anger is expressed, not the anger itself, that can create problems. Ford says that "while I know that we all have reasons to be angry, I can't think of one good reason to stay mad for very long." She distinguishes between "distorted anger, which tears families apart, and healthy anger, which keeps relationships thriving."

Ford emphasizes using anger to help in personal growth and offers myriad suggestions on how to make anger work for us. She includes examples of how real people have learned to manage their anger. The key is to recognize and deal with the anger as soon as it develops, before it grows into a major disturbance. And contrary to what many people have been taught, repressing anger doesn't solve anything.

Ford's suggestions and tips are practical and simple. Most involve learning to recognize exactly what you're feeling, and then delving into what created that feeling. After that, the underlying cause of the anger can be resolved. Often, just recognizing what's happening frees us from negative reactions.

She says that "sarcasm, manipulation, passive-aggressive acts, physical illness, depression, rebellion, and violence all result from the ability to express anger and resolve disputes." If any of these symptoms are a part of your life, then Getting Over Getting Mad will provide the information and tools you need to turn your anger from destructive emotion to healthy growth.

P>A new book, GETTING OVER GETTING MAD, covers four areas of life in which anger is often a problem: our relationships with ourselves, our partners, our kids and those we work with.

Anger is often a problem for ourselves. Few of us like ourselves after we've blown up. Yet, we are responsible for our anger. We can't blame it on someone else. Even if someone else acts foolish, that is no excuse for us becoming angry and blowing up. By learning how to handle anger within ourselves, we can deal with both ourselves, and others, much better.

Anger is often a destructive force in marriages and relationships. It may result in the death of loving feelings, or in abuse. We need to understand how to respond to this anger, both ours, and theirs, in safe and caring ways.

Anger can be destructive in parenting. Inappropriate anger is harmful and abusive to children. Explosive anger may hurt children physically, and may drive them away from us emotionally.

Finally, anger can affect us at work. It can turn jobs into hell. It can also destroy friendships and relationships.

"Getting Over Getting Mad" is the best book on anger I have read in years. It is written in the style of the Chicken Soup books, about a page per topic. I can't cover this book fairly in one column. So, for the next four weeks, I will share a few of the ideas, which are so excellently covered in this book.

Recognizing and understanding anger in the presence of yourself, is the only way to be in charge of anger, instead of having anger in charge of you. Getting Over Getting Mad, by Judy Ford has some excellent direction on this task, presented in a series of short, and very readable one to two page articles. Here is my understanding of a few of her ideas.

1.Uncover the hurt behind your anger. Anger is a shield hiding things, that you don't want to deal with. But if you face this fear, which is one of the emotions that hides under anger, you will find the courage to deal with what you really don't want to deal with. Dealing with these hurts and anxieties is the first step in understanding how to handle anger.

2.Frown Freely. You can express disappointment and unhappiness without losing control of anger. But if you don't deal with those things, they will eventually build up and catch up with you. There is no rule that says that you have to be or pretend to be happy all the time.

3. Let yourself be human and imperfect. Nobody else in the world is perfect, so why do you have to be?

4. See anger as a blessing. Anger can be useful and helpful is you recognize it and handle it appropriately. Using anger constructively helps clear the air and improve your relationships with others.

5. Get to know the little devil within. Once you accept you don't have to be perfect, then you can recognize the little devil in us all, that wants to settle a score with someone we think did us wrong. If you can learn not to take your little devil too seriously, or even laugh at it, you can be in charge of you, instead of that little devil controlling your life.

6. Walk the high road. Before you respond to some aggravation, ask yourself "What's going on here? What can I learn? What can I do positively to deal with it?" Once you purposely look for a positive way to respond, your mind is distracted from automatically acting in a negative way.

7. Take grudges to the dump. When you write something down, on and feelings outside of you for a moment. Then they are easier to see and deal with. Remember, the more often you clean out a garbage can, the less it starts to stink and bother you, and others.

8. Beat a drum, play a piano, dance. Ford suggests finding something safe to take out your physical energy on. Pounding a drum is a safe way to express anger to yourself. If you don't have a drum, an empty box, or a plastic wastebasket, placed upside down, becomes a good way to express your energy. Drum with a regular beat. You and your body will get in tune with that rhythm, and you will find yourself relaxing. Some years ago, while at a men's gathering, the leader had me lie on my back on a couple of mattresses and pound my hands into them. I felt foolish at first, but after 5 - 10 minutes of expressing physical energy, I found myself relaxed, both physically and emotionally.

9. Shout outside, scream in the shower. This idea is based on the question, "If a tree falls in a forest with nobody around, is there any noise?" We all need places to make noises and express emotions, in situations where we will not hurt or upset other people. It may seem funny. But, it's a safe way to discharge energy that you need to get rid of. You can't hurt a tree by shouting at it, and it doesn't shout back.

Anger is often a problem for ourselves. Few of us like ourselves after we've blown up. Yet, we are responsible for our anger. We can't blame it on someone else. Even if someone else acts foolish, that is no excuse for us becoming angry and blowing up. By learning how to handle anger within ourselves, we can deal with both ourselves, and others, much better.

Anger is often a destructive force in marriages and relationships. It may result in the death of loving feelings, or in abuse. We need to understand how to respond to this anger, both ours, and theirs, in safe and caring ways.

Anger can be destructive in parenting. Inappropriate anger is harmful and abusive to children. Explosive anger may hurt children physically, and may drive them away from us emotionally.

Finally, anger can affect us at work. It can turn jobs into hell. It can also destroy friendships and relationships.

"Getting Over Getting Mad" is the best book on anger I have read in years. It is written in the style of the Chicken Soup books, about a page per topic.

These are just a few of the 28 ideas Ford shares on dealing with anger, in one section of her book, called "In the Presence of Yourself." In the next three weeks, I'll share some of her ideas on doing the same with anger towards sweethearts, children and colleagues

Parents are both teachers and models for their children. We teach by how well we listen and explain, at a level appropriate to their development. We teach by how well we direct their choices in their formative years. We teach by our own role models. If we don't handle anger appropriately ourselves, they may follow our behaviour rather than our teachings.The section, "In The Presence of Children" in Judy Ford's book, "Getting Over Getting Mad" has many positive ideas for parents about children's anger, in short, readable one to two page articles.

When children are angry, you must first get their attention by recognizing and acknowledging their anger. You have to be what Ford calls "A Feeling Detective". Young children don'

Oldies but Goodies
In anticipation of my soon-to-arrive grandchild, I bought this book to help myself remember all the songs I used to sing to my own children who are now grown. The songs are simple to sing, the melodies are simple---which is good for me because I am just a grammy who wants to sing to her grandchild. I actually tried the songs out on my infant nephew and he enjoys them. I sing to my daughters tummy and my grandson moves about alot while I sing. I assume he is dancing. The illustrations are very nice too and I think the book will get alot of use. I highly recommend it.

Singing as we travel!
Recently, we sang our way along the roadways
of Washington State to the Columbia River Gorge.
I had purchased the book and my husband and I
knew the words and tunes; however our 8 year old
granddaughter did not and could read them. We
had such fun singing when the views were of desert
and desolation. We laughed and giggled along the
trip of 5 days enjoying a bit of what our grand-
parents taught to us at the same ages. Boredom
was not spoken and we all enjoyed the trip thanks
to the book and our memories we shared with each
other. Of course when I was a little girl we did
not have airconditioning, and all of the conveniences
and singing to our hearts content was a way of passing
time in a positive way for all of us. Memories!

Classic songs - kids love the illustrations
The paintings illustrating each song capitivate my 2 and 3 yr. olds, and go all around the pages. This songbook wins out over the other ones we have because the kids love being able to pick out their favorite songs by the pictures. The music itself is simple, and the songs are classic and easy for kids to learn/sing. This one is a winner!

The best of its kind
I gave Hello! USA to a friend who came here from France with her husband and a little baby. She has been in the United States before, but just to visit. She kept telling me how much she loves this book and how much it has helped her. My friend's English is not that good, but she said she understood almost everything in the book. I think this book is a wonderful gift for anyone coming here to live.

A Must for all New Comers to the US
Even though the first edition of Hello USA was attractively presented, and very thorough, the presentation of the second edition is even crisper and the content is even more inviting to the readers. Some welcome additions are website addresses, chapter heading on each page, and references for the Author's Favorites. Suggesting for example the length that food should be kept in the refrigerator is a welcome addition for someone not used to the American kitchen and to the products available in the stores.

The technology has changed since 1996 and the book reflects these changes like the wording used for the credit cards from credit cards become more popular to credit cards can now be used.

The discussion on the intensive English programs is more generic and therefore offers more possibilities to the readers.

I would highly recommend distributing this manual to newcomers. Reading Hello USA would certainly prevent many puzzling and anxious moments to newcomers to the US.
