GHARARDELLI Original Chocolate Cookbook
This should be a "must have" for every chocoholic! The recipes are positively lucious, and it is easy to get the necessary Ghirardelli ingredients by phone, or online for those underprivileged who don't live near a Ghirardelli shop. CAUTION: Reading these recipes can definitely be fattening!

Deeply moving. Excellent illustrations!
A must have for anyone interested in Native culture. Each rite is carefully described with a sincere reverence and enhanced with beautifully detailed illustrations. I wish that American schools would use this book as a part of their American History curriculum. Highly recomended!

Real people stepping out from an Arthurian tapestry
Like many authors, Vera Chapman tackles the daunting task of retelling and rounding out the characters of a well-known story. Unlike most authors, her retelling succeeds because it reads like her own story. While you know how it must end, you look forward to the fun of getting there. The story is the tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, in which Sir Gawain meets a challenge of almost certain death. However, by some deft family-history work (which is completely possible to my knowledge) she succeeds in making the characters her own, whose personalities are new and whose attitudes are modern and easy to sympathize with while not being anachronistic. What drew me into the story most, though, was the author's wonderful use of language. She writes in a lush descriptive style which leaves the readers with as clear a picture as a medieval tapestry. These vivid descriptions make the pages pass quickly and make the book impossible to put down. Luckily, the book is s! ! hort enough to make reading it in one (long!) sitting possible, since Chapman also knows how to make her storytelling concise while maintaining the atmosphere of a royal court. I highly recommend this book to anyone, teenage or adult, who loves to hear a good story being retold.

Good Reference
This is an EXCELLENT reference manual. Its a "bit" mathematical, but does need to be updated regarding turbo codes.

Keeping Family Stories Alive
Excellent book! I reviewed several books found on an annotated bibliography regarding doing oral history interviews. This one was by far the best.

A must for anyone who truly wants to cook Italian!
I grew up in an Italian restaurant, cooking for my Southern Italian Father. This book has taught me a tremendous amount about seasoning and braising, just to name some examples. The recipes are detailed and well explained. They generally require some time to prepare. However, the result was outstanding in every recipe that I have tried. If you are willing to take a little time to prepare, you will find this book most rewarding. This is not a quick dinner book, but one that explores the true sophistication of Italian cooking. Be sure to try the Osso Buco and Involtine of Veal recipes early on!

_evvie_ is set in the twenties and one has to wonder if there are any autobiographical details in it. the characters are well drawn, the plot sails along, the solution is at once tragic and banal, not a bad feat. but what hypnotized me was the way the habits and the atmosphere of the roaring 20s were presented. former hippies, eat your hearts out, your grandparents were swingers with a vengeance.
its a great pity that caspary is out of print. apparently, from the list, some titles were reprinted in the 80s, as well as the paperbacks from the 70s. but, except for fans of old films and gene tierny, few people are likely to know about caspary, although most mystery fans will have heard of her contemporaries such as hammet, chandler, and cain. she is not as bloody, but she is at least as perceptive as any of them.
_bedelia_ another of her titles, may be the first mystery about a female serial killer. its just as fascinating as _laura_.
