Praise God
Before I became a born again Christian, I was very much "one of the boys" in that most of my friends were men as I seemed to get on better with them than with women. I realised after becoming a Christian, that I needed to develop my "femininity" and to relate more to women - which is why I bought this Bible. When I first saw it and looked through it, I didn't like it much as I felt it looked TOO feminine and that it wasn't much of a study bible, etc. But each time I picked it up, I became more and more struck by how beautiful it is - the purple leather cover, lettering and lovely font - not forgetting the great inspirational letters. I found myself becoming more and more drawn to this Bible. To me, this Bible has a strong spiritual "presence", for everytime I open it, it evokes everything that I believe a Christian woman should be - warm, loving, inspiring, comforting, maternal and supportive. I know that may sound a litte strange to some of you, but, thats what I sense (my other Bibles don't have the same effect). I now carry this Bible with me to work and home again because its so wonderful to have! Sisters, I truly recommend this Bible to you. God bless you all!

I loved it!
As a young reader (20), I loved the book, Women of Destiny. It was a great encouragement to me as a young lady. It showed me how God can use women just as well as men. I was struggling with knowing for sure if God had called me into the ministry. However, after reading this book and others like it and doing a lot of praying, God showed me that children and youth ministry is where he wants me to be. I want to thank all the many women who took the time to share their stories in the book. May God bless you always.

Cochrane : Britannia's last sea-king

Fascinating Account of 'Britannia's Sea Wolf'
This book was first released in 1978 but has now been re-released in hardback by Cassell under the title 'Cochrane, Britannia's Sea Wolf'. After reading this book I am amazed that it has taken nearly twenty years to be re-released. What a great story Mr. Thomas tells of Thomas, Lord Cochrane, later the 10th Earl of Dundonald. From his birth through to his death covering all his exploits in numerous sea battles and actions, so many in fact that you find it hard to believe that he survived.

The book covers Cochrane's battles during the Napoleonic Wars during which, on many occasions, he sent his ship in action against overwhelming odds. It was during this period that he was recognized, as one of Britain's most daring and successful captains. It was also during this period that he made many enemies, although he pressed hard in every action and took many risks, he always considered the well being of the men under his command. This later led to his single-handed campaign against corruption in the Admiralty.

Following the end of the Napoleonic Wars in 1815 Cochrane commenced an extraordinary career as a mercenary admiral. He subsequently commanded the navies of Chile and Brazil and launched campaigns against their protagonists, Spain and Portugal. After finishing his 'little wars' in South America he took command of elements of the Greek navy in their war against the Turks. In all these campaigns Cochrane again showed that he was one of the best naval commanders of his time.

The narrative flowed along smoothly and although I have no great knowledge of maritime history I had no problems in following this story. In over 350 pages of text along with a number of black & white plates and a few maps Mr. Thomas tells a wonderful and exciting story. This is the type of book, which I am sure any person who has a love for history or who enjoys the novels of C. S. Forester and Patrick O'Brien will just love. A must for any serious student of naval tactics or Napoleonic warfare.

Great book
I watched the movies, the Jack Nicholson one and the made for tv one, then I read the book. Even with watching the movies first the book was excellent. I was scared even though at times I knew what may have happened and there were other surprises. The book was just a simple demonstration of Stephen King's excellent writing. i have recommended this book to all my friends that have not read it and they have loved it too. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys some surprises every once in a while.

A good translation for the serious student
With all of the current debate over Bible translations, its hard to know where to turn. Some factions are even militant in their claims for one version over the other. And there can be no doubt that some of the newer translations are indeed lacking. But as a Pastor, I have found the NAS an invaluable study tool, and one I recommend for several reasons. 1 - If you are looking for more precise renderings in the nuances of the original autographs, especially the Greek, the NAS wins the day. Although the English may be a bit halting at times, it becomes quickly evident that there is increased clarity of meaning. Bear with it being a little "clunky", and you'll be rewarded by the treasures of the linguistic subtleties rising to the top. 2 - It makes an excellent bridge between the Elizabethan quaintness of the KJV and modern English. While nothing rivals the beauty and music of the KJV, the NAS still retains a stately reverence and never falls into familial contempt. It is true, there are some textual concerns over which manuscripts were used for translation in the NAS vs the KJV. But the majority of the differences are minor, and no major doctrine of the orthodox Christian faith suffers in the process. In fact, you'll probably find the themes emerging with more precision and clarity than ever before. For memorization, stick with King James. For serious study and teaching, pick up an NAS and enjoy

Helpful Commentary on Obscure Shakespeare
Tom Pendleton's collection of essays on Shakespeare's "Henry VI" plays provides interesting and helpful commentary on texts unfamiliar to most readers and audiences. Pendleton's introduction offers perceptive discussion of the plays, their place in Shakespeare's canon, their significance in the Elizabethan period, and their critical fortunes over the centuries. The essays that follow examine the plays from a variety of perspectives, perhaps most interestingly in terms of performance, including Pendleton's own interview with a contemporary actor who performed recently in productions of these plays at the New York Shakespeare Festival. But there is also interesting coverage of filmed versions of the plays and of various critical issues surrounding these earliest of Shakespeare's works.

King James Bible Review
This book is the greatest book that ever was or will be written. This book was inspired by God and copied down by holy men as God told them what to say. The Bible is a best seller and will never pass away, because Jesus said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." The King James version of the Holy Bible is the inerrant word of God. This edition is especially nice because it has large words so you can read it better, good study helps and maps, is bound with bonded leather so it will last a long time, and has a beautiful cross on the cover. I would recommend this, or any other King James Bible, to anyone.

New Open Bible
The KJV New Open Bible is one of the most comprehensive study Bibles available. I really like the topical index, the introductions to each book of the Bible, the index to Visual Bible Study Aids, and many many different helps and aids in studing and helping to understand the Bible. I sell different Bibles at my church, and this is the Bible that I use the most, and personally take to church.
