WAY TO GO JANICE BOLAND!!!!
I think that Janice Boland has a way with her words and itreally made me and the children that I have read her book to laugh. The illistrations also make her books ones that we always come back to. I had a chance to take care of Janice's grandkids and that is how I learned about her books. I will forever love them and have recently bought 3 more books to put away for my own children one day. Keep up the great work.

Spooky stories that are perfect for new readers!
If your younger elementary aged child is looking for a spooky thrills, this is a great book to buy. The well written stories are very suspenseful and mysterious. Another great collection of spooky stories for beginning readers is I DARE YOU! STORIES TO SCARE YOU! by Kathleen Keeler (Scholastic, 1999). Working in the public schools, I've discovered that even children who are struggling with reading, gobble up these two exciting books.

Great buy
If you do not want to read complex motivational and psychiatric theory about athletic and mental performance, this is the perfect read, because its daily motivations are not only trenchant and stirring, they are also meaningful and evocative. Not all 365 mini-essay will pump you up, but I dare say everyone, anyone, who takes his training seriously can find at least 10 passages he will bookmark and refer constantly to for inspiration. This is really good, the only one of its kind I know, I'd buy it if I could decide all over again.

Wonderfully simple look at fractions
This book is an accurate description of how children react to sharing. As the brother and sister learn to share the food each of them have, they are also learning about fractions. Each child is reminded by their parents to divide the pizza, juice, and cupcakes in half to share equally. The children's first instinct is to share unequally. The book introduces new terms (i.e. divide) and gives the reader a fun introduction to fractions and getting along with each other.

Greek Immigrant Chronicles
Published in Paperback by Meteora Pr (1990)
Author: Nicholas V. Karas

2nd generation discovery!
I am a second generation Greek/Italian, and having grown up in the Lowell area it was always known to me that there were a sizable population of Greeks that once lived in the Lowell area. After a visit to Greece my curiosity brought me to research my heritage. In the "The Greek Immigrant Cronicles" I found information about what regions of Greece the immigrants most came from, their customs and their stories. My grandfather was a Maniote and I now better understand their stife (and why they're so easily offended and stubborn!). The "The Greek Immigrant Cronicles" tells many a story through the eyes of the first wave of Greek Immigrants and reveals the hardships, the strength and the hopes, of our grandparents as they were forced into this new world. I understand better now the way my grandparents and parents felt about family and the passing down of customs and preserving the Greek Orthodox religion. It was hard for them to let go of their home land and they never did. My memories as a child are only now understood through facts and other information that I have learned from reading "The Greek Immigrant Cronicles". I learned that the church that I attended as a child was the site of riots and turbulence in the 1920s and that it is now a National Treasure because of it's status as the first Bizantium style church in North America. The church which I will be married in. I learned of the coffee shops and stores where the Greek men would debate politics. Places that I can only drive by now and immagine what they were like. Nicholas V. Karas does a splendid job of interviewing the Greek old timers and capturing their story and their spirit. If you've ever had a desire to scratch the surface of your Greek heritage, especially coming from the Lowell MA. area, this book will bring a mix of emotions from sad and remorse to uplifting and funny but in the end you will feel more attached to your heritage and hopefully, as I felt, more gratefull to these Greek immigrants who paved the way for our (their children) lives here in America.

The Island Wife

Authors: Jessica Stirling, Kara Wilson, and Jessica Sterling
Amazon base price: $96.95
Average review score:

A sterling nineteenth century Scottish romance

Their father seems to be in a constant drunken state. Their younger sister Aileen seems to have physically and mentally stopped maturing five years ago when she turned ten. Their two brothers are always looking for a quick rich scam. Only their mother serves as a positive role model. Yet life on the island of Mull off the coast of Scotland in 1878 was pleasant enough for sisters, Biddy and Innis.

However, everything abruptly changes when a newcomer, shepherd Michael Tarrant, arrives. Both sisters want him for themselves and a sibling rivalry breaks out between them. However, Biddy, being prettier than Innis, catches Michael's immediate attention, but its is Innis, the deeper of the duo, who falls in love with the Incomer. With the rivalry turning acrimonious, it would seem that none of the participants in this skewed triangle will find lasting happiness.

THE ISLAND WIFE is a well-written historical romance by one of the sub-genre's top writers, Jessica Sterling. The novel is charming due to several intriguing sub-plots that add depth while neatly tying into the main story line. The three prime characters and the support cast add much local flavor to an already superb tale. The esteemed Ms. Sterling has created a pure gold experience for the historical romance audience.
