Clarity and Insight
I am thoroughly enjoying this book for it's insightful look at a fascinating filmmaker. It not only gives a history of the artist, it goes through his major works to date giving clear-thinking and well-researched ideas for the reader to consider. I am particularly interested in the sections on Wings of Desire because it provides a viewpoint I haven't found in any other sources on this subject -- referring to the many Biblical and Biblical contrasts in the film. Overall, I would highly recommend the book to anyone who desires a more in depth analysis of his works and not simply a film review.

Useful travel companion
We have travelled through Sri Lanka this spring. The guidebook proved to be very accurate and useful in organizing our trip and in assisting us for the different visits. Its practical tips are very true and the historical background is concentrated, without flooding you with too much information. I can highly recommend the guidebook.

Great starting point for radiology residents
Following the quality standard set by the Radiology Requisites Series, this revised version of the original publication presents the radiographic evaluation of the gastrointestinal system in a time-efficient, yet comprehensive manner. It certainly prepares the groundwork for more detailed texts. The book is divided in eight chapters of moderate length and plenty of images to help solidify concepts. Although gastrointestinal radiology may not be one of the most sought out themes by the radiology residents, this book makes it an enjoyable experience.

Guidebook to Pecten Shells

Guide to Pecten Shells
Sumptiously illustrated, expensive paper and detailed.
However a little more on how to identify would be nice as would an idiot's guide to the commonest species. A beginner would find it a real slog trying to identify a single shell they had picked up with only this book as a guide.

Comparative Religion from a Traditional Stance
"The Human Condition" is one of three volumes from the three year long project run mainly by the Boston University School of Theology called the Comparative Religious Ideas Project (CRIP). The idea was to get together a group of scholars, one representing each major religious tradition (but not of that tradition him/herself), plus a group of "comparativist" scholars, to meet regularly and discuss three main topics: the human condition, ultimate realities, and religious truth. Volumes then emerged on each topic.

The religions covered are: Chinese Religion, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism. Most of the scholars are from the faculty of Boston University (School of Theology and Department of Religion).

This volume contains a well written foreword by Peter Berger, who talks about globalisation and pluralism. There follows an introduction by Robert Neville, who chaired the project. Then individual chapters follow, one each per world religion, in which the relevant scholar tries to analyze how that religion (based mainly on its texts) has viewed the human condition. The volume ends with chapters trying to draw out some comparisons.

This volume will be of use to people interested in comparative religion. It will not be enjoyed, perhaps, by those who disagree with its methodology. For example, as the title of the project suggests, the study confines itself to "ideas", not practises. It therefore lacks something in the way of anthropological and historical approaches. It does not take into account more recent approaches such as narrative theology. And the compressed nature of the chapters means that much of the complexity and polyvocality present in any major religious tradition disappears (an understandable problem if one tries to answer "How does Islam / Christianity / etc. view the human condition" in 30 pages).

The book ends with a section on selected works for further reading.

Intellectual Property in the New Technological Age
This book is an excellent text dealing with multiple aspects of American intellectual property law. As a Canadian law student I found its approach of using first principles to introduce readers to the basics of intellectual property law very useful. From the first principles of copywright, trademark and patent law the book proceeds to give an insightful exposition of the developments of each of these areas of law in response to recent developments in the sciences. While some attention is paid to biotechnology in the patent section of the book, most of the work focusses on the impact of developments in intellectual property law as a result of information technology. Not only is this book timely but it also gives a very in depth analysis of these timely issues that I have not come across in other texts on the subject. I have just completed my LL.B at an excellent Canadian Law school. I specialised almost entirely in intellectual property law and found this to be my favourite text. Not just amongst my IP courses but amongst all the courses that it was my pleasure to take. If you are interested in IP and you want an understanding of it based Utilitarian first principles this book is an excellent resourse.

The Man Behind the Bomb
For those interested in the history of the atomic bomb, I strongly recommend this book. After reading Richard Rhodes' "The Making of the Atomic Bomb", I was curious to read more about Oppenheimer and this book satisfied that yen.

Goodchild's book is relatively thorough and moves quickly. I think his view of Oppenheimer is generally sympathetic and he does a nice job of showing how Oppenheimer managed the a-bomb project and kept abreast of each development in a number of then ground-breaking scientific achievements. And in a People Magazine fashion, the information about the various egos involved also made for interesting reading. This book was written for the layperson. The amount of technical information presented is limited and well-presented.

It would have been nice to have just a little more detail on the Oppenheimer trial, but was there was well-done.

The Satellite Solution
William H. Mott IV takes us into the world of Satellite communications with an effective, business-like approach; so don't expect to be taken away by beautiful language, however, Mr. Mott IV gets the job done in any case.

The reader is given a slam-dunk course in Satellites 101 going through the types of satellite, stakeholders, national powers in the space, applications, economics, challenges, developments, and provides some foresight. But do not expect to find out what satellite service you should be investing in; that is not the purpose of this book.

If you have in interest in learning more about satellite technology and want to learn about how it might solve some of communication's problems, you will find it in this book.

The Ultimate summary of Packet Communications
This book is a great introduction into what will be the wireless data communication protocol of the future - GPRS. I recommend any one working in the field or looking at starting out grab a copy of this book for reference now and in the future. I just started working in the field myself and found it a great start to the complications of protocols.

Very good "back to basics" book!!
Mr. Gail and Emma byler have done a fine job helping us remember all those skills that our grandparents grew up with. Today, with everything brought to us at a supermarket, we have lost much of the knowledge that was common sense years ago. This book lets us in on some of that knowledge that has been forgotten in this fast paced world of today!!
