Swine Offal Stew
The works in this book are so bad, so graceless, so blocky and so stilted that they appear to have been cobbled together by a blind carpenter. Make that a blind apprentice carpenter, for Mr. Baraka has never progressed beyond the hate Whitey, hate Jews, hate Christians, hate America screeds of his youth. That this man is taken seriously by the literary establishment is a tribute to nothing less than political correctness run amok.

An amazing man!
Buy this book. It's that simple. This book provides the reader with a developmental history of one of the greatest LIVING revolutionary minds this country has ever produced. He hits you in the heart without bashing you over the head. You may not agree with everything he says, or how he may have lived portions of his life, but you will be affected (in some capacity) by his wit, intelligence and the fierceness of his conventions. A must for anyone who thinks that they are " a radical" or "an activist."

This book is rated UR and may not be suitable for un-realistic audiences.

This is a must read for all humanity
Simply put, his work is life changing.

Amiri Baraka is part of a rare breed of humanity that challenges us to continuously change, evolve, and morph into all that we are destined to be.

Read his work and you will not leave the same way you entered.

Board book best for the 3 and under crowd.
This is a cute board book that is appropriate for the toddler set. If your child is at all familiar with the characters of the Pokemon video series, he or she may be disappointed: "Bulbasaur's troubles" does not follow the story line of the series at all, rather, it tells a very simple story involving Bulbasaur. Probably a perfect book for a little sibling of a Pokemon crazed kid!

Very cute
This is a very cute book that stars Bulbasaur. A boy and agirl want to use their money to buy something, but they each wantsomething different. The girl wants to buy a tulip, and the boy wants to buy a frog. Then, they find a Bulbasaur, which they think will solve all their problems. After all, Bulbasaur looks like a frog with a tulip on it's back. However, the boy tries to feed Bulbasaur flies, but Bulbasaur doesn't like flies. The girl tries to water the bulb on Bulbasaur's back, but the water's too cold(Not only that, Bulbasaur's bulb won't sprout until it evolves into Ivysaur, but the girl obviously didn't know that.). Finally, Bulbasaur has to go out into the forest and find a real frog and tulip to give to the boy and girl. This book teaches kids to use creativity to solve problems, which is why I'd recommend it to kids.

Christ in the Camp

Religion in the Army of Northern Virginia
Christ in the Camp, written by one of the regimental ministers of the Army's second corps came to my attention while reading Douglas Southhall Freeman's four volume epic Robert E. Lee. Dr. Freeman quoted excerpts from this book repeatedly. I ordered it from Amazon.com and it arrived within about a week. Initially, reading the book was interesting. The Reverend Dr. Jones disclosed little emphasized facts about the religious practices of Robert E. Lee, "Stonewall" Jackson and a host of other fairly recognizable southern military leaders. Most of this disclosure was in the form of letters, either written by the Generals or written by fellow ministers about the famous men. After covering the general staff officers the author began to recount the religious lives and deaths of some not so recognizable historical figures. While these were of some interest, mainly due to the dramatic way in which they were presented, these stories aren't ones that create a great deal of enlightenment. One of the areas that I thought would be of value to a Civil War buff like myself turned out to be the most disappointing part of the book. That is the religious revivals that spread through the southern camps along the Rappahanock and Rapidan Rivers in the winters of 1863 and 1864. What I got instead of something I could really sink my teeth into was a littany of repetative ministirial jargon with no hard cold facts to speak of. Although these letters did mention the brigades, individual names were left out on purpose, such as Colonel _____ of _______, Georgia. Almost all the letters spoke of the soldiers desire to be saved and how many each minister was responsible for baptizing. Unfortunately, this section made up about one-third of the book. But, just as I was about ready to give up on the rest of the book Dr. Jones' last chapter was what I was looking for. He spoke of the job of the coleporters during the war. Coleporters were people who distributed religious material to the soldiers, especially in the form of tracts. The last chapter in the book included a tract called the Soldier's Bible. It was very well written and if someone could get a hold of some of the other tracts Dr. Jones mentions I'm sure it would make a great study. Overall, the book was a primary source about a topic that doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. The lives and deaths of these men were greatly influenced by their religious zeal. I recommend reading this book for anyone who is truely interested in this period of history. --- Carl Hill

Great Civil War religious book
First, I was surprised to find this book on line. My version is one of the original printed books, which sells for $150.00. ( this book is a real bargain at this price!)

J.W. Jones was a Chaplain who knew Lee, Jackson, Gordon and others very well. Jones meet with them, prayed with them, and of course was with them in the Army of Northern Virginia.

This is not a "WAR" of "BATTLE" book, but exemplifies the religious character of the aforementioned people. On this basis, I have to give it five stars.

As a book that touches your heart, with the feeling of those men that served in the ANV, I also give it the maximum of five stars.

I would like to quote just one page---

"Christ in the Camp" by J. William Jones D.D. page 50, Sprinkle Publications.1886

Feb 1864, Chaplains, Rev. J.W. Jones and Rev. B.T. Lacy, visited Lee along the Rapidan as a committee of the Chaplains Association.
After the meeting their were about to leave Lee's tent when Mr. Lacy said,
----" I think it right that I should say to you, General, that the chaplains of the army have a deep interest in your welfare and that some of the most fervent prayers we offer are in your behalf."
The old hero's face flushed, tears started in his eyes, and he
replied with choked utterance:
"Please thank them Sir,---I warmly appreciate it. And I can only say that I am nothing but a poor sinner trusting in Christ alone for salvation, and need all of the prayers they can offer me."

There are many pages of similar content.
This book sits in a place of Honor in my Library.

Good Collection of Tales and Interesting Historical Document
This is a collection of dozens of folktales culled from the Gullah tradition. They are mostly from the mid to later part of the 19th century from the coastal lowlands area of Georgia. The hundred + year-old tales are transcribed in a dialect, but they shouldn't be considered authentic renditions of the Gullah creolized language. The book has a great introduction that explains how Jones came to compile the work and write other books on a range of subjects. The dialect of the stories take a while to understand, but the glossary at the end of the book helps explain unfamiliar words. The stories are really good ones, and it is great to see this important book in print.

Gullah Folktales of the Georgia Coast
A must for study of the Gullah culture of the Southern Atlantic states. It is wonderful that the University of Georgia press reprinted Jones's 1888 collection.

The "Clean-up Hitter" of Veterinary Anesthesia books
This book is the single most thorough anesthesia book available for veterinary medicine. It covers specifics for almost every single species, including exotics and zoo species. It is quite wordy and not a brief reference if you just want a "quick fix" answer, but the explanations are excellent and this is THE resource to reach for with anesthesia questions...

The Definitive Text -The Gold Standard - of Vet Anesthesia
Too detailed for the lay reader or the clinician looking for quick recommendations.

Excellent review coverage of pain, analgesia, monitoring, and anesthesia in general.

Detailed coverage of agent classes and anesthetic considerations by species.

I have many anesthesia books (both veterinary and human) on my shelf - but none better.

Reaching the unreached
Having read William Jones' book, and disagreeing with his desire to have a state religion, my immediate reaction to his tough talk was to forget it and move on to other work. However, nudged by the voice of God within, I realized some of the reasons I was critical of his writing were the very strength of the book. From his years in the Navy, and as a Los Angeles police detective, he knows the uneducated language the tough juveniles learn as they grow up in the alleys of big cities. If Jones' grammar isn't perfect, spelling may slip, forget it, the important thing he does know is how to talk the rough language of the street and prisons. These people, who desperately need to know God, will have no trouble understanding what William Jones is saying to them. I suspect many of the pastors I have known in my forty years of ministry would envy this author's ability to communicate with individuals who too often are considered beyond hope. Furthermore, Jones knows his Bible. In his brief book he has included many of the most inspiring passages from both the Old and New Testaments. His book, And There Were Only Ten, is bound to reach and bless many souls who were thought to be hopelessly lost. Amen, Brother Jones

Andersonville Giving Up the Ghost: Diaries & Recollections of the Prisoners.
Published in Paperback by Belle Grove Pub Co (1996)
Authors: William Styple, Nancy Styple, Jack Fitzpatrick, Bill Dekker, and Bruce Jones
Amazon base price: $16.95

Haunting voices of Union POWs speak through this collection.
The darker aspects of the Civil War emerge from this collection of journal entries, letters, and passages by Union prisoners at Andersonville, a few of the latter pieces written subsequent to their release from incarceration. The common soldiers' accounts are well-illustrated (with photos of the writers and prison, as well as other relevant engravings) and their silent utterances graphically depict the inhumane conditions under which thousands of weary souls suffered, many who literally "gave up the ghost." Delving into this book, the voices of the P.O.W.s seem to speak to you from beyond the grave. Haunting and memorable, their powerful words make this collection worth the reader's experience to better understand and appreciate the trials that these brave men endured in their daily battle for survival.

Basic First Aid for Horses
I thought that this book was very helpful and I always keep it around the barn so I'll almost always know what to do if something happens to my pony. I can't give it five stars because there is no perfect first aid book(for horses).
