And the Wisdom to Know the Difference, Conversations with Residents of San Francisco, Paris, and Minsk
Published in Paperback by World Heritage Press (1998)
Authors: Francis McCollum Feeley, Tatiana Baklanova-Feeley, and Theodore Zeldin
Amazon base price: $19.95

a book of great value
In this book, which is based on 63 dialogues with residents of Paris, San Francisco, and Minsk, Belorus, Francis Feeley has given us remarkable descriptions of ordinary people and events in three cities. This comparative study of urban life ( enfanced by revealing photographs of the people interviewed ) is recommended reading not only for students of French society, of which we are a part, but for students of western societies in general, where similarities and differences are not well-defined in the minds of many. In today's context of " globalization", this book might well remain a essential text for analysing the evolution of convergences and disintigrations of social units in western societies, especially in the three urban centers represented in this book.

AN EXTRAORDINARY BOOK ABOUT DAILY LIFE IN THREE CITIES
This book is a comparative study of daily life in three historic cities. Students of sociology, anthropology, and comparative social history will benefit from reading these first-person accounts of individual aspirations, disappointments, and triumphs.

The cultural differences between the French, the residents of the former Soviet Union, and the Californians are interesting, but what these great people share in common and their attitudes facing daily life are valuable reminders of why we have survived as a species.

Appaloosa's Through Time
Written by one of the founding fathers of the Appaloosa Breed, this book provides a great historical narrative of this colorful American breed. Illustrated with marvelous color prints, it recounts the travels of Appaloosas across the world from early times to the present. A must for any Appaloosa fancier!

Perfect for appaloosa lovers!
A magnificent book, full of gorgeous full color photos of ancient and modern artwork depicting the appaloosa. This book is also a well-written history of the evolution of the appaloosa and the attitudes towards the color. For example, did you know that spotted Lippizans and Lusitanos used to be prized and not prohibited? Highly recommend for those who love spotted horses!

Applied Finite Element Analysis for Engineers

One step at a time
The author has done a great job of developing the finite element method one step at a time, starting with a review of basic matrix algebra. I was able to self-study this book over the period of four months and I have definitely benefited from the experience. I am much more knowledgable about the tasks I perform in my job as a result of studying this book.

Pedagogy good for a difficult subject.
This book is more suitable for self study than most other books on finite elements. I say this after having tried to work with a considerable number of them.

Excellent Insider's View
This is Chuck Scanlon's second book about the Defense Attache Service. For anyone who has had a background in military intelligence and/or attache activities, his books furnish not only substantial nostalgia, but real page-turner excitement. I could not help but chuckle at the reference to the "Goat Farm" and his discussion of Sinop--and some of the subtle twists in names--just who is Ed Royster? Scanlon combines his extensive background with an excellent historical story line, drops in some romance and intrigue, to produce a story somewhat along the lines of an W.E.B. Griffin novel. Attaches II is a good read, excellent entertainment and an outstanding overview of the various real world interrelationships within the intelligence community. I look forward to Chuck Scanlon's next novel.

Great thriller
This book is a create way of showing a what if in Terrorism. The unique characters and personalities. The author was a wizard at his work and knows his subject. I look forward to seeing another book on the Attaches and hope he will continue writting. I would suggest this book to anyone with an intrest in foreign affairs.

Automatic Control Engineering
Published in Hardcover by Mcgraw Hill (01 January, 1961)
Author: Francis H Raven
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

This is an excellent text for an understanding of controls
The book is clearly written. The developmental approach and lucid style of the text reinforces the readers confidence and understanding at every stage. The text is a motivator for acquiring and applying the tools of controls engineering.

This book is one of the greatest ever written.
This is the best controls book for engineers who are first learning controls. The author has a great step-by-step approach that really simplifies controls for the average student and makes a very complicated subject much easier to learn. The pictures are great too! Especially Figure 1.2!

Back to Freedom and Dignity
Published in Paperback by Intervarsity Press (1985)
Author: Francis A. Schaeffer
Amazon base price: $2.25
Used price: $3.69
Average review score:

Back to the Old Princeton Theology
Perfect example of Schaeffer's botched attempt at dialogue with contemporary culture.

He holds up B.F. Skinner's BEYOND FREEDOM AND DIGINITY as the result of what secular humanism leads to and pleads for a return to the good old-fashioned certainties of the Old Princeton brand of Calvinism he learned from his mentor Carl MacIntyre.

Toward the end, he mentions how the (then) newly released film "A Clockwork Orange" will serve to promote acceptance of Behavior Modification. How anyone with an ounch of irony could think that Burgess or Kubrick were trying to promote Behaviorism is beyond me, but then we *are* talking about Schaeffer.

Poor Francis, so concerned with fighting heresy, he couldn't even recognize occasional agreement.

A Christian Answer to Skinner's Work.
As many of Schaeffer's works are, Back to Freedom and Dignity is not "armchair" reading. This is a scholarly pamphlet for serious students of human thought. Using his impeccable organization and logic, Schaeffer includes and analyzes many quotes from Skinner's work and from other modern thinkers and artists. I suggest it for anyone interested in modern philosophy and for every single English teacher or professor.

I Would Not Mind Making A Bargain With A Modern Day Thorne!
I really, really, really absolutely loved this book. It has to be up there with the best ever written, of course I am bias because Ms Ray is a favorite of mine. Alex and Thorne have a love that was truly made in heaven. I loved Alex's character, she was the extremely independent type, Thorne had no choice but to fall in love with her. Of course, back in that time women were seen and not heard. That did not apply to Alexandria Carstairs, Thorne did have a time with her but some people don't change. Well I do not what to ruin the story for you. Please, please, please try and find a copy of this book, you will not be disappointed! ... This is a must read book! Much, much, much love to Ms Ray!

Another "Two Thunbs Up" for Francis Ray. Very entertaining.
Ms. Ray first captured my attention with her arabesque novel Forever Yours. Since then, I have read everything that I could get my hands on that Ms. Ray has published. The Bargain, unlike any of her previous works offers readers a beautiful historical love story complete with intrigue and suspense. A must read! And I promise you won't be disappointed.

The All Seeing Eye of Blue Note Records
This is the finest collection of Jazz Photography ever assembled! If you're a fan of jazz, or Blue Note Records, you must own this book. As a co-owner of Blue Note, Francis Wolff had the opportunity to arrest time with his lens while the titans of jazz created quintessential music. All the faces you would expect are here, Thelonious Monk, Miles, Coltrane, etc. Yet so are others whose names have been unfairly excluded from the roster of jazz immortals, men like Hank Mobley, Sonny Clark, Lee Morgan and many more. This collection is tastefully assembled, carefully balancing a trove of color and black & white prints with aesthetic perfection. Its 176 pages are bursting with images that inebriate the eyes; many are published here for the first time. Along the way, written snapshots built on the visual perspective. You can hear the music pouring from these images. You can feel the excitement of it's genesis. The musicians were comfortable with Wolff and his lens. He captured their essence in a way that no other could. Pick this up before it goes out of print.

Phantastic photography!
Even if you haven't heard the name Francis Wolff before you have probably seen many of his photos already. They can be found on many Blue Note albums. Some of them also became classics on their own. Francis Wolff is the co-founder of the Blue Note record label. Before becoming a full-time producer by the end of the Sixties, he spent a lot of his time taking photos of the artists while they were recording. All these photos are taken with a sort of simple equipment (just a camera and one flash) without posing. The photos were taken while the musicians were playing or composing of resting. There is an enormous depth and clarity in the pictures and you can nearly sense the personalities of the musicians. This collection of Wolff's photography is a must for every fan of classical photography and, of course, it's a must for die-hard Blue Note fans.

beutiful
Let his images draw you to have deeper communion with the God of creation. Also, learn about st. francis and his life. This book is the essence of francisican life in a theology.

A fascinating and enlightening guide to God.
This book comprises much of the great Saints works, and gives readers a glimpse at the different topics the Saint dealt with. I found the Tree Of Life section very deep and mystical, and explains how to have an intimate prayer relationship to God. Excellent overall book.
