An excellent, readable reference
I have started reading a lot of historical fiction and nonfiction, and have found Haywood's Altas to be very useful. It works well as an introduction, being quite readable and succinct. In addition, it is an excellent reference to use when reading nonfiction tombs that presume we all know where all the Hittites came from, or how the Illyrians migrated to Italy. Just easily finding Zhou, or Thrace on a map has been a big help for me. A good atlas, well worth the reasonably price.

How to Make a Book: An Illustrated Guide to Making Books by Hand

...a marvelous book...
This is a marvelous book, of potential interest to writers, small press and self-publishers, teachers, students, artists, or anyone who has an interest in cheap, effective methods for putting together books by hand. Barrett learned how to put books together through years of trial and error, and provides for the reader all of his hard-learned lessons and hints. He departs from standard hand sewing methods in several respects; always in the direction of practicality, minimizing costs and maximizing production. This is not a guide to making fine press books; there is no information included on purchasing and working with decorative papers, sewing headbands, fine press layout and format, inclusion of silk markers, decorative typefaces, etc. Instead, it is a hands-on guide describing how to put books together with the simplest methods and tools. Almost anyone would already have in their home most of the tools and supplies his method requires.. Of most interest to me were the first five chapters, wherein Barrett discusses physically building the book. Subsequent chapters include information on copyrighting, publicity, pricing, etc. The author is personable; throughout he shares his bookmaking philosophies, which sometimes carry over into philosophies of life. For that reason--the chance you have to hear from a craftsman in his own words--I recommend the later chapters, though if one is serious about marketing and publicity, one should go to John Kremer's "1001 Ways to Market Your Books" and "Book Publishing Resource Guide"; or the old standby, "The Self-Publisher's Manual" by self-publishing guru Dan Poynter. "How to Make a Book" belongs on the shelf with Merritt Clifton's "The Samisdat Method" as an invaluable resource to small publishers and would provide a wonderful compliment to existing how-to books such as Poynter's "Publishing Short-Run Books," A.W. Lewis' "Basic Bookbinding" or Pauline Johnson's "Creative Bookbinding." Highly recommended. -- C. Darren Butler -- Writer's Keeper--PYX Pres

Zone System Rethought
I used this book years ago to set up my Zone System procedures, and it worked great. It's for those photographers a bit overwhelmed by "Beyond the Zone System", but still want authentic Zone System results.

amazing artistic book
This book definitely could not be a best seller as popular fictions, but it's good for all artists---if you were an architect, painter, or poet...you'll love it. It birngs together poems, prose and painting in a way that will delight, surprise and enthuse all of us. I am happy to find this book from Amazon. Two years ago, I bought a book "Graham Green Country" which is the travelling sketchbook of Paul Hogarth, I found Hogarth is a wonderful watecolour artist, I like his painting with exceptionally free style but sometimes with very neat details. So, I traced his illustrated book " In praise of Churches", in which, his 80 water colour paintings are so impressive , vivid and delight. The author John Betjeman is famous in poem and prose. I am surprised that he is also so keen on architecture. Don't be boring about the old churches, ---in this book, it's all concerning the churches of 500 years ago---the author's life was infused by deep and very personal love of the churches. he said " I know no greater pleaseure than church crawling" ----when we are reading his note and illustrations, we will feel great fun and enjoyment and following his crawling. sometimes about the details of churches, sometimes you can find the wonderful prose, verse, poems and hymns. I particularly like the author's notes on the architectural side of churches. First, he can vision the environment, the stone paving, the church yard, the graves,...and then about the detail artistic fittings such as door knocker, stonework, the gargoyles, altar, doorhinges, the bell, the sun dial, the lectem, the calligraphy.... even the notice board!!---all those, with Hogarth's fascinating paintings! When you are entering the church, please don't forget to find out are there any artwork of your church?.....please enjoy the peaceful life with art.

A must for knowledge workers!
This book should be 'the bible' for everyone involved in knowledge management processes. Holland, as one of the complexity theory founders, decribes the essentials of how complex adaptive rules, in relation to the variability of the environment, determine knowledge dynamics and learning capabilities.
Key message of the book is the way that processes of induction, both cognitive and subcognitive, determine rule making, rule adaptation and environment modeling.
With this work Holland (et al.) was the first to close the gap between cognition, complex adaptive systems and knowledge processing. He also provides a sound computational base for the theories presented, opening possibilities for implementation of 'the induction theory' in real world applications.

Must Read Book!!
Being a health care executive, I feel I am fairly qualified to write a review on health care books. This book was very impressive, and I especially liked hearing what other executives of health care companies think about the future of the industry. I have read too many business books by unknown authors-this was finally one with some insight from people in industry. I highly recommend this book to any one interested in health care or in the health care industry.

THE BOOK on Wireless
We have been trying to decide on some of the best wireless initiatives for our company for quite some time. This book was incredibly useful in understanding where some of the industry leaders see the future going. I especially liked the chapter written by the CEO of AT&T Wireless. This book is a must have for anyone interest in wireless opportunities or in the wireless industry.
