touchingly beautiful
Love at first sight is the only way that I can describe what I felt when I first opened the pages of this book. My daughter was given it for her second birthday (there is no child too young to enjoy the illustrations) and for her it was love at first sight as well. She turns the pages and says, "beautiful book, beautiful book" over and over again. This is the only book in her extensive collection that she has quite this response to. The illustrations are radiant, magical, mystical, whimsical, richly colorful and have a golden aura of childhood that immediately sweeps me back to when I was a three years old exploring my grandmothers sun splashed garden. The story is a simple one about friendship with the illustrations portraying a world where the sun rose and was a 'rose', where the little girls friend is pulled in a carriage by a golden lion, where they spend a peaceful magical day together painting rainbows and sharing with one another. As the sun sets the magical day must end and the girls part, but there is a promise of togetherness again. The story is gentle and soft and is a wonderful book to read to your child before bed. Sweet dreams are sure to follow. I love this book so much that I did a search by author for all the books by Barbara Helen Berger...and I bought them all. No kidding. I have to say that this author is a gift from heaven for every child.

My favorite children's book
This is a beautiful book in all respects. Like other Barbara Helen Berger books, it is poignant, lovely and soothing. Ms. Berger is able to capture a wonderful calm that is rare and magical.

cuts to the soul
Babara Helen Berger is the greatest sort of artist. Her pictures paint themselves into the reader's imagination. Her words are few, often spare, but they say so much with so little. Combined, they make tales that cut to the soul.

The beauty of "When the Sun Rose" is heart-rending. A friend who arrives in a golden carriage drawn by a Lion that shines like the sun; this Lion of Surpassing Beauty feeds on blueberries and cream; golden roses leaving something of the friend's presence at the end of day. "When the Sun Rose" is beautiful...a wonderful hymn to imagination and all that lies within as well as beyond us.

I recommend this book. Get a copy today.

This book conects the dots bwteen the web and Real Estate
I have seen no other book devoted to the internet and real estate. This book is loaded with good information on setting up a web site for your real estate interests or business. The book is written that even a person unfamilar with the technical aspects of the internet can benefit from this book. This book written in 2001 is up to date in the ever changing world of the internet. There are tons of web sites listed in the book, which if that was all there was in this book would be valuable. Ideas on the content of your web site is provided, as well as a chapter on email. Conventions with email, and even email etiquette. Anybody involved in real estate, whether an agent, broker, investor, or an individual buyer and seller of real estate will want to read this book. And don't forget about landlords and property manager, who should also have a web site. One advice given in the book is that everywhere that your phone number is printed so should your email address. I would only add to that also your web site URL.

Worth it's weight in gold!
If you have a web site or are thinking of owning one, you NEED a copy of this book. It is the most comprehensive book on Internet marketing I have ever seen and answers nearly every question you could have about how to promote yourself successfully online. If you're like me, I suspect that you have very little time to devote to figuring the Internet out on your own. "Internet Marketing in Real Estate" is a complete guideline on how to integrate the Internet into your business easily, Internet saavy or not. Highly recommended.

A Must Have!!!
This book is a necessity for any Real Estate agent who wishes to keep up with the new millennium of home buying. As a recent buyer, the first place I went to was not the paper, a flyer, or the road - it was the Internet. This book will take the reader step by step through the ins and outs of Internet marketing. It not only provides the necessary information to establish a web presence, it gives detailed instructions on how to maintain that presence and make it flourish. I found the book extremely easy to understand and felt educated enough after reading it to take action. I would highly recommend this to every Realtor! This book will help you to get a technological edge above the rest!

What a hoot!
Junie B. Jones is a mischievous little girl who is learning the lessons of life. Our family has enjoyed each book in this series. We can't wait to see what she's up to next. The Junie B. Jones series is a great first chapter book series for beginning readers. My children have sometimes balked at reading time, but when it's a Junie B. Jones book, they read it from cover to cover without stopping. In this book, Junie B. is finally graduating from kindergarten. The lessons learned in this book are obedience...the consequence of not obeying, and also friendship and loyalty. The children are given white graduation caps and gowns and told not to play in them. Junie B.'s mother even puts hers on top of the refrigerator so Junie B. cannot play with them. Of course, a mischievous little girl such as Junie B. cannot help herself and devises a way to get the gown down. The gown becomes soiled and Junie B. must find a way to cover it up. I thought it was a great book, though I think she kind of got of the hook this time. I took the book to school and read it to the second graders there. They loved it too. They think Junie B. Jones is a hoot!

One of the Funniest Books in the World!
This book was about how Junie B. (Don't forget the B!) was getting ready for graduation from Kindergarten. ...And she got popular because she accidentally got purple drops on her cap and gown, so everyone else drew colored polka dots on their gowns.

I liked this because Junie B. is very funny. I liked this book as much as "Junie B and the Stinky Smelly Bus" and I think other kids would like to read it too.

Mom's Note: "This was the first Junie B. book that I have read with my daughter (she read another one in school) and it was absolutely adorable. Ms. Park captures the essence of a kindergartener by telling the story in the first-person, from little Junie B's perspective and she does a wonderful job. It really sounds like a Kindergartener is telling the story, which makes it all the more enjoyable. I'm looking forward to reading more of these with my daughter!"

A Funny Story, Very Realistic!
When a mishap (that only Junie B. would be capable of) threatens to ruin the hilarious character's kindergarten graduation, Junie B. knows just how to handle it! If only she knew she could be making it even worse...
Junie B. just can't resist wearing her new white graduation grown for her stuffed animals! Then she gets thirsty and pours herself and her toys some grape juice. When her stuffed animals don't exactly swallow it, things go wrong... And her graduation gown could be ruined! Junie B. knows how to fix it, though!
Enjoy this hilarious story!

GREAT!!!
This book is really great! I myself am a Catholic and there are many holy cards with very beautiful pictures and maybe prayers on the back...I loved those, and this book is exactly like those cards, really beautiful drawings and prayers but with something more!

The authors did a great job. They did not simply collect these powerful prayers and compile them in this book. They wrote very well on each of saints, angels, each of the different faces of the Madonna and the Divine.

Besides the prayers the stories are great and inspirational too. I think every Catholic should have this and even if you're not a Catholic it's great too, inspirational and provides some comfort for those in grief too, especially The Mother of Sorrows. As the authors wrote(or typed): "The saints are there to help you."--From the introduction.

An excellent inspiration for those who seek deeper prayer
This concise, yet varied collection of Novena prayers provides the reader with an opportunity for spiritual growth through the unique prayer experience of devotional petitions. With an open mind and sincere heart even the curious will experience a change in prayer life that goes beyond the specific Novena selected. The authors have presented a succint volume to be treasured, with beautiful illustrations and clear instructions. This book can be the beginning of a powerful and personal relationship with God through prayer.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BOOK!!!
I am 10 years old. I was looking around a Book store when I saw this beautiful book. I read it with my mom, we found it extremely interesting and amazing. We bought it and we love it. I have learned a lot from this book. This book is very interesting. It is very spiritual. My favorite chapter is about Saint Michael the Archangel. There are 36 Saints, angels and prayers to the madonna. Great job on the book.

A Treasury of Knitting Patterns
Published in Paperback by Schoolhouse Pr (1998)
Author: Barbara G. Walker
Amazon base price: $30.00
Collectible price: $55.50
Average review score:

ESSENTIAL knitting resource!
This book is an absolute treasure for the knitter. It is clearly written, well illustrated, contains interesting historical notes, and is easy to follow. The first sweater I made using some of these patterns won a blue ribbon! (I used the prize money towards buying her First Treasury of Knitting Stitches) She gave me the courage to design my own knits. Get this book before it goes out of print again!

One-stop knitting
This book is one of two you should own if you knit (the other being the Second Treasury). I own a number of knitting books, including Mary Phillips' and Elizabeth Zimmerman's, and Walker is quite simply the best one-stop source for clear, concise, and complete knitting information, stitch patterns, and inspiration. Walker covers basic knitting tips, simple stitches, cables, Aran designs, multi-color knitting, and lace patterns from simple to complex.

Any knitter (beginner or advanced) who has designing ambitions needs this book. I agree with the reader from Oceanside; this book (and Vols II and III) should never be allowed to go out of print.

The Knitwit's Bible!
Barbara Walker first turned me on to knitting in her invaluable primer for beginners, "America's Knitting Book", now sadly out of print. Once you get past casting on and the basic knit and purl stitches, it's fun to start designing your own projects, and the "Treasury" makes this simple. It was the "Treasury" that turned me into a dyed-in-the-wool "knitwit". It's mind-blowing to think that so many hundreds of patterns are varieties of just two fundamental stitches, the knit stitch and the purl stitch. Let your imagination loose; there's no limit on what you can make. The "Treasury" is organized into basic pattern groups, starting with simple knit-purl combinations, and advancing through ribbing, color-change patterns, slip stitch, twist stitch, and many more, all the way through lace and cable stitch patterns. The directions are very clear and concise, and the photographs are excellent. Walker doesn't give instructions for making different garments in this book, but she does explain how the patterns can be adapted to making just about anything.

One of the best (for this reviewer) chapters was the one on cable stitch knitting; here Walker tells how to design and make your own original fisherman's sweater, using any number of different cable stitch patterns. It sounded like so much fun that I decided to try it, and it came out so great that I promptly made another one, this time casting on from top to bottom and knitting the sweater sideways, so all the cables run horizontal. Talk about an original! This book really lets your creative genius loose. Use it, enjoy it, and have a lot of fun.

Jake all of the sudden feels that he is the parent and his Grandpa is the kid. Jake has to sacrafice his own time just to watch his grandpa. He is embaressed to go out in public with his Grandpa. I highly recomend this book to anyone who is ready to go on an adventure of a boy with a big heart.

Graduation of Jake Moon
I had heard of Alzheimer's on the news but never read a novel about it until The Graduation of Jake Moon. When Jake's lively and heroic grandfather Skelly is diagnosed with Alzheimer's, it changes everything, though his mother says she will try to keep his life normal. At first it seems like nothing can harm Skelly, but bit by bit Jake's life is spun around, reversing the roles of grandfather and grandson. This is a read which will make you feel for those who live with Alzheimer's patients and the utter helplessness which accompanies it.

House of Many Shadows
My all time favorite Barbara Michaels novel. Although I read it many, many years ago, it's one of the few that has stayed in my memory bank. It is the one that has kept me searching through the library, used books stores and e-books lists with hopes of finding more. I've read most of her other pseudonyms as well, but this is the one that touches on most of her contemporary themes with a dash of the gothic as well. If Michaels is a new author to you, this is the one I would start with.

Another good book from Barbara Michaels
Although I read this book a long time ago I still re-read this book often. Perfect for a cold, stormy night spent under the covers. It has the perfect touch of suspence that will keep you up till you are done. It has a little romance but not enough to get in the way of the story or to overwhelm it. I loved this book I would recomend this to any suspence/mystery/romance fan.

Bravisimo!
This book was absolutely awesome. Not that anything written by Barbara Michaels would be anything less! The supernatural suspense/mystery with the touch of romance is just what i needed on a cold Michigan winter day. And, even being the paranoid mystery reader that i am, it didnt send me locking doors and checking out dark hallways! Definitely a good read in any kind of weather!!!

Lovely Me the Life of Jacqueline Susann

Informational but somewhat dissapointing
I read a lot of great reviews of this book, how it really captured the essense of Jaqueline Susann, how it had the same sort of "scandalous" feel as her novels, but I found it a somewhat dry read. Maybe I'm just a jaded reader living in a later age, but reading about her affairs with women men and her drinking and pill-popping didn't really seem that audacious to me. There definitely were a lot of interesting aspects to this book, however. The author really did a tremendous amount of research and I really felt like I knew Susann's family and friends after reading the book. The author delves into Freudian territory, surmising that Susann had a lot of issues with her father that ended up in her works. I think the part I liked best of the biography was the discussion of Susann's works and how she published them. Susann had an amazing drive to be famous and this books shows how tragic it is that she died so young before she could really enjoy her fame.

An astounding biography of an Astounding Lady...
Barbara Seaman's impressive biography of Jacqueline Susann, "Lovely Me", is, without a doubt, the BEST biography of a celebrity ever written! This book surpasses anything that Lovely Ms. Susann could ever have written by several thousand miles. After reading this amazing tome, I felt a deep respect for the creator of the "pot-boiler", and I admire her spunk and spirit, in the face of great adversity. If you are searching for a book that tells it ALL, from drug binges, extramarital affairs (both lesbian and heterosexual), rivalries, and hatred, and the indistinguishable love between Jackie and her husband, Irving Mansfield, then please, please, please, pick up this book. It just might be the best thing you'll read all year...

Reading This Bio Once is Not Enough!
God, I love this book. Not necessarily being a fan of Susann's (I've never read her novels), I found Seaman's biography to be a beautifully written, impeccably researched psychological study. The book feels like two books: first, we get the psycho-drama that was Susann's life, which is rendered with an extremely perceptive soap operatic flair; next, we get deep, deep dish on the ups and downs of the publishing world, particularly Susann's singleminded approach to selling her books...and herself. You'll be fascinated by Susann and repulsed by her. This is the *best* biography I've ever read.

My first grammar book
I am an educationist from Malaysia. I would like to share with you my experience in using this book.

My first ever contact with this book was when I was doing my English intensive preparatory course in the College of Preparatory Studies in Shah Alam Malaysia. The book was our grammar textbook for the whole six month we were there. It was given to us FOC by our sponsor, The Public Services Department. I felt that I really improved my knowledge on English grammar then. Thank you Azar for giving us this excellent book.

Now that I am an English, I am using this book as a textbook, too. I hope my students will gain a lot from it and improve their grammar as well.

My Wonderfull Book
Even thought, this has been my second grammar book, it has been helpful in many ways. But most of all with verb tenses. Since, I am not a native English Speaker, I keep it with me every time. It explain verb tenses perfectly. No other book, in 1 1/2 year studying English, has been so explicit. Now, I am buying another for my nephew. He studies ESOL, but he is not using this book. He feels he need more explanation. He likes the practices in this book; they are very complete and enough. When one finish doing those practices, one really now how to apply any rule in ones life, and the next step is practice talking.

This book is great!
This was a very useful and easy to understand grammar textbook for me when I took ESL classes in the USA. I have already recommended the book to two of my friends who are studying English on their own.

If you are poor at English grammar, this book is for you! There are lots of drills and exercises in every chapter, so you can practice writing sentences using the grammar learned and remember it.

Wet Grave

Author: Barbara Hambly

Average review score:

more Shaw please!
For those who are not familiar with the series, it is set in New Orleans in the 1830s and the mysteries revolve around a free man of color (the title of the first in the series), Benjamin January. Ben is a surgeon and a musician and makes his living in New Orleans as a piano teacher and player.
In this story, a woman (former placee) is murdered and the local police don't have time to investigate as a plantation owner has been killed. Angered by the lack of justice, Ben decides to investigate on his own.
The story is excellent. I just would like to see more of my favorite characters, Shaw, Hannibal and Olympe. I wasn't a big fan of Rose (Ben's girlfriend) but she seemed to get a little better in this episode. Also the addition of Henri's wife Chloe seems like it will be a good one.
What I particularly liked was that I didn't have to understand French or be familiar with opera or be a history buff to get it! I also didn't did to create a character reference to keep everyone straight.
On the downside, the descriptions of New Orleans and the narrative is just not as well done as in the first novel in this series.
But I love the series and can't wait for the next one.
I recommend!

Okay, I've changed my mind....
I just re-read this book, having read it for the first time last summer, and wasn't as thrilled with it then as I am now. I've changed my mind. It is truly fabulous. I still missed Hannibal, and wondered where Artois came from, but the book flows along so seamlessly, those were just minor questions in the back of my head. Hambly's world-building is wonderful, the atmosphere of place and time richly drawn, and her characters grow and change, but still remain true to themselves, right down to Livia not offering January any sugar with his tea. The book starts off fairly slowly and builds to an impressive climax, much like the hurricane described in the book. I especially enjoyed getting a closer look at Chloe St. Chinian, who marries Dominique's protector, Henri, and see if she truly was the "chill, pale girl" described in "Died Upon a Kiss," but the whole book was wonderful.

Several plot lines are tied up in this book. I only hope that doesn't mean that there won't be any more Benjamin January books, but was hearted to read on the book jacket that Ms. Hambly is working on the next one. It can't get here soon enough for me.

Each one is better
When I read the first book in her Benjamin January series, I thought the great descriptions and information about New Orleans in the 1830s made up for what I considered plot defects. Well, the descriptions are still great, and I see no plot defects now!! Each book has just gotten better. Usually, a series gets a little tired after this many books, but not so with these. I am not going to go into an analysis of the plot, which can be gotten better elsewhere. I would simply recommend this book. My biggest fear is that now that several romantic threads are tied up, Hambly may end the series. Please, no!! And while I love Benjamin, I wouldn't mind learning more about Hannibal Sefton, Abishag Shaw, or even to see a mystery from Benjamin's voodoo queen sister's point of view. That might be a lot of fun, too!! At any rate, if you want a fun read, check out this series! But start with the first book and read them all!
