Are we having fun yet? You bet!!!!!
This book is a blast. I truly enjoyed it from cover to cover. As an Astrologer living in Santa Fe, I really got a kick out of all the locations that were used here in the Southwest...And all the astrological jargon was fun for me too. I think she did a great job and here's hoping she will write another. Kudos to you, Barbara

A WELL WRITTEN, EXCITING ,SUSPENSEFUL MYSTERY
"The President's Astrologer" is a perfect summer read, although I'd recommend it for any season. It has all the ingredients that make a book hard to put down: an exciting, suspensful plot, appealing characters who make you care about them, and easy to understand information about a fascinating subject, in this case, astrology. I was sorry when it ended. My hat is off to the author. Her command of dialogue constantly made me feel that this book would make an excellent film or mini series.

Politics, Suspense, Intrigue...What more could you want?
This novel successfully crosses genres, and is filled with drama, mystery, romance & intrigue. The science fictional elements come into play only late in the story yet are integral in making all the various story lines come together. The use of astrology throughout the book is represented in terms and language that are completely accessible to the layman, yet are done with the thoroughness of one who is an expert in the field. The debate between science versus astrology is approached through the protagonist's personal relationship as well as her credibility to the public at large. And Barbara Shafferman is likely to expand a few minds along the way. This is a "must read" for all and is a fine first novel for the author. Highly Recommended.

Simple Wisdom
This book taught me the SIMPLE WISDOM of my OWN BODY. To trust what my body tells me. This is something that we are ALL BORN with but it gets beaten out of us as we grow by all of the adults in our lives saying, "this will make you fat", "that will make you fat" etc etc.

This book has helped me win my weight battle and helped me to be a better mom by allowing my kids to trust their own bodies!

Thin Within: How to Eat and Live Like A Thin Person
Thin Within: How to Eat and Live Like a Thin Person is the first and only book on the subject of weight control which worked for me. The book outlines a philosophy and program for living which does not separate the "overweight" person from the "thin" people. For the first time in my life, I have been able to consider myself to be someone who is healthy and attractively slim as a natural state of being, rather than as a result of putting forth extraordinary effort just to have the body that "normal" people have.

I am grateful to have this book to refer to on a regular basis. It has given me a kind of freedom with regard to weight control issues that I never thought would be possible. I very highly recommend it.

Simply the best!
When I first came across this unique book about 10 years ago, I was quiet desperate. I had read probably 70+ books on the topic of weight loss and was ready to give up. As I read through the pages of Thin Within I knew I had finally found the true answer to permanent weight loss. It is so simple to follow because there is no diet! It's been over 10 years now and this no-nonsense approach to losing weight and keeping it off for good has never failed me. Buy it, you won't be sorry!

We Received this book recently
We are members of the Disney Book club and that was sent to us within the last year thru them. My kids are loving it as much as I did when I was younger. :)

A great book!
I'm studying to be an elementary school teacher, and I'm planning a thematic unit on the polar regions. This book figures prominently into the lesson and I'm very upset that it's out of print! My copy is *somewhere* hiding . . . I hope I can find it. Maybe a letter to the Walt Disney company or to the book's publisher would help get it back in print?

I'm not the only one!
I was so surprised and delighted to read all the reviews from all of the adults that loved this book! This was my favorite book as a child and I still remember the words and pictures. I was looking to purchase it for my son!...DISNEY - reprint please!

The Author Speaks
Dear Readers,

This book was written to ensure that there was information available that we could relate to and understand. I"m glad to know that others are finding what they need in the book. We also invite you to join us on one of the free hematological cancer support lists at the Association of Cancer Online Resources (ACOR).

Thank you for reading and for purchasing this book. I do hope it meets your needs.

Leukemians' Bible
Whether you're the patient (like I was) or family, friend or caregiver to one, its one of the first things most people do when diagnosed with leukemia. You look for more information. You'll find lots of books about cancer. But very few specifically about adult leukemia. GrannyBarb has certainly put it all together for us. And you can benefit by as much or as little as you choose to use. There is no other book like this one. I've looked. I only wish it were written five years sooner. It would have saved this CML survivor a lot of wasted time and energy searching for factual information, authoritatively written in patient-speak--the language we need in order to understand better to recover quicker.

Adult Leukemia: A Comprehensive Guide for Patients and Famil
This is a wonderfully thorough and easily understandable book. And while lots of the information was familiar, it really helped to have so many aspects collected in one place. "Granny Barb" seems to cover all of the key areas one would want to know about leukemia.

The Bible in the World of Doll Books
This book is one no dollmaker should be without, whether you make dolls for your own pleasure, as gifts, or as a professional. The inspiration from the photos alone is amazing, but the book is also filled with wisdom on dollmaking that comes from one of the most talented dollmakers in the country.

A must have for anyone who wants to make dolls
This is a great book, it gives lots of information covering many aspects of creating a doll. I recommened all of Susan Oroyan's books for anyone interested in being creatively stimulated to explore the world of doll making. This book will get your creative juices flowing.

Susanna's books are great!
Susanna is always overflowing with great ideas, pictures, and tips. I enjoy her books emensly. She has a great style and encourages your creativity without stifling it.

Independent Women
I'm always looking for books about Africa. The fact that Ms. Bickmore has never been to Africa was an initial turn-off. It's strange to me that she didn't travel there before using it as a setting for her book. So I think that her descriptions of Africa was what a well-read American would expect. From my limited travel in African (five trips to East and South Africa), I'd say she did that part pretty well.

As to the story itself, it's all about indendent women and the price they pay for that independence. Her three women all married (or committed) too young!

Read it more than once!
I've read this book several times over the last 10 years. This time, it had been packed away after a move and I hadn't seen it in quite a while. When I pulled it out of a box I was searching through for something else, I immediately sat down to read it again. I would love to pass it on to my daughter, who is 14, but I had forgotten about some of the more "romantic" scenes. Someday, though, I know she'll enjoy it as much as I have. This is just one of those books that you carry with you forever. Treat yourself to this one and you'll be glad you did.

Fabulus!!!!!!!!!!
This book is absolutely the best book I have ever read. I've read it about 5 times(both books)and I just love it. It's catching, you can't tear yourself from it until you're finished. You feel like your right there, living their lives and I cry everytime I read the sad parts. I recommend this book to everyone, read it, you won't be the same.

A must for any adult who's lost a parent
When I was 12 years old, my father died six weeks after a massive heart attack. A month ago, four days before my 34th birthday, my mother died suddenly. I'm a late-comer and my siblings are a much older than me. They have their families. I have my career. Although my religious beliefs give me peace, there is still an immense sadness. I am not yet married, my beloved will never know my wonderful parents. Any children I may have will never know their maternal grandparents. Both of my grandfathers died before I was born, so this causes me grief for what my children who aren't even born yet have lost.

This book is wonderful and helped me to understand different feelings that I've been having and let me know that these feelings are not unique.

It helped me reach a crossroads in my grief.
It is a "must read" for people who have lost a parent. I read this book in about an hour and a half. I could not put it down. It tuned in to a lot of how I was feeling after I lost my mother. After I read it, I realized some of the reasons I felt so lost. I knew I felt lost, I just couldn't explain it. The only thing I didn't like about it was it didn't spend much time addressing only children. I am an only child and most of the book spoke to people with siblings.

Excellent Grieving Tool
I wish I would have had this book before my father passed away on Feb. 1, 2002. Everyone is bound to identify with one or more stories in this book. It is comforting and not condescending at all. I plan on giving the book as gifts to the people I care about, who have not yet lost a parent.

Easy to read Intermediate C++ book
While this book came out before the ISO C++ (99) standard was finalized it still has a lot of relevant material in it. It is clearly presented, and the underlying design choices are explained and expanded on.

A word of caution, the topic on Smart pointers is interesting, but don't just copy it out, get a tested version from the C++ library "boost". Its like the string class every text seems to use, copy it, use it to learn from but don't use it in an actual project. You'll just have to go through the debugging process that everyone else has already done.

This book focuses on C++ Design and that is a hard subject to teach well. The mechanics of the language are much easier to master, the putting it all together in the correct way is what this book focuses on.

I'd also like to say that I think this book is better written than any of the C++Report articles that A.Koening wrote. My guess is that the review process is more stringent and he and B. Moo had more time to work the text over. In any case it is one of the easier to understand and read intermediate level C++ books.

Superior Read, Top 5 programming book
Nestled between 'learn in 24 hour' books, uml tomes, and vc references is a smallish, silly looking book called Ruminations on C++. At first glance you may be nervous as you find cows on the cover, but this gem is one of the best programming books I've every enjoyed. This book is targeted to the intermediate C++ programmer who has mastered syntax and basic idioms, and wants to move beyond into more complex uses. The book introduces (some may say, pounds) the concept of smart pointers, containers and iterators, templates, and function adapters in a ah-ha! enlightening kind of way. Once you understand these concepts and start employing them in your programs, you'll wonder how you could have ever written programs without them. Some readers may be bothered by the fact that the chapters are 'regurgitations' of previous articles the writer had written, but I would highly recommend that you pick this up. The treatment on the SmartPointer alone is worth the price. Buy it now!!

Insight and Experience
The book lives up to it's title. It is a must-have for any C++ programmer who claims to be an expert. The insights offerred in this book are the kind that are truly gained only after a decade of programming. If you have fallen in love with C++, this book will consummate your love.

Excellent account of Ancient Egypt
Firstly I must admit that I am not an expert on this subject. I learnt the basic stuff at High School and that's about it. My interest was sparked in Ancient Egypt after taking my daughter to watch 'The Mummy' and subsequently reading Bob Brier's book 'The Murder of Tutankhamen'.

As it has been previously noted by other reviewer's this book is somewhat dated (orginally published in 1964) but that does not detract from the wonderful narrative that the author weaves around the Pharaohs and their place in history.

The author does not get bogged down in technical details and you never lose interest in the story. She has a knack of writing about these far away times and people as if it was yesterday and draws you into her story. Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to obtain a decent overview of Ancient Egypt.

colorful egyptology
If you have ever read Barbara Mertz and Barbara Michaels or Elizabeth Peters, you already know how colorful her writing is. If she can bring fiction to life the way she does, you can only imagine what she does to non-fiction. Temples, Tombs, and hieroglyphs bring history to Egypt in the way only Ms. Mertz can!

Not the latest, but maybe the greatest.
I picked this book up in an airport when I was a teenager, and it sparked an interest in Egyptology which has lasted 30 years. Mertz is a graceful writer, deftly mixing scholarship with humor and 'human interest'. The book is not intended for Egyptologists, (Hence 'A Popular History') and bypasses, wisely in my opinion, the wrangling between experts which makes the field so frustrating to the lay reader. Honesty prevails, however; when she is stating a personal opinion, she says so. The result is a fascinating, funny and intelligent look at the ancient culture of which we know so much and understand so little.
