An Exceptional Literary Journey and Contribution
I found that no matter what topic Barbara Rose brought up in this mammoth literary contribution, it all hit home.
This book shines with truth, humility, honesty, integrity, and compassion for the masses that both rises above, and brings invigorating answers to the many problems I have faced in my own life, as well as issues that have plagued humanity for many millennia.
Her wisdom surpasses the countless self-help and spiritual books that I have read.
Parts of this book read as if you are reading the words of a great Statesman. Other parts read as if you are sitting with someone who can tap into your soul, and bring light to any pain or problem you have encountered.
As an avid reader, I would recommend this book to any person who is in an influential position, as well as to anyone who thinks they cannot make a difference for themselves, or for others.
The journey this book took me on was like no other book I have ever read. It is engaging, real, practical, and in many respects, way ahead of its time. Highly recommended as one of the most unique literary works in our time.

A Gold Mine of Wisdom ¿Triumphant!
Individual Power is one of the best books I have ever read pertaining to claiming your true self, empowering your ideals via your unique contribution in society, and utilizing your inherent spiritual connection to rise to your ideal vision of you.
Barbara Rose shares extraordinary wisdom in such a way that gets you to see who you really are, and believe in your talents. Through this book, you will surely get the courage to shine in all areas of your life.
A must read for anyone who has felt down, in any area of their life. This book is powerful, and the work of a true spiritual genius. I take this book with me wherever I go, because I find that no matter what page I turn to, a gift of wisdom, courage, and truth uplifts me like no other book I have ever read. Thank you Barbara Rose, for sharing so honestly, and powerfully! Individual Power is an outstanding contribution to humanity!

This Book Delivers! Magnificent!
In Individual Power, Barbara Rose hit home with me in so many areas, that I found myself taking a long, hard look at my life, questioning the impact my "success" has had on both myself, and in my role in society.
If you are a person who "has it all" on the outside, and simultaneously feel as if there is something missing deep within, I strongly recommend you read Individual Power.
This book has awakened me in so many areas, as it brought me answers to questions I never knew I had. It shed light on the inner void I have felt for so long, despite all outer appearances. This book is packed with brilliance, heart, sincerity, and most importantly, answers. Barbara Rose's brilliantly written spiritual contributions re-awakened my awareness of and connection to my "strongest sense of all".
If you are a leader or role model in society, this book will certainly help you take your contributions to their highest level. An absolute must read!

Math in Motion: Origami in the Classroom
Published in Spiral-bound by Crane Publishing (1994)
Author: Barbara Pearl
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

Could serious math learning really be this much fun?
When I was in elementary school I hated math. Perhaps I would have had a different experience if Barbara Pearl's Math in Motion program had been available. Fortunately for kids today, Math in Motion can help make this often-unapproachable subject fun.

Barbara Pearl uses the ancient art of Japanese origami (paper folding) to demonstrate such fundamental mathematical concepts as number sense, patterns, fractions, angles, congruence, symmetry, spatial relationships, and polygons--all potential stumbling blocks for children learning math. The beauty of this approach is that the learning is embedded in fun projects.

Ms. Pearl also relates the exercises to language arts, social studies and science. These may be the only math exercises that kids are reluctant to end.

This is not a do it yourself book for kids. It is aimed at parents who want to participate in their children's learning and at teachers who are looking for innovative and creative ideas for the classroom. The projects range from simple enough for kindergartners to challenging enough for junior high.

An intuitive understanding of basic mathematical concepts is critical for all kids entering today's technical society. Math in Motion can be an invaluable tool in helping kids make it.

Luring Father and Son into the "Fold"
Until I saw Barbara Pearl's book, my only brush with origami had been making paper airplanes and launching them out the 2nd floor window of my math class. Math was my least favorite subject, as it is for my son Benjy, a brilliant 9th grader with a blind spot for numbers, but not for their importance. We have been working hard together, and in this effort, "Math in Motion" has been a great panacea. Even though it is meant for grades K-8, Benjy delved into it with an enthusiasm previously reserved for Shakespeare comedies and Stephen King novels. What works for him is the opportunity this book offers to combine 2- and 3-dimensional thinking, explore basic and advanced concepts, and integrate mathematical and non-math subjects. What works for me is a chance to relate closely with my son in new and unexpected ways, and the rare pleasure afforded a parent in seeing his child's joy and satisfaction as his horizons widen and his understanding deepens. Among the countless guides and self-help books available in bookstores and catalogs today,"Math in Motion" is a unique, one-of-a-kind contribution.

Miss Rumphius
Miss Rumphius is about Lady, who when younger traveled all over the world just like she told her Grand-father she would. After she traveled many places she hurt her back, so she moved into a house by the sea(also like she told her Grand-father she would), she also planted Lupines(which she loves) and just lived life to the fullest. She was told that she also had to make the world more beautiful.

This is a very good story that says that the simplist things make your life and world a better place. I would recommend the book to everyone, it is a very good read.

Lynsi

Miss Rumphius
The narrator's great aunt, Alice Rumphius, wanted to travel the world and do the one thing her grandfather told her she must do. He told her she must do something to make the world more beautiful. Miss Rumphius travels the world and comes back to live by the sea where the story began. She discovered her way of making the world more beautiful was scattering flower seeds so everyone could enjoy the beauty of the colorful flowers. The story ends with Miss Rumphius telling her great-neice that she must do something to make the world more beautiful.

Teacher Notes: This book would be excellent to read if you were doing a unit on plants or the earth. Even though this book is fiction, realistic things happen like the wind and birds scattering flower seeds. Kindergarten and first grade would enjoy having this book read aloud to them. Second and third graders could read it on their own.

A book that will stay in your heart forever.
This is one of those rare picture books that is so beautiful and so wise that you ought to read it even if you donÕt have children. But if you have a child to share it with, do so immediately, and consider yourself privileged.

In this book, you watch a little girl named Alice grow into an old, old woman, a retired librarian, named Miss Rumphius. Her life is filled with exciting adventures, but as she grows older, none of it feels like enough to her. She keeps recalling some advice her grandfather gave her when she was a child. He told her that in order to live a good life, she had to "do something to make the world more beautiful." But even as an old woman, she canÕt figure out what to do. Finally, realizing the joy sheÕs always gotten from flowers, especially lupines, she decides to share that joy with others by scattering lupine seeds everywhere she goes. She completely transforms the rocky landscape around her home. In the end, she tells her story to her young niece, who wonders how SHE will make the world more beautiful. And so the cycle continues.

My daughter, who is six, has talked about this book several times, and told me she hasnÕt yet figured out how she is going to make the world more beautiful. But the fact that she is thinking about it at such a young age makes me proud, and very happy to have found this lovely book to share with her.

Remembering a book when it was funny and still is today
Amelia Bedelia was written by Peggy parish. The seriousness of these books are to funny. Amelia Bedelia is my favorite character because she is unique in many ways. She has the quality of bringing happiness to your family. I am sure these books will make you laugh because of how she acts. In the book Amelia Bedelia makes her job more difficult then it seems. But one thing I like about her is she always has a smile on her face. The qualities she has are cooking, and making sure everything gets done. This is why Amelia Bedelia is a great person and story.

A "must read" for children (hopefully with their parents)
I believe Amelia Bedelia is one of the most wonderful children books. Small wonder it has been printed and reprinted for so many years.

I was this past weekend with two boys, ages five and seven, on a car ride.

While sitting with them and trying to make conversation, I remembered the long lost book, Amelia Bedelia.

I I had read it with my own daughter, many years ago.

Even though the two boys had not read the book, I explained to them some of the things that Amelia Bedelia used to do when left alone in the house.

We spent the rest of the ride with them thinking of "other" things Amelia Bedelia would be capable of doing.

Those two young minds were working overtime trying to figure all kinds of "do as told" (literal) things that Amelia might do.

Not for a second they wondered "are we there yet?" And we all laughed and had a wonderful time.

This is why I came tonight to amazon.com to get this two little ones a copy of the book.

I know they will get many hours of entertainment reading and talking about the book.

I don't think too many children books are able to do that! And I also know that I will be back at amazon.com getting other books on the series to give to children in our family. It is a wonderful way to encourage reading and thinking.

Children today, when faced with so much television and other media, can use more of both thinking and reading.

Especially while having a great time!

Amelia Bedelia literally does everything on her list of jobs
Learning to read means learning new words and when you learn new words you need to learn what those new words mean and once you learn what words mean they should continue to mean what they mean because otherwise how would we talk to each other? Or, to quote Humpty Dumpty, "I mean what I say is not the same thing as I say what I mean." That is why "Amelia Bedelia" is such a great little story. Author Peggy Parish knows that words do not always mean what you think they should mean. So when Amelia Bedelia shows up for the first day of work and Mrs. Rogers gives her a list of things to do, Amelia Bedelia reads the list (after making a delicious lemon-meringue pie first) and does exactly what the list tells her to do. If the list says "Put the lights out when you finish in the living room," then Amedlia Bedelia carefully unscrew each light bulb and hangs them on the clothes line to air them out. Children and former children alike will laugh as Amedlia Bedlia literally goes through the list of instructions left by Mrs. Rogers. The illustrations by Fritz Siebel are almost as good as the pictures in our mind of Amelia Bedelia changing the towels in the green bathroom or dusting the furniture, plus Siebel gives the rosy-cheecked maid the same great smile on every single picture. Once you finish there book there are more literary adventures of the literal Amelia Bedelia and if you like these books then you should also check out "The King Who Rained" by Fred Gwynne and advance to the joy of homophones.

A Peaceful "Goodnight"
Every evening, Grandfather Twilight "puts down his book", takes out a pearl from the chest in his home among the trees, and begins to walk. The pearl grows bigger and bigger, trailing rosy clouds and bringing the serenity of dusk, until he lifts it up into the sky as the moon.

This book is enchanting, and was my favorite bedtime story from as far back as I can remember. The story seems to flow like the stream and the sky that trails beautifully behind Grandfather Twilight, and the illustrations are wonderful-- just peaceful, feel-like-you're-there-and-want-to-be pictures! Reading gives you the most peaceful and sleepy feeling, and helps you to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature-- one of those stories that makes you just glad to "be."

One of the two greatest "Night Night " books ever
The other great goodnight book is, of course, GOODNIGHT MOON. But this is every bit as good as that classic, although much less known. It is also one of the most extraordinarily illustrated children's books of any type.

This is also one of the very best books I know for children who have a bit of trouble going to sleep at night. It is masterful at presenting calming, peaceful, positive images of going to bed. The story is so simple that even a two-year-old can completely grasp it. Grandfather Twilight each night, accompanied by his German Shepherd, takes a single pearl out of his chest, walks to the shore, and places the pearl, which becomes the moon, in the sky. He then returns to his bed, with twilight descending upon the world, and goes to bed.

The details in the illustrations are exquisite. My daughter loved, for instance, finding the dog and the cat on each page. This remained one of our nonoptional nighttime books for at least two years. I think it will be among the favorites of any preschooler, as well as their parents. I do believe that this is among the best-illustrated books for young children ever produced.

Quintessential bedtime book
I cannot recommend this book highly enough! Both my children (ages 7 and 3) love it, and we read it often, sometimes just for a bit of a break during the day. This beautifully illustrated, almost-wordless, story of how Grandfather Twilight prepares the world for sleep is food for the soul on many levels:
1. First is the simple story of Grandfather Twilight taking a pearl from an endless strand in a magic chest, then walking to the sea where the pearl gets larger and larger and finally becomes the glowing full moon, which then hangs in the night sky and lights his way home. Grandfather Twilight lives in a house made of trees with his companions, a dog and cat.
2. What are Grandfather Twilight's other occupations? How does he spend his day? Who is, he, really? Wouldn't we like to live in a house like his? Where did he get the chest full of pearls? How does the pearl get larger and larger? These questions and more arise from the vivid, detailed illustrations.
3. The illustrations themselves warrant study. My son (age 7) and I were awed one day sitting on the porch swing when our actual twilight sky became the *exact* colors of the twilight emanating from Grandfather's beard and hair.
Get this book, you won't be disappointed!

you can't ask for more
Of all the breed books I've ever read this book on shelties is the best. I've heard from many different people that it is considered the sheltie bible. I can see why. This book is excellent for the pet owner or the serious breeder. It covers illnesses, grooming(detailed w/pictures), birthing(including how to deal with complications), selling, buying, dewclaw removal, history, conformation and breed standard, etc. If you have a question about shelties most likely you will find the answer in this book. Want to know what you will get if you breed one color of sheltie to another? It's in there.Want to know how long until your puppies are due? In there. How big will your puppy get? Try the chart for an informed guesstimate. Some of the information can be used with other breeds as well. I applaud the authors. I only wish I could find one like this for my other breed of dogs.

Shelties from top to bottom
Recommended to anyone who is interested in the breed. I don't even own a Sheltie yet and I've read most of the book. It's a wealth of information to digest, so I recommend people to get it BEFORE the dog. The only thing it doesn't do is bark! It's full of interesting information, and it spans from the history of the breed to the career (herding) dog. Breeders and pet owners alike should get this book to make the most of their dog.

The best there is!
"Sheltie Talk" is the best Sheltie book out there, in spite of it's age (1985). I keep hearing rumors that there will be an updated edition, but I haven't seen it yet. I keep hoping.
This book has more information than most people will ever need about the breed, and it's very accessible even to the novice owner. Give this one 'paws up'!

A Woman of Substance

Average review score:

i hope u read and enjoy the story

all the earlier reviews saying this novel was inspiring are true, at least i think so. i read the book in under a week and this was back in the days when i hated reading and dragged a book out for weeks on end until i finally finished it or just gave up.

i felt the book was worth every second i took to read it. it actually inspired me to give it my all for an entire day! that's something. i've read this book a few years ago, but i still remember it. one scene that still sticks in my mind was when emma and edward were in the garden and she told him she was pregnant. when she broke the news to him that she would leave, he didn't ask WHERE she was going, but WHEN she was leaving. i was like WHAT!?

Great book on "rags to riches" about /and for women.
This is the first book in a trilogy concerning Emma, her daughter, and her granddaughter. Emma went from "rags to riches" through hard work and perseverence without stepping on anyone elses toes. If you want a fast-moving, honest, down-to-earth success story, this is the one book you should read. Barbara Taylor Bradford has a great way with words and descriptions. Be sure to read the sequels to this book.

Emma Harte is a role model for all upwardly mobile females.
One of two top novels. Emma Harte is my favorite fiction character. I read this book many years ago and it still remains on the top of my list. As a young woman I was interested in climbing the road to success. Emma Harte's story was an inspiration. I identified with her obsticales, and cheered her success. Every female should read this novel.

A lifesaver
My wife's PC died and the repair place said it'd cost $225 parts and labor to replace the power supply. That seemed awfully expensive given what new PC's sell for, so I hauled it back home. On the way I got to thinking about fixing it myself, so I stopped by the mall and looked at PC hardware books. This one had more details about power supplies than the others so I bought it.

I'd never worked on a PC before and was a little nervous about opening my wife's system but I figured if I killed it it'd be no great loss. I bought a new power supply for about $50 and installed it. When I crossed my fingers and turned the system back on it started normally and has been working ever since. That means this book already saved me $150 over its cost.

Even if you're a PC novice like me this book tells you everything you need to know to fix or upgrade your system. I don't know how this book compares to other PC hardware books because I've never read any of them. But as far as I'm concerned it definitely deserves five stars.

Information-dense, error-free, and relevant
I buy a lot of PC hardware books for my job as a PC manager. Most of them are me-too knockoffs of Muellers Upgrading and Repairing PCs. This one is different. It's smaller than U&R PCs, but incredibly information-rich. The authors don't waste time and space with obsolete information. Everything here is up-to-date and reflects the real world of systems based on modern Intel and AMD processors. This book has no errors that I can find. I thought I'd found a couple, so I emailed the authors. They responded within half an hour (!) and explained things. As it turned out, what I thought were errors weren't. I'd been wrong about those things all these years. I'm ordering copies for all my technicians and recommending they read it through from start to finish. If you're looking for the best PC hardware book available, get this one.

An outstanding book on the 'innards' of a PC
This is an excellent comprehensive guide to the insides of the PC. There's a chapter on each component (motherboards, memory, processors, hard drives, CD-drives, you name it). For each component the authors describe and explain in detail what it does, how it works, how to install/config, the different types, preferred models and much other relevant info. It's very well-written, too; no time spent wondering what the authors are trying to say. I'd been looking for a book like this for quite awhile: a comprehensive PC 'innards' book done in the O'Reilly Nutshell style. I've been poking thru it almost every day since I got it. And I am SO much smarter at work... :]

After reading this book, expect miracles to happen!
Right from the beginning I was hooked and read the book in one sitting. The text and style in which this book is written moved me to tears of revelation. Easy to read and easy to follow, this book will allow you to access inner peace and joy and heavenly knowledge. Truly know the meaning of a ripple effect, I plan on sharing this book with several of my friends so that they may know and share also. My heartfelt gratitude to Trudy and Barbara for following their angels direction and sharing it.

Angelspeake
I bought Angelspeake about 4 years ago. At the time I read it but didn't think it would work for me. Little did I know by reading the 4 Fundamentals I started, with the help of my angels, to use them on a daily basis.

I now write to my angels every day and my life has taken a 180 degree turnaround. The angels love to be God's messengers and I find much comfort in talking to them daily. I thank this book and the authors for opening a new spiritual dimension to my life.

This book will change your outlook on life.
I received this book for Christmas and read it in about 1 and 1/2 hours. I couldn't put it down. This is the best book I've ever read not to mention the best present anyone gave me. The book is written in such a manner that it is easy to understand and follow for anyone. Even if you are just introducing yourself to Angels, you will pick up the tips right away. Its is amazing how excited I was about my new book and gave it to my friend right away and told her she just had to read it. She is very much in tuned with the Angel concept and has taught me more than I could have asked for. You will want to pass this on to many people after reading it.

A book that can change your life.
In 1992 a counselor recommended this book for me when I was seeking advice on changing careers. I thought "Yeah, sure. Like a "self help" book could really be helpful, and sheesh, with a name like "Wishcraft"... Must be a bunch of hooey."

Well, it actually is helpful. Get it, read it, do the exercises in it. It can help you change your life. When I look at the changes I've made over the past 9 years due to what I learned from working through this book I'm astonished. I'm actually conscious of "Wishcraft" related approaches to my life almost weekly, even after 9 years. I really should read it again now.

I've recommended it to dozens of people, and just came here to buy a copy for my husband (he can't have mine!). I didn't know Barbara Sher had other books out - so I just bought them, too - let's see what else she has to offer!

If you are considering buying this book, do it. And buy a spare to loan to friends.

A positively exciting experience!
I don't tend to think of self-help books as "exciting"... but, unlike any of the others I've read, this is one I turn to again and again whenever I need some inspiration. I got it out of the public library originally, then bought my own and have given it to more than one friend since. The second time I read this book, it got me to sit down and actually sketch out the characters, plot, and scenes for the novel idea I'd been kicking around. (Now I have to read it again to make myself get back in gear!) It's worth reading just for the exercises in the first half: creative takes on the usual 'brainstorming' sort of activities, which actually yield useful insights into what makes life satisfying to you on a day-to-day level. Altogether excellent for reorganizing your priorities and your direction in life -- in big ways or small ways.

readable, practical, valuable
Ms. Sher has one of the most accessible writing styles I have found in a book of this type. Her ideas are easy to grasp and practical to implement, and fun! I recommend this book to all my friends who are expriencing general dissatisfaction with their life but who are not sure what direction to take next. The book has excellent goal setting exercises. It can be used again and again to plan and actualize various aspects of your life's dreams. One note of caution: bear in mind one of the other reviewer's comments about accepting everything in this book as gospel truth, especially the case studies and anecdotal results. Then read "Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience" by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi for some ideas with actual scientific backing. (No that's not a typo!) Then take out "Wishcraft" and get to work. The strength of this book is the clear and imaginative presentation of concrete techniques!
