It encourages one's own dreams!
I Dream a World is inspiring in its beautiful photography and the brief stories it shares about the women in the pictures. While it touches on their life stories, this book shares these women's thoughts. That is what draws me closer to this book each time I open it. The women inside, and the book itself, will make you think about your dreams and encourage you to work towards them.

No matter what your race or gender, give this book to anyone who needs encouragement. I especially enjoy recommending this book to young women who can learn a lot from the women within its pages.

Most Excellent
I DREAM A WORLD is a most excellent book. The photographs of the women are like portraits of their souls. What makes this book so wonderful is that each woman's story is told in her own words. This is more of the real history. Everyone should read this book because it is not only black history or women's history, it is American history.

A Complete Insiration
I truly love this peice. Not only is this book Quite inspiring it is very informative and based on the history of this country. I am trying to find a way to get contact with this photographer? if any on has information on an e-mail address or a residing address that would allow me to rite Brian Lanker, I would love for them to contact me. thank for your help! Knitting from the Top

Fabulous book
I grew up watching my Russian grandmother knit everything from the top down. In fact, like many Russians, she's never even considered knitting from the bottom up. I myself have always been too scared and lazy to bother with calculations, so I followed printed patterns. I don't find grafting and weaving difficult, but at the same time I found that adding seams to babies' and kids' garments is unappealing. If yarn is bulky, and the size is small, seams become obtrusive. So, I got B. Walker's book, read it from cover to cover, and now I am knitting a skirt from it for my little daughter. The book is absolutely clear and comprehensive without being too wordy. My only "complaint" is that it has no pictures of actual garments, only diagrams. I would have loved to see some pictures of the described designs.

Beginners, take note - this book assumes that you know how to cast on, cast off, increase, decrease, etc. If still unfamiliar with basic techniques, you will need another intro book.

Why knit from the top down?
EVERYONE begins a sweater from the ribbing up, right? Wrong, Barbara Walker takes you through a method to start from the neck down. This isn't just to be contrary, there are definite benefits to knitting top down.

One thing you can do is check the length while trying it on. Yes, you can do this. Put the unfinished stitches on a strand of yarn and slip the sweater over your head (or the head of the recipient.) You will quickly see how much more you need to knit, or whether you should add "short rows" (extra half rows that add a bit of ease) to cover a tummy or get rid of the dreaded riding up in the back. The book has methods for saddle shoulder sweaters (easy the top down way), raglan, drop sleeves, etc.

The book also has great methods for doing leggings, tights, skirts and other items you might want to knit but don't know how to. With a simple gauge-and-circumference technique you can make nearly any garment for anyone.

This is a revised edition. The original had some very dated 70's patterns and the new edition has been modernized.

Seamless and made to fit!
Hate sewing up? Never quite sure if it's the right length? Want to line up designs in the lower border with the pattern in the body? Then knit from the top. If your body's shaped like mine, patterns just don't fit and after you've done all that shaping at the top, who wants to undo it! With this method you make this decision at the end and make it having tried on the garment. I don't think I'll ever knit a sweater the other way. Best of all - no seams!

For every one who needs to think
People who don't appreciate the work of Barbara Kruger are blinded by their own bigotry, ignorance and fear to examine themself. All of her work is essential and should not be ignored by a single person. This is a great introduction to Barbara.

A NECESSARY BOOK FOR YOUR COLLECTION
"LOVE FOR SALE" THE WORDS AND PICTURES OF BARBARA KRUGER, is a ~must~ for anyone concerned with modern art, these days! Barbara constantly ~hits~ us, in full ~frontal-attack~ with her words! I was very fortunate to study under her, while attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and, MORE fortunate, today to own a couple of her original signed prints. Even my dinner guests, dining here in my home, here in Florence Italy, are left ~stunned~ and with an open-mouth, while studying her prints. BUY-THIS-BOOK-NOW...YOU WONT BE DISSAPOINTED!

Buy Me, I'll Change Your Life
Barbara Kruger's art, often pairing appropriated black & white photos with blocks of bold-faced type, has appeared on billboards, bus placards, posters, t-shirts and even shopping bags. She's big on circulating her stuff outside of conventional venues such as galleries and exhibits. This book showcases her brilliant work with plenty of full-page plates as well as photos of her installations and projects. There's a brief introduction covering her early design work for "Mademoiselle" magazine in the '60s and for various book covers in the '70s, up through her progression into the art world by the '80s. The pages of text are accompanied by assorted quotes from a variety of individuals (Edgar Allen Poe, Mae West, Sandra Bernhard). The influence of Kruger's stuff continues to turn up. Her work has been lifted for music videos (Motley Crue, Rage Against The Machine) and album covers (Snog, Consolidated), and her style is commonly imitated by lazy advertisers. This collection is an impressive and inspiring look at her career and her contribution to the world of art and design.

a wonderful book
I got this book at our local library and loved it so much that I had to buy it. I've loved boxes my entire life and can hardly throw one away. I'm so excited about the prospect of making my own boxes in any size, shape and color that I want. I've looked through a few books on this subject, but this is the book I'll start off with. I appreciate her exacting yet easy techniques and recommendations for the best materials, like Davey board instead of lesser cardboards that will warp. She also gives a technique for making your own bookcloth which excites me as a quilter/sewer.

Wonderful & unique boxes, they make great presents
This is a wonderful book filled with beautiful, unique boxes. Though they can be a bit time consuming, none of the projects are difficult and they can easily be made by a beginning crafter with a little patience.

The book starts out with the essentials of tools, materials and adhesives. I found the adhesives chart, which compares 4 different adhesive types, very helpful. There are also recipes for paste and methyl cellulose. Binder's board (Davy board) is the basic structural element for most of the projects. Principles covered include grain direction, parts of the box, measuring, cutting, gluing, covering with paper and fabric and making neat corners.

There are 13 different box projects, including a buttonhole stitched box, jewelry box, postcard box, picture frame box, faux book box, ornament box, artist's portfolio and Victorian scrapbook. The directions are excellent and include a materials list and step-by-step instructions accompanied by clear demonstrating photos. A large picture of the finished projects is also included. Conveniently, there is a list of suppliers in the back.

This book is perfect for bookbinders, rubber stampers and scrapbookers, and makes a great addition to any paper artist's library. The boxes themselves make great gifts for your loved ones and will be treasured for years to come.

A Must-Have!
This is a must-have book for anyone interested in the art of boxmaking. Barbara's vast teaching experience is reflected in the easy to follow step-by-step instructions which, when followed, will result in beautiful boxes. In the section on adhesives, Barbara takes the mystery out of the properties and usage of various adhesives (this section alone is worth the price of the book). You won't be disappointed in this practical and inspirational book.

Your child needs this book
I am a Latin teacher, grades 5 through 12. This is by far the best thing available for elementary students to use in learning Latin, The cartoons are well-designed and increase gradually in difficulty. My elementary students are able to trannslate the first story without any previoius Latin instruction. Grammar sections reinforce common English grammar concepts, like nouns, adjectives, and verbs. Culture of Roman Britain, as well as a soldier's life, is presented. Kids quickly become fond of the main character, Minimus the mouse. Classical roots to difficult English words, like patriarchal and infantile, are covered. Students are able to progress from Minimus to higher foreign language easily.

Parents without a Latin background, might want to obtain the teacher's book, which contains all the answers to the student book as well as reproducible masters for additional activities, suggestions for learning games and activities, and even a Roman recipe. The ISBN for the Teacher's Resource Book is 0-521-65961-2.

Minimus the Great!
This is an excellent start for children to begin building a foundation for many languages. The cartoons, and other illustrations catch their attention, and the short, but very informative stories keep it. Not only do they learn things about their own homes and families, but they get a taste of the larger world out there to discover.

A fun way to start learning Latin
I have a 7 year old daughter and wanted to lay a foundation of a language for her. So, we bought this book. She actually pulls this book out and wants to learn more about Latin. We enjoy the stories that go along with it! We like history as well, and it delves into the Roman culture at that time! Purchase it and enjoy!

Easy and practical steps towards transformation
I began using the workbook: How to Transform your life, as a 30 day experiment. I was amazed at the results. My attitude about my life circumstances made an almost effortless 360 degree turnabout. During the process, I was honesty with myself in what I asked of my life. In return, I received deeper insight and wisdom. I began looking forward to the daily journaling as a way to consciously observe my thoughts. It was through the journaling process that I began to realize how differently I began to preceive my life and how much gratitude I was experiencing. I noticed after the 20th day, or so, how past thoughts of negativity and self-doubt had lifted. As a result, I felt a renewed sense of competence and confidence. I came to the process ready for a "life transformation." I got it. The key is being ready for change -- then the messenger will appear. I would highly recommend the book/workbook for those serious and ready for transformation.

Do Yourself the Favor of Reading this Book
This little book has changed my life and is beginning to make waves as an increasing number of people discover its simple-and useful-truths.

I've been on a spiritual quest for many years, reading everything I could find on the various spiritual traditions and incorporating bits of wisdom from each into my life philosophy. This straightforward, charming book brings much of that knowledge together in such a way as to make it immediately relevant to the daily journey of life.

In my experience, many people on a spiritual path may be enriched by what they learn, but a bit lost as to how exactly to apply those lessons on a day-to-day basis to find some sense of peace within a culture of chaos. This book-with its six simple steps-provides a concrete method for combining the teachings of many spiritual beliefs into a practice that brings positive and lasting change in the way we live our lives.

As a professional editor of publications in the psychological realm, I review a great many books that attempt to help us find happiness. I am deeply impressed with this one ... and fascinated with the positive effect it's had on a diverse group of people, from skeptics to spiritual veterans.

Tools For Life
For ten years I have worked the six step process described in this little book. I am so very grateful this toolkit for life was made available to me, and I am delighted to see it in book form. The steps have enabled me to become more happy and whole than ever I dreamed possible. Find this out for yourself, if you choose to, by learning the six step process and implementing it in your daily life. With appreciation and joy in my heart and soul, I recommend this book and all that it makes possible.

Absolutely Excellent!
If you are having a bad day, this is definitely the book to read. There's no way that you can read it and not laugh!! These women are incredible. Just reading one chapter a day gives you enough encouragement to tackle any obstacle you may have going on in your life. If you want something inspirational, light-hearted, and loving, this is the book for you.

It's okay to have fun!
"Joy Breaks", by Patsy Clairmont, Barbara Johnson, Luci Swindoll and Marilyn Meberg dramatically changed my outlook on life! I was going through a season of depression. I couldn't escape the torment I was living in day after day. After attending the first Women of Faith conference, I picked up a copy of "Joy Breaks". These four wonderful and zainy ladies (to whom I am forever indebted) taught me how to find humor in every day experiences and encouraged me to find reasons to laugh. My entire perspective on life has changed. I now understand and know that the Lord truly is the joy of my strength! If you are ready to start living life--and enjoying it--consider taking "Joy Breaks" for a spin!

Makes a wonderful gift
I really enjoyed the way this book was laid out. The authors have unique writing styles, but very friendly, as if they were speaking directly to you. Each devotion is short enough to squeeze into a corner of your day. However, I found myself reading two or three at a time. I liked it so much I bought another copy as a Secret Sister gift!

Healing, Helpful book
Dena Rosenbloom, Ph.D., and Mary Beth Williams Ph.D have written an extremely helpful book for trauma survivors. They work from the premise that: "Trauma affects us by undermining five basic human needs. These are: •The need to be safe •The need to trust •The need to feel some control over one’s life •The need to feel of value •The need to feel close to others." Life After Trauma is designed to help survivors learn to meet these needs. It can be used at home or in conjunction with therapy. The authors do not feel that every one needs therapy even though they are therapists trained in dealing with trauma. They believe, however, that trauma changes survivors’ basic beliefs, sometimes in ways of which they are not aware. This book is designed to increase a survivor’s awareness of core beliefs, to help survivors test their validity, and to help find more healing beliefs if the survivor so desires. Life After Trauma is about dealing with life today, not for working through the trauma. The prologue discusses how the workbook can help survivors. The authors stress finding support, learning self-care strategies, affirmations and soothing self-talk. They discuss when to set the workbook aside and coping with triggers. I found all these suggestions very helpful in dealing with some emotional upheavals I was having at the time. Chapter One, “After Trauma: Why you feel thrown for a loop,” discusses physical, mental, emotional and behavioral reactions to trauma and ways of checking in with yourself and learning to relax. The second chapter, “Ways of Coping After the Trauma,” contains several coping checklists and questions you can ask yourself for analyzing how you cope, followed by suggestions on how to cope more effectively. They even point out that dissociation can be an effective coping tool if you can evoke it as needed. Chapter Three, “Thinking Things Through,” discusses how to separate facts from reactions and meanings/interpretations, how these may change after trauma and a system for thinking them through. The next five chapters explore in detail how to meet the five needs, safety, trust, control, value and intimacy. Part of this is identifying beliefs, checking their validity, finding possible alternate explanations or interpretations, and so forth. There are also reminders of self care activities and relaxations exercises throughout the book. Here’s a quote "You can shift your physical and emotional state by, first, reminding yourself that you are in a different time and place from when you experienced trauma initially. You probably have greater choice and control now that you did then. Second, find ways to comfort and soothe yourself. We have provided ideas for doing this throughout the book, such as relaxation exercises. You may not think they can be much help, but consider this: It is not possible to be tense and completely relaxed at the same time. Learning to relax will directly relieve your tension and anxiety, even if for brief periods initially. Learning to relax can help you feel more in control as well as calmer. The feelings you learn to evoke through self-care and self-comforting exercises are, in many ways, the opposite of those evoked by the trauma. You can learn to use them to help counter and manage negative feelings that now seem out of your control." There is also a very good appendix on readings, one on finding good trauma therapy, and one for therapists who might want to use this book with clients. I can’t recommend this book too highly. It is healing, deals with the kind of daily problems that trauma survivors face in a sensible, thoughtful, and above all, hopeful way. Things can change one little step at a time. The book offers a lot of steps a survivor can take, always with an emphasis on safety and self care. This review first appeared in the Post-Traumatic Gazette, a newsletter with a healing perspective for all trauma survivors. ...This book has that healing perspective.

Excellent Book on Coping With Trauma
I purchased this book only to later realize that Dr. Rosenbloom was local to me. After reading and using the book, I chose Dr. Rosenbloom as my personal therapist.

I would strongly recomment this workbook to anyone that is struggling with recovery from trauma or Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.

Living in the Present
I was expecting this book to be about unraveling the past, understanding it, and generally spending a lot of time in territory I wasn't interested in revisiting... Thankfully, it is about being aware of feelings taking place in the present. This book is geared toward increasing self-awareness and self-knowledge, especially important for those who have disassociated in some way or don't feel like "themselves". What a great thing! The format and style are comfortable and easy to use, and I found myself gaining insight as the book went along, without adding more stress to my life! Thank you for this wonderful workbook.

Highly recommended
Their arrangement was simple. Marketer Hope Sumner wants to become the next vice-president in her company. Lawyer Sam Sharkey wants to become his firm's next partner. In a world where appearances are everything, they each need "arm candy" to present the appropriate look at seasonal events. So they make an agreement; they will attend this season's parties together, looking appropriately sappy and making lover-like comments without the emotional vulnerabilities that accompany usual relationships. Then Sam suggests that they become lovers as well, since sexual fulfillment is sorely lacking between the tightly booked schedules of their Palm Pilots.

Meanwhile, Hope's ready to make changes in her life. She hires an interior decorator to make her apartment more livable. While Mavbelle Ewing brings feng shui to her apartment, she also surreptitiously erases the sharp lines from Hope's life. Suddenly a carefully controlled schedule and work aren't enough to fill Hope's existence. Sam likewise finds himself drawn to the very emotions he professes to avoid. With his law firm representing Hope's company in an upcoming lawsuit, however, trouble approaches on the horizon. Soon they will find themselves facing not only a personal crisis, but also a professional one that will leave them questioning their morals, their values, and their priorities.

Author Barbara Daly pens a delightful holiday romance in A LONG HOT CHRISTMAS. The charm lies especially in the details from the feng shui decorator who never seems to send a bill, to Hope's creatively constructed Christmas star. The deeper issues of their professional lives never overtake the narrative, but beautifully highlight the brittle and superficial appearances that conceal their strong personalities. The ending is especially wonderful in the way that Hope and Sam cheer victims of a Christmas tragedy. A lovely read that shouldn't be confined just to Christmas, A LONG HOT CHRISTMAS comes highly recommended.

A WINNER!
No wonder this book was nonimated for a Rita award for Best Temptation. Only Barbara Daly could find sex and humor in plumbing pipe. Entertaining at every page-turn, with a lemons-into-lemonade ending. Now onward to the 'sister' stories in her double Duets!

Hot and cold
I am a male, first time romance reader and found this to be light and entertaining, a lot of funny interludes and the characters each believable for something I really didn't plan to take seriuosly. I want to see what happens to Faith and Charity in the future. A good read.

Another winner from Barbara Freethy
Ms. Freethy has delivered another poignant tale of love and family and relationships that leaves the reader breathless. Like LaVyrle Spencer, she never fails to show how a couple's burgeoning love affects others around them as well. In this case, I especially liked the way she dealt with Rachel's son. I also liked the resolution of the "mystery" about Rachel's husband. All in all, a wonderful book, highly recommended.

Another winner!
Love Will Find a Way is Barbara Freethy's latest book. I've read every one since Daniel's Gift and I must say this is fantastic! It's a real page-turner, I was hooked, couldn't wait to find out how love could find a way for Rachel and her husband's best friend. Also there's the suspense of trying to find out what secrets her husband had been hiding from her. Believe me, you won't be able to put it down!

Another Must Have!
Ms. Freethy has given us another terrific page-turner in LOVE WILL FIND A WAY. From beginning to end,we are wondering about the truth right along with the heroine--on the one hand, hoping to discover her husband's secrets, on the other, dreading to know them. This is a story from the heart that is, as always with Barbara, masterfully crafted and something that lingers in the reader's heart long after the mysteries are uncovered. I highly recommend this book with its gorgeous blossoming tree cover that draws the reader right into this touching and compelling love story.
