Kaja and Kelod a Fascinating, Informative Read
Kaja and Kelod: Balinese Dance in Transition is a true find. Sandwiched in the grey area between purely scholastic work and popular introduction, K&K succeeds at both. With excellent prose and intelligent progression, DeBoer and Bandem trace the history of Balinese dance through the decades. The beautiful pictures perfectly complement the writing. Throughout, Bandem and DeBoer delve deep into the particulars of their subject, without becoming unreadable to a layman. At times witty, always intelligent, Kaja and Kelod is a truly excellent work.

Very informative and practical
Balm for Gilead is a must read for any pastor that serves in an African American church or community. The book took a systematic approach to pastoral care for African American families. The cultural and historical background of African Americans was clearly kept in mind. There are some family issues that are peculiar to people of color. The authors skillfully incorporated many other sources into this valuable resource. Moreover, information for organizations that can provide more assistance was included as well. Dealing with family violence is not an easy task. The book addresses ministry to victims of abuse and also perpetrators of abuse. Usually, perpetrators are protected by society and the church. The authors clearly demonstrated the the absolute necessity of protecting the victim first. This book provides guidelines for what should be done and what should not be done. Additionally, very valid reasons are given for the guidance they provide. Overall, a great book.

After the first six years of collecting data from descendents of Pomeranian immigrants, Myron Gruenwald identified the patterns of where they came from and where they settled. He also tries to identify characteristics possesed by these immigrants. He gathers information from 1164 families and gives detailed accounts of the path they took to get to America. Most of the immigrants during this period settled in Wisconsin and later in other midwest states.

The Beginning of the Gospel Vol 1 &2
Excellent! A well researched and easily read book that includes the latest research and a new approach. The gospel is seen as a Book on Jesus and the first century church. Many confusing aspects in the gospel are interpreted in a way that is believable. For the scholar, the preacher and anyone interested in reading the latest on Mark.

The Best of Lowell L. Bennion: Selected Writings, 1928-1988
Published in Hardcover by Deseret Books (1988)

The Comprehensive Collection of Bennion's Essays
Someone once said that the essay was *the* essential form of Mormon writing because it so nearly matched our tradition of testimony-bearing and Nephi's standard of "glorying in plainness." This book is the essential collection of Lowell Bennion's work, stretching from his earliest contributions to published church manuals to late in his life (though he managed to complete several small books in his old age after this was assembled.) Every page is a feast for those who would like to reconcile the best of LDS teachings with the best of the world's humane wisdom. Common sense was Bennion's guiding light, as he struggled to search out what the Holy Spirit made manifest in the turbulent world. This edition was published by Deseret Book (as were most of Bennion's earlier books.) It's a shame it's out of print. A new generation needs it very badly.

The Best Possible Sawmill: Guidebook for the High-Tech Journey Ahead
Published in Hardcover by Backbeat Books (1997)
Author: Eugene L. Bryan
Amazon base price: $45.00
Average review score:

The Best Possible For Profit Enterprise
"The Best Possible Sawmill" was published in 1996. I regret that it took me until 2001 to discover this book, which could have been titled "The Best Possible For Profit Enterprise" as the book is a gold mine for any businessperson with P&L responsibility. Using the sawmill as a metaphor, the book explains The Profit Gap (the difference between a company's current and potential earnings) and how to narrow this gap and increase profit by using Linear Programming technology to guide a manager's decision making about what markets to compete in, what products to make and sell, and what vendors and business partners to use. I recommend this book to any person with P&L responsibility.
