Made me feel like a pro
I like this book very much because it starts with the basics of Adobe Photoshop, and it also starts with learning different effects and techniques you can start to use right away. This is a fun way to learn - you really feel like you are accomplishing something. Perkins and Grant use layman language without making the reader feel like a dummy; illustrations and examples of what is being talked about are plentiful.

I turned to this book many times when I needed to learn a Photoshop technique in a hurry, although I have several Adobe Photoshop books on hand. I knew with Tradional Photographic Effects With Adobe Photoshop I could do what I needed to with little confusion and searching.

Along with clear and concise instructions for working on your photographs, a section covers input and output techniques.

This is a great book for Photoshop beginners and a nice book for Photoshop pros to have on hand to a technique up in a hurry.

A guide to using the "digital darkroom." This one's a must.
This book pulls out all the stops, presenting helpful, practical information vital to creating perfect prints. It is well illustrated with color images and screenshots, making any digital-photographic endeavor--from sandwiching to vignetting to creating "infrared" images--a quick and painless process. I especially appreciated the reader-friendly organization of the book. I could flip to any page to find a great technique, mastering the steps at my own pace without wading through a maze of unimportant, high-brow digital jargon. This book is inspiring!

Florida Travel Smart by Wilson & et al
What a delightful volume ! I live on Florida's Sun Coast and was so pleased to find its virtues extolled with such a succint and easily read book. I was amazed at how much local lore I had missed that was right in my own backyard.

The maps and clear directions make this an invaluable aid to anyone choosing our fair state

Al Rice

Refreshing new travel guide to Florida
This is a wonderful down-to-earth guide book. In addition to the better known tourist attractions, the writers tell you about the lesser known attractions, such as museums, natural attractions, some history, the arts, etc. This book has something for everyone, from the nature lover to the theme park lover; it's for people who like to camp, and those who'd rather stay at pricey hotels. Check out the special interest tours in the back, they're great!

Excellent reference
I keep coming back to this title where other texts like Foley and Van Dam and Angel come short. All the basic hidden surface and shading techniques from which today's architectures are derived are described in detail. Modeling techniques are left out. My only wish was that there was a more recent collection including current hardware accelerators, plus some modeling techniques like subdivision surfaces and DirectX 8's patches.

Excelent!
This is a wonderful collection of very important papers on image synthesis. It's all there: hidden surface removal, ray tracing, radiosity, texture mapping, and anti-aliasing. The annotated bibliography at the end is very helpful.

Very informative
For those of us suffering from both known and unknown stomach maladies (in my case the wonderful catchall dyspepsia, for which there is no cure -- see this book to have that driven home in full force!) The Ulcer Story is highly informative. Although it is written in quite a professional tone -- no layperson here -- still, I believe anyone can understand it and benefit from the many detailed descriptions of treatments, as well as the photographs.

I highly recommend this book.

A must for your reference library if your have an ulcer!
Stop looking. This book is a one stop guide that will enable you to understand what your body is doing in those places you can't see, but you KNOW they are there. I believe every doctor should update their ulcer related knowledge by reading this book. "The Ulcer Story" is written in an easy to digest manner, so don't hesitate in finding out about YOUR stomach.

I had H. pylori previous to discovering through an Endoscopic exam that a Peptic ulcer hadn't healed and a growth developed on a healed Duodenal ulcer. Result: Surgery. Afterward, I was so sick and no one had an answer for "what do I do now"?

Get this book before surgery. Find out your options for treatment before and after. Take it with you to the doctors office. Go armed with information that will help you be a smart consumer. You couldn't spend your time better or money wiser.

The Ultimate Bicycle Book
Published in Hardcover by Bantam Doubleday Dell Pub (Trd) (1992)
Authors: Richard Ballantine and Richard Grant
Amazon base price: $30.00
Average review score:

Aptly named...
If there is only one book about cycling you should own - then this is it!

Everyone who owns a bike should get this, especially if you're just starting out. It is really what got me started off, now I own my ultimate dream machine and I still refer to it now and then. You see so many riders out there with incorrectly set up bikes. The three things I can notice from about 100 feet away are: their seat is too low; their chain is insufficiently lubricated; and the derailleurs are not adjusted properly. This book will teach you how to set up your bike correctly, and provide you with essential knowledge on cycling.

This has all the info in it for beginners and intermediates alike. The main sections are: mountain bikes, racing bikes and touring bikes, future bikes and cycle maintenance. Within these pages, you'll find info about bike set-up/positioning, sizing of frames, clothing, riding techniques, racing and stretching. Plus more info on other specific bike parts, such as: frame construction, types of wheels, gears/brakes, etc. Also specific info about various types of bikes used in: observed trials, the tour de France, criterium races, time¨Ctrials, triathlons, track racing (& classic bikes).

The maintenance section is quite extensive, and will generally be adequate for most people's needs. It covers tools (and there's a lot!), wheel truing, fixing flat tires, adjustments for comfort, brakes, chains, pedals, derailleur adjustment, and cleaning/lubrication.

There are plenty of good colour photos, it is well written and very informative - what more could you ask for? If you haven't actually flicked through this book and you're still having doubts about getting it, go to your local bookshop and just have a look through it, you'll see what I mean. All in all a very comprehensive guide to cycling - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for youngsters and/or beginners.

Best photo/character book of the bicycle
This book has the best most diverse photos of bicycles of any ever. Also some fine writing and insights. The only big photo spread I've ever seen on road-side emergency repairs. Bravo! Also plenty of coverage of bicycle alternatives, which diversity is what bikes are all about in the first place. Bravo again! This book should be kept in print, in libraries nationwide. Richard's Best Book, 2nd ed, should also have never been let go (it has the best bike ART in any book).

easy reading
This is one of the best school age books writtern about General Grant. Gives an overview of his whole life, not just his life during the civil war. Nice illustrations and black and white photographs of his later life add a nice touch.

Well researched children's book
Susan Gregson has written a well-researched book about a complex Civil War figure. This colorful, heavily illustrated overview of the famous general will appeal to children and adults alike. Well-known Grant scholar John Y. Simon consulted on the book, assuring the book's accuracy.

Ulysses S. Grant (The Works Of Hamlin Garland - 45 Volumes)

Author: Hamlin Garland

The best Grant biography... period.
Ulysses S. Grant has been shafted and misunderstood throughout the century since his passing. This book rectifies that slight. I've exhaustively examined the author's interviews and notes for this book and can attest that his scholarship is unparrelelled. Garland truly and completely understood his subject in his many nuances. This is the premier Grant biographty, unsullied by the passage of 100 years since its publication. If you seek to know Grant as he really was, Garland's bio is a MUST HAVE.

Clear, direct, and enlightening portrait of Ulysses S. Grant
A veritable time machine, this book picks you up and drops you down in the middle of the 19th century where the you will be treated to the most incisive and unbiased view of Grant this reviewer has ever seen. Garland interviewed people who actually knew Grant and the immediacy of his observations shines through. You'll never get this kind of a portrait through the filter of a century of history. One of a kind.

Extraordinary Book
This book is well written and documented with a wealth of information gathered on the subject of the afterlife. The author holds true to his writing style of easy to read and understand language for the average individual. As with all his work, thus far, it's based upon the information from the Edgar Cayce Readings as well as other informative documentation.
I highly recommend this book to anyone with questions regarding the afterlife.

16 Clues to Your Past Lives
As a certified past-life therapist, I realize that Barbara Lane has put into words what I have instinctively known for years about accessing clues to past life memories. It is no accident that we tend to be attracted to or fascinated by specific people, places, occupations, or to scenes from movies, books, etc. Ms. Lane's book is insightful and very well written. I believe this book will be most helpful for anyone who is curious about his or her past-life history.

Violent Offenders Can Run, But They Can't Hide!
The authors clearly know their material and. perhaps, most importantly, know how to convey this information in a clear and forthright manner. Facts and statistics saturate the content of the text, and do so in the professional style one would hope for. Historical, with expert research always evident, this is a resource which ought to be on the desks of all of those professionals who are involved with the complex and often tedious demands surrounding actuarial assessments!

Comprehensive and Uncompromising
This is an excellent book about the development of actuarial tools to determine risk for Violence and Sex Offender Risk. The books content covers the history of research in this area over the last 25 years and methods and measurement. The Chapter on clinical judgement is excellent and sets the stage for the need of actuarial assessments to enhance our ability to determine risk. The appendicies contain the two risk tools developed by the authors: 1) Violence Risk Appraisal Guide (VRAG, and 2) Sex Offender Risk Appraisal Guide (SORAG). I highly recommend this book!

What an eye-opening book it is!!
This book is simple to read and easy to implement. It is an alternative method to traditional medicine. Everyone should have it in their home. It shows in a step by step method how to heal headaches to shoulder pain to tooth aches and on and on. I have used the method(s) suggested in this book and it works. This is what the nursing profession would probably call the healing hands method.

Easy to understand concepts
After reading the book, I was amazed at how simple the author was able to relate such a seemingly complicated theory. After trying some of the techniques myself, I am thrilled to find healing at my fingertips.
