It is a very well documented book showing the Canadian senator and his world and times. I found it interesting that Canada is such a different country from the United States. I found myself with a great admiration for our neighbor country after reading the book.

I learned much about Canada from a book written by an immigrant. It should be published in English and French languages for the Canadian readers. I learned that generally speaking Canada is a country that appreciates immigrants and their culture, I wish other countries were more like Canada.

Buy the book if you like slot machines. In answer to Steve Clark from England who wrote, "Could anyone tell me who invented slot machines? I know this is not the way to go about it but I can' find out about it any where else!" I found an excerpt that answers your question: "Nickel in the slot" machines first appeared in the mid-1800s and awarded cigars and free drinks. The first coin-operated counter-wheel machine was patented in 1892 by Gustave Schultz of San Francisco. So there you have it Steve! (And we still got our Cable Cars, Golden Gate Bridge, and Hookers!)

I loved this book when I was a kid!! I have many fond memories of it. My mother refuses to let me have my copy (she claims its hers--goes to show you she liked it as much as me!), so I came here, in search of buying a copy for a friend's child and I am shocked and upset to find that it is out of print! How could they do that?! They need to start reprinting it again. It would be such a shame for so many children to miss this funny and poignant book.

Rosemary Wells is my favorite children's author and this is my favorite of all her books (except now that she has written a book with a protangonist named Emily I may have to change my mind). Few books make a frustrated older sibling feel understood as well as this one -- A Baby Sister for Frances is another that comes to mind -- while reminding them that being the older one is an important job. Every pair of siblings should have this one read to them.

Stanley and his consistently befuddled sister Rhoda are memorable. This book will make you laugh at any age. It's hilarious! I read it to my younger sister, every kid I babysat while I was in high school and even took it with me to college for a little light reading.

Falsetto's guide to Kubrick is as Dante's to the Inferno: that is, DIVINE. Never mind the price, this book is worth it! Easy to read, scene breakdowns ( sometimes shot-by-shot ), and narrative patterns. Read another review for what they're like, I won't waste time trying to recite something too perfect to recite:

Falsetto blends thoughtful, intellectual critques of Kubrick's work focusing on his editing choices and the tension between subjective and objective storytelling. It is by far the first comprehensive analysis of Eyes Wide Shut to be included in a book on Kubrick's style. Falsetto's discourse illuminates previous themes that never occurred to me such as the fact that the narrator in Barry Lyndon probably represents the eighteenth century aristocratic viewpoint, and therefore is not really an objective storyteller at all. Falsetto's articulate analysis of Kubrick's narrative themes are completely engrossing and fascinating without ever getting lost in technical jargon. His analysis is particularly right on when discussing such an underappreciated work such as Full Metal Jacket. He argues that Kubrick was aiming for hyperrealism, and that many of the scenes seem very surreal thus penetrating the heart of what war is about. This book is so comprehensive. I love that it covers the basic stretches for everyone as well as sections on stretching for chronic conditions. I have asthma and carpul tunnel syndrome, just two of the conditions it specifically addresses. A bonus to me: it gives suggestions for children and pregnancy. I was originally intending on buying at least two books on stretching, but because of all the ground that this one covers, and the fact that it was written by two chiropractors, I don't feel the need to invest in any other texts.

As an athlete myself, I have read all kinds of books on stretching and fitness. I found this to be the most informative manual on stretching that I have ever seen. A virtual encyclopedia of stretching! It covers every sport & activity known. Ranging from competitive athletics, to household chores, to certain ailments and even pregnancy. Also, simple exercises are outlined to help strengthen the back and joints of the body, helping to rehabilitate and prevent injuries. It is very easy to read - explaining technical concepts in a simple and understandable manner. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to increase their flexibilty, prevent injuries, and improve their health.

Systematic Theology: A Pentecostal Perspective is hands down the best book from a Pentecostal organization that I have read period! It is edited wonderfully by respected Assemblies of God theologan Stanley M. Horton who happens to write a the last chapter dealing with eschatology.

As fantastic as this book is, it's always good to keep in mind that books like this are best utilized as springboards for further study. In my mind, a key and unique benefit of this book is that each chapter is penned by various Assembly of God theologans and scholars that write on areas which underscore their expertise. Through each chapter, Scripture and commentary run hand in hand leaving the reader to study content and context.

Personally as a student of theological studies and its accuracy (as far as we can Biblically determine), I like to verify much of what an author states. Making a habit of reading some of the books in the bibliography is a good practice because it will enlighten you. Some of the more interesting books listed in the bibliography are "Counterfiet Miracles" by Warfield and "Christian Initiation and Baptism in the Holy Spirit" by McDonnell and Montague.

Because of the amount of material covered in this book, which idea by idea is a tremendous amount, a serious study is beneficial for any reader. The investment of study in the material is an investment in the reader of the book.

This book is recommended to all Christians who seek to learn more about the essentials of conservative Pentecostal systematic theology. Contrary to many people, traditional Pentecostals are not unscholarly emotionalists who lack knowledge in theology. Actually, one will find this book very scholarly. The book is comprised of essays from various Pentecostal scholars on the traditional themes of systematic theology (starting from Prolegomena to the Last Things). The book is a very balanced presentation of conservative Pentecostalism. As a Calvinist, cessationist, and Progressive Dispensationalist I thought I would throw the book away after reading the first few chapters. However, I found myself reading more and more and getting a good understanding of what Pentecostals believe. One will not find a "hokey" Word of Faith type theology in this book. In fact, the authors try to distance themselves from this movement; making a clear distinction between traditional Pentecostalism and man-glorifying unorthodox "health-wealth" Charismatism. Many will find this book useful for lay Bible studies and personal devotion. The book is not only scholarly, but also practical. The book is also easy to read and fun.

This work is edited by Dr. Stanley Horton and is written by various Assemblies of God pastors and theologians. The book is the best systematic theology I have ever seen put out by any Pentecostal church.

The book covers the 16 fundamental truths of the Assemblies of God.... It deals with every major evangelical teaching but differs, of course, with mainline chuches on the Assemblies of God teaching on the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the Initial, Physical Evidence of Speaking in Tongues.

If you are an avid reader of theology or you simply want to learn more about what Pentecostals believe and teach than I would encourage you to get this book. It is well worth the money. I have purchased two of them and lent out both of them.

My son is 19 months and loves to recite this book to everyone. He has it memorized, and he loves all the animals and sounds they make. Highly recommended!!

My 6 month old daughter gets bored with a lot of books, but this one holds her attention every time. The uncluttered illustrations are easy for her to make out, and she loves listening to mom make animal sounds. We read it at least three times a day!

We encountered this book at our public library storytime. My two year old daughter took this book from the reader and has not been with out it since. She loves the animal sounds. My four year old "reads" this book and everyone joins in to make the sounds. The best part is seeing all my children react to the twist ending and laughing hyterically. This book works for my baby learning animal sounds, my 4 year old as a "memorize" reader and my 6 year old as a beginner reader, and even my 12 year old enjoys the twist. This one is definately a keeper and we have to have our own copy!

I am in the process of collecting all of the Stanley Hastings books in hardcover. I have read them all and he is the most entertaining sleuth in the business. His reluctance at being drawn into the mystery makes the plots all the more irresistable and as a result, they are not predictable. He makes me laugh out loud...never have I read a more charming character.

I have read at least five other books featuring the unique Stanley Hastings, but this one is special because of the different setting. Instead of his usual ambulance-chasing, Stanley gets to play a major part in a production of "Arms and the Man". I had read the play long ago, and that added to my enjoyment of the book. Rarely has a protagonist risen so triumphantly over countless humiliating circumstances; you have to admire the almost masochistic determination of actors who put up with all he describes in hilarious, but still almost depressing detail. Ambulance-chasing in the Bronx seems a picnic compared to Stanley's experiences in this book.

PI Stanley Hastings is called by an old college buddy to fill in for an actor who died right before opening night of ARMS AND THE MAN in a tiny New England town. The stage manager promptly gets himself murdered, and Stanley has to help Chief Bob (an amateur actor himself) find the killer. The search is a comically depressing examination of backstage life and midlife crisis that leaves the reader amazed at Stanley's emotional resilience.

The amount of theatrical detail Hall included was impressive, and I enjoyed his use of internal dialogue, which ranks right up there with Lawrence Block's. And it's the rare mystery author who can sneak a Pinter joke into the dialogue like Hall does. I did find Stanley's hang-up on the spelling of the word "actor" mildly distracting, but it would take an awful lot more than that to detract from the fun of this book.

There isn't much to say about the amazing book exept that throught the words and photos of the passangers' letters, diaries, quotes, tickets, staterooms, clothing, ect.; you get an exellent feeling of who was on the Titanic, not just a group as a whole, but you begin to know them as individuals.
Believe me, this "Fortune" is one exellent investment!!![...]

This book must adorn your bookshelf if you are a serious Titanic fan. The book contains everything from a complete passenger list, tantilizing facts and amazing pictures of artifacts that will make any "Titanic-maniac" feel like they're owning the real thing!

As you read the book, you can't help but feel as though you've been transported back to 1912 and feel a part of history...

This book is definately a keeper, Good Work!

If you're a Titanic buff, then this book is a must-have. The pictures of the artifacts and people, and the factoids that go with them make the stories come alive. What really got to me was the entire passenger list stating the names, ages, class, and if they survived.

The Watergate break-in and coverup scandal that toppled the presidential administration of Richard Nixon is, maybe arguably, one of American history's watershed events. Why is clearly explained by Richard Kutler in his historically rich book that is very probably the most comprehensive and easily understood publication on the subject. Kutler begins with the approval by the president's men of the break-in at the headquarters in the Watergate complex of the National Democratic Committee and, after the plot's five burglars are nabbed, the conspiracy to cover up the involvement of the White House in the break-in. Kutler is rightly clear in pressing the point that there has never been any evidence that Nixon himself approved the break-in (that was OKed by the president's operatives). But, just six days after the June 17, 1972, break-in, Nixon ordered the coverup in the now infamous smoking gun taped conversation with chief of staff H.R. Haldeman. From the apprehension of the break-in's participants, Kutler takes us to the Senate investigative committee that gradually chipped away to lead to the articles of impeachment that were being advanced but not forwarded to the House because of Nixon's resignation. The number of participants in the Watergate affair is sheer numbing, but Kutler does a tremendous job in not getting his reader too bogged down in trying to keep the cast straight. In the end, though, the historical value of Kutler's contribution is why Watergate essentially redefined the presidency, how it altered the American public's perception of the nation's highest office and why and how the built-in safeguards against a tyrannical presidency worked. As for Nixon, it goes without saying he was a truly tragic figures whose pettiness sabotaged what could likely have been one of the most effective presidential administrations in history. Kutler concludes with a tantalizing question: assuming that Nixon did, to some extent, rehabilitate his public image in the years before his death, was that rehabilitation due to the fallen president's changing his character's fatal flaws, or was it because he simply out-lived most of what he called his "enemies?" All this and more in one of the most compelling documents in the Watergate fiasco.

Most books on Watergate were written not long after the scandal broke by either journalists or by the participants. Stanley I. Cutler is one of the first to look at the scandal from a "historical" perspective. He does an excellent job of presenting the events in the proper historical context, removed as they now are from the political passions that bolied over at the time. Nixon then was a discraced figure with a core of ardent supporters. He managed to partly rehabilitate himself before his death by outlasting many of his enemies. This book shows, in all grim detail, why Nixon should never be allowed to complete his quest for rehabilitation. It shows clearly the dangers of electing a President willing and able to deliberately misuse his power.

This is the clearest, most concise, most accesible book on Watergate I have ever come across. Its most important feature is providing the reader with a deepr understanding of Watergate beyond the mere surface aspects of the cover-up, but instead lets one understand the implications the Nixon Administartions activities had for the nation. At times, the book may seem too partisan, and the large "cast of characters" can be hard to juggle. These minor criticisms aside, it as an important book to read, particlulary for young people in light of the recent Clinton impeachment hearings, so that they may judge for themselves whether or not that scandal in fact had the gravity and import of Watergate.
