Presents little known communication skills/phone as tool
Written in an interview/conversational format as a man who earns his living through telephone sales learns how we establish rapport with others, effective communication skills and how to overcome his personal phobia of the telephone, etc.

I have given copies of this book to others, who thoroughly enjoyed it and they in turn have also given copies of the book to others.

Communication and understanding of what produces desired interaction in this language driven world of ours is looked at critically with some very helpful, easily understandable and useful suggestions and/or ideas.

The reader also learns about how the mind processes information and in so doing assists the reader to tear down walls that separate us as individuals from others in the very human desire to make worthwhile human connection with others.

Enjoy the fun of learning how one's primary/preferred neurological stimulus affects our every day decisions and even the words we primarily use.

I very highly recommend "The Phone Book" by Zarro, et al. to anyone who communicates and desires to do so more effectively. This short, easy read paperback book is packed with facts and information that is a must to all. A true classic!

Like his other books by master teacher Richard Zarro, this is a welcome addition to anyone's library.

Everything you need to know to photograph this area
This book is the third in the author's arsenal, and it is just as useful as the other two. The author is a wonderful photographer, just the images in the book would be worth the price, but the reader gets a lot more:
Detailed descriptions of where to go for the best shots, and the best times to go there. For some of the areas, you get a mile-by-mile log, and even some compositional suggestions. Even if one has been to these places previously, this book contains extremely valuable information for the serious photographer.

A classic lesson for people of all ages.
This book was a pure joy to read. Even though it's meant for children, I received it as a gift and intend to read it to my daughter when she's old enough to understand. The person who gave the book to me knew that I, like you, would appreciate the dreamlike environment in which the book is set. It makes for a golden-threaded background for another lesson based on the golden rule--with a twist. Instead of "Do Unto Others As You Would Be Treated", it's more of a "Do As They Want to Be Treated."

The words used and the way the story is told keeps the tale alive and interesting for both adults and children. (Adults in particular would enjoy the "knowing way" in which certain descriptions are slipped in.)

Sic Et Non: A Critical Edition
Published in Hardcover by University of Chicago Press (1978)
Authors: Peter Abelard, Peter Abailard, Richard Peter McKeon, and Blanche Boyer
Amazon base price: $200.00
Average review score:

A "must read" for anyone. . .
. . .who wishes to understand the perspective of Peter Abelard.

Peter Abelard is possibly one of the most misunderstood theologians of the entire High Middle Ages. Unfortunately, he is primarily remembered for his love affair with his equally brillian student Heloise -- and the fearsome revenge exacted upon him by her angry uncle.

It is unfair to remember only this! Abelard was a brilliant theologian and a brilliant teacher at one of the most renowned universities of his day (the University of Paris).

Sic et Non, arguably Abelard's greatest work, is his demonstration (much to the chagrin of the ecclesiastical authorities of his day) that the Early Church Fathers did NOT agree on all issues, and that it was possible (indeed, quite easy) to use the Fathers to argue against the Fathers.

It grieves me that more scholarly attention is not given to Abelard.

It's the Only Way
Richard Rohr offers such insight that I could hardly turn the page without marking some bit of wisdom that I'd want to return to again and again. This is not a practical guide of "how to". Rather, it challenges the reader to begin to discern the right questions to ask him or herself about their perspectives of their own reality. Happiness begins there. Really living begins there.

Well written and artfully laid out.
Not a formal history, but an attempt to convey the atmosphere and flow of the battle; it is very well done. One of a series of books in the same format, all of them worthwhile.

Absolutely necessary sailing manual
"This Is Sailing" is a wonderful, extremely useful manual for beginning sailors -- and more experienced ones who would like to broaden their knowledge of sailing or sailing terminology. There is scarcely a page without colour illustrations (photos and drawings), all of which are easy to see and to understand. The text is succinct and lucid, and the sailing vocabulary is in boldface. This book is quite serious when it calls itself "a complete course". Containing a massive amount of sailing know-how, "This Is Sailing" is a must for everyone who wasn't actually born sailing.

Wagner's Parsifal: The Journey of a Soul

Highly recommended
I cannot recommend this too highly as an introduction to what many regard as Richard Wagner's most problematic work. Peter Bassett's book restores balance to modern perspectives on Wagner's "stage dedicating festival-drama"; a balance that has been missing from (most significantly) Robert Gutman's eccentric interpretation and Lucy Beckett's interpretation from a narrowly Christian perspective.

As Peter Bassett makes clear "Parsifal" is a work that can be meaningful to adherents of any religion or none. He discusses the roots of Wagner's drama in the Grail legend as it appears in medieval romances; he also explains how the work relates to Wagner's interest in Buddhism.

The book includes a prose translation of Wagner's 1877 German text into modern English. This translation is more literal than rhyming translations such as those made by Andrew Porter or Lionel Salter. The reader will find Bassett's "free translation" useful both for study of the text alone and when listening to a recording of "Parsifal".
