Jim Grant: UNICEF Visionary
Published in Paperback by UNICEF (24 September, 2001)
Authors: Peter Adamson and Richard Jolly
Amazon base price: $10.00
Average review score:

We Needed This Book!
We needed this book. As you read it, it becomes more and more satisfying. And the final section with selected portions of Jim Grant's own speeches becomes a worthy and memorable climax. It is amazaing to find that a person we thought we knew so well emerges as so much more than we suspected. His commitment is truly moving, and the cheerfulness and enthusiasm with which he stuck to it is equally impressive.
What now remains is for Grant's mission to be completed by others. That story remains to be seen. It already seems clear that his contribution will be lasting. The editor's work with Jim Grant must have been a marvellous period in his own life. I think he has made a very fine job with this book.

My Favorite New York Guide Book
This is my favorite New York Guidebook. I lived in New York City for 5 years, and although I was in my thirties, whenever my friends would come to visit me in New York, I would pull out my Kid's Guide to New York to remind me of the most fun things to do in the city. Too bad it is 12 years old. Much of the material is still valuable, and it wouldn't take much to update it for 2002. I'd like to give a copy to a 9 year old who will be visiting the city for the first time next month.

La danza del cambio

Amazon base price: $39.95

Surealistic Irony clashes with pornography
Apollinair creates a novel about a noble that lives a very vivid sex life, almost all sexual standards are shot down in this excellent parade of perverted minds that fill the characters...Excellent fot the reader who does not fear to read something that might be socially unacceptable, though really entertaining. Concerning literature, the book has all that could characterise any other book as a great creation.

This was the only book which really helped explain it!
As a stroke survivor, I can honestly say that this is the one to own. It explains your stroke to both you and your family in laymen's terms, yet never speaks down to you or leaves you feeling hopeless. A must for the stroke survivor and his/her family.

Modern Legal Drafting : A Guide to Using Clearer Language
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (2001)
Authors: Peter Butt and Richard Castle
Amazon base price: $60.00
Average review score:

A British book that U.S. lawyers can use.
The book is for lawyers in Great Britain and Commonwealth nations like Australia and New Zealand. So the examples may strike U.S. lawyers as odd or old. But the principles are still valid, and the advice is still practical. The book explains how to draft in a clear, modern style. It provides before-and-after texts, examples of litigation-causing terms, and authoritative discussions of grammar, punctuation, and tone for the legal drafter.

It also has two things I haven't seen in other drafting books: (1) an informative discussion of the historical causes of bad legal drafting, and (2) a history of the plain English movement in England, Commonwealth nations, and the U.S.

A startling and important new voice
Peter Richards' second collection of poems, _Nude Siren_, is wildly alive and at play in its own magically attractive worlds. These poems are clearly explorations, experimentations by a poet who loves words--loves the taste of them, the texture, the way they drip through his fingers onto the page...
This is a book that contemporary poets should own. It teaches us to embrace the "inner suggestions" the mornings "suggest to themselves and to me / who cannot hear the morning." It is a book to be kept under your pillow, to be taken out only when you feel capable of setting yourself adrift through his many "Bulb[s] of Percussion." At times whimsical, at times dark, always sincere and thoroughly convincing, these poems will grab you on the inside, in places you didn't even know you had.

Horn missed the point!
If you have a child of any age, ignore Horn's review and get this book! Maybe if enough people try to get it used, they'll bring it out of the graveyard and reprint this charming and exceptionally well-written and touchingly illustrated book. This book's message of caring, forgiveness, dedication, and love comes out every time I read this with my children! The fancifulness of the story only reinforces the important message within, and makes the heartbreaking conflict in the middle that much more redemptive in the end! If you want to know what's wrong with our society, it's that books this good don't get read to every kid by their parents! This one ranks among the top stories for kids of all time, and should be given it's due. Do yourself and your kids a favor and GET THIS BOOK!

An essential to your core library for Neurology practice.
This two volume text is an essential reference and mandatory reading for any Neurology resident or Staff Physician. I had the opportunity to train under the instruction of many of the contributors to this text. I found it to be rich in detail and clinical expertise. I refer to it often in my practice. It is concise and easily understood.
