A timeless CLASSIC!
The first biography I ever read was this book on Clara Barton, wayyyyyy back in 1974! I am proud to say that my daughter recently chose to study Clara Barton for HER first biography, and wouldn't you know it, the book she got from the library was THE SAME BOOK that I read all those years ago. It is just as inspiring and informative as I remembered it to be...the illustrations are beautiful, and the story is presented in an easy-to-understand format that children will enjoy. I'm glad to see it is still available for purchase. Truly a classic piece of literature!!

It's more than a love story; it was wonderful!
Pershall does a wonderful job in keeping with historical facts, while writing one terrific love story. Her two main characters are so likeable. This book makes you feel as if your right there in the story. I could not put the book down, I was sorry to see it end.

Invisible On Everest blends History, Reseach and Adventure
Whether you are a world-class mountain climber, whose life is dependent on the gear you take on your next Himalayan expedition, or an arm-chair historian interested in the fascinating innovations that made the assent of Everest possible - this book is a must read.

Invisible On Everest blends tales of high adventure and tragedy with a thoroughly researched history of the innovations that made mountain climbing, and other adventure sports, a multi-million dollar industry.

Particularly fascinating are the chapters involving women's climbing apparel and widening middle-class participation of mountain climbing throughout the early part of the last century.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in climbing or in the history early cold-weather explorers and adventurers.

Invisible On Everest is an enjoyable read and a great reference guide to understanding the evolution of cold-weather and high-altitude survival gear. It is fascinating to discover how the right gear makes the difference between success and failure.

A superb rethink of the whole architectural process
The book tells the story of Alexander's et al design for the museum to house the Mary Rose, Henry VIII's ship raised from the sea. The design process was interesting and very consistent with previous works, and has not been executed yet. What was mind bending for me was the total rethink on money and construction budgeting. Like a Pattern Language the budget and the construction schedule become part of the Architect's services, not just something that has to be dealt with after everything has been drawn. Alexander proposed that his group would serve as the general contractor for the benefit of the project. The owner's payments would be slightly in advance of completed work, instead of crunching contractor's and subs time and money. The architects would have authority to reallocate time and money to make the building better, not the contractor's pockets fatter. All to make the building live!

Lovely book
There are so few books today (even for kids) that are about unabashed joy, rather than scary things. This is a delightful, refreshing story with suitably adorable illustrations. I want to buy it for all the young children (and even some of the adults) I know!

Where is my Toshiro?
I fell in love with this book several years ago (6 or so) after borrowing it from a small library in my town that has since shut down. Then I couldn't find the book anywhere! Thanks to sites like this and people selling out of print books used, I was able to get it again--and read it 2 more times (in addition to the first two times when I had had it)!

You will fall in love with this sweet, gentle, yet amazingly masculine, virile male. He is so human in quality that you could just imaging him existing somewhere in the world---I'm hoping he does. This book is a MUST READ!

POETRY AND CRITICISM FOR STUDENTS:EXCELLENT
This book has poetry criticism for the most popular poems studied in the high school and college students. It also includes the complete text for each poem reviewed. This book is excellent for a smaller library that cant afford to buy 72 volumes of literary criticisms.
