An Impact Far Beyond The Literal Subject
How rare it is to find a work with such impact written with economy of language and genuine, honest sense of humor. This book should be required for students of teaching (as it is in some courses at the University of Chicago) and non-teachers alike.

A tao of teaching
Politicians and Superintendents should find this book in their required reading list this year. Principals who are humanitarians will have another arrow in their quiver for the view of learning over state evaluation. Teachers who love kids and not tests will love the views put forth in this book. Written as an application towards writing and literature, I am looking forwad to using the ideas to teach a course called LIFE - within the four walls of my music room.

Perky Puppets With a Purpose: A Complete Guide to Puppetry & Ventriloquism in Christian Ministry

Great Christian teaching resource
This is an excellent book and includes patterns for puppets as well as puppet scripts. It's so good I bought a copy for myself plus two other copies for Christian friends

Excellent source for anyone involved in a puppetry ministry.
This is an all-inclusive guide designed for the use of puppets in Children's Christian Ministry. The first part of the book focuses on the basics of puppetry, including such topics as ventriloquism, puppet movements, and developing a puppet's character. The author, Mary Rose Pearson, then devotes Chapter 6 to the use of puppets specifically to teach God's Word. This emphasis is continued throughout the book, which I found to be especially helpful. The next section includes instructions for constructing various types of stages, props, and numerous puppets. Patterns for the puppets are included (need to be enlarged), and range from simple sock and paper bag puppets to more complex designs - there's even directions to make the Jonah puppet come out of the mouth of the whale puppet! Although the more complicated designs require some sewing ability, the instructions are clear and easy to understand. The illustrations are also helpful. The last portion of the book includes over 35 biblical dialogues and three plays, using the puppets previously presented. Each script contains the scripture references and the lesson theme. An index of lesson themes is also included. I found this book to be very helpful. The author's extensive experience in this Christian ministry is evident throughout. I'm both suprised and delighted with the amount of information, suggestions, patterns, and ideas that are crammed into these 160 pages, and would recommend this to anyone who would like to use puppets in their ministry.

The Great American Novel
A true classic. Action, suspense, and dog training! With many, many pictures of photo-man! Don't miss it!

Fantastic guide to training a real family friend & protector
Weiss & Tom Rose, his co-author, are American experts in the German dog sport, Schutzhund ("protection dog"). Explaining principles and methods they used in training champion protection dogs, the authors demonstrate how to select and train a dog that will not only protect your home, but also be a friendly compainion to your family and friends. Anyone can go out and find a mean, angry dog that will protect a house just as well as it will bite your guests. Likewise, anyone can find a dog so friendly that it will lick your child's face just as easily as asking an intruder to shake its paw. Finding and training a dog that will protect your home but also romp and play with your freinds and loved ones is far, far more difficult. Let these experts show you the way.

A Stunning Novel!
A great story, lots of twists and turns to see where it is going. The narrator gives a fascinating look at what it's like to be disabled.

Track it down
Warning. This is not your typical Agatha Christie. This isn't even a typical mystery. It's a tragedy, a gothic and a love story about an ethereal young woman, the three men who loved her and the fruit of her incredible sacrifice.

The best book you can read about the Blessed Virgin Mary
I havn't read every book about Mary, but I know a classic when I read it, and this book falls in that category. The sub-title "The Virgin Mary in History, Art, & Apparition" aptly summarizes the main themes. Mr. Martin traces the historical flowering of Mary's influence in Christendom. This is seen from the very beginning of the church and proves to be a guiding factor in keeping the Church from being ship-wrecked on the rocks of error and enemies. In addition to history and theology, the artistry of Marian paintings, cathedrals (such as Chartres), and music are also appraised and found to be valuble anchors to keep to us grounded in the truth. Finally, the apparitions reinforce the theme that Mary's work did not end when she gave birth to our Lord. She continues to draw people to Christ through miracles and messages which are difficult to ignore. The Remnant newspaper's book reviewer says, "I can think of no better book on the subject written in the last fifteen years." The National Catholic Register calls it "A Marian Tour De Force. . . the book stimulates the mind and enflames the spirit in equal measure." In addition to a beautifully written book, there are some beautiful art reproductions. Order one today and chances are you will order more later for gifts.

A beautiful study of the most important woman in history
Whether you are part of the Judeo/Christian tradition or not, it would be impossible to name a woman who has more influence in the history of the world than the Mary of Nazareth, the mother of Jesus Christ. More paintings, sculptures, music, and architecture has been dedicated to and inspired by this remarkable, singular woman who lived nearly two thousand years ago in Asia Minor. Believers and non-believers alike can learn an immense amount from this truly well written book. I highly recommend it!

Stunning photography and fascinating text
Written in the bricks is more that just a beautiful coffee-table book. The stories contained in the accompanying text really highlight the uniqueness of Mississippi and its people. Rather than simply describing the photographs, the text invites the reader to see beyond the walls to the people who inspired the architecture and worked on the buildings. I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the deep south, its architecture, and its heritage. I cannot recommend this book more highly.

Gorgeous book
The author and photographer have done a great job of making Mississippi's history come alive. The text tells a story rather than just repeating what is written in history books, and the photographs show both the beauty and sometimes starkness of the historical sites. A good choice for history buffs and for anyone who enjoys architectural history.
