Learn, Practice and Live, Indeed!
This book by Miller-Tiedeman is a fascinating 'read' from both the academic and everyman perspective. The broad range of attributions from many different disciplines is both impressive and generous spirited while the down-to-earth examples are pr actical, focused and grounding.

Jungians could read this book for its empowering and containing principles (pages 61-80) of living life-as-career. Miller-Tiedeman's principles bring Jung's theoretical constructs into everyday, concrete and therefore, workable guidelines.

Teachers and students could read this book for its clarity of layout, suggestions for deepening the teachings as well as broadening the awareness.

Last, but far from least, Oprah Winfrey and her legions could read this as a primer for embracing the spirit. Thank you, Anna Miller-Tiedeman.

Reaching the Soul, Stretching the Mind
Dr. Miller-Tiedeman's book, Learning, Practicing, and Living the New Careering, has the ability to reach the soul while stretching the reader's mind. She has brought spirit into the career field through her grounding of the New Careering in the philosophy of Quantum physics, the late David Bohm's notion of wholeness, Buckminster Fuller's right and left proposition, and Self Organizing Systems Theory--all of which support the continual evolvement of life in its fullness. To bring ideas from this strong literature into an everyday philosophy as well as a researchable theory, in a field bogged down by careers and jobs, is nothing short of genius. Does it get any better than this? I don't think so. This is a 5 star book if there ever was one.

Finally, A Book That Acknowledged My Life Process
When I read Learning, Practicing, and Living the New Careering, I could not put it down. It swept me off into a real and familiar world. Miller-Tiedeman's writing of this book is as gentle, believable and genuine as her theory. It is a book that takes hold of readers and carries them through a new exploration of themselves and the world around them because Lifecareering® is the stuff of our lives

Dr. Anna Miller-Tiedeman's book, Learning, Practicing, and Living the New Careering, is a career theory that finally offers a clear and concise theory that one can live as well as use. Other theories, break the career and client into parts making it more difficult to sense the wholeness of life. On the other hand, Lifecareer® is understandable and applicable because it deals with the person as a whole as he or she cooperates with the approaching forces in his or her life. That's why considering life, not job, as the big career makes so much sense. Life is something we can relate to, understand, and realize its profound affect on our job choice. But the focus on life and each individual approach to it is the essential part in this theory.

Dr. Miller-Tiedeman does not write this book to impress or to stagnate us with the past. Instead she shares a view of the future of career counseling freeing us from old career paradigms. Lifecareer® gives us the satisfaction of a cherished life with jobs as only a segment of that. We're invited to ingest the New Careering principles and philosophy at our own personal speed and this attention to our own rhythms does enhance our lives. I highly recommend this book for anyone searching for a fresh personal approach to career as well as a better future for career counseling.

A Subjective View from a Stuy Alumni
Never have I been prouder to be a graduate of Stuyvesant High School. On the morning of September 11th, when hijackers were flying the first plane into the WTC, I was shopping in the Cortlandt street Borders. I immediately left the store and sought comfort in my school, making it to the bridge just in time to see the second plane hook around and plow into the tower. I witnessed September 11th with the writers of the book; I was fortunate enough to work with Annie Thoms on my senior production of SING, months after the tragedy. While the stories are much more touching when heard in the people's own words...or at least performed on stage, as they were last year, the book touches you just the same. You don't have to know the ones telling their stories to feel what they did. The children are universal; their pain was all of New York's pain, was all of America's pain. And they have all prevailed since then, which gives the book such a happy ending. I am not a sappy person. I did not cry the day of the attacks. But I cried when I read this book. Even if only because it provides a sense of closure.

Absolutely a great book!
This is absolutely the best book I have seen this year. This nonfiction book really, and I mean really, tells the stories of what it was like to not only go to school their but also to work there. Stuyvesant high school is ranked number one in the country for a reason! These children, especially the ones who haven't been there for long, really got involved and brought out the best in this play which makes such a great book! I was fortunate enough to see this play both days and I was fortunate enough to witness a wonderful performance from all ten actors, and witness the producing and promotion talents of both producers, and a most special direction by both directors! Buy This Book! What's This Called you ask? IT'S WITH THEIR EYES!!!!

Not Just Another Sad 9/11 story . . .
This book is amazing. Everyone living in New York on September 11th has their own 9/11 story. . .This book tells students and teachers from Stuy's stories about 9/11 and its aftermath. The book tells the untold stories of the students and teaches.. . .At first I though this book was just going to be 10 different accounts of planes hitting the WTC. . .but it is not that at all. Instead it is personal accouts of how 9/11 touched their lives. I recomend this book to everyone, especially people not from New York who want to comprehend how September 11th affected and changed lives

Helpful Guide
David's love of iguanas in general and Anna in particular comes through loud and clear in this touching story and helpful guide to caring for iguanas correctly. Anna my green friend discusses food, housing, bedding, disease prevention and treatment, basking lights, and much more that the novice iguana owner should be familiar with before they go out and buy an iguana.
It's a must-read for anyone considering adding an iguana to their household.

This book and It's author are second to none!
Some books are fun to read, and some books teach. " Anna my green friend", DOES BOTH! I really enjoyed reading this book, and you will too! Please read this book for your Iguana's sake, that is, if you want a happy and healthy green friend too.

Anna My Green Friend
I would highly recommend this iguana lovers of all shapes and sizes. Its a great book to non-iguana lovers to read as well as it is very informative and interesting. I am very glad that I purchased it.

big help for brothers and sisters
I think this book helps big brothers and sisters to acept the new child and show that they can help the new child to understand the world around them. I really like the realistic illustrations, because it helps to understand the story, it shows good behavior and it is very interesting!

great for big brother or sister
My 2 1/2 year old loves looking at all the pictures and talking about how he will soon show his new baby how to drink from a big boy cup, crawl under chairs, share dad's lap, and open birthday presents. Perfect length for toddlers to enjoy. Wonderful book!

SOOOOO Special
Even though my children are 9 and 13 now, they still remember how this book spoke to my 13-year-old when her younger brother was born. Anna Grossnickle Hines captures the gentle wonderment and protectiveness that so many children initially feel toward "their" new babies. Sure, later on, there may well be rivalry, resentment, feeling less unique, etc., etc. (and there are plenty of books around that attempt to deal with this). But, I am so grateful that the author has so simply, respectfully, and eloquently recorded the essence of that very special relationship between two siblings, as it is born.

moving but depressing
this book was pretty good becauseit made me feel a lot different about harassment and it really moved me. i only gave it four stars tho because it was a bit disturbing and depressing.
the story is about this girl named anna. she was new in her school and she had no friends. then this girl named hailey offers to show her around, soon they become best friends. they do everything together. life seems grea for anna,
then one day hailey drops her. she stops talking to anna for some reason. hopefully, anna thinks it is jst a phase and she waits. but it doesnt get better. hailey becomes nasty. playing rude tricks on poor anna, anna doesnt know what to do.
the harassment becomes worse, even violent. and anna is left to one last solution, an over dose. her mother finds her in the bathroom with 3 notes and her journal.while anna is at the hospital, her mother and father read her journal. in there the story of anna comes out.

Touching and Sad
This novel was so good it was fresh and new and the events that take place have sure been real problems in all schools the way the main character is victimised by a former friend pushes her over the edge and into complete madness, to understand this book you have to read it. it is a quick story but wow does it have a powerful message hidden in the text! I am sure everyone could relate to the main character at one time or another in their life the pure hatred and emotions she experiences. a very endering novel

Wonderful book
This is one of my favourite books. It truly illustrated what goes on behind adults' backs these days, and besides that, it was British! It is powerful and moving, and Anna, Melanie, and Hayley Parkin are true-to-life characters. Excellent book, highly recommended by me.

Fun with Elmo
My son loves books, this one is fun because he can look at whats under the flaps and learn to count, find things that match and find opposites. He plays awhile looking at this, he received this when he was 2 years old and now he is 4 years old.

A book that you have to buy
My two years old son reads this book every day. Each page has one theme. My son loves to use his interpretation and imagination to describe what the sesame street muppets are doing and talking about to each other. After my friends read this book, they all ask me to order it for them. Now I have ordered four more for them.

One you will need - or let your kid be moron
Worth the money. Teach your baby with YOUR pleasure - he/she will be delighted.

Not all of Sesame Str. books are so great as this one (e.g. I warn you: do NOT buy "Tickle me Elmo"). You and your kid will be delighted uncovering things (I discover the clown's toothpaste after two weeks...)

Really nice and helpful with development of the child.

MUST READ FOR PARENT WITH A CHILD WITH HLHS
I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR THE BOOK I WISH IT HAD BEEN AVAIABLE TO OUR FAMILY WHEN OUR SON KODEY WAS BORN IN 1995. HE HAS HYPOPLASTIC LEFT HEART ALONG WITH A FEW OTHER PROBLEMS. THAT OCCURED TO THE FACT HE WAS A PREMMIE AND THE RESULT OF HIS SURGERIES. BUT THANKS TO A WONDERFUL CARDIOLOGIST DR.DANIEL SCHNEIDER AND SURGEON MARSHALL JACOBS AND THE STAFF AT CHILDRENS HOSPITAL OF PHILA.WHERE HAD BEEN FLOWN TO AND HAS HAD STAGES 1 AND 2 OF THE NORWOOD PROCEDURE. HE MADE IT AND IS NOW 4 YEARS OLD AND STILL A FIGHTER HE HAS OVERCOME MANY OSTACLES IN HIS 4 YEARS. BUT THANKS TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO WRITE SUCH A WONDERFUL INFORMATIVE BOOK IT WILL HELP MANY FAMILIES IN THE FUTURE. IT SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TO THE FAMILIES OF SPECIAL ANGELS THAT HAVE HYPOPLASTIC LEFT HEART IN THE CARDIOLOGISTS OFFICE. MY HEART GOES OUT TO EACH FAMILY WITH A CHILD WITH THIS HEART DEFECT. DEBBIE SLAUGHTER VIRGINIA BEACH VIRGINIA

extremely easy to understand
This book was given to me by a hospital administrator 2 weeks after my son underwent the Norwood operation. My husband and I had spent the last 3 weeks studying the internet, and books that were made available to us by the nurses, and found nothing that explained Colin's defect the way this book did. Not only that, but we were hard-pressed to find stories of other children with HLHS. Mrs. Jaworski's book provided us with a bit of inspiration that had been unavailable to us before.

Very informative, easy to understand .
I found this book through my local library after the death of my son Cameron, he was only 12 days old. After his death we were told he had HLHS. If we had been aware of his condition I think your book would have been one of the best places for us to find information.

california cool
saxenian argues that silicon valley's competitive advantage is the vast network of small firms that compose silicon valley and cross pollinate each other. she compares the valley to the route 128 area in boston which she classifies as detrimentally hierarchical, even puritanical.

AWSOME!
The best book I have ever read concerning High Tech culture. Everyone should read this book to better understand how to motivate info exchange and networking among our society and world.

Excellent Structural Analysis
Contrary to one of the other reviewer's comments, the importance of this book is in showing precicely that it is not the "endemic" culture of Silicon Valley, but rather the innovative institutions and networked relationships in Silicon Valley that explains the region's success. A great contribution to the literature on embeddedness and network forms of organization.

Anna Karenin
Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (1977)
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $4.89
Average review score:

Mildly Dissapointing
I found this book slightly dissapointing after reading "War and Peace". If I had read this first, I might be saying it's the greatest thing ever, but I just didn't think it had the same energy and life that "War and Peace" had. Tolstoy seemed to go through agony writing the book and it shows. The problem is the characters just don't come to life as much. Anna and Vronsky are just too shallow to be truly tragic. Anna comes close at the end with her utterly despairing observations on life just before her suicide, but that was too little too late. And Levin and Kitty are likable but I thought the Pierre-Natasha love story was much better. Levin is a little too stiff--Pierre is Bill Clinton and Levin is Al Gore.

I think heroic epics and Religious tracts were more in Tolstoy's nature. Tragedy was not. I know Tolstoy suffered from depression and had a dark side, but I don't think he had a tragic view of the world overall and he seems to be straining here. Every great writer has to write a tragedy to be considered truly great. I wonder if he subconsciously wrote this as an assignment to be considered a Literary God.

Maybe this is unfair. It's clearly a work of genius but it just didn't personally move me as much as that other BIG Tolstoy book.
But still worth reading for any serious fan of literature.

A Great Read!
This is one of my favorite books of all time! Though Anna Karenin is not necessarily an easy or quick read, you will thank yourself for persevering and reading this book. Tolstoi has an amazing way with characterization and descriptive narrative. He managed to find just the right words or phrase something in just such a way as to evoke real feeling from the reader; you can truly identify with the character/situation at those moments and appreciate the literary beauty of this novel throughout. Happy reading!

The best tragedy ever written
Anna Karenin, I believe, was the novel that started the divorce genre. It is one of the greatest tragedies ever written in the 19th century, possibly the best book ever produced. I know there are many readers out there, who shy away from reading long books, and yes, Leo Tolstoy's text can be challenging at times for the unlearned reader, but the story is so worth it. In the first chapter the reader is immediately given a conflict, a family dishevel spawned by Oblonsky's affair with the household's governess, and from there is taken into another fiasco caused by Anna Kerenin's affair with a young military officer, Count Vronsky, that can only end in ruin. In those times, there was no Jerry Springer show or the practice of divorce as a science, so the populace was always in constant abhorrence of elopement between husband and wife. When I read the book, I immediately felt sorry for Anna, a young woman played cruelly into loving another heartthrob by unwanted advances, then corrupted in the process. A hundred fifty years ago, a wife was thought of as property, not an individual who may have had similar interests and aspirations in life as the man. They never lived away from family and were regarded in society exclusively as baby bearers. It is depressing to see how horrible females were treated in Russia during those times and the book stands as a testimonial to how far women have come since its publication. Being an impatient reader myself, it is hard for me to read through big books without putting an interesting face to a character. Sam Neill (Dr. Graham, from Jurassic Park) was an inseparable caparison to Mr. Karenin, the official husband of Anna Karenin. To see Sam Neill in the character was like seeing a perfectly done movie with characters matched for the part. It was hard not to see a young Terri Hatcher (Louis Lane, Louis and Clark the New Adventures of Superman) in Anna, or Keanu Reeves (Police Officer Jack Tavern, Speed) in Count Vronsky. One of my favorite characters in this book is Levin, a Richard Chamberlain of the 19th century (for those who don't know of the actor Richard Chamberlain he played a stunning performance as the red bearded John Blackthorne in James Clavell's Shogun mini-series). Levin's character holds vitality, strength, and love for the untamed land. Even though he is a man of high propriety, he enjoys working with the peasants. There is a remarkable part in the book that details Levin's cooperation with his servants in threshing hay for the harvest. The character was based on Leo Tolstoy's own traits and desires to live a simpler life away from the hustle and bustle of society.

If you have recently been through a divorce or are going through a troublesome marriage, I encourage you to read this book. It should never be substituted for the Holy Bible, but kept just as a reminder to how insignificant your problems may have seemed to your great great great grandmothers.
