If you're wanting to hear music that is both refreshing and uplifting, Shawn Christopher is the artist for you. Not only is her soulful voice deeply penetrating to the senses, but her subtle nuances in every song add a rich flavor similar to that of the stylings of Aretha, Chaka Khan, and other powerhouse divas. It's a shame she has not been recognized or acclaimed like she should be. All in all she is a well-rounded artist with much to offer to the listener.

I heard this in a club & I immediately fell in love with it...it's a remake of the famous Michael McDonald hit and is melodious enough to make even the most boring people get up and boogie...this album is definitely worth purchasing if you're looking for something good & different.

In this pre-marxist work of the Young Lukács, he takes advantege of the German Romantic myth of the Homeric epic as the hallmark of a supposedly "unalienated" civilization, where the individual was his envinronment and had no need to develop the kind of alienated, subjective self-consciousness we find in the bourgeois XIXth Century novel. Of course this is a modern myth, based on a very selective reading of Homer's epic - which already betrayed a clear consciousness of the divide existing between the Human and the Divine, as well as of a further divide between the mythical Heroic age and the everyday realities of an archaic class society. Neverthless, this modern myth came to form the core of Lukács' lifelong research programme - the study of alienation, which came to form much of the best research of Western Marxism (after reading Lukács'work one can not imagine Adorno and Horkheimer's _Dialectic of the Enlightnment_ being written without Lukács' starting stone). A must-read, therefore, for anyone interested in Western Marxism in general, as well as Lukács and the Frankfurt School in particular.

The "Theory of the Novel" (1916) is the major work of Lukacs' pre-Marxist period. It is extremely useful both as a kind of document of the feverish intellectual atmosphere of pre-WW I Europe and as one of the underground classics (together with his "History and Class Consciousness" (1923)) that influenced what was later to become the Western Marxism of the Frankfurt School. Lukacs' pre-Marxist prose style, comparable to that of his friend Ernst Bloch's, may seem excessively romantic at times but the overall effect is that theory seems to come alive as the expression of a living human being undergoing an intense personal crisis. The first part of the book discusses the rise of the crisis of interpretation that is represented by the novel as a literary form when it is placed in contrast to the fullness of meaning perceivable in the earlier epic, the form which the novel presumably replaced. Lukacs' discussion of the fundamental dichotomy tearing apart at European civilization from within parallels kindred works such as Nietszches' "The Birth of Tragedy" (with its Apollonian/Dionysian schema) and Toennies' classic work of sociology "Gemeinschaft und Gesellschaft." Also instructive to the student of literature would be a comparison of Lukacs' model with that of Auerbach's "Mimesis" and Bakhtin's contrast of the epic and the novel. The second part of this book is an application of this binaristic framework to novels by Cervantes, Balzac, Flaubert, Goethe, Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. While this whole second part is incredibly rich in insights, Lukacs' application of the Bergsonian notion of time as duree to his study of Flaubert's "L'Education sentimentale" is particularly unforgettable. There, he writes: "Time is the resistance of the organic."

I am a 15-year-old fellow author who has been published by Landmark Editions. My book, "Don't Bug Me!", won the competition the year after Anna's.

I still remember recieving her book in the mail for the first time. I was in awe. The artistry, the writing. Out of all the Landmark books, her's was the one I turned to for further inspiration. Even though my book is on a completely different topic, I still feel Anna's jumpstarted me in the right direction.

After I won the competition, I hoped that I would be able to meet Anna and tell her how much I loved her book. The editors at Landmark would always say to me, "We should never get you and Anna in the same room. You'd be laughing all night."

When I learned of Anna's death, it saddended me greatly. She was extrodinarily talented, and was a great loss to the writing and illustrating community. She will be truly missed.

I strongly suggest you to read "The Timekeeper". It is a book of rare form, for an author at any age.

As a personal friend of Anna, I was hurt very much by her death. This book was her finest accomplisment in art and in writing, but her life was a greater work than her book. For anyone who has not read the Timekeeper, I encourage you to do so.

I have yet to FULLY finish the book, but so far it has been GREAT! I am though, dissapointed that the editors and reviewers had to spoil the book for me and tell me that Anna's aunt dies. But, I'm on page 50 of 156, not really FULLY finished. Well, great details, very hard to put down. You feel like you are REALLY there! Well, fully recomended to anyone. A must-read book!

I read "Tom Loves Anna Loves Tom, " and was quickly engaged in the love trials of Tom and Anna. This story is better than most, it has unexpected turns everywhere you look! I highly reccomend reading this book if you like authors such as Colby Rodowsky.

Best Turtle/Tortoise book I have seen yet. Comprehensive and well written. Enjoyable with great photos.

Turtle and tortise expert Ferri provides an in-depth and colorful detailing of almost two hundred land, marine and freshwater species of turtles and tortoises, with hundreds of color photos and drawings providing a strong visual background for identification. An excellent library reference for any collection serious about natural history.

I enjoyed learning some of the local history of Texas from an ordinary person's view, especially since this person was my great grandfather. I had never heard the stories from any family member before. The descriptions of events and locales really brought home a sense of family. It shows that small events shape a country as well as large events. It also reminded me how much history can be lost unless someone takes the time to write it down.

Based on diaries written in the late 1800s, Under The Texas Sun tell the story of a young boy, born during the Civil War, who grows up in East Texas and goes to work on the big ranches in West Texas. True stories written by his granddaughter who inherited his diaries and who recalls sitting by her grandfather's side as he reminisced about his youthful escapades.

This book is full of charm, wit and excellent writing. The characters are richly drawn, quirky and entertaining. Wesley has a way of pinning down the fine details of human behavior and showing them in a sympathetic but humorous light. Poppy's vacillations are completely understandable and her struggles to get herself unstuck from a bad relationship are tragic yet funny. Wesley gives her characters the kind of dignity that makes us love them, even when they are not being very loveable. This is the mark of a great writer.

I've read all the Mary Wesley books I can find, and this one is my favorite. It's better if you have read her _The_Camomile_ Lawn_ first; but this is a very different book, lighter-hearted than some of her stories. It is funny, sometimes touching, and refuses to turn out the way you expect. Really delightful.

Part of a quartet of books by the same author and illustrator, What Can You Do in the Sun, presents pictures of joy in the simple pleasures of the summer. The illustrations evoke images of a childhood well spent in wholesome outdoor experiences. Sadly, these may not be experienced by many children unless parents take the ideas from these little books to heart and let their children lead the way. Have fun making and chasing rainbows!

A sweet look on the beauty and power of the sun. Contains excellent color illustrations and will be of interest on the Kindergarten level.

A friend of mine gave me a copy of this book recently when I was in the hospital. She gives out copies of it for graduations, weddings, birthdays, and all similar life-marking occasions. I was so blessed to get a copy of it! I also now give it (or suggest it) for just about every important occasion. I plan to reread it every year on my birthday. This is a perfect book for those occasions when we need to take a long hard look at our lives. There's no adult of any age who wouldn't benefit from reading this book, at least once, and really thinking about it. I suggest that you imagine, as you read it, that you are very old and have lived a long life, and you are now looking back at yourself present-day. There are so many things that are unimportant, that get in our way, that take up our precious time, while life is so very very short. How does your perspective change? You'll be amazed at how differently you look at (your new chance at) life when you're finished reading.

Anna Robertson Brown was the daughter of a Presbyterian minister and the first woman to graduate with a Ph.D in English from the University of Pennsylvania. We tend to assign such great importance to people and situations in life that only weigh us down, both emotionally and physically. One line in her book provided enough insight to provide a lifetime of reflection. She writes, " We may drop worry...Worry is spiritual near-sightedness; a fumbling way of looking at little things, and of magnifying their value." If one believes that all things are in the hands of God, how can one give themself to worry in any case? In the eternal scheme of things, we tend to view things in an immediate context. This book was chosen as a 2001 American Library Assoc. Pick of the Lists book. The photos and art are exceptionally nice. It's a really good easy-to-read book about cats at my kids' (who are 7 and 8 yrs.) reading level.
