Grover and one of many life's challenges
Grover is great monster, one of best indeed. He filled my life with joy after reading OH, IM SO EMBARRASSED over and over again. I must have read OH, IM SO EMBARRASSED over 300 times this week alone (not getting sick of it once). There was one occasion where I had cried when Grover was embarrassed because it reminded me of my past troubles with the law. I would recommend this book to all the laughing happies in this world, including the sads. I love you Grover and your book about embarrassment. Thank you, Thank you soooo much.

Groover Strikes Again
I thought that this was a very good book for young kids. I even liked. By reading this book you get an understanding of the challengeslittle kids face while growing up. This book delt with groover being embarrassed about things that had happend to him. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes the Sesame Street books.

A modern-day classic
Simply put, you won't find better writing. On the surface a coming-of-age novel, young Anna's story touches on just about everything that matters: love, sex, betrayal, loyalty, truth. This is a book that you can read again and again. It's something of a well-kept secret, but we should share the wealth: Read this book and then tell every book lover you know.

Beautiful paperback of this modern masterpiece
I was delighted to see that this wonderful novel was being reissued in paperback. Snap it up now, before the vagueries of market forces get their way with this work, a rare touching piece of literary fiction! Plot, characterization and setting all tell perfectly the story of a girl coming of age, but above all, the writing is what makes me come back to this work again and again. A real command for portraying the complex magic realism of everyday life make this head shoulders one of the top published works in America in this year, or any.

Wonderful story, pictures, rhymes
This is one of those sweet, gentle books that a child will remember for years to come. The pictures are beautiful, the rhymes almost lyrical and on top of it all, it teaches counting. It's especially fun when the child realizes that other animals in the picture also add up to the same number as the main animal (5 ladybugs, 5 leaves, 5 stones, etc.). My little boy has requested this book consistently for the past year and he's almost 4. Something we'll save for his children.

Cute Little Animals
This is my 3 year old daughter's favorite book. I read er, sing it to her several times a day. Each page is like a new treat, this book is beautifully illustrated. Each page has a certain number of animals, and the same number of other things for your child to find. On the four little rattie's page, there are 4 baby rats(which are adorable), there are also 4 ears of corn, 4 chickens, etc. It has been extrememly helpful for counting practice. Before my daughter knew the name of the book she called it the cute little animal book. After a month, this book still has top honor on my kids' bookshelf, with the fickleness of my children, that is saying a lot.

Noailles rising
Captivating study in English of Anna de Noailles' poetry. Perry allows us to discover this powerful woman who had such an impact in France at the turn of the century and up to her early death in 1933. An incredibly thorough study with numerous and qualitative translations of Noailles' verse and poetic prose. Anna de Noailles has been well served!

neglected French poet gets her due
A celebrated poet in France during her lifetime, Anna de Noailles (1876-1933) gradually lost critical attention after her death, This book, the first on the poet to appear in English, reexamines her extensive poetry and prose, alongside manuscripts and private documents' in relation to the works of French and European artists and thinkers from among her predecessors as well as her contemporaries The author shows how this woman of foreign origins envisioned and constructed an original poetic world by actively engaging with her literary and intellectual heritage-as represented by Lamartine, Hugo, Baudelaire, Mallamre, Proust, Schopenhauer, and Rilke, among others--while discovering vital sources of inspiration in her Greek ancestry and in Nietzsche's groundbreaking Philosophy. Not only did Noailles create a distinctive voice in the world of French letters but her influence reached writers of both genders in France, in other European countries, and across the Atlantic. Best understood in terms of a Dionysian aesthetics, her work is sensual, erotic, and playful, but also reflective, violent on occasion, and always marked by a tragic undercurrent that becomes magnified with time. Beyond the prominent place she held in the world of French letters, Noailles' lifelong commitment to artistic creation invites a reconsideration of her work.
Through the focusing lens of Anna de Noailles, Persephone Unbound revives multiple facets of the culture in which she wrote. More crucially still, it reevaluates a writer whose historical stature and whose incorporation by the French establishment as a representative of "feminine" poetry have tended to overshadow her literary merits. With respect to her poetry in particular, critics have often failed to recognize the modernity of its lyric voice on account of its traditional verse patterns. Reflecting a dual attitude of competition and cooperation with her cultural world, Noailles held a similarly doublevoiced discourse toward conventional interpretations of woman. Her classification in literary history as a belated French Romantic further obfuscates the significance of her work While recognizing her predecessors, Noailles was frequently unable to find adequate models in their works for a distinct poetic identity. In seeking new versions of the feminine self she acknowledged women who were unable to write and, more broadly, she attempted to provide a formerly silent Muse with voice and presence. Noailles' Greek inheritance also enabled her to reclaim mythical figures such as those of Persephone and Antigone, and thus to invigorate the link that French poetry had established with antiquity. The book finther evaluates Noailles' unique positions on social-sexual politics as they find expression in her little-known relationship with the nationalist writer Maurice Barres. First made available to readers in 1991, their correspondence discloses how Barres found in Noailles a long-sought muse even while he rejected her progressive politics. The author analyzes both Noailles' renditions of this relationship and the oscillation in Barrbs's works between the symbolic significance he attached to Noailles as a quasi-miraculous incarnation of his fascination with Dionysian values and his equally forceful denial of a poet whose inspiration clashed with his philosophy of nationalist action.

An outstanding translation of a marvelous poet
This is a marvelous book. It is extremely difficult to accurately capture the flavor of the original writing in translation, but Kunitz has done this and more - the English itself is poetry. The book is dual language, so readers of Russian can read the original next to the English. Both are excellent.

The selection is fairly representative of Akhmatova's life work, with early poems from 1909, through her affair with the poet Blok in the teens, the Terror and War, to her deathbed in 1961. I particularly enjoyed the translation of the epic "Requiem". Without a doubt, this is the best English version I have ever read. My only complaint is its berevity - at 40 poems, it merely whets the readers appetite for more - a pity, given the outstanding nature of both poet and translator.

For those who are not familiar with Anna Akhmatova, this is a gem. If you have read some of her work, this is a must-have volume. Enjoy!

The perfect introductory volume.........
This is the volume that introduced me to the works of Anna Akhmatova. After having read this in one evening, I could not sleep - I was so moved by her poetry. The translation must have captured her heart and soul because it certainly captured mine - it inspired me to get up in the middle of the night and draw pictures to go with what I had read. I understood at once the love the Russian people have for her. Since then, I have gobbled up everything translated into English that I can find, but I still think this little volume is the best of all and return to it again and again. Enjoy......

Wonderful poetry made accessible and enjoyable for all.
There are not enough good things I can say about this superb anthology. Understanding why celebrities picked certain poems adds depth not only to the celebrities, but also to the poems themselves. Because such a diverse group of high-profile individuals participated in this book, they yielded a diverse group of poems. Some of them are famous and well-loved, others are new and rather obscure, but equally enjoyable. Also, the proceeds from the book go to a women's refugee charity affiliated with the U.N. -- so it's even for a good cause. Buy this book; you won't regret it!

Pleasant. I learned alot about what poetry people like.
I can't think of enough to say. I'm only 11 years old. I thought the book came right from someone's heart. I would definetly recommend it to someone.

Incredibly creative ways with polenta
If we don't eat Tomato Polenta Tart several times during the summer, life is just not right. But there was a time when I wondered what was so special about this gluey mass of flavorless stuff. Here in the Wine Country of No. CA it seemed to pop up on plates frequently...a sort of thoughtless addendum to an otherwise great dinner. But then Michele Anna Jordan and her book on the subject came my way and my eyes were opened to all sorts of possibilities. As in all her books, Michele delves into a wonderful overview of the subject, including basic history as well as little known facts. In this particular book, we are blessed with 21 pages of her exquisite prose. And then the recipes..... Orange Scented Duck with Olives and Polenta, Italian Shepherds Pie, Baked Summer Tomatoes filled with Polenta, even four variations of Polenta Poundcake. Need I say more? Now if I don't have polenta in my pantry and Michele on my bookshelf, something is wrong!!

the encyclopedia of polenta
Having lived in Northern Italy for several years I had tried what I thought was every possible way that polenta could be prepared and in every possible dish. I returned to the States thinking I was addicted to polenta. It was and is for me what rice is to the Chinese. I cook and enjoy polenta a couple of times each week. I thought I knew all there was to know about polenta until I discovered Michelle Jordan's book. I'm now enjoying polenta in ways I was not aware of despite considering myself an aficionado. The narratives that accompany her recipes are informative and interesting. A great addition to my cook book collection. Makes me want to go back to Italy and have polenta on location again. Mille grazie.

Fall in Love with your Bridegroom
I see this book and the living contents within this book changing lives, and bringing beleivers into a deeper love relationship with their Husband...Jesus. I see this book changing hearts and being used in a way that is unbeliveable to mankind. The work, the sweat and the tears will be worth it all. Just think of the lives that are going to be changed because the Lord intrusted these writers with this revelatation... and they have been faithful to His call. They wrote this book hand in hand with the King! I know that the truth that He is my Husband has set me free. I am so thankful to the writers of this book that they were faithful to Him. Reading this book has changed my heart for ever. No matter what life brings now, I know my Bridgroom has my best interest in mind and I will never stand alone because we are one. He is my perfect Husband and the Lover of my soul and Heart... I would encourage anyone that wants a deeper love for his or her Bridegroom to get this book....We are His Bride and He wrote this book for all who would dare to read it and be changed forever. Love in the Lord Deb

Defies Description
This book has so profoundly touched my life that I don't know how to give it justice in a review. The depth of God's love and the journey into that depth is so wonderfully portrayed in this book that there is no doubt that it is true even though one may not have personally experienced the actual journey. It gives perspective for our life on earth and demonstrates marvelously that our citizenship is not of this earth. I was and continue to be deeply touched by this revelation of the mystery of our betrothal to God. I am forever changed. I've read it several times and each time I am deeply touched. IT IS A MUST FOR ANYONE SEEKING GOD AND AN UNDERSTANDING OF HIS GREAT LOVE FOR US. It exudes life to you as you read it.

Best Line Worker Source Available
My employees appreciate the cartoons and clear messages. We have had the best transfer of learning to the workplace using this book.

Excellent Training Reference
This text is a great way to introduce Food employees to the basics of Food Safety and Sanitation. The text is written in a style that explains the concepts in a language suitable for Food employees but does not talk down to the reader (as many introductory texts do!) In addition, the humorous cartoon-style graphics add to understanding the concepts while adding to the enjoyment of the text. One of the biggest advantages is the inexpensive cost . . . for a few dollars, a Food Establishment operator can purchase several copies for their in-house training and not break the bank in the process.

An ABSOLUTE "must read"
This is by far one of the absolute best books (just in general, not even specifically related to Sign Language) I've ever read!--and I read *a lot* of books. I was not able to put this book down; it was absolutely fascinating.

If you are a Hearing person at all familiar with Deaf culture, you will see yourself and your Deaf friends in this book and lightbulbs will go off as you recognize and identify the reasons for specific interactions you've had in Deaf community. As someone who has been enthralled with ASL for more than 20 years and involved in Deaf community off and on (more off than on to my dismay) for more than 10 years, I found myself, after reading this book, wishing I could reconnect with every Deaf person I've known and *apologize* to them for all the cultural gaffs and blunders I've made, and for all the misunderstandings and misassumptions on my part. I SO MUCH wish I had had this book 10-20 years ago to help me bridge the gap and to understand the different perspectives from which Hearing and Deaf approach communication.

Not only that but this book has opened my perspective and helped me to better understand my coworkers in the High Tech industry who are from Asian, Arab, and European countries, as well as to better understand the cultural differences between myself and the homeless and street-culture-savy teenagers with whom I work on a voluneer basis.

Thank you so much to the author for this amazing, fascinating, and accurate work!

For interpreters and other interested persons
Excellent--- a good base book for us to move forward with as a profession.
