Info on everything including the kitchen sink...
Remodeling our cottage we wanted a book that would show us as much information as possible and this the book. If you are interested in reading how to go about a project and where to get information on everything from the wall coverings, appliances, contractors and even alas the kitchen sink, check this book out.

Wide range of styles, great ideas, good resource list
This is a wonderful book showing a wide range of kitchen styles from modern to country and blue and white to classical. It explains design secrets that help you create a beautiful, yet practical cooking space.

The book starts out with a short quiz that helps you determine your cooking lifestyle needs. It then discuses backsplashes, flooring, cabinets, storage and ventilation. In addition there are several cook's stories telling all about their history and about their dream kitchens.

I like the way the kitchens selected for the book combine aesthetics and ergonomics. The emphasis is on kitchens that work rather than on the latest technological gadgets. There are tons of ideas that can make any kitchen more functional.

There is a great resource list in the back, including website addresses, for finding accessories, appliance manufactures, lighting and hardware. Whether you are a professional chef or want to use your kitchen as a social gathering place, this book can be a great help to you.

Wonderful book on Dachshunds and the history of breeding!
This book is wonderful if you are interested in reading about Dachshunds and the history of breeding in the United States. I purchased this book because the breeder which I got my new Miniature Dachshund from is listed in the book and it gave me a lot of information as to the history of the breeder and their dogs lineage. It also gave insight on how they have helped other breeders start their lines. If you are beginning to look for a Dachshund and are going about it the right way by researching breeders this if definately the book for you to read.

Brilliant! A must-read book!
In the area of dance and healing the name Anna Halprin, Ph.D. is a beacon of hope and strength. And, in the area of cancer support and education, Anna's name is legend. This prolific author, dancer and healer now brings us Dance as a Healing Art, which hows us the connection between dance and spirituality as a means to fight cancer, AIDS and other terminal illnesses.

Anna Halprin, now 80 years old and a cancer survivor herself, brings not only years of experience and training in her art and craft, she brings vast quantities of love and understanding. Dance as a Healing Art exposes the viability of movement as a"...vehicle for releasing feelings which are essential to the healing process. Repressed or incongruent emotions shut down the immune system, causing pain and illness" relates Dr. Halprin.

Dance as a Healing Art, by definition, is an effective guide to healing for both teacher as well as student. It is filled with lessons to facilitate understanding of getting in touch with yourself (or patient) both physically as well as emotionally and spiritually.

Anna Halprin re-defines ritual to refer "...to an artistic process by which people gather and unify themselves in order to confront the challenges of their existence". That, in turn, defines Dance as a Healing Art as a process that enables the person in a health crisis to reach within and apply their emotional and spiritual healing tools to help.

Dance as a Healing Art is a powerful book from a pioneer and innovator. Anna Halprin offers a healing modality that uplifts by implementing a healing process through movement and imagery. This is a book, in this reviewer's opinion, not only for the stricken, but for the well!

Life enhancing reading for patients, family & care providers
Dance As A Healing Art: Returning To Health With Movement & Imagery is based on Anna Halprin's many years of practical experience in collaborative programs incorporating modern American dance with treatment protocols for cancer and AIDS patients. Dance As A Healing Art is a vital, innovative resource and practical, effective guide for people involved with any kind of chronic health crisis, -- including terminal illnesses. As a cancer survivor herself, eighty year old Anna Halprin brings a genuine authenticity to her presentation, offering uplifting insights and the wisdom off a great creative artist, teacher, and facilitator for healing. Dance As A Healing Art is highly recommended, life enhancing reading for medical care providers, patients, and their families.

Devils Knot
I am a legal secretary, and after reading this book, my whole opion of the law has changed. The amount of absolutely no evidence showing that Damien, Jessie and Jason actually did this makes me sick and I can't believe that the judicial system actually leaves them in jail. I am pulling for each of them, I hope that the real perp gets caught. Shame on the police department and prosecuters involved, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You never even wanted to know who commited the crime, you had your target, and you hit it. How would you feel if it were your kids? Would you let it rest? I would not.

I've opened my eyes and my heart through this book
Right after purchasing this book, I met my friend for our daily walk. We both have connections to men on death row who have become great teachers and life changing catalysts for us. Instead of going for our walk, we sat in the car and read the life stories and letters that fill this book. We were in awe at the wisdom, pain, complexity, compassion, and surprises that spilled from the pages. Doors to hidden hearts and minds were opened in ways that society rarely gets to see, primarily because very few want to know these beings behind bars. This book is not a view through rose colored glasses of sinners transformed into saints. It is an honest and often horrific reflection of the very best and the very worst that lies within us all. Two of the stories offered are of death row individuals who have been executed, and another is of a man from death row who had his sentence commuted. Many of the writers are presently on death row, including some that I am quite sure are innocent. These writings illustrate the searching, the loving intentions, the pain and the prayers for forgiveness that fill individuals of all spiritual traditions and backgrounds but that society refuses to acknowledge. The book challenges society's conventional views of prisoners on and off death row as those beyond redemption. It offers instead an inspirational presentation of hope and healing for individuals who are incarcerated and invites the reader to share in what these fellow human beings are going through as they try desperately to heal with very little support. Most importantly, this book is the celebration of the growth of so many that society has virtually forgotten and discarded.
My friend and I are both Buddhist practitioners. We know that it was not a choice to have courageously walked through those prison doors to share our lives with our friends on death row. Because of those relationships, we can never again view the range of human expression with the limited ideas of "good guys" and "bad guys". Our entire lives have been expanded by this transformation of our view. This book has continued to open this spiritual perspective for us. We are confident that all of those who read of our society's abandoned, forgotten and discarded will find a world that is surprisingly full of an enormously vast range of human emotional and spiritual experience. We expect that with the aid of Anna Cox's teaching and the stories shared by those in prisons, the reader's life view of all beings will also be transformed in infinitely more compassionate ways.

Bumper Guide to Familiars.
This book contains an introduction to the subject of working with animal powers and the various types of relationship one can have with spirit animals- familiars, totems, fetches, nugual and tonal animals for example. It shows how to build a relationship with animal powers, how to gain a familiar or totem, how to create a power song and so on. there are then full descriptions of the lore and lessons of fifty animals and birds, togther with personal experiences of people, plus pathworkings and meditations on the animals. As with all of Anna's books this is a full and exhaustive coverage of the subject, well researched and cohesively written. I was able to gain contact with my own elusive familiar, as well as certain healing animal spirits that help me in my shamanic work.

Familiars:Animal Powers of Britain
A fascinating dip into the shamanic world of the witch's familiar - wild and domestic animals with which adepts can link consciousness. It includes real life testimony from people undergoing shamanic experiences [some of them quite scary, others - unexpected].

Let there be light
If anyone needs a lesson in the clinical advantages of keeping a constantly questioning, critical stance toward "traditional" approaches, this excellent book provides it. Whether you agree or not with the author's particular viewpoint, simply having to present one's own counterarguments is revealing. In a clear, reasoned, calm voice, the author shows the devasting clinical consequences of gender premises that have made their way into psychological theory and what it means to leave them unexamined. A must for the marriage and family therapist as well as the psychoanalytic clinician. A joy for study groups!

A Much Needed Book in Family Therapy
The author reviews several well known family therapy models and shows their "male-biased" problems. Most family therapy theories were developped by men despite the fact that about 90% of family counselors are women. The author is able to provide a feminist critique to the dominant family therapy theories without being condescending. The book is clearly written, easy to read, and important for anyone doing family counseling.

Mind blowing!
My favorite from this collection is called "New Age Manhattan", a meticulous rendering of a block of skyscrapers made of old, worn-out boards and powered only by campfires. You could sit and look at these pictures for hours!

An inspirational journey into the dreamscapes of Yerka.
Each turn of the page drops you into a surreal world of beauty and intrigue. Opposite each superbly detailed work of art, Yerka shares the dream or childhood experience that inspired the original vision. Occasional brief insights into Yerka's life helps the reader become aware of his deeply personal process of bringing inner worlds into physical reality. This book has inspired me to explore my own inner world as a deep well from which to draw insights for creative expression. The book is visually entertaining and an amazing value considering the number of beautifully reproduced plates (21) and the large size of each, about 11 by 14 inches.

Wonderful child intro to Haydn
I would read this to a class or child and then enjoy listening to the work. It's a very nice introduction to Haydn and the humor he used when composing. Wonderful book and it comes with a nice performance of several of Haydn's Symphonys.

The Farewell Symphony
I do collect children's books and take into consideration the illustrations as well as the story. I rate this book excellent, the story is True, based on documented evidence. A CD is also included of the complete "The Farewell Symphony'" and I replay it ad infinitum. Excellent investment in quality entertainment. The illustrations are delightful! Dorothy Hope
