The Perfect Gift for the Family of a LGBT Person.
The stories are unmistakably from the heart and the courage that these people display would be remarkable except for the love they have for their lgbt family member, which makes it all make sense. A mention of a relative who always wore dresses in a matter of fact way is refreshing. A mother riding on the back of a daughter's motorcycle in a 'dikes on bikes' contingent in a gay pride parade show the fun parents can have when they get over society's biases, they no longer claim as their own.
The proud father with the gay son license plate has to be a wonderful emotional lift to young person who is on the border of hating themselves from ingesting the homophobia in society. This is a wonderful gift to give for the holidays to family members who are accepting but haven't gone the next step to speaking out and educating society to make the world a safer place for their gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender loved ones.
The humor srinkled throughout the stories tickled my heart as the real stories of rejection teared my eyes as I learned so much about those who reached out in love and became better persons in the process. The mother who took her son to a gay bar so he could socialize while she could keep her eye on him as he learned to spread his wings was precious. Every gay man would love to be blessed with a mom like her.

The best book that I have read about gay family members
Reading "Out of the Closet Into Our Hearts" was a joyful experience. All too often, books and stories about gay family members who come out to their straight family members are about coping with the experience instead of celebrating it. Our gay family members have added much happiness to our lives. This book tells stories of family members who have had many positive experiences because of a gay sibling, child, parent, cousin, or other loved ones. It simply was an incredible book and a must for everyone. It will certainly open your eyes and your heart.

Finally a book that celebrates our lives!
A beautiful book filled with honest heart warming stories. It was so refreshing to read about people that not only accept their gay family members but celebrate and cherish them. Highly recommended for all people that have a gay or lesbian loved one.

Patti Cooks! (but we always knew that)
Patti Labelle is legendary for her cooking stories from on the road - for years, she had a rider in her contract that a full kitchen be available at her shows for her to prepare post-concert meals.
Patti has taking her love (and considerable knowledge) of food, and put this in a book that also contains family recollections, words of encouragement, and smart living advice. It's a great book to give as a gift (especially to someone who loves to cook, but needs to watch their diet), and a whole lot of fun to read, and prepare her meal suggestions.
This book focuses on low-fat, low-sodium and low-carb meals, but does not sacrifice taste (nor tasty ingedients) in favor of diet. There are some rather indulgent recipes (the Chocolate Pecan Pie is AWESOME), but they are prepared smart.
Patti's stories that accompany many of the recipes are always enjoyable (is there a more down to earth singing star than this fine lasy?), but also poignant - her discussions of her mother's death by diabetis, and her talk of dealing with having the disease herself make you want to eat smarter.
Buy 2 copies of this book - one for a friend who needs to be cooking smarter (we all have one), and one for yourself. It's a great mix of food and wisdom as only Patti could deliver.

Dear Patti...Thank YOU!!!!
Patti LaBelle's recipes are WONDERFUL!!! THANK YOU PATTI for taking the time out of your busy life to share this HEALTHY cook book with us. Your "Chicken Cacciatore" is a mouth watering dish!!! We love your cook book..your recipes..(of course we love ALL OF YOUR MUSIC)...and we Love You!! I would recommend this cook book to everyone. What a tasty collection of healthful eating!!! Patti has WOWED me once again!!!

Healthy but Delicious Recipes!!
Firstly, Patti LaBelle is my favorite entertainer of all time so whatever she releases, I am there to get it. Although I am a thin, nineteen year old male, there are some recipes in here that I not only will try but have tried kind of. The most appealing part of the book is that the meals are delicious but they are also healthy. Whether one is overweight or not, has diabetes, heart problems or not, everyone needs to eat healthy because it is one of the best ways to remain healthy. This is no exception. The meals are great and easy to understand. So, get with the program and buy this sorely universally needed cookbook by soul cook and soul singer Patti LaBelle. I was taken away by how good these dishes actually are. They are so very easy to do so do not worry about not really being a cooker.

Simon's Coming to America is Ideal Book for Young Readers.
Simon, by author Laura Sheerin Gaus, is a great selection for classroom teachers who are interested in combining historic events with exciting reading for their 9-12 year old students. The story is based on an actual event of the author's grandfather. While it provides the reader an enjoyable trip into the past as Simon comes to America in 1849, it has a completely different education value since the O'Shea family comes, not through Ellis Island, but New Orleans. Students will relate to Simon and the new and different life he finds in America. They, along with Simon, will discover the horrors of slavery, the challenges of living in a new world, the excitement of a new trade, and the difficult decision that Simon must make; a decision which will change his life and that of his family forever. As a fourth grade teacher I loved the book and feel it would serve as a wonderful reading tradebook for 4th, 5th, 6th, and even older students in the classroom. It's no surprise that as teachers discover this book, they are making it part of their classroom collection.

A Springboard for Discussion
SIMON is a most enjoyable book that provided the topic for an interesting and spirited discussion among three generations in our family. It began with giving the book to our grandchildren for their birthdays and ended with the kids, their parents and grandparents spending a great deal of time together talking about Simon's decision and subsequent action, exchanging views on the subject and actually listening to each other. What an unexpected and joyous bonus to receive from what is already a really terrific book. Mrs. Gaus truly rates FIVE STARS for SIMON!

Simon
Simon was packed with intresting things to learn. Every page was a learning experiance and it had a lot of detail. Everybody I mean everybody should read this book. If you are tired of reading dumb books about boys and girls kissing, read Simon. If you don't like Simon you are a psycopath. You're missing out on so much.

The standard...
Before my first spay, I watched the demonstration video a few times, read over my spay manual a few times....but reading the procedure over in Fossum upped my confidence in remembering each step.

I've used this book to clarify certain procedures mentioned in my classes, and it has helped me so much conceptually. The illustrations are great and provide a great model to accompany the instructions.

It's a standard for any vet student!

terrific book
The best surgery book out there. Detailed, full-color drawings give me confidence that I can actually do the procedure. I did my first GDV last week with this book!

Even better than the first edition
A must have for any practitioner. The first edition was great, replacing my 2 volume Slatter's, the second edition is even better! Other authors should learn from this reference, provide the information needed and include terrific pictures and drawings!

Agatha's Featherber is a Fine Feathered Friend
I've used this book in the classroom and have found students telling me when we've discovered where something comes from it's just like in Agatha's Featherbed. The book is remembered and students love the story. The ending comes as a wonderful surprise. What a wonderful modern day O'Henry adaptation for the Gift of the Magi. This book could be used for comparison to the O'Henry story. I read this book with my students year after year and each time I enjoy it a little more. It is too bad it is out of print. I think it's a remarkable book full of humor. It spurs students to inquire about where things come from. The author should know she's made an impression on me as well as my students. Thank you Ms. Deedy. The illustrations rank as a Caldecott. Thank you Ms. Seeley.

My favorite children's book and baby gift!
I love, love, love this book. I love to read it to children. I love to read it myself! I have given at least six of them as baby shower gifts and have just ordered another one to give. Children love it for its fun story; but,as they get older, they keep liking it on different levels--just for its beautiful illustrations alone, for its word play (which they understand more and more of as they progress so there is always some "new in it", for the side pictures that teach us where things come from, and so much more. As an adult, I never get tired of reading it as I do so many other children's books -- even good ones -- that I feel like I could recite in my sleep. If you were allowed to give 10 stars, I would give this book that many! I cannot say enough for it. Sadly, it is usually not available in bookstores anymore...BUT, Amazon has it!

Rich in puns and humor with a lesson on every page
Agatha's Featherbed is a book laced with rich humor nad whimsical puns about the realtionship between a shopkeeper and six geese. There is a wonderous moral and that is intertwined within the pages. The author is a charming lady who animates through her stories the old world charm and the new world techniques.

Flawless!
This is one of the few books that I know of which illustrate real yoga positions done with a baby. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and the pictures are beautiful! These positions are a wonderful way to bring your baby into your yoga routine and baby really delights in all of the attention, and face to face contact you are able to give while you practice!

Best Yoga book

A real home run!
The interpretations and graphics on these cards make them a real delight to use. I am actually playing tarot. I have used many different decks but this is by far the clearest for me. This is a great way to introduce sports minded men to this wonderful practice.

What a great gift
I just purchased this set as a his/her wedding shower gift and everybody just loved them. They were passed around from person to person, the ladies and the gents each finding something of value from them. The art work is beautiful, the book very complete, and the card discriptions are really very insightful. They explain things in an easy to understand, applicable to today way. They were a hit. I have about 4 more people I'm going to buy decks for including myself. I doubt anyone would be dissapointed in this set. Certainly unique for a collector of either Tarot cards, or baseball paraphernalia. Thanks :-)

Great fun
The Baseball Tarot made the tarot understandable and enjoyable for my boyfriend. It is written in terms that are meaningful to him. We really enjoy our Tarot readings with these cards.

A special book
I love this book and my kids do too. The writing is perfect for young children and the illustrations are too adorable. This is sure to become a classic in many home libraries. I know it is in ours.

A Healthy Family Book
This book is an excellent book for teaching young children about hugging. It talks about a variety of people you might wish to hug. It gives a cute description about the hug. I think parents will find this book "a must have" particularly with young children.

Great Children's books.
I thought this was one of the best children's books I had seen in a long time. It emphasized the value of the family. That is am important quality in today's lifestyle. I loved the art work also.

greek scientist/Mathematician
Please print this, I wrote a review 12/29/99 and I don't see it in print: I read this book in Junior High School in December of 1965 ( so I guess "Archimedes was born in 287 BC in Syracuse, a little island off Sicily was given this unusual name by his family who thought it would be good. As he grew he was most thoughtful of the things around him and learned to face many problems and difficlties. He solved these problems by doing things as not much was known at that time. he was able to move a boat for King Hiero to his astonishment as he didn't actually believe that Archimedes would be successful in this endeavour. Of course, today we all know these principles, but Archimedes used the idea of pulleys and levers and was able to move the boat. We also are aware of the well known phrase "EUREKA", of course, if you are Gree, you know that it is truly To EVREEKA, which means, "I've found it!", when he displaced the water in his bathtub to measure the volume of gold to see if the goldsmith was cheating the king out of the amount of gold in his crown. This is the report I wrote on this book all those years ago in Junior High and I think I would again like to reread this book and review it now as an adult. Thanks for listening to my childhood view of this book, and thanks for printing this AMAZON.com.

Useful AND Entertaining - a rare mix
I just got done reading this aloud to my homeschooled 6th grade twins. What a treasure! The author weaves together mathematical and scientific principles into a delightful story format. My kids had no trouble understanding the well-illustrated concepts.

We used this book in our unit study on Ancient Greece. It just so happened, that during the reading, our Science lesson was on the six simple machines, a few of which Archimedes was the founder! As if all this isn't enough, my children took away with them an interesting outlook. We take the principles such as the center of gravity, buoyancy, pi, exponents, all that we know about geometry, etc. for granted. It's so much a part of our lives. This book helped us to imagine a time when these concepts were yet to be uncovered, an exciting time in the development of applied science and technology. It also helped us see Archimedes as a real man, and not just another boring scientist to learn about.

Even though my kids are homeschooled, they moan and groan about their work just like any other kids. This book was still able to capture them. It was a great selection that complemented our studies very well, and was a good investment of time and money.

The Illustrated Archimedes
Not only is this book an educational and interesting read, it also inspires investigation into Archimedian principles and inventions. The drawings illustrate these scientific principles clearly. Our favorite part is when Archimedes finally makes a break through with displacement and density and runs through the streets stark naked shouting, "Eureka!"
