Review from the Publisher
Great Catholic high school history. Gives the role of the Catholic Church in American history. Starts with the earliest explorers and concludes with the 1990's. Covers American history in a fast-paced, thorough, interesting manner. Scores of amazing insights. Makes history really come alive. Great for students; stimulating and informative reading for adults also. U.S. and Central and South American history beautifully woven together. Each era gets its own in-depth coverage. Gives a great sense of American history.

Catholic History made Readable and Informative
Well worth its price, this book covers the history of the Catholic Church in America in great detail. It combines interesting stories with the basic facts. With a good index, I need no other book to study American Church History.

Clear Instructions, Color Photos - A MUST HAVE!
I just started to crochet and I could easily follow the instructions. This book has colored photos for each lesson. The authors instuctions are very clear (not confusing). From each crochet design you can make a very large project or a very tiny one, the instructions are not limited to a certain size. You can also use these instructions to make anything you want.

This is a must have for all crocheters.
This is a great reference book that is packed with information from cover to cover. This book is perfect for the beginner to the advanced crocheter. It's the perfect tote bag or travel companion. It's small and has all the information you need to choose yarns, hooks, and stitch patterns. Great definitions for abreviations and symbols and how tos for reading patterns and applying them to your work. This book shows you how to do basic to complicated crochet stitches. I really like the color photos of differet yarns by thickness with suggested hook sizes. Great color photos of each one of the stitch patterns with suggested yarns and uses given on each one. This book also has a terrific index making it easy to locate anything in the book quickly. I was so impressed with this that I bought 2. One for me and one to give as a gift.

Daily Inspirations
This book by Rita C. Williams is a good book. If you are not saved or don't know Christ, this is the book to get. I get a blessing everytime I read one of the poems in the book. I would advise this book to everyone to read. This book will make you feel good when you read a poem. If you don't know the Lord, this is the book to get to get to know Him. She is very talented in writing poetry and I would advise anyone to buy this book. May God continue to bless her and keep her in His care. I am looking forward to her next book coming out. Rita, keep on writing God's word and keep on letting the Lord use you anyway He can.

inspires me for the day
This book has helped me on a daily bases. I work with sick people and I'm constantly referring to this book as a guide, a pick-me up and a relaxer. When I've had a bad day, I come home, prepare a bath and read about ten peoms. There are certain ones in the book I have marked because they seem to know exactly what I've been through that day. I plan to include this book as presents for Christmas because it is just that wonderful and this is something friends could use on a daily bases.I really have enjoyed it

Great book. Simple, small, profound. Excellent scholarship underlies the content, yet book is very accessible. I've read it a few times, underlined my copy many times.

Very Useful Book
This is an excellent book. Well written in easy to understand terms. Explains where the anger comes from and shows how you can choose to express it in destructive or constructive ways. An Awesome true story about Awesome Animals
I love this book! Don C Reed tells the story of his career as a dolphin trainer and the relationships he shared with these great animals. After reading this book, i was inspired to become a dolphin trainer when I grow up. You should DEFINITELY read this book!

It was a very good book because it really happened.
I liked the book because I like the ocean and it is interesting to know the trainer's point of view about dolphins. It is also interesting to know that all dolphins aren't nice. I am ten years old.

America's First Strike Against Japan
In April, 1942, the U.S. Navy set out to strike back at the Japanese. The plan was to launch B-25 Mitchell bombers from the deck of an aircraft carrier, bomb Tokyo, then fly to safety in China. In this excellent book by Carroll Glines, the story of the famed Doolittle Raiders unfolds. President Roosevelt conceived the idea. American morale was very low after the Pearl Harbor attack, and the President felt that an attack on the Japanese homeland would do wonders for the American civilians as well as the armed forces. Colonel Jimmy Doolittle was selected to lead the mission. Famous for his air racing and numerous speed records, Doolittle assembled sixteen crews and began training in Florida. Finally, the planes were loaded aboard the U.S.S. Hornet and the task force set sail for Japan. The original plan was to approach to within about 350 miles of the Japanese coast before launching, but a Japanese sampan discovered the task force while they were still some distance from the take off point. I enjoyed the way that Mr. Glines told the individual story of each crew involved in the attack. This aspect of the book made it much more enjoyable to read. The dialogue is so vivid that one can imagine themself sitting in the cockpit. In the end, most of the planes successfully crash-landed in China, but eight men were taken prisoner by the Japanese. They suffered horribly at the hands of their captors. One man died in prison, three were executed by the Japanese, and four survived the war to return to the United States. Another book, entitled Four Came Home, also written by Mr. Glines, tells the story of the four survivors in much greater detail than this book. I would highly recommend both of these books as they both do an excellent job describing this first strike against the enemy.

Very Good Account of the Doolittle Raid
This book, I believe, is a very good account of a relatively forgotten event during the Second World War in the Pacific theater. Sandwiched between two intensely covered events such as the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the American victory at Midway, the Doolittle raid often gets overlooked. The author did a good job to provide a detailed account of the events leading up to the raid as well as an excellent account of the experiences of each of the sixteen bomber crews as they made their raid over Japan. Other lesser-known areas concerning the raid were covered such as the voyage of the carrier task force and just how close they came to being attacked by Japanese aircraft and surface forces. Also the technical challenges that occurred to the aircraft were elaborated on as well as an account from the Japanese standpoint pertaining to their preparedness for such an air raid. To complete this telling of the Doolittle Raid the author explains the fate of the aircrews that either survived the raid to continue the fight or those that were captured by the Japanese. Finally the plight of the Chinese people as a result of their part of the raid was not forgotten or overlooked, as is often done by history. Overall, for a person generally interested in World War II history this book would rate a 4 out of 5. If you are particularly interested in the Pacific war against Japan this book is definitely a 5 of 5.

Dr. JAC's Guide to Writing with Depth

Ms. Carroll strives to make writing fun
Joyce Armstrong Carroll is the CoDirector of the New Jersey Writing Project in Texas. She has written several books on writing, mostly aimed at the K-12 population. Her writing is full of humor and is aimed at improving the quality of writing.

Dr. JAC's Guide to Writing with Depth is meant to take up where other writing books leave off. Most people have learned the mechanics of writing, but few have an idea of what writing in depth is all about. Dr. JAC makes it easier...writing is never easy. She takes on what others fear to talk about, or just don't want to talk about. After all, these are the tricks that make for the best sellers! She tackles such subjects as humor; dialogue; setting; showing versus telling; repetition; and many other subjects that writers struggle to comprehend:

"No one really wants to experience drowning, but if the writer crafts the experience by showing not telling then we experience the virtual reality of drowning. It works this way because of the sensory signals the words conjure, the brain makes a connection and consequently makes meaning. Since our senses are the primary information gatherers, constantly sending signals to the brain, Hobbs invites you to stimulate all five senses through the power of words. That way, after the brain has reconstructed and synthesized the signals, it identifies and we understand. Helping that connection equates good writing."

Ms. Carroll strives to make writing fun. Her book is entertaining and accessible. Most importantly, she encourages us as writers to find our own style, or voice. This is a very powerful message in the midst of so many writing books that demand narrowly crafted rules, producing many books that are simply replicas of one another.

Ms. Armstrong Carroll performs an invaluable service in the crafting of this highly useful writing, that of good, sound advice that most writers can understand and identify with. This reviewer means to keep this book within handy reach when writing. Ms. Carroll deserves a note of thanks for writing an honest "how to write" bible for those of us who are ready for the next level of writing expertise.

The book helps us create fresh work by avoiding cliches, by using original metaphors and similes, by including quotations, by exploring repetition, using memory and developing our own unique voice. Still A great resource after all these years
This book is a definite must have for the true Empire Deluxe Fan. It does a fantastic job explaining how the different models work and has some wonderful tables on optimizing production.

It also gives various strategies and insights by the designers.

The "modem play" sections may be dated, but with Killer Bee Software's new release of Empire Deluxe, it still will prove quite helpful.

If this book is still out there, you want to buy it.

This book tells you everything you've been wondering
Having played Strategic Conquest on the MAC and the original Empire game, then later buying Empire Deluxe, I was thrilled to get a copy of this book through Amazon.com's used item web site.

This book takes you through the minds of the developers, you learn a bunch of tips and tricks. You learn to understand how the computer works and how to choose a map that will help the computer to be able to challenge you more.

I really enjoyed reading this book after having played Empire type games since 1984.
