It is a book that will keep professionals healthy and happy in their lives and work.

Rest for those who offer rest to others.
Dr. Jones has given professional caregivers permission to take the personal rest needed in order to help others find renewal and healing. He offers wisdom from personal experience combined with practical tools that offers relief from relational and institutional responsibilities. "Rest in the Storm" is a book that should become a requirement in seminaries and other universities that train people to be professional caregivers.

A Gift of Support
Kirk's book has been a refreshing breeze of support, in the midst of a hot, busy summer. His words, images, and sharing of his own personal journey and struggles have so affirmed my own experiences. I recently have put down deep roots in practicing self-care. But this is an issue I will always be managing in my life. I will return to Kirk's book many times in the months ahead.

The Man With the Midas Touch
Karch Kiraly is simply the best volleyball player ever to play the game. So, of course, this read was very insightful, heartwarming, and humourous at times. I couldn't put my copy down at all. I have read it twice.

I say that Karch is the man with the "midas touch" because everything he touches is golden; his life with family and friends, the kind of role model he is to so many, and lastly for his volleyball accomplishments. It has been a pleasure to follow his career as well as read about his life in his book entitled, "The Sand Man."

I would encourage any volleyball fan to pick up this highly recommended book and to have it signed by Karch if they see him at an event soon!

Best of luck to Karch in the future and keep writing because your fans love it!

An inspiration to an English player!
I knew this was to be my Xmas pressie this year and so it was frustrating waiting for the 25th! As soon as I unwrapped it I couldn't put it down; in the end my wife became annoyed and told me that I would get no lunch until I put the book away. This book is a great read with lots of bits and pieces. There are various inspiring stories that make me want to get down to a beach (yes we do have them in England) and restart training. Living in this volleyball deprived nation it's great to have something like this book to get me through the long and dark winter. Just buy the book it's fabulous! Write to me! volleyball@tesco.net

The definitive Karch Kiraly book for all volleyball fans!
In basketball there's Jordan, in baseball it's Ruth, in Golf it's Nicklaus, auto racing's king is Richard Petty. In the world of indoor and beach volleyball one man stands alone at the top the mountain - that man is Karch Kiraly.

Karch Kiraly is the most decorated volleyball player in the history of the sport and at age 39, he's still the most feared name on the court. The Sand Man is the first book to truly capture this often misunderstood icon of the AVP.

From his first tournament at age 15 to the Atlanta Olympic gold medal in 1996, Karch Kiraly is truly the greatest player ever to spike a volleyball. I can not begin to say how great this book was.

Laced with stories and photos, this book is the tied for number one in my reviews of 1999. For the serious volleyball fan, this is the must read of the year. Best of luck in Sidney in 2000 Karch!

September 12th
This book is incredible. I am excited to see that children made this book as a comforting tool for other children. If you have a child that is terrified about the September 11th events, this book is a must. Every time that I feel anxious about the "war on terrorism" I read this book, and it provides me with comfort.

September 12th : We Knew We Would Be All Right
This is a wonderful children's book which explains how we as Americans (especially our children) knew we would be all right after the hideous experience of September 11, 2001.

The emphasis is on the day after and all the days after and I can almost hear our First Lady's voice soothing our children in the aftermath. This story (written and illustrated by children) has a soothing charm that brings tears to your eyes and hope to your heart.

Innocent View
This book is a delight and comfort to read. The entire book is written by first graders, and each page tells another reason as to how they knew that everything would be all right after the tragedy of 9-11. Some reasons include "The sun came up" and "2+2 still added up to 4."
The book was also entirely illustrated by the children and the bold, colorful pictures display the hope these young people have. While this tragedy will never be forgotten, by reading this book we can see the innocent view that young children take on this, and it gives readers a hope that can only be had by children.
This book is a must for anyone with small children or anyone working in an education environment. For those children who may not understand quite what went on, this book should comfort all those who read it. This wonderful book should be read by all, no matter what the age!

The 521 All-Stars
Outstanding book. this is the first book that I have read that focused on smalltown USA and the will and esprit that a town puts into a baseball team. I found the book to be extrememly inspirational and the photography was excellent. Definitely worthy of reading.....I truly enjoyed each and every page.

True spirit of community
Through evocative and tasteful photographs, coupled seamlessly with simple yet poignant prose, this book certainly deserves the five star rating. Baldwin and Galliard have definately captured a piece of what it is that makes us human. Despite the fact that the book's focus is baseball, the real story lies in the community that fuels the small-town league. This idea of a community that relies on its members to exist is nearly lost in a society laden with technology. Somehow, the boys in Rembert, South Carolina, and their love of the game, have managed to survive. If you are interested in good photography, black history, baseball, or southern culture, then this book is truly a must have.

The true sense of community
From its richly flavored and evocative photographs to its cleanly presented yet eloquent prose, this book is truly a must have. Thought the book may focus on baseball as subject matter, the story truly lies within the framework of the community that supports the league. This sense of community, seemingly lost in a world laden with technology, is alive and well in Rembert, South Carolina. Byron Baldwin and Frye Galliard really do capture this spirit, and use their respective talents to convey it to the reader. Whether you are interested in baseball, black history, or that spirit of community so true to "Americana", then buy this book. You will not be dissappointed.

The Best Language Text Ever Written?
This book is really well-thought-out and well written. But the best point about "Basic Technical Japanese" is that it pulls no punches regarding the difficulty of the language. The attitude seems to be, "look, this a tough subject, it's a lot of work, we can't and won't make it easy, so let's get on with it." The authors throw a lot of Japanese at the student in a hurry. They introduce the phonetic alphabets (katakana and hiragana) in Chapters 3 and 4. After that, romanized spellings are no longer available as a crutch, and Japanese words, phrases, and sentences are given as the Japanese read them. Kanji (Chinese characters) are introduced starting in Chapter 5. Following chapters present the grammar and further vocabulary. In other words, Japanese is presented as it really is. This looks (and is) difficult at first. But if the student is persistent and puts in a solid effort up front, he or she soon learns that the writing system, though complicated, really can be learned. One could say that, in addition to presenting the Japanese writing system, the first chapters allow for some early confidence building. It really provides a lift to the student (at least it did to me) to be able to read a little real Japanese after only a few weeks of study.

Too many foreign language textbooks try to simply the learning process. Although this may be valid for many subjects, it probably isn't best for languages. Languages just don't have the basic logic that allows for simplified texts. Languages must be mastered by brute force, meaning lots of memorizing and practicing (and this is especially true of Asian languages). The best language books, therefore, explain grammatical points clearly and thoroughly, present a large basic vocabulary, and try to be as comprehensive as possible. "Basic Technical Japanese" does this very nicely.

This book should be a model for all foreign language textbooks. I'd give it more stars if I could.

It is a complete course of reading and writing tech japanese
This is a marvelous book: in a few weeks you will be able of reading and writing phrases like: "zinc and chlorhidric acid mix to produce hydrogen and heat". Very clear, well constructed with a lot of examples and exercises. It does not need a dictionary or else it is totally self contained.

Excellent book
This book is an excellent book for foreign students who want to learn technical Japanese at any level. This is the best book on technical japanese I have seen.

Just Found Out
I had been sick lately and my boyfriend got me a copy of this book to read. It makes me wonder where I have been. I just found out about it. This is a great read. I love the wedding scene. You can just picture it in your head. I want my boyfriend and I to get married in a setting like this. I think people will enjoy reading this book. It has mystery but not much. It mostly has romance. This is a story of true love. Any woman in the world would want to be treated like Miss Armstrong. I think she did her husband wrong by being gone so much. You'll like this book. I can easily see this story as a movie. It would be fun to go to.

Surprising
I bought this novel because of my interest in the Civil War. It contains a fascinating description of the escape from Richmand, Va. by Jefferson Davis as the Confederate treasury was brought along. However, this is not a Civil War novel. I have never read a book like this one. It is totally different from any other novel I have read. It was surprisingly good. I got about half-way through it before I realized it. This is a neat love story and a fun book to read. My wife is reading it now.

Being there
The thing I really enjoyed about this story is that, as I read it, it seemed as if I were right there. I could visualize everything that was taking place. It was like "being there" in the story. This is one of those books that could easily be turned into a movie. As you read it, you can see it happening. I also like the theme of love that runs throughout this book. It's a good story and I have recommended it to my friends. I've got a Civil War fanatic friend who really enjoyed the Lost Gold of the Confederacy part of the story.

Our favorite book!
This is my son's favorite, and mine too! Although he's only six months old, I've been reading to him almost every day since he was old enough to pay attention, and he has loved this book from the word go - probably because of the bright colors and simple shapes, but maybe also because when I read it to him it's fun to make "dinosaur noises" and roars, which he finds very entertaining. Although I have read this book so often that I have literally memorized it, I'm not tired of it yet, and that's about as high a recommendation for a baby book as I can make!

Bed Time Show Stopper
This book is a must have for reading time. My one year old boy has loved it since birth (well almost birth)! He really likes the part about "Long sharp claws and long sharp teeth! " It brings the house down. Yet, it still ends with a sleepy touch.

Get it... or regret it!

Dinosaurs,Dinosaurs
It is a good book and I enjoyed the book a lot and I liked the pictures. This book can tell you about dinosaurs and what their different body parts are called. Some of them ate meat and some of them ate plants. The dinosaurs lived a long time ago.

Outstanding
If you purchase only a single engineering reference work this year, purchase this one. It contains the essentials you need to design nearly anything.

Essential reference
This is the essential engineering reference book. It's all here, in one place and well-organized. You will never need more than a small fraction of it your entire design career. But the for that fraction that you do need you will find it indispensible.

The essential reference work for engineers.
The essential book to own if you are serious about engineering. Everything you need to know. It is amazing how much Eshback packed into one volume. Tapley has continued the tradition. Everything you learned in school and need to recall, plus everything you should have learned.

a confirmed river rat
A real life saga of one man's journey down the "Mighty Mississippi". A confirmed river rat, he brings to life the joys and dangers of his solo expedition. Byron did a great job in carrying you along with him every step of the way. I found my heart pounding, muscles aching, stomach cramping but also excited, awed and lifted in spirit. Definitely a must read and would make a great gift for the adventuresome spirit.

Bluffs to Bayous
Byron Curtis fulfilled a dream by kayaking solo down the Mississippi River starting in Prescott, Wisconsin. After being on the river for one week, Byron learns that terrorists chose his birthday, September 11th to attack the United States East Coast. His descriptions of those he encountered and the challenges the river provided along the way make for entertaining, suspenseful reading. Byron has an adventurous spirit and is thankful for each day. His love for his family and the support they give him is evident throughout the book. His journey is complete when he is reunited with his wife and son at Morgan City, Louisiana 42 days after his journey began. Whether on land or water, it is clear that Byron is a man of integrity and character.

Like I was there
A very good read. Written in the present tense with a very respectful style. Not a brag book. Gives a good look into the mental toughness needed to do this kind of solo stuff. Hard to put down. Hopefully we will see more stuff by this author.
