Great collection
This is a neat little collection of some of Byron's poetry and letters, and a few critical articles and reviews of his work. It is a good place to start for anyone just getting interested in Byron's life and work.

A VIEW FROM ON HIGH
Of the many books inspired by World War II, Byron Lane's personal document of his experience as a bombardier in that awesome event is the most moving, as well as the most enjoyable, account I have read. Seeing the war through the eyes of an excited and often bewildered teenager, suddenly thrust into a dangerous adult world, gave me a vicarious experience that brought that world to life.

Byron's almost daily letters to his family, along with his journal entries, terrified the parent in me; gave me a new perspective of what I always considered my reckless youth; made me laugh at exploits that took daring, imagination, and wit; and made me cry over their youthful earnestness, bravado, and self-doubt.

Lane has supplemented his personal document with vignettes of the war years that helps make that era come alive.

Perhaps most remarkable is the sensitivity, the insight, and the skill this writer manifested when he was only eighteen and nineteen years old.

~~~~~
G. Bernard Shaw was a great playwright and that is the reason why his plays tend to outshine his novels. Nonetheless, this is a five-star novel and it should not be so hard-to-get.
Another Noah Marlin adventure
For readers of Mr. Byron's books, "Chesapeake Duke" is populated with the Marlin clan. The Duke in the title is the newest member of the Marlin family----a Chesapeake Bay Retriever.
"Chesapeake Duke" is one of those so-called children's books. Indeed, it does not tackle issues with the same adult insight and tone as in "The Lord's Oysters" or "Done Crabbin". But it is still a pleasing read for admirers of Noah Marlin and his Chesapeake era.
My son a 10th grader at Torry Pines got an A+ on his report.
This book covered all aspects of the development of the American Classic Chevrolet. The tech. info. was detailed enough but not boring. Great pictures but only black and white. It flowed like a novel but very factual. A fun informative book.
Pilgrimage among the nations of Europe
Lord Byron travels in Europe from Portugal to Spain, then to Italy and Greece, then to the Ardennes and the Alps, to Switzerland and Venice and Rome. He beholds the war-torn Europe after Napoleon and is a witness to the emerging nationalism of all nations. He blends his song of independence for all countries or peoples into a long and rich song of nature that mixes historical references, mythological recollections and all other connections he deems natural and useful to give universality and even some kind of a new power coming from the faith in the ability of men to free themselves and to reach up to the realisation of their potentials. The form is also very engaging : a ballad with some songs here and there. The rhythmic and rhyming patterns are fluid and delicate and Lord Byron reaches a rare power and, should I say, finesse in the use of the form. We nearly get an epic, or at least an epic in the making, and this strong tone is ever present in the poem.
Author's notes:
Of course I rated the book 5 stars ! This book was written to a younger (junior high level) audience, but should be very helpful for all those reasearching aviation as a career. In my own research, I found very few books about careers in aviation that weren't either aimed at young children or advanced books for those well on their way towards an aviation career. Though the events of September 11th have clouded the future for aspiring pilots, I am still optimistic and still in love with flying. I hope this book will help you share this feeling.
