Not very good
This book is just rehashed material from many resources, It offers litle insight into the requirements of serious cruisers. This book exists mainly to push the designers own plans. One would be better sticking to the Pardeys books for indepth information. Likewise Hal Roths books

Well-intentioned, but shallow.
The title of Roberts-Goodson's book sets forth the premise that "Choosing for Cruising" will be a useful guide for helping readers to select boats and equipment for cruising and providing opertional advice. In general, it falls well short on this goal in several areas. To begin with, the book is rediculously brief, (182 pages exclusive of appendicies)for a text that sets out to cover such a broad topical area and there is much space wasted on delivering up platitudes rather than useful advice. In contrast, Steve and Linda Dashew's "World Cruising Encyclopedia" is amost 1,300 pages and every word is crafted to convey a useful point.

I feel short-changed by this book. Such fundamental issues as hull design, hull materials and rigging are glossed over in the most cursory manner. Take for example the discussion about hull materials. The author mentions glass fiber, steel, and copper-nickel, but spends only a paragraph or two on each. Aluminum and wood hulls are totally ignored and the important subject of osmosis receives only a tiny note. A discussion of keel types merits two paragraphs. In none of the 15 chapters does the author do justice to the topics he sets out to discuss.

The overleaf of the book trumpets Roberts-Goodson's boat design experience pointing out that over 20,000 boats of his design have been built, yet there is little evidence in this book of any real expertise that would be useful in making decisions about cruising. Given the brevity of the book, there is little to praise. The sections on interiors and engines are the most detailed and there are a few observations in these areas that one might not find elsewhere.

In summary, the book contributes little to the subjects of boat design, equipment, or operational aspects of cruising and is so elementary in its observations that it cannot be recommended.

very basic
the book glides over all aspects of boat building, photos old and poor,i found as a novice i was still asking the same questions after reading the book(and maybe a few more)than i had before , gives a minimum amount of information and tries (i think)to promote a sale of his boat plans.

Concise Dictionary of Christianity in America
If the reviews tell a negative view of the publication in question, then why aren't the corresponding resources for searching the facts presented within the context of the review itself! Let other readers know what sources were used in the effort to discount a works accuracy, so that further research efforts may be undertaken also. Don't let the facts lay in tne shadows for everyone to second guess around, because your review constructs a fantom conclusion or reality! Stick to presenting an accurate conclusion, by dislosing some facts!

Useful project, but outdated and inaccurate in content.
Certainly a useful project that promised to deliver a concise overview of Christianity in America. It is clear and concise indeed, but fails in its informative purpose on the side of accuracy. The entries are outdated and inaccurate, as I have had the opportunity to verify personally (i.e. at my own expenses). So, the information you glean from it, although concise and easily found, will not be sufficiently reliable to be be used with confidence. It is, in other words, a tool that promises to save you work in your research, but misleads you, creating double work for you instead: you still need to do your own research, but in addition you will also have to go back and correct yourself in what you stated on the basis of its entries. I would rather avoid it completely. A book of this nature is bound to be consulted not so much for the major trends in Christianity, but primarily for the lesser known branches of American Christianity... yet that's exactly where the dictionary is most lacking in accuracy.

A Promise Kept: Vernon Ravsten an Uncommon Man for Our Season

Eulogy to SmashMouth Football Gurus
A brave autobiographical attempt to transform the author's high school coach into the second coming of Lomardi. This "Inspirational Playbook For Life" praises such coaching gems as: "I said, 'Coach, I heard something crack and I'm afraid I broke it.' Coach replied, "I think the crack you heard was you breaking that kid's leg. They're getting an ambulance and a stretcher to carry him off the field." Then (with incredible sensitivity and inspiration,) "Coach looked at me and said, "Go on, run off the field and be a hero," and more incredibly, "Well, we'll send him a card next week." The opposing quarterback they were referring to suffered a compound femur fracture in three places, and we learn "They may have to put a pin in his leg." The author's "coach" suffered the final misfortune of a drawn-out bout with cancer...an opponent nobody could knock out of the game. Pep talks evolved to Bob Richards' plagerism and football-as-life lessons. Enter inspiration. Danny White must have read a different manuscript before penning his introduction; for that matter, Couch must have played for a different coach than I did...I played 3rd string for Ravsten and his henchmen; I'd call my paean "Football Through the Earholes: Violent Lessons As Teenage Cannon-fodder "
